Well, it’s about a third of the way through the month and your hypertensive Libertarian car guy is beginning to stress because we’re still pretty deep in the red, pie chart-wise. We haven’t yet covered the servers – and forget the new computer (badly needed; the machine behind this site is the Macintosh equivalent of a very tired ’96 Taurus with 275,000 miles on the odometer, a cracked windshield and springs poking through the seat cushions). We desperately need your continued support to keep the plugs firing – and the Clovers aggravated.sheik pic

If only to spite them, you ought to support Epautos!

Or, support our advertisers.

If you need a radar detector, please consider a V1 (and click on the ad on the EPautos main page). Ditto for gold and silver coins. The Austin Coins folks are good folks – and what matters as much or more is their prices are fair and their products top-drawer.I would not recommend them (or the V1) if I couldn’t honestly say that about ’em.

Also:

I am hoping we can convince Amsoil to become an advertiser, too. I have been back-and-forthing with a rep there, trying to make the case. I’ve told him about our traffic, but what might seal the deal would be if a bunch of EPautos readers and regulars dropped him a line and told him how much they like Amsoil and that they’d probably buy some via EPautos, too. Drop a line in c/o Vic at honcho@enduranceoil.net

If we can secure another 3-4 regular advertisers (non-Googuhl) we’ll be tight.

Meanwhile, we’re depending on individual readers to carry us through the rough patch. Thanks, as always, to all of you!

Jail ‘anti-vax’ parents: Column by Alex Berezow

If you like second hand smoke criminalization. And blood stream pollution crimes. You’ll love this too.

Your family’s right to be sick ends where public health begins.

The entirely preventable California measles outbreak has now sickened more than 70 people. With perhaps hundreds more exposed, the outbreak will likely continue.

As the disease spreads, experts will debate how we respond and what to do about the anti-vaccine movement that’s partly to blame for this mess. Likely, all we’ll agree on is better outreach to parents.

That’s not enough. Parents who do not vaccinate their children should go to jail.

    USA TODAY
Anti-vaccine parents are boosting measles’ comeback:

In the year 2015, it is amazing that anyone in the United States contracts measles. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that the U.S. eliminated all native cases of measles in the year 2000. New cases generally occurred only among unvaccinated foreigners. Today, however, because of ignorant “anti-vaxxers,” the disease is staging a comeback.

Anti-vaxxers often claim the right not to put “poison” in their children’s bodies. That is ludicrous. A mountain of data has demonstrated that vaccines are safe and effective. Insisting otherwise is akin to believing that the moon landing was faked.

A more serious objection is that, like birth control, those with religious objections should be exempted. But, let’s remember that civil rights go both ways.

Prohibitionist John Finch once said, “Your right to swing your arm leaves off where my right not to have my nose struck begins.” For infectious disease, we could reformulate that to: “Your right to be sick ends where my right to be healthy begins.”

Measles is perhaps the most infectious human disease. Virus particles can remain in the air for up to two hours after an infected person leaves. And measles is not a minor infection. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that before widespread vaccination began in 1980, 2.6 million people a year died from measles. About 400 people a day still do.

Put simply, no person has the right to threaten the safety of his community. Like drunken drivers, the unvaccinated pose an imminent danger to others. They pose a lethal threat to the most vulnerable: the immunocompromised, such as HIV or cancer patients, and infants who have yet to receive their vaccines.

Anti-vaccine parents are turning their children into little walking time bombs. They ought to be charged for endangering their children and others.

Because humans are the only natural host for the virus, the WHO hopes to eradicate the disease from the planet, just like smallpox. This noble mission has been greatly complicated by such medical luminaries as Bill Maher and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who have spread anti-vaccine propaganda to millions. They have blood on their hands.

It is time to end this insanity. Though jail sounds drastic, it could be the only way to send a strong message about the deadly consequences of failing to vaccinate children.

    Uh oh, saaaaaafety!

    – I could just call them all fags and cunts ad nauseum because it feels good. But something tells me, this is something that’s going to require a more coherent and scientific response.

  2. OK, just I clicked on your Valentine One ad here and ordered a new V-1.

Here’s a very extended road test report on the first V-1 I purchased in 1997.

Worked perfectly until 2007, at which time the rear and side warning arrows stopped displaying. Front arrow continued to light, and it still detected as well as ever. So it only took a bit of deductive logic to guess the direction of the bogie when the audio alert sounded but the front arrow didn’t light.

Tonight, after “only” 17 years, looks like it is failing. Goes through the display and audio start up sequence, but then dies every time. Pretty sure it’s not the power cord.

Considering that it has not been treated gently, and has been exposed to Az summer heat for 17 years, that is pretty good longevity. Didn’t seriously consider the other major brand before ordering another V-1.

Great quality and user friendliness. But it is the arrows that place it ahead of all others.

    • Excellent, Mike!

I’ve put mine through Hell and back, too. No problems yet. But when the time comes, I will be ordering another V1.

      • all the mike’s are blending together.
        maybe I need a vacation.
maybe I’m the statist, a useful idiot hoping to bring all existing authorities down.
        succeeding even.
and then, the real authoritarians lying in wait emerge from the bowels of the earth, and a new age of super tyranny descends on me that makes today’s problems look like nothing.

that’s what’s great about typing symbols on the internet. it’s all just theoretical and nothing has really happened. i wish you all the best, and I hope we’re all following our own paths to wherever we want to go.

heck maybe I could even learn to like Lee Greenwood and so called New Country.

Lee sure doesn’t look the way I remember, but I’ll gladly stand up next to him and defend him here today. For there ain’t no doubt I love this land, GOD BLESS THE USAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

  3. They are getting it exactly wrong.

You don’t want testimonials from long time buyers about a website. You want evidence of new potential buyers who have not bought the product yet.

Advertizement is about getting new customers. Reminding old customers to keep buying is secondary. There is a reason the apple logo on a Mac laptop is upside-down to the user, but right side up to people looking at the user with the laptop open.

    • Hi Swamp,

Their prices – including shipping – are actually very close to what you’d pay for the same amount of, say, Mobil 1 or Royal Purple…

  4. I’m open to using Amsoil, but I never really consider it because I don’t normally remember it when it’s time for an oil change. Perhaps if I saw an ad once in a while…

I’m completely serious when I say that.

  5. Email sent.

I’ve been using Amsoil’s products for years now so I would love to see them advertise on here as both are products I value deeply.
