A lesson in urban warfare

As a seasoned traveler and thorough skeptic of the current world order, I would like to humbly recommend that the American people acquaint themselves with the story of Vokovar in Croatia.

Vukovar was defended by around 1,800 lightly armed soldiers of the Croatian National Guard and civilian volunteers, against 36,000 JNA soldiers and Serbian paramilitaries equipped with heavy armor and artillery as well as military aircraft carrying bombs and strafing cannon. During the battle, shells and rockets were fired into the town at a rate of up to 12,000 a day. It was the fiercest and most protracted battle in modern Europe, and yet the civilians held out against overwhelming odds for 3 months until they ran out of ammunition.

They achieved this mainly by the use of extremely effective sniper fire. The locals fought a continued guerrilla ground battle, constantly moving and sniping at the enemy, preventing them from gaining entry to the town.

It would serve all freedom minded citizens to study this battle in depth and learn the lessons hard won by the defenders of Vukovar as you’all may need to engage in urban warfare against a tyrannical government some time soon.

  1. Croats had more forces than that in Vukovar and they kept increasing their numbers there throughout the war.
Plus there were something like 19 ceasefires in the approx. 6 month war there. Each and every time the Serb forces were winning but the “international community” and the UN would force the Serbs to stop and withdraw and go back to their barracks – which they dutifully did.
Then the Croat forces would start killing the Serbian civilians again and the Serb forces wouldn’t react until the Croats started planting mines and attacking the Yugoslav/Serb forces. Then the army would come out and make quick work of the Croats and AGAIN the UN/international community would make them stop.

After each battle, the Croats would regroup and bring more and more soldiers to Vukovar. The final battle in November was big because of the larger Croat forces. But when the Yugoslav/Serb forces came they withdrew, and as they withdrew, they dragged Serbian families out of their cellars and butchered them – there are photographs of this, complete with the Serbs’ full names. Even one photo shows a small Serb boy who was shot point blank in the forehead.

Oh, and the killings were started by the Croat police in Vukovar, under a man called Tomislav Mercep. They started “arresting”, torturing and killing Serbs before the war officially began. Tomislav Mercep was working for Croatia’s President Tudjman, and he was smuggled out of Vukovar during the “fall” where he went on to set up a major death squad which killed hundreds (at least) in Gospic Croatia.

His righthand man, Miro Bajramovic, killed “scores” of mostly civilian Serbs with his own hands. He was just one of Mercep’s men. Bajramovic, freely admitted and described how they tortured Serbs for three days before they were killed on Mercep’s orders.

Croats mostly lost soldiers/police/paramilitary. The ethnically cleansed the Serb population and it is PROVEN in the census results.

    • Dear jj,

During the Clinton era, TPTB presented the world with their version of who the good guys and bad guys were in the Balkans.

Soon afterwards, every other Hollywood movie showed the Serbs as the bad guys. At least those that didn’t use Chinese as updated versions of the Insidious Dr. Fu Manchu. Red Corner. Red Dawn.

But one of the key rules is that the CW is always exactly wrong.

It was true in the Balkans, and it is true in the East China Sea, where the USSA is siding with Japan in its attempt to take an oil rich Chinese island from Mainland China and Taiwan.

      • I am sure they are trying to make sure their oil falls into the right hands. 😉

The similar story is repeated in other parts of the world.

  2. There are a number of good books, and some are quite dated, but they still contain great tips on how to “resist”. I’ve never read “Total Resistance” but have been told it’s one such book.

    • Austria-Hungary chose State Force over NAP. Despite their collectivized & organized brilliance, industriousness, & strength, they became tiny disheveled fragments of their former majesty & splendor, but maybe at least a little more free.
