A German police officer has been arrested on suspicion of killing and chopping up a man he met on the internet who had long fantasized about being killed and eaten, authorities said Friday. hungry hero pic

News story here.

The man was arrested on Wednesday at his workplace in the eastern city of Dresden and told investigators that he fatally stabbed the victim in the throat on Nov. 4, hours after the two met in person for the first time.

Dresden prosecutor Erich Wenzlick said Friday that the suspect allegedly chopped up the victim’s body and buried pieces in his garden.

He said that he then chopped the body up into multiple pieces. The suspect pointed officers to a number of places in the yard of his property, south of Dresden, where he had buried the remains, city police chief Dieter Kroll said at a televised news conference.

The killing happened about a month after the pair first met in an internet chatroom, police said. The 59-year-old victim, whose name wasn’t released, traveled across the country by bus from Hannover to the meeting about 400 kilometers away.

Police started looking into the case when the victim was reported missing Nov. 11 by a colleague. Two days later, witnesses told officers that “the missing man had fantasized since his youth about being killed and eaten by another person,” Kroll said.

There is no indication at this point that the suspect ate body parts, police said.

Investigator Maik Mainda said the victim and the suspected killer maintained “very intense contact by chat, by mail, by SMS but also by telephone” after first becoming acquainted in early October. The website they used says it deals with “exotic meat.”

    A Mother Forgives

Look at me. You ‘re forgiven. I am forgiving you and I will continue praying for you. I will never visit you in jail because I have not the courage to go there. Look at me (she holds his face).

But I’ll be praying . Someday you will learn to serve. I do not hate you. I waited all this year to be here and to say this to you . When they told me you killed my son I did not believe it and prayed for you. I am sorry for you because you killed another person.

Look at me (she holds his face ). I need to look at you because you killed my son and I could not see him for the last time . You know my son was not a bad boy. He was a good person, a working man.

But I’m here and I will continue praying for you. (She prays) Lord, please do not leave him alone, touch his soul, as you touched mine. God give comfort to your mother because she is suffering as much as I am.

A Mother faces her son’s murderer and forgives him.

Its well and good to recognize faults and flaws in others we are commanded to respect. But once you become adept only at disliking Rand and Musk, yet hold know one in higher esteem than yourself, then what?

    So you’re a non-smoker, a non-aborter, a non-criminal, a non-promiscuous, non-unprotected-sex-haver, non-intoxicated, non-welfare-recipient, not using the state in an aggressive way paragon of morality.

But what else, what is your vision? This is our impasse. This lack of any articulable higher principles and ideas whatsoever. Quite common really, those who are good, but can’t for the life of them tell you how or why they came to be good.

If pressed, just a lot of grunting about minding one’s own. Or worse, one’s easily flattered into ascending the steps and sitting in the decider’s throne. I’m in control of myself, they think, I’m being taxed, well I demand to be a decider now. When I put my weight against the levers of state, well, my results will be different.

The foolishness of liberty minded people without political leadership experience in the wake of demopublican collapse cannot be overestimated. What will proceed at a breakneck speed, once these rubes are coopted, is a culling, a deagriculturation, and a deindustrialization.

We’re ending welfare. We’re capping entitlements. We’re transferring power back to the states they’ll claim. Show us how things work, you’re in charge.

It’s intoxicating, when you’re convinced you’ve finally won a political battle. It’ll be a lie though. It’ll be the Darth Vader scenario, and you’ll be refurbishing the light sabers and deathstars and enabling the reaping of the defenseless.

It’ll be a culling and it’ll be your hand at the wheel, and throttle. Thousands and then millions of immigrants, ghetto dependents, losers, and idiots, millions here or maybe even billions abroad slaughtered, as they hand you the keys and point out the fires, and stealthily pull out all the cornerstone of their fragilized towers of Jenga.

The Hunger Games played for real. Farms and equipment will be commandeered by paramilitary groups. Industrial areas come under siege and ruin. Financial and legal records and systems will be destroyed.

The Way To Forestall That? Is To Purge Your Envy/Hatred of the Good for Being the Good. Before the Ender’s Game.

In this age of rare immense success, and commonplace small and large failures, we’re accustomed to life in the Age of Envy.

“Envy” is not a comprehensive enough word for the dominant emotion of our times, but it is the clearest manifestation of a suite of emotions that have remained nameless.

It is the only element of a complex emotional sum that we have permitted ourselves to identify.

Envy is regarded as a petty, superficial emotion and, therefore, it serves as a semihuman cover for our deep inhuman burning hatred within that we seldom dare admit to ourselves.

That society collapsing emotion is: hatred of the good for being the good. This hatred is not resentment against some competing view of the good with which we have some honest disagreement with.

Our hatred of the good for being the good means our hatred of that which we regard as being good by our own judgment. It means hatred of a person for possessing a value or virtue which we regard as desirable.

It means hating a writer who has positively impacted millions like Ayn Rand. It means hating an entrepreneur who has brought several kinds of new technology into existence like Elon Musk. Who is now also accomplished in major industrial capitalism, and all the political pitfalls, not the fake virtual capitalism and state crony capitalism usually associated with a successful billionaire.

If a man wants to have a successful career, but is unable or unwilling to achieve it, and begins to hate the men who have achieved, that is hatred of the good.

If a child wants to get good grades in school, but is unable or unwilling to achieve them and begins to hate the children who do, that is hatred of the good.

If a man or child wants to earn money, but fails to do so, yet then despises his fellow productive students or workers who receive paychecks, that is hatred of the good.

This attitude is why Central and South America, and Africa are so hopeless and stagnant. It is becoming prevalent in advanced Western Nations as well, as NAFTA and the other treaties kill off the last vestiges of the free market.

If a man regards intelligence as a value, but is troubled by self-doubt and begins to hate the men he judges to be intelligent, that is hatred of the good.

The nature of the particular values a man chooses to hold is not the primary factor in this issue. Though sometimes irrational values contribute a great deal to the formation of that emotion.

The primary factor and distinguishing characteristic is an emotional mechanism set in reverse: a response of hatred, not toward human vices, but toward human virtues.

To be exact, our emotional mechanism is not set in reverse, but is set one way: those who have it don’t experience love for evil men; our emotional range for them is usually limited to hatred or indifference.

It becomes impossible to experience love and admiration, which is a response to values, when our automatized response to values is hatred.

Consider the full meaning of this attitude. Values are the drivers upon which we act to gain and to keep. Values are a necessity of our survival, and more widely: of any living creature’s survival.

Life is a process of self-sustaining and self-generated action, and the successful pursuit of values is a precondition of remaining alive.

Since nature does not provide man with an automatic knowledge of the code of values he requires, there are differences in the codes which men accept and the goals they pursue. What is the nature of a creature in which the sight of a value arouses hatred and the desire to destroy?

In the most profound sense of the term, such a creature is doomed. He is a killer, not a physical, but a metaphysical one.

He is not an enemy of your specific values, but of all values whatsoever, he is an enemy of anything that enables men to survive, he is an enemy of life as such and of everything living.

If you feel that way. Then you are serving the PTB.

The PTB don’t want to own your fortune, they want you to lose it; they don’t want to succeed, they want you to fail; they don’t want to live, they want you to die.

They desire nothing, they hate existence, and they keep running and pantomiming countless useless rituals, each trying not to learn that the object of his hatred is himself. They’re counting on your joining them and becoming a hater of the good just like them.

Don’t do that. Don’t let any part of the PTB’s mentality inside of you. The PTB are the essence of evil, They, those anti-living objects who seek, by devouring the world, to fill the selfless zero of their soul. They Live. Only in the sense the anti-life can anti-exist.

It is not your wealth that they’re after. Theirs is a conspiracy against the mind. They are against all life and all natural men. They seek to bring low, or eliminate, any individual or group who might get in the way of the low functioning zombie reality they have in store for everyone.

They are well aware that they are the not so good. The not even close. Rather than seek to improve. They see their safest course and only way forward to eliminate any kind of good whatsoever.

The extent to which that you practice and experience hatred of the good for being the good, is the extent to which you yourself are also a hollowed out zombie and codependent enabler of the PTB.

    • Tor, THAT is powerful stuff! Too many good ideas to restate them all but the one that stands out is:
Theirs is a conspiracy against the mind.

      Absolutely, precisely, exactly right.

If, as I think, there’s a Mind behind this universe, it’s a highly organized coherent mind. The universe is a construct of thought.

Why does the villain in 1984 want Winston to see five fingers when there are four? Why does the Common Core curriculum want 2 + 2 to be 5?

It’s the destruction of Mind, the abnegation of logic, order, of thought.

Man, Tor, you just nailed it with this post!

  6. Hmmmm….looks as though the cop failed to keep his end of the bargain, unless there’s something they ain’t telling us. Guess it goes to show that “they can kill us but they can’t eat us”.

  7. I agree with Tor here. If the dude really wanted to be killed and eaten, he was obviously mentally ill but he got his wish. That said, I wouldn’t doubt that this is just some bullshit media story where the cop killed some innocent guy and, in an attempt to cover it up, the mainstream media is giving some bullshit cover story complete with fake witnesses that claim the guy wanted to be killed and eaten since his childhood.

  8. 2 consenting adults doing something that affects no one but themselves.

Catching Fire lyric video for Coldplay song Atlas from latest Hunger Games movie.

The video shows how Syria was before the war broke out in March 2011. The middle and end show how it is now with millions of people leaving the country to find somewhere else to live. May your fat beef cows tongue burn within your mouth, you that dare moo about the righteousness of these pointless Hunger Games.

    • Hunger Games the movie is culture training for the unaware. They will come to accept it as normal because they saw it in the movies and are not scared away by it. The same with almost all current movie and computer game themes. War and hunger. Just like the whole zombie thing dressed up as entertainment. It is so simple to herd the cows to slaughter. Some globalist money, the correct script writers and then bought media. Voila! Meet the new (dictator/savior) boss and his crew.

      • Yep.

Because the mainstream media isn’t spoon feeding the masses knowledge, like “hey, if these movies are depicting a coming a apocalypse, you should self reflect and think what you yourself would do in a similar situation.” The sheeple masses are only mentally prepared for such a scenario, and they are mentally prepared (like they are currently) to beg the government for assistance.

What the media is actually doing is showing shows like “Doomsday Preppers” and such to demonize any individual who wants to live self sufficiently to give the illusion that it is wiser to look to the government for help. I mean hell, if you own your own business, you didn’t build that, other people (government) did! … 😉

All work and no play makes jack a dull boy…

        • @Jacob – You left out one of the “how’s”. Notice the females are the target and the new heroes? Pretty soon Barbie will be be out in her Zena Warrior Princess get up and sword (AR-15?). And the “men” are now subservient drooling fools to be led around by the new “smarter” Barbies. All the movies and TV shows I see go with this line. Disney is the worst. Goodby sweet loving fairy princess, Santa Clause and Snow White. They got Bamby’s mother, and now they are gunning for Bambi the younger.

Why? Because by nature women are emotionally driven, and will eat the “I believe it is good for us” line easier then testosterone unbelieving men. Got to castrate the men to avoid any resistance.

A theory & practice as old as war.

          • The feminization of men is most certainly upon us. Young women want a strong man to lead them through life, but amongst the masses there are a majority of weakling morons that desperately try to fit the mold the mainstream is trying to squish them into. That mold is “faggotry” and I apologize to anyone who might be offended by that but I can’t think of any other word other than “pussificiation” to describe what the mainstream is doing to those of us with testosterone.

Almost every lesbian I have met have been desperately looking for a strong man to lead them through life, but because they only meet weakling faggots they “accept” their roles as the dominant ones and seek out weaker females. I only say that from personal experience. I’m not tooting my own horn by any means, but 9/10 of the lesbians I’ve come across have fit the description I just described. I’m not saying it’s bad, by any means, to be homosexual… I just think there are a lot of “fake” homosexuals out there because of the fakeness that is the mainstream society. (Note: there are a lot of “fake” heterosexual relationships still out there where the relationship hinges on the money flow from “fake” mainstream things like housing prices that will inevitably crash again). Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m about to go party my ass off with some neighbors that think it’s very smart to invest all your money in real estate. (don’t show them this post, because I laugh my ass off after almost every conversation I have with them. They think they’re so enlightened by listening to certain mainstream media shows…. they have no idea they’ll get completely fucked like everyone before the 08′ crash but shhhh…. they’ll hear none of that and they’re fun to party with… until the next crash happens and they come running to people like me… but when that time comes they’ll be in for an extremely rude “awakening”…) PARTY ON GARTH!!!

            • It is hard to be a man in this society.

              They have effectively criminalized it.

You’re supposed to do as you’re told, to never question “the law” or “authority.” No wonder so many boys have to be drugged – and so many end up going batty.

Fred Reed has written some excellent stuff on the subject.

          • Jacob, I agree totally with you about lesbians looking for someone to be there for them, somebody with some backbone. I have seen this play out several times, knew their dads well or knew how they were. It’s almost as if sex isn’t even in the picture for them, they just want someone strong to be there. Well, party hearty and drink a few for me, send pictures. ha ha

          • @Roth – Ha ha. Re Rockwell article – Who is teaching the teachers? That is the source of what is wrong. The teacher in the room is just the dumb street cop for the NWO agrnda.

          • Women cops are the worst.

Most have a grudge – either against men, or against being women.

They’re as a rule physically inferior to men – ergo, they have to rely more on Tazers and guns to enforce compliance.

Thus, they are more likely to escalate – and escalate to lethality sooner.

            Of a piece: Female firefighters.

Now, I have no issue with a female firefighter who can pick up and carry 200 pounds of deadweight out of a building. Few can do that, though. Not many can pick up and carry 100 pounds. That ought to be an automatic disqualifier – regardless of what’s between your legs. But women get a pass for the sake of “equality of opportunity” and “diversity.”

          • Dear Gary,

The NWO coopting of media trends is real, and extremely ominous.

That said, it does not mean that everything has been coopted, yet.

If we’re not careful, the total mind control you speak of will come to pass. But it has not come to pass yet.

The Hunger Games probably has a heroine instead of a hero, because the novelist’s first name is Suzanne, not because of modern day misanthropy.

The misanthropy is real. But it is not universal, yet.

Novelists almost always write themselves into their own novels. The protagonist in any novel, is almost always the author, in disguise. Novels are almost always crypto-autobiographies.

            Background

Collins has said that the inspiration for The Hunger Games came from channel surfing on television. On one channel she observed people competing on a reality show and on another she saw footage of the invasion of Iraq. The two “began to blur in this very unsettling way” and the idea for the book was formed.[2] The Greek myth of Theseus served as a major basis for the story, with Collins describing Katniss as a futuristic Theseus, and Roman gladiatorial games provided the framework. The sense of loss that Collins developed through her father’s service in the Vietnam War was also an influence on the story, with Katniss having lost her father at age 11, five years before the story begins.[3] Collins stated that the deaths of young characters and other “dark passages” were the most difficult parts of the book to write, but that she had accepted that passages such as these were necessary to the story.[4] She considered the moments where Katniss reflects on happier moments in her past to be more enjoyable.[4]

          • @Bevin – You may very well be right.

What I saw is the sub-adult portrayal of the heroin, war, proper killing is OK, etc. Any cultural agreed system of justice, peaceful coexistence and a bright future is subdued or missing.

In other words if I am a 10 year old girl watching, what am I thinking. Easily influenced very young children who have no understanding of the past is the target demographic, This is not an adult movie.

“Katniss Everdeen voluntarily takes her younger sister’s place in the Hunger Games, a televised fight to the death in which two teenagers from each of the twelve Districts of Panem are chosen at random to compete.” Predictive behavior? It has all the elements IMHO.

I also saw a massive mega-million dollar movie production, which must be done by large corporations, not individuals. And a truly massive roll-out of the production and secondary market. Advertising, clothing, Christmas toys, computer games, on and on. No single author could do that.

Similar to Harry Potter some years earlier. Very dark and relies on wizards, unseen forces and warlocks to win. As an adult I can see it as fantasy and entertainment done well. As a sub-adult what is the mental take-away that is embedded in my psyche?

          • Dear Gary,

            I hope I’m not being overly optimistic. I don’t believe I am.

As I said, the “predictive programming” that Tor and you have mention, is all too real. It is intended. It is planned. It probably constitutes the vast majority of what we see in the MSM, especially the “news.”

But I for one do not believe it is universal… yet. The Bilderbergers have not succeeded in wiping out all dissent… yet.

Also, even if it were successfully imposed for a time. I’m not sure it could be sustained long term.

There are historical precedents for my optimism. Mainland China during the 50s and 60s was even more tightly controlled than the USSA is today. An entire generation of young people grew up under hardline Maoist Communism.

Yet look at the pendulum swing that has taken place since the 80s, in the other direction.

Like Meth, another optimist, I tend to believe that our side will win because reality is on our side. As anyone who has ever attempted to actively defy reality know, she can be a real bitch.

          • @bevin – Think time. Not today, a progressively implemented directed step at a time process. Think back 10, 20, 30 years ago. Today’s world would be an Outer Limits TV show.

Re China. Follow the money flows since 1978. It is/ has been drained from the west and migrated to the Orient. Workers needed, products made and consumed, profits to be made. Mao’s system had to be modified.

          • @garysco:

Yes, that’s their plan–and thus far it’s been masterfully executed. Well–until about 2008, when the first noticeable jolt came. It wasn’t as serious as the 70’s stagflation in depth or duration (that’s coming), but it was noticeable as the largest discord between public will and political action. The politicians ignored the people calling them 100:1 against the bailouts.

            Something was afoot.

That trend has accelerated massively; I’ve speculated here that it’s partially the impatience of the most senior psychopaths Rockefeller, older Rothschild, Queen Beatrice, Queen Elizabeth, and their most trusted minions Kissinger, Brezinski, et al. They’re superannuated, full of arrogance–and ready and tired of waiting.

They’re also behind by about a decade, according to Brezinski.

So the carefully-laid plans, the massive perversion of the culture controlled mostly by Tavistock–all their machinations–now lie completely exposed for anyone to see who’s looking. And many, many are now looking–

            Because of the reality-jolts like 2001, 2008.

Did they intentionally siphon off American manufacturing and wealth to China? Of course–the globalists created Mao, now declassified. Kissinger brokered the deal; Nixon came later to visit and essentially give it his blessing. It’s been downhill since then.

But even the Chinese, with their long history of slavery like the Slavs, are restless as hell. As Brezinski–speaking of Slavs–said, “there is a global political awakening unprecedented in history.”

The factors they’ve miscalculated, in rough order of power, I think are these:
            1) Christianity–they’ve worked feverishly to kill it off. Most mainline churches are nothing but hollow shells, their “pastors” thinly disguised federal agents. But its core is dangerously libertarian; and it offers a God above the State–an unacceptable philosophy
            2) Guns–I think they were very surprised in April, and they’re not idiots; they know we’re getting our asses kicked in Iraq and Afghanistan. Imagine the same game played here?
            3) Cultural resilience–as much as they’ve perverted and subjugated the American “exceptionalism”, they still don’t have the willing slaves they had in the Bolshevik or Maoist revolutions. Americans are still too stubborn; and the residue of Judeo-Christian values continues to stymie their cultural overthrow.
            4) The Internet–which was probably designed to be a surveillance and control grid, has destroyed their most valuable propaganda mechanism.

They’ve done tremendous damage. I don’t think America will survive as such; I think it’s going to split up. And it’s going to be hellish in the meantime.

But they are not going to get their technocracy, their immortality, and their full-blown neo-feudalism. Huxley was wrong; Prozac doesn’t make us love our servitude.

          • @meth- I hope you are right. Other than anger and listening to Alex Jones, what do they know? I fear a couple of things need to be cleared up before I am convinced.

            1. The dollar and banker generated myth money in general. Unless great numbers “go Galt” on their system of financial slavery there is no hope. It is the glue that binds the taxing, war and corporate-consumption profit machine to the public weather they like it or not.
Witness “our” 100:1 Cheshire Cat politicians still writing checks they think I should cash, or else. Not a single one in jail since the exposed fraud crash that started in 2007. Lots of noise and finger pointing, but no correct action.

            2. An aware & educated population large enough to fix #1.

            3. An agreed, detailed, replacement system that does not result in localized mob rule.

Human nature abhors a vacuum. Some thinking people can live with Libertarian freedom, but most as of today would not know what to do with it. Like a child turned loose in a closed candy store. I now see several groups, mostly religious (but not all) vying for that position of control should they get the chance.

        • We had a discussion about The Hunger Games on another thread; Bevin and I are of the strong opinion that she’s on the level, and probably one of us.

I think the books are a modern 1984–a strong warning, and a demonization of the tyrants and their Trendy-Lackey class.

However–Hot Rod, Garysco, you’re right on target that many of these things including the zombie craze are “predictive programming”.

Alex Jones actually talks about this often; it’s why people are suddenly being eaten by coyotes. It’s typically yuppie women out for a job. They’ve been programmed by horror movies that When You Are Female, your roll when chased by a predator is to Make Dying/Moaning/Pathetic Noises, and then Fall To The Ground and Crawl Backwards Pitifully.

This makes it easy for formally timid predators like coyotes to eat people.

And for predator government to do the same.

Is The Hunger Games predictive programming? Perhaps for the exceptionally weak. For the rest, I’m fervently hoping it’s an energizing dose of “here’s what tyranny looks like, folks, and it SUCKS!”

          • Whoops! I meant to write “…out for a jog

P.S. can’t remember who was talking about keyboards, but I suddenly remembered how much I loved my old mechanical Model M imitation….and ordered a das keyboard Model S Ultimate.

            Thank you for the reminder!

          • meth, you da man. Ed wanted a new keyboard and I steered him to das keyboard. Awesome things aren’t they? I want one of the silent types, think it’s the green one. I need a new keyboard too, badly since my best one got kittie food in it while I slept. My wife doesn’t use a keyboard. I’m going to try your method to bring one back to life though. I had a fairly decent HP, dated from about 2000.

          • That’s right, it was YOU 8-south! Thanks man–I’ve been suffering these fucking chiclet-cheapie keyboards for too long. A software professional should use a professional tool…

…it’s like a member of the symphony using a plastic violin instead of a Stradivarius.

I had to use a laptop to do development work for almost a year. Sucked. Balls. Laptops, even the fastest one you can possibly get, are useless for software development. Those effeminate guys you see sitting at Starbucks with all their trendy linux stickers, staring intently at the screen hoping desperately someone will be impressed that they’re Serious Coders&trade? Yup. Pretenders.

Once you get past about 50K lines and two dozen modules, you spend A LOT of time compiling and testing. The faster your rig, the tighter the think-code-test-debug loop becomes.

So I treated myself to a serious rig–a six-core CPU hyperthreaded so it’s 12 virtual cores, overclocked to 4.6GHz and some insanely fast memory and hard drives. My buddies refer to it as “the God box”. The lights dim when it’s thinking hard. It requires liquid cooling. Women who know tech–treat me like I drive a Veyron.

But I’ve been suffering a ukelele keyboard instead of the Stradivarius such a serious piece of kit deserves.

Can’t wait to get the das keyboardit’s so frikkin’ serious, it doesn’t even have labels on the keys!

If Chuck Norris were a coder, he’s use this keyboard.
If Stevie Wonder were a coder, he couldn’t use this keyboard because it doesn’t even have braille.

If the HealthCare.gov coders had used this keyboard, it still wouldn’t have worked. Because they’re so incompetent even this wouldn’t help.

          • People are suddenly being eaten by coyotes? Really? Wow.
No wonder the cops act the way they do.

“your roll when chased by a predator is to Make Dying/Moaning/Pathetic Noises, and then Fall To The Ground and Crawl Backwards Pitifully.

This makes it easy for formally timid predators like coyotes to eat people.” …

I may not soon forget that comment.

          • meth, I laughed out loud when it showed the Mac keyboard with symbols. It was just funny. They claim 10 -20% speed improvement, wow, I’ll be at 11 or 12 wpm. This keyboard I’m using is so shitty I have no idea what my speed could be. It’s so hard to push the keys I’m reminded of an old Royal manual typewriter. Naw, the Royal had much better keys. Chuck Norris, Stevie Wonder, Obamacare, great stuff. Still laughing. I need to pick your brain. I need a new computer but vowed I’d build it. A couple my old college buds build their own but nothing like yours. I was one of the first people I even knew who knew about dual cores and 64 bits.

          • 8-south, you’ll be very happy with a DIY machine.

I *always* build my own, because I know I’m getting good quality components in every part.

You don’t have to build a megabox, either. I put together my latest HTPC–home theater PC–a few months ago. Used a cheap dual-core Intel CPU with built-in graphics, 4GB RAM, decent 1TB Western Digital drive and quality ASUS motherboard. Case, powersupply, mouse rounded out the package–for the princely sum of $380.

‘Course it’s not a speed demon. But it slurps down all the torrents and nzb’s for my movies, displays said movies in HD no problem, and does basic web surfing beautifully. Helps it’s running Linux (Ubuntu); probably Windows would like a little more RAM.

If you want a little more performance, the latest quad-core chips are really reasonable and their built-in graphics chip is totally fine except for hard-core gaming. I bet you could build one for under $700 and have a quality, clean machine.

I loathe those junky HP’s etc.

          • @meth – Who is writing and signing off on the movie scripts and TV shows. No accidents in the big world of control when you see a common thread over and over.

          • @Meth – “8-south, you’ll be very happy with a DIY machine.

I *always* build my own, because I know I’m getting good quality components in every part.”

I used to do that too. Still would if I was building a screaming liquid cooled power box. But these days the Chinese got us down for the dollar exchange.

            Two models available today – 15″ Gateway laptop, 4 GB w/warranty and Windows 8. – $248.00.

Download Ubuntu for free and a HDMI cable. Done. Although I would be tempted to add/ swap for a $99.00 solid state drive to help the little poker along.

            http://www.frys.com/search?resultpage=0&start=0&rows=25&pType=pDisplay&cat=-68384&fq=100319+Windows_8&inq=gateway&x=0&y=0

          • A computer keyboard without labels when I’ve never seen two identical layouts between brands in my life. sounds like fun.
Where’s the ~ key? Who knows, just try randomly until it appears…. Where’s esc? Another key that moves around… I could go on. Once they appear I guess all is well but real pain in the ass learning curve.

On another note, I’ve never met a woman who cared about any of the technology I use… I must be in the wrong circles…

          • Thanks to you guys, I finally watched Hunger Games last night. I suspect (hope) the book was better – as was the case with regard to Starship Troopers.

That said, I liked the way the elites were portrayed:

            Depraved, nihilistic, vacuous. Empty.

That was of a piece with the original Matrix in terms of its positive subversive message.

Based on that alone, I conclude the author is one of us.

          • @Eric – Don’t let the deeper plot / psychological message of the movie evade you. View it as a much younger, inexperienced viewer (who it is marketed to anyway).

-The conditions are accepted slavery and deprivation.
-The “people” don’t resist or revolt.
-The older ones are ineffectual and not of value.
-The hero is female and extremely young, but is the accepted master aggressor.

There are a couple more that I saw as a constant drum beat theme flowing through all current entertainment, but that will do for starters.

            • Morning, Gary!

              Yup. Also:

The white males are either effeminate and ineffectual (the male lead character) or violent and insecure (the secondary character killed and thrown to the wild hogs at the end of the movie).

I’ve noticed (because it’s hard to miss) this theme running through all forms of media. White males are dumb and passive; they need to be shown how to do things/are helpless without the direction of (typically) either a female or a black friend (Iron Man, for instance).

          • Garysco, while I don’t care to have to use a laptop keyboard, I could do a work-around with an add-on keyboard but how do I get around Winders Ate? I’d pay more for XP. I can see me coming in wanting a schematic or parts exploder or looking up parts and having to make my hands perfectly clean to use Winders Ate. After a few months(hey, can you see what’s on the monitor?) I know you don’t have to use the touch screen but I’m just sayin.

          • meth, I just noticed you had an Amazon link there for das keyboard. On their website they have two discounts that total $25 so it’s $120 from them. You probably knew this though.

          • @Garysco–On another note, I’ve never met a woman who cared about any of the technology I use… I must be in the wrong circles…

Well, it’s a pretty good bet you wouldn’t want to reciprocate the admiration in this case. Have you seen a female programmer lately? There aren’t many and it’s not a beauty contest.

          • @Garysco and @Eric re: Hunger Games and sub-dominant themes…

Ugh. You guys are right; YES it’s good anti-authoritarian agitprop. But I’m so used to the “men are stupid, especially fathers, and especially those clueless white fathers” theme that I didn’t even notice it.

            Yup. But still–it’s powerfully anti-authoritarian.

If you read the entire trilogy, you’ll be very, very satisfied–believe me, the slaves don’t accept their servitude for long!

Also, the passivity of the slaves is pretty accurate; it’s always a small minority that agitates for change.

          • Considering that the U.S military pays for the movie industry to sponsor war and war like behavior I think there is a motive force of money and government power behind the scenes. Women have it hard. Anyone ever married to one or had a sister or cousing they loved will understand. I believe women truly are the stronger species of men when it comes to physical endurance. I doubt men could handle for example losing that much blood a month and still be alive to talk about it. Child birth is quite extraordinary mind versus matter as far as I’m concerned.

Though like you guys I believe that men are born aggressive and more muscular for a reason. We also are more wired for material assimlation and are usually much more critical thinkers, though my wife seems to be the exception.

The motive force here for the movies potraying the female as the warrior is again the war machine. Notice how they are getting women to soon be drafted? McCain would be proud if his daughter served and got raped in the military. So would Linsey Graham. First it starts with GI Jane and then the politicians push for female warriors. In essense I suspect that the Rockefeller’s aren’t content enough with having the female having to work 3 jobs and raise kids (hand them over to the pub schools). They just aren’t done fucking with women’s brains and thus the American family. They have to make butch dykes out of them and turd their brains up like all the men in this country that had to fight unnecessary wars. Its probably all part of the plan. The military like any other organization wants to project its power on as many members of society it can. And the rich crowned money counterfeiters want any critical thinking decimated and what better way to do that then to upset a bond between mother and her children. Its worked perfectly. And the movies are the tip of the spear as far as I see.

            HR

          • Well said Hot Rod, I completely agree.

You should register on the forums here so we can continue discussions like these without having to reply to comments that are like 10 comments in front of the ones we’re trying to reply to.

Also, I think the last thing McCain’s pig of a daughter would have to fear in the military is being sexually violated, or if she did it would be just as much of a punishment for the attacker 😀

          • @meth – View all recent and future “entertainment” with the concurrent public school training for the next generations in mind. You will soon see the the subtle indoctrination.

Accepting of military glory is one part, but only a part of the whole. What is never presented is what happens after the victory.

The plan launched officially 9/11/01, will be implemented in the 2025- 2036 time line, and finished by 2050.

            1. Your elders have nothing to offer, only listen to the presented “experts”. The elders are borderline senile and do not understand.

            2. Only the very young , well below 30 years old, will be the heroes and female or gay if the script allows. Because they will castrate errant “politically incorrect” males and have no awareness of the ancient and hidden “arts of war” as practiced by our NWO masters. Simplistic guns and hate war will be there for you to assimilate and be entertained by. Why are they dumbing-down the children to adulthood? Children should not vote because they are too young to have understanding.

            3. Solutions are formed by “group think” which is led by “facilitators”.

            4. Understanding of real history and philosophy is to be eliminated. Revisionism-street training incarnate. Word meanings changed or lost completely . All done by keeping the mind occupied with Newspeak high school and college classes, drugs, meaningless junk “water cooler” talk and most importantly lots and lots of cheap entertainment in all its forms.

          • 8, if I was stuck with a newer computer with W8 on it, I’d just wipe the hard drive and install XP, if Windows is your thang. Geek Squad will do it for you at the box store for $100 or so. Otherwise, just download the latest Puppy linux and the GRUB bootloader and use Puppy w/ the Seamonkey browser to surf the web.

The speed of a 100mg O/S that runs in the RAM on your current machine will blow your hair back. All the Windows O/S are RAM hogs, and off the shelf computers usually come with the minimum RAM it takes to run Windows. That’s about 20 times the RAM that Puppy needs. Talk about speed. Aw mane.

I usually install the maximum memory as soon as I get a computer, and that makes it smoother for me, even though I only use mine for net surfing, photos and watching DVDs.

          • Ed, I’m a bad boy. I’ve been saying I would switch to Linux since it was just a whisper but I never have. I’m not married to anything. XP is all I know but i’m serious about changing now. Every time I get a computer I slog along, get pissed and then max it out any way I can, always with max RAM. The first computer I bought had a huge amount of RAM. I don’t recall how much, something along 120 something, huge, and my computer friends were miffed I got the biggest thing on the market for a first computer. It actually was big longer than anything since but laughable these days. Oh no, I had a 3Meg 95 1st edition, you ‘d have to install the software you needed right then and then uninstall it so you could install something else to do another task. Yeh, that was computing at it’s finest.

          • Dear Meth,

            I agree.

I think we have to be careful about too hastily slapping a “predictive programming” label on any media that deals with the subject of statism.

Often a critique of statism can take on the same outside contours as a paean to statism. For example, was the political satire “Wag the Dog” a convenient blueprint by which the Clintonistas could divert attention away from Monicagate?

If one is determined to read it that way, well there’s probably not much I can say in response.

But I for one am pretty sure it was meant as a scathing indictment of the mendacity of the PTB.

Often one has to remember that in life, many phenomenon are like the classic two faces in profile/vase silhouette. It depends on how you choose to perceive it.

Sometimes the PTB may be behind “predictive programming” and lo and behold, it may well backfire.

            One example:

We the Living… was made into a two-part film, Noi Vivi and Addio, Kira in 1942. Prior to their release, the films were nearly censored by Mussolini’s government, but they were permitted because the story itself was set in Soviet Russia and was directly critical of that regime.

The films were successful, and the public easily realized that they were as much against fascism as communism.

After several weeks, German authorities, who were allied with the Italian government, insisted that the film be pulled from distribution because of its anti-Fascist themes.

The PTB may want audiences to see the vase. But audiences may well simply choose to see the two faces in profile instead.

    • Tor, my first thought was astounding odds letting two like minded people find each other. One being a cop doesn’t really mean much to me. I would have suggested the victim leave a note exonerating the eator. I don’t see a victim except for the cop.

      • 8, if XP is what you’re used to, just ask a local Geek Squad if they can install XP on what you’re using now. The last few times I’ve bought a computer, I got one of my customers who fixes computers to install XP on them.

Starting with Vista, Windows became a real hassle for me. I went back to the XP Pro O/S and have been using it ever since. My wife is an SAP analyst and she still uses XP on her work computer and laptop. Those newer versions of Windows make no sense to me. That Win8 would probably drive me insane in a day or two.

        • Ed & 8,

I gave up windows 6.5 years ago for ubuntu linux. Never been happier. XP was a heck of alot better than what they got now in my opinion and I still use it in a sun virtual box hosted off my linux partition. I mean if I want a windows machine I just start it inside of linux ubuntu as a virtual machine. The virtual machine also has nice restore points. Not just of the system registry, but the entire state of the virtual hard drive if I need to go back in time due to windows XP burping and crashing.

When I was doing XP I was backing both my wife and my computer up weekly because it was so notorius for breaking weekly. I probably had 40 engineering applications that I needed for contracting. Then I moved to linux and I rarely back up the hard drive more than every 6 months. Though I still backup my business work weekly. Its a smooth rider this linux OS. But I believe that the Ubuntu desktop was near perfect, until they decided to emulate Windows 10 and make it a touchpad kiddy software. Ubuntu since created its own touchy button OS called unity. I hated it and rolled over back to gnome desktop. At some point in the near future I suppose I’ll upgrade to Linux Mint. But the neat thing about Linux is that there is no hurry. I’ve still got all the vulnerabilities addressed and I can clone the entire hard drive onto a new computer without some antipiracy OS requiring me verify the computer PIN (so stupid). I’ve cloned my current OS about 3 times to different and newer computers.

Linux has a bit of learning curve for beginning users, but I must say that if I told anyone what disk to load the first time it would be a Mint Linux and not Ubuntu.

I’d never go back to microsuck again as I’m in total control of my computer and hardware. Oh and viruses are next to nil too.

          Regards,
          HR

          • Dear Everyone,

Linux Mint is a good alternative to Windoze if you want to go the Linux route but also want to avoid maddening, never ending configuration hassles.

I’ve used nearly a dozen Linux Mint distros. Most installed glitch free and ready to roll.

            About Us

The purpose of Linux Mint is to produce a modern, elegant and comfortable operating system which is both powerful and easy to use.

Started in 2006, Linux Mint is now the 4th most widely used home operating system behind Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac OS and Canonical’s Ubuntu.

Some of the reasons for the success of Linux Mint are:

It works out of the box, with full multimedia support and is extremely easy to use.
It’s both free of cost and open source.
It’s community-driven. Users are encouraged to send feedback to the project so that their ideas can be used to improve Linux Mint.
Based on Debian and Ubuntu, it provides about 30,000 packages and one of the best software managers.
It’s safe and reliable. Thanks to a conservative approach to software updates, a unique Update Manager and the robustness of its Linux architecture, Linux Mint requires very little maintenance (no regressions, no antivirus, no anti-spyware…etc).

          • Bevin,

Exactly. The problem for most people who want to try a Linux distro is that they have the chicken and egg complex. I had a guy at a contract position actually go out of his way and show me Ubuntu desktop. I was so impressed that he just went ahead and created me a CD-ROM for loading. I’d probably never have bought the live CD for loading on my own as the last time I had seen Linux (6 years earlier) it was nearly unusable, almost every application had to be searched on the web, then configured for the OS and compiled. This all became easier than microsoft when the FOSS (free and open source software) became easily accessible with package managers and download sites. Its so sad to see Microsoft users get a new computer and have to start all over reloading and configuring their computers back to what they want in applications. As you know when you use linux distros you simply go to the package manager for any software you so dream about do a keyword search for that application, make a check mark for install and click on the add button. 3-4 minutes later you got a fully functional application for free. Not to mention with Linux you can do free upgrades without losing your desktop configuration and applications. And you can clone the entire OS onto a new computer without any piracy/driver issues overriding it.

Further why you can use XP forever on Linux partitions is because in a sun vitual box (free) the virtual computer (XP) never see’s any real hardware only the virtual hardware of the host OS (Linux). Thus even though XP can access the internet in a virtual box its sharing the Linux OS network connection. Therefore the hosted XP never needs to know the latest and greatest network card and drivers.

Truth is that when you first start using Linux you’ll think you are going to miss all your windows applications. So you’ll be using the sun virtual box and wine to run your windows applications in a hosted virtual box quite a bit. But over time as you try the FOSS software you’ll really start to like them more than those crap programs for charge on Microsoft. I still need a XP virtualbox or wine inside my Linux for say applications I use for engineering where there is no Linux alternative. Though that is changing very rapidly as most software companies are starting to support Linux native compiled versions. Again this pay for software is so rare you’d have to be an engineer or an obsessed video gamer to know what isn’t available on Linux and not available for free on the FOSS. Most people want a good browser, a great document editor, and possibly email. Those kind of applications are ready to go out of the box on Linux Mint.

The chicken and egg part is that you need an OS load (Live CD-Rom) to start the install. Thus unless you take it on faith and go to the Mint site and pay for a copy of the CD-Rom/Flash drive to be sent to load it, then you are kind of stuck in a loop. For example you can download the full .ISO image over your high speed network to a microsoft computer. But then what? If you want to copy and image on a flash drive that is doable but if you want to burn your own live CD you need a ISO burner. This costs money on Microsuck products but is free on Linux FOSS users. So unless you know another Linux user your best option might to buy the most recent copy directly from the Mint distro website and have it mailed to you sneaker mail.

The Linux given a Live CD-Rom or flash is unbelievably easy to install on any computer. Just follow the prompts, and yes it will install a Grub to let you decide at bootup whether you want to start into Linux or the Windows thats already preinstalled with your computer. The windows software installed with a new computer is still there on another partition if you want to boot into it, so installing Linux will not be a exclusive relationship to Windows. Linux is actually quite generous in keeping things available like windows, where the opposite is not true.

Anyway, once you get a live CD or flash, you’ll spend about a month learning how to install applications you like and get used to them. Bevin or myself can offer other hints for how to run say virtualbox or wine, or your windows application directly inside linux if you so desire. Its a beautiful system and its unbelievably robust. I know this might sound like all hype as I was skeptical that it was all that when first shown, but compared to Windows its truly all that.

            Regards,
            HR

          • Dear HR,

I’d probably never have bought the live CD for loading on my own as the last time I had seen Linux (6 years earlier) it was nearly unusable, almost every application had to be searched on the web, then configured for the OS and compiled.

I tried to go the LInux route years earlier but was stymied by the exact same problem. Many distros were allegedly “plug and play” so to speak, but weren’t. Not really. Mandrake was supposed to be, but I couldn’t even get a screen image! The video driver would not configure!

Ubuntu was better. But Mint really turned the trick. Everything was ready to go once the install disc was run. Including proprietary, non open source media codecs.

          • Bevin,

I know what you mean. Those proprietary media codecs being installed for the user with Linux Mint are the trick. I’ve never had much problem except when I’m cloning my Ubuntu to another computer. But if I wanted a fresh install for say my parents, I’d go with Mint because there is more hassle finding the proprietary drivers with Ubuntu. I think Mark Shuttleworth is a bit to Puritanical on the proprietary drivers. I mean I think it is awesome that no proprietary video drivers are still be developed for older radeon cards. I had one junker computer I gave a new lease to life because of open source reverse engineering of the drivers. But nothing compares to proprietary drivers for nvidia and radeon, and when you just don’t want to fart around you are going to want the easiest path to a working computer and Ubuntu just isn’t it anymore.

That said I notice there is two Desktops availble one is “Cinnamon” and the other “Mate”. What is the difference and what do you prefer or suggest 8 should use?

I don’t want to pose as an expert on this. That’s for sure! The very reason I use Mint is that I’m merely an end user, a passive consumer, not a software expert. I hate line commands, with a passion.

I myself had to look this up a couple of days ago, when I downloaded Mint 16. Haven’t even had time to install it yet.

            MATE vs Cinnamon?

I’ve been using Cinnamon because it is said to be more complete.

Yep, me too. Back about ’06 I tried several different linux distros. PC Linux, the most recommended one, failed to support Nvidia cards, as did several others. What worked for me then, and the only one I use now, is Puppy. I can run it by booting up on a live CD, and then removing the CD. It doesn’t require an installation, it just uses a tiny partition on my hard drive, and it has everything I need to access the internet or play movies on DVD, which is all I use it for.

For applications such as printing or image software, I send the job to another of my machines. I haven’t actually needed a bigger linux O/S since fast and secure internet browsing is all I want from a linux distro.

          • Dear Everyone,

Re: Which Linux Mint release to get?

Interesting fact: Certain releases are designated as LTS or Long Term Support releases. They are aimed at people who don’t want to update frequently. I’m guessing business firms.

Linux Mint 13 Code Name “Maya” is the most recent LTS release.

13 Maya Ubuntu Precise Long term support release (LTS), supported until April 2017.

            http://www.linuxmint.com/oldreleases.php

That may be a factor one should consider in picking a Linux Mint release.

          • I should probably try linux again for actual use. It was really rough when I was doing it. Searching forums for answers, hacking at things, hours and hours upon hours of work to make it work right. I was all-unix-all-the-time back then. Now I don’t use unix much. Windoze…. I got sick of doing things the hard way and apple had to go and make NeXTSTEP look like macOS. That turned me off because while I really liked NeXTSTEP I have always hated MacOS.

I did try a memory stick install of some linux of some sort on a machine I pulled from the trash. It actually worked well without me doing much. But it was a quick experiment to see how much performance I could squeeze out of it for a specific task and that software said the machine was too weak even and it didn’t work. Don’t know if things would have gone well if I had subjected modern linux to getting the machine set up the way I like.

          • Ok, all this off-topic slumgullion has rurned my damn life once again. I had been bumpin along fine with my poor old machines, and then the links to the Mint site led me to a couple of computer assemblers’ sites and now I’ve got to have a linux machine.

I hope y’all are satisfied. Seeing new computers just made me more aware that my machines are just slam eat up with XP. well, at least I can get a new desktop for $250-500……..Shit.

          • Dear Ed,

Clearly we’ve all been there, done that!

PC Linux. I tried to make that work too. No dice.

Update: Even Mint isn’t always perfect. Mint 16 apparently wouldn’t install properly on my current hardware. The live DVD worked fine. But once I installed it, the desktop refused to appear for some damned reason.

Tried both Cinnamon and MATE. No dice. Had to revert to my previous install of Mint 14.1. I guess if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

My experience is that two pieces of hardware are the most troublesome: graphics cards and printers.

I’ve owned all sorts of inkjets and lasers. The cost of keeping them operating was just too high. So for rough hard copies, I use an antiquated dot matrix printer. Consumable costs are low. Images are adequate for reference purposes.

If I need a high res copy, I make a PDF and email to myself at the office, and print it out on their high end printer/copier.

        • If you have a newer machine the likelihood of getting drivers for XP to work are virtually nil and so its a waste of time. The closest you can come to the old classic desktop is to install something like Classic Shell. I’ve had it installed on my Win7 and 8 laptops because 8 drives me absolutely bat shit crazy while 7, which is far more approachable, is just quirky enough that the shell helped iron things out. Seems only the odd numbered releases are any good.

          • @Mot – You are correct. I have a new Gateway NE51 (Windows 8) notebook that I tried loading XP sp-3 on to a clean hard drive. No go, the newer chipset made the install a disaster without a fix.

          • Guess my little scheme wouldn’t work out. 😉 So, if I were stuck with a Win8 machine, I would sell it on Craigslist and buy a later edition IBM P4 machine and install 2G of RAM to run XP and Puppy on a coexist through GRUB.

Luckily, I never fucked up and bought anything with Win8. Only my aversion to buying new computers has saved me.

          • MoT, Bevin, Hot Rod, I went to the Linux Mint homepage and find there are three versions. I also looked at Puppy and everyone running it is in love with it so they say. I don’t have a clue as to which one I should use and don’t find anyone with a CD for sale or otherwise. The last time I thought about using Linux seriously was several years ago and free CD’s were available. I can’t remember what version it was, seems like you could get Ubuntu then and a plain vanilla Linux. I don’t have a download option since the link to the server is always crapping out for me on dial up. Now I’m really confused…..and should be used to it by now since that’s my normal state of mind. Maybe it was nearly getting snakebit that’s causing my more than usual confusion.

          • What I do to run the older systems is use Vmware Player and set up a “virtual machine” with XP, Mint, what have you, and run it that way. It works well enough for what most of us have to do without throwing good equipment away or losing all that ancient software we’ve accumulated. You may not be able to play all the old games but at least the productivity stuff works just fine.

          • @8 – Go back to the mint website and download the user manual (.pdf). It is really good at explaining the product, and which one is for you.

          • Dear 8sm,

MoT, Bevin, Hot Rod, I went to the Linux Mint homepage and find there are three versions.

Those in the know way most people should go for

            Linux Mint 16 “Petra” Cinnamon
            http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2489

            System requirements:

x86 processor (Linux Mint 64-bit requires a 64-bit processor. Linux Mint 32-bit works on both 32-bit and 64-bit processors).
512 MB RAM (1GB recommended for a comfortable usage).
            5 GB of disk space
Graphics card capable of 800×600 resolution
            CD/DVD drive or USB port

This is the most feature packed version. You probably won’t have to install anything more on top of this.

          • 8,

            I’d buy:

            http://on-disk.com/product_info.php/manufacturers_id/70/products_id/1547

That will be ediiton 15 or Olivia since they don’t seem to offer the newest DVD version 16 Petra yet on DVDs. Though there are some advantages in Linux about staying behind the curve on most recent version anyway. I always stay one or more revisions below the current in Ubuntu because they are more likelier to be buggy if you go to new. Though this isn’t really true as much with Mint because they are much slower in turning out versions and generally are thus bug free. The thing is 8 if you buy Olivia you’ll still be able to upgrade to Petra immediately online if you want.

            Anyway hope that helps.

As Bevin pointed out that you want to choose 32 or 64 bit architecture when you order that DVD, and are always safe with 32 if you don’t know. 64 bit architecture should in theory take advantage of much better opcodes and thus speedier microprocessor operations, though last time I checked the actual implementation of these in software compilers was the biggest hurdle anyway. I started out with a 32 bit architecture a long time ago on a laptop. Instead of starting fresh reinstalls (because I wanted to keep my menus) I just upgraded over the years to newer versions. And I’ve changed computers from the 32 bit to 64bit architecture, but still have a 32 bit OS. I see no perfomance issues running a 64 bit computer with a 32 bit OS. Maybe if I were doing massive computations that required large operations this would be more apparent. So for most people 32 bit OS is entirely satisfactory even if you have a 64 bit computer.

            Regards,
            HR

          • MoT, HR, Ed, Bevin, Garysco, everybody, thanks for the info. I WILL use one. I’ve been cussing ms way too long. Stick me with a fork, I’m done. Oh, Ed, I discovered a new laptop from Linux Mint, looked really neat and was $476….not bad for the specs it had. I got it off that techradar site I think Bevin posted. Found it. I’ll repost it from Bevin

            http://www.techradar.com/news/software/operating-systems/how-mighty-mint-became-one-of-the-most-popular-linux-distros-1146584

          • @8 – Just a follow-up. I have one of those $245.00 Gateway’s that I linked to, and have been playing with Ubuntu since Windows 8 is so stupidly designed for dumb-asses who can only finger paint on their tablets. Ubuntu was OK, not great, so yesterday I installed Mint “mate 64 bit”. Looks great, and a very easy learning curve. What Windows should be.
