Given speedometer error I don't see how any court could enforce that. 3 mph is well within the range of error, especially for a non-digital readout, which only goes up in increments of 5 mph.

Cops who issue such tickets ought to be anally raped by a gang of thugs.

No kidding---- this also brings the point of those idiots who say "I was going 70 and they were about to run me over." Did those brick heads ever think that they may actually only be doing 65? My Jag is 3 - 5 mph optimistic depending on the outside temperature. If it is hotter, my speedometer reads faster.

I think that the 5 mph speedometer error is part of the reason slower traffic does not move right.... They think that they are speeding when they are actually driving at or under the limit.

Over here the rule of thumb for 'Speeding' used to be 'Posted limit, plus ten percent, plus two mph'. So if the limit was 70 then you would be very likely to get pulled if your speedo was reading over 79. Although not in agreement with the majority of our UK limits I think the '+10% + 2' interpretation is pretty fair. I have a feeling now that, with targets to meet and revenue to gain, pieces of Paying Paper may be issued for much smaller infringements.

Celebration Yet?

I'm heartened that VA is still moving ahead to 70. Just a matter of time. I'm DIS-heartened to see no movement on a 70 initiative in Ohio, still nothing happening in Oregon and Illinois (except, in the latter, raising truck limits to 65) and a (no other way to put this) moronic attempt in Oklahoma to drop limits to 55 on two-lane highway BRIDGES. How's that gonna work? OK is also trying to reduce truck limits, which has failed everywhere it has been tried.

Speaking of moronic, Arkansas two-lanes are still 55, which in the eastern delta region where you have 2 miles of highway visibility, is totally ridiculous...

Add to this talk of a "climate change/global warming" commission being established by the Obama Administration. What do you think will be their first recommendation? Three guesses; first two don't count- A new NMSL. Will it be 55, or maybe 60 or 65? We need to keep an eye on this.

PS- Vermont's attempting to return to 55. Seems not to be going very far at the moment, but hard to tell.
