Hot damn! This guy is on to something:

The puzzled sad sack expressions on these heroes’ faces is priceless.

  1. This may be a good way to put these blatantly illegal roadblocks into drydock. If enough people start doing it, they won’t be worth their time. The same should be done with traffic tickets, make it so costly in time that it becomes a waste of time.

Since we won’t ever get relief from the courts.

Though they will try to put the kibosh on it for sure if it becomes wide spread enough.

  2. Raus Raus Juden Raus! You are in Leipzig, largest city of former East Germany.

If you haven’t visited Leipzig in a long time, you probably won’t recognize the amazing city it’s become. Dubbed “the city of music” Leipzig is no longer a dark and drab Eastern Bloc city. Leipzig is vibrant in every way, from the cafes and galleries to the beautiful parks and the clubs that keep you dancing until 4AM. Be sure to visit Leipzig soon – before it gets too popular with tourists!

    • Shit.

I just discovered there is a problem. If I manually type in “EPautos.com” my browser (Chrome) launches “ericpetersautos.com” and I see the old page; last updated about four days ago. But if I click on my bookmark or manually type “EPautos” into Google, I get taken to the current/updated site.

      FUCK!

Could be a cached domain name to IP address mapping. Rebooting the machine may help. Or, if the cache is at your Internet Service Provider (ISP), you can add a line to /etc/hosts (which you need to edit as root), e.g.

Believe it or not, that darn recent comments block (What’s Happening?) taxes our server more than anything else on the site! I’ve toyed with with number of comments displayed and character length cutoff etc.. The way it’s set right now is for 7 comments, 140 characters, and 30 character word wrap seems to be optimum. I had it at 10 comments displayed before and noticed longer page load speeds and massive server taxing.

Everything on this main page (not including the forum, or clovercam) is continually cached on the server for fast loads, but the recent comments block can’t be or the ones we’d see would be old. On a slam busy day we have 10,000 unique visits and each time someone visits or refreshes any page on this site that table and records are being called.

Sorry, more information than you probably wanted to know. Any page load time issues noticed on this site I’d say 90% of the time are because than darn comments block. We have the forum which is the ultimate kick ass software, but we haven’t figured out how to get people to use it. To be completely honest we’re at the point of needing to upgrade our server again. Don’t tell Eric! I understand and do agree that it’s getting extremely hard to keep up and have problems myself!

Know what? I just thought of something that I’m doing differently. I have the site setup to display cached pages to users that are not logged in. The only page that is always fresh is the home page. The rest are cached (older versions) of the page. Maybe try logging in and staying logged in when you browse/post on the site.

        – so, maybe turn machine off and on.(only if this is something you usually do without issue) then log into the site and verify you successfully logged in. that should stop your getting a cached(old version) page.

The What’s Happening comment block is working awesome, so that is a good sign

That thing seems to go down from time to time, at least for my browser.

          • Sorry, poor precision of language on my part.

I only meant turn whichever of your two computers off and on that is looking at a four day old static html page. Reboot your computer as per Bill’s advice.

Normally these should be nearly identical and to your live page

Those of us logged in get the very latest versions. But those not logged in shouldn’t be getting such old versions.

Garbage collection is the act of cleaning up cache files that are out of date and stale. There’s no correct value for the expiry time but a good starting point is 1800 seconds if you’re not using legacy mode. If you are using that mode start with an expiry time of 600 seconds.

This is the page that needs newer cache versions

            more info deluge

The WP super cache plugin generates static html files from your dynamic WordPress blog. After a html file is generated your webserver will serve that file instead of processing the comparatively heavier and more expensive WordPress PHP scripts.

The static html files will be served to the vast majority of your users, but because a user’s details are displayed in the comment form after they leave a comment those requests are handled by the legacy caching engine. Static files are served to:

Users who are not logged in.
Users who have not left a comment on your blog.
Or users who have not viewed a password protected post.

99% of your visitors will be served static html files. Those users who don’t see the static files will still benefit because they will see different cached files that aren’t quite as efficient but still better than uncached. This plugin will help your server cope with a front page appearance on reddit.com or other social networking site.

If for some reason “supercaching” doesn’t work on your server then don’t worry. Caching will still be performed, but every request will require loading the PHP engine. In normal circumstances this isn’t bad at all. Visitors to your site will notice no slowdown or difference. Supercache really comes into it’s own if your server is underpowered, or you’re experiencing heavy traffic. Super Cached html files will be served more quickly than PHP generated cached files but in every day use, the difference isn’t noticeable.

If you’re new to caching use PHP caching. It’s easy to set up and very fast. Avoid legacy caching if you can.

If you are not using legacy mode caching consider deleting the contents of the “Rejected User Agents” text box and allow search engines to create supercache static files.

Likewise, preload as many posts as you can and enable “Preload Mode”. Garbage collection will still occur but it won’t affect the preloaded files.

The changelog is a good place to start if you want to know what has changed since you last downloaded the plugin.

The cache directory, wp-content/cache/ is only for temporary files. Do not ever put important files or symlinks to important files or directories in that directory. They will be deleted if the plugin has write access to them.

      • eric, perhaps flushing your resolver cache might work. Click “start”, the “run” and type cmd. A black screen comes up with Documents and Settings and the computer name. Immediately after this type ipconfig(insert space)/flushdns then enter. This should flush the cache as it will show “Successfully flushed DNS resolver cache”.

        • How does the site work for you 8? Anything seem different. What problems have you had with the site in the past?

I don’t think anythings wrong wrong. Just some hiccups that might go away. Or they might linger and require some action.

          LibertarianWebGuy. com

Let time be your ally –

Probably the most important tip of all is to take your time with whatever you’re working on. A rushed job is much more likely to be a botched job. If you get hung up on something, stop – and think about it awhile. Have a beer. Do a search, or read the wordpress documentation – and if that doesn’t help, ask someone for help. Whatever you do, resist the temptation to forge ahead and “git r done” even when you don’t really know what you’re doing – or you’re mad.

The site works fine for me, really. It pretty much always had.

It’s your content and our responses to your content that is important here.

This isn’t some WorldOfWarcraft site situation where it makes all that much difference how fast and and how seemless everything is.

Maybe it’s a blessing that the site only performs optimally when you’re logged in. It’s in your best interests for people to set up an account and login. And at some point, chip in. Not just lurk and never contribute.

When you were seeing the old version of your site in the browser, didn’t that mean you weren’t logged in successfully. I would only worry if I saw an old version AND I was logged into the site.

          • Hi Tor,

I’m gonna check in with the company that we have our servers with; they have a pretty good tech support department. I’d call Dom – but feel weird about it. Hopefully I’ll be able to figure it out…

        • Hi Eight,

What you wrote – way over my head; like talking about stoichiometry to Clover!

I’m way out of my league on this…

          • ipconfig is the MS/DOS way of doing things for your local PC network settings. The command eight mentions clears out any locally remembered addresses for sites. That any relationships it has between IPs and domain/machine names in memory. This would force it to look it up from the domain name server (DNS) at the next reference. Even windows/dos has a static host file buried in it where one can type in host names and IP addresses. I use these on my local networks so I can refer to my machines by name. (I have a mixed network of various ancient hardware and OSes although most machines are turned off and disconnected most of the time)

Tor is talking about details that might make it so your site is less reachable when something goes wrong network wise such as a major hop going down someplace in the country.

Anyway I fully believe the problem you’re seeing is entirely local to your PCs. From everything I can tell your site is resolving and loading correctly. typed. history. whatever. epautos.com properly resolves to ericpetersautos.com. That’s the way it should be set up. All the names for a single site should resolve to one name. I cannot see a problem from here.

            • Thanks Brent.

I don’t know why it primes the pump for one guy to talk out of his ass a bit (which I do quite often) yet somehow it does bring out the guys who are in the know

I hope oooorgle chimes in more too

          • eric, it’s really easy to do and you can’t screw anything up if you get a character out of order. I left out hitting the enter button after typing cmd in the Run window. Once you do that then you get the actual black command window. Just try it and you’ll find it’s easy. If you get a character out of place, it will come up with the correct method of doing several things and clearing the resolver cache is just one of them. I wouldn’t suggest this if there was a risk other than just having to retype it.

Now if somebody could tell me how to replace my Java Runtime with something safe so I could view videos I’d be in bidness so to speak.

BTW, nothing wrong on this end at all I can tell.

              • He was talking about the PC. The command line interface aka DOS window. It’s microsoft’s half-assed way of doing things since they never developed a proper terminal set up.

Your mac is fairly modern so it will be running mac-ified NeXTSTEP aka OSX. Last I played with OSX it still had the NeXTSTEP terminal app, what eight is talking about is microsoft’s half-assed “equivalent” to that.

                • Yeesh!

I spoke with the company that maintains the EPautos.com servers. They told me:

“It looks like the difference is the www. https://www.ericpetersautos.com/ while http://ericpetersautos.com/ is current. I’d check with your web guy to make sure that they are both set up as the same site in cpanel (right now they seem to follow different criteria, but looking around I’m not sure how he has set it up to do this.”

If you or anyone out there understands what he means – and knows how to fix the problem – I’d really appreciate the assist!

                  • Both work properly for me. Both resolve to the same IP:

                    nslookup http://www.ericpetersautos.com
                    Non-authoritative answer:
                    Name: ericpetersautos.com
                    Address: 67.202.111.16
                    Aliases: http://www.ericpetersautos.com

                    nslookup ericpetersautos.com
                    Non-authoritative answer:
                    Name: ericpetersautos.com
                    Address: 67.202.111.16

So it has to be the set up of the webserver/wordpress somehow. The same thing that happened back with ericpetersautos and epautos. That’s the sort of thing that angers google’s robots because they interpret it as scamming for more traffic.

                    • Yeah… it’s all Greek to me, though… I don’t even know where to begin looking, let alone fixing!

                      Open call for help here….

                • BrentP, so Mac is called something else but you can clear the resolver cache easily enough can’t you? I gotta get a new computer but hate to buy a Mac, not just price-wise but having to deal with the wife’s “you bought this thing and now I don’t understand any of it”. I’d probably be in more trouble after I said ‘Yep, but you didn’t understand PC’s either”.

I’ve tried to get away from Mac, MS and Google but there’s nothing left for the most part. I figure they’re taking the ports off new computers to keep Linux users from booting from a CD although you can always download it.

I got bummed on computers back in the day of FORTRAN and punch cards and didn’t deal with one for nearly 20 years till IBM did the personal PC thing, almost as powerful as my old TI calculator.

                  • I’ve never run into such a thing on a unix system as resolver cache that would have to be cleared. I did a little searching and it’s a feature for a few unix variants, including solaris. The command to probe around in there is nscd

It’s one of those things that always worked with unix so I never noticed it was there.

  3. Interesting.

It is a shame that fear (sometimes justified) of harassment leads reasonable people to resort to these measures.

I also noted the video evidence of the encounter. (I wouldn’t be surprised if these people were streaming their video directly to the net)

    • Once the cops see you filming, they tend to think twice, especially with 3 guys rolling cams.

He’s got a point. Give them nothing but what they might have a duty (not a right) to ask for.

It amazes me how many people talk their way into jail. If you need to speak to them, ask questions you know they’ll lie to, then ask them if that was a lie. If “no” then ask if that was a lie also. Catch them lying on cam as much as possible, otherwise, state that you have the right to silence and you’re taking that option. It gives them nothing to go on.

The guy’s right though, just having your window slightly open is an invitation for their corruption. Just being on the road is too, but if everyone simply refuses to kowtow to these criminals and their bosses en-masse, their reign will be over.

    • These videos drive me up the wall. Not the guys in the car, who made the video. Good on them. But rather, the beady-eyed, buzzcut, clearly low IQ uniformed shitheads being video’d. Their haughty expressions; the glorying in their “authority.” I remember a time when such were seen in videos of other countries – East Germany, for instance.

Now, they are as “American” as apple pie.

      • Couldn’t have put it better myself Eric. The sheer arrogance, self-importance and assumed authority is palpable in their smug expressions. When they can’t beat common law using all their regulations, they resort to violence, which is why cameras are so useful.
