    • Unreal.

      Except, there it is.

The fury I feel toward those thugs – who had no rightful reason to even question that man, let alone cuff him, let alone murder his dog, who was only trying to protect his master from an unprovoked attack by thugs – is such that I best keep my mouth shut and fingers away from this keyboard.

  1. Come on comrade. A life without feathers is not so bad. Obama’s legs are warm and brown. We’ve saved you a nice safe spot right up front. No thanks? “Dreamer. You’re such a stupid dreamer. Well can you put your hands in your head? Oh no!”

=I got an album with Supertramp’s Dreamer on it when I was 7 or 8 years old along with a dozen others by taping a penny to a postcard and mailing it to Columbia House. To this day, I’ve never forgotten the simple confident declarations of individual freedom I heard in this music, it was worth every cent.=

Roger Hodgson of Supertramp was born in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England, and grew up in Oxford. His first guitar was given to him at the age of 12. It was a parting gift from his father when his parents divorced and then sent him to Woodcote House Boarding School.

The song Dreamer was the first song Roger ever wrote, he composed it at the age of 13 and recorded a demo of it at the age of 14 during his incarceration in boarding school. For me, this song and Roger’s success stand as a powerful testament and an irrefutable fuck you to anyone who attempts to discount the power of a determined man’s dreams.

“Dreamer, you know you are a dreamer. Well can you put your hands in your head, oh no! I said Far out, – What a day, a year, a life it is! You know, – Well you know you had it comin’ to you, Now there’s not a lot I can do

Dreamer, you stupid little dreamer; So now you put your head in your hands, oh no!
Well work it out someday. If I could see something. You can see anything you want boy. If I could be someone- You can be anyone, celebrate boy. If I could do something- Well you can do something, If I could do anything- Well can you do something out of this world?

Take a dream on a Sunday. Take a life, take a holiday. Take a lie, take a dreamer
dream, dream, dream, dream, dream along…”

    – It’s never too late to start the most important work of all, that of making your own dreams a reality.

The Logical Song – Roger Hodgson – Supertramp

“When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful, a miracle, it was beautiful, magical. And all the birds in the trees, well they’d be singing so happily, joyfully, playfully, watching me. But then they send me away to teach me how to be sensible, logical, responsible, practical. And they showed me a world where I could be so dependable, clinical, intellectual, cynical.

There are times when all the world’s asleep. The questions run too deep for such a simple man. Won’t you please, please tell me what we’ve learned. I know it sounds absurd but please tell me who I am.

I said now, watch what you say, now we’re calling you a radical, a liberal, fanatical, criminal. Won’t you sign up your name, we’d like to feel you’re acceptable, respectable, presentable, a vegetable. But at night, when all the world’s asleep
The questions run so deep for such a simple man. Won’t you please please tell me what we’ve learned. I know it sounds absurd, please tell me who I am, who I am, who I am, who I am… But I’m thinking so logical. Did you call, one, two, three, five? It’s getting unbelievable.”

    • Ah! Tor you bring me back…I love Supertramp, I’ll never forget hearing the Logical Song first time as a freshman in college. Of course it came out long before then but I’d never heard it–and fell for it immediately.

I have a weird mix of musical tastes; classical 60’s and 70’s rock but also a total fetish for progressive trance/house…no doubt a vestige of Ecstasy-fueled clubbing in college.

But this stuff–Rush, Supertramp, Pink Floyd etc.–is real music.

And a big kudos to the man who can quote Stalin’s Chicken! The most illustrative analogy of the state next to the crutches joke.
