iwantyouFormer Texas Congressman Ron Paul has launched an effort to secure clemency for NSAiwantyou whistleblower Edward Snowden. The “Demand Clemency for Edward Snowden” petition is posted on the Ron Paul channel.

“Edward Snowden shocked the world when he exposed the NSA’s illegal and abusive spying program. Instead of applauding him for his bravery and patriotism, the U.S. government labels Snowden a traitor,” the page states. “Join Ron Paul in demanding that Edward Snowden is granted clemency. Sign the Petition. Let’s bring Edward home before his amnesty in Russia expires on July 31, 2014.”

Snowden’s asylum in Russia, however, may extend past July. Last month Alexy Pushkov, a Russian legislator who heads up the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Duma, said his government will extend asylum protection.

Although recently nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by two Norwegian lawmakers, Snowden is considered a traitor by many in the United States. A number of politicians have called for him to be extradited, prosecuted and executed.

Ron Paul’s son, Rand, disagrees with this father. He does not believe Snowden should receive clemency. “I don’t think Edward Snowden deserves the death penalty or life in prison. I think that’s inappropriate. And I think that’s why he fled, because that’s what he faced,” he told ABC in January. “I think the only way he’s coming home is if someone would offer him a fair trial with a reasonable sentence.”

“Rand Paul does not know what he’s talking about,” said Republican Rep. Peter King of New York, the former chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee. “And, Rand Paul is really spreading fear among the American people. To me, he’s either totally uninformed or he’s part of that hate America crowd that I thought left us in the 1960s.”

The U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder stated in July the government would not seek the death penalty if Snowden is extradited. Federal prosecutors filed a criminal complaint against the former NSA and CIA analyst in June. He is charged with theft and two violations of the 1917 Espionage Act.

  1. Something I find amazing is that even Rand Paul’s watered down positions draw the absolute hatred from the neocons.

Despite my occasional disappointment, makes me think Rand Paul might actually be on our side.

I mean, if he wasn’t, would the neocons really hate him that much?

I’ve gone back and forth on this one a couple times, and I may well do so again. We shouldn’t put our hope in any politician. But if any viable candidate is going to be worthwhile this time around, its Rand Paul.

I really hope Rand is just playing politics here.

    • David,
      “A house divided cannot stand.”

When Christ cast out demons, some exclaimed he must be one of them. Remember the story?

Christ denied it, stating the above phrase.

Yet, the Devil’s greatest trick was making us think he didn’t exist…

Who says the house was divided?
Better to cast out Legion from one human, and gain the rest of time to plague each human individually….

Otherwise, you what – torture a soul here and there?
But hold humans to impossible laws (e.g., a man who lusts for a woman has already comitted adultery with her in his heart) – and make their SPIRITUAL HEADS gentle, forgiving gods…
But you cannot get to Heaven without them, either….

They would have us deny all that makes us human – not just the 7 deadly sins, nor even their lesser cousins, but ALL of humanity: Every lust, every vice, every picadillo we might even CONSIDER – is Verbotten.

HITLER was more humane, WHILE he ordered the extermination of the Jews. At least their suffering would end.
By definition, Christ [if this heretical line of thought is correct] is ALSO LUCIFER.
And if you poke into Job… Isn’t Satan also God’s son?

So, we’re damned and tortured if we try to obey God’s law; we’ll want food (gluttony), lust for the opposite sex, fornicate for fun, etc….
We are tortured on Earth for being human, and when we inevitably fall to these sins – we then are consigned to Hell.

I would know; I live it. Simple example, assuming you’re straight: Try to be attracted to Men for a week. Just TRY it.
See how messed up it feels.

Not my issue, exactly – but close enough. the FORCING is the key here: If you were smart as a child, or cute, or teacher’s pet, or unusual in any way – you learned to filter everything you said and did. Same sort of thing.
Some of us are created to live that life.

And just BEING is a sin.
      Merciful God my @$$.

Might as well expect truth from a politician.
