Innocent Man “Swatted” to Death by Kansas heroes…

A prank call to “heroes” has resulted in an innocent man’s death at a home in Wichita, Kansas.

Andrew Finch, 28, was shot and killed Thursday after police responded to an anonymous call about a shooting involving hostages.

The caller claimed someone had an argument with their mother; that the woman’s husband was accidentally shot; and that a brother, a sister and the mother were being held hostage, according to head Wichita “hero” Troy Livingston

“We learned through that call that the father was deceased, shot in the head. So that’s the information we were working off of,” Livingston said. “Our officers came here preparing for a hostage situation. Several got in position. A male came to the front door, and one of our officers discharged his weapon.

Note that the anonymous caller’s assertions were taken as verbatim truth – “we learned through the call that the father was deceased ” a statement of fact that was anything but – and no effort was made to verify the actual truth.

Instead, the “heroes” effectively judged-and-juried and carried out sentence. The baffled – and entirely innocent of any crime deceased victim – probably never knew what hit him.

The “heroes” claim they shot Finch – a “hero” “discharged his weapon” –  after they say he moved his hands to his waistline. Naturally, the “hero” who “discharged his weapon” – the clinical language is revelatory –  “feared for his safety.”

Which made Finch’s life forfeit. Which makes any of our lives forfeit.

This is the state of things in America, the “post-911 reality” – as the “heroes” and their apologists themselves describe it. That reality being ordinary people must live in abject terror of the government, accepting outright murder for the sake of can’t be-too-careful.

Livingston admitted Finch was not armed. But the most maddening thing is that Finch was in his own home, minding his own business.

There was no evidence of anything amiss; no shouting, no signs of an actual disturbance. All of this was triggered  by an anonymous phone call. On the basis of that alone, a gang of screaming, hut-hutting “heroes” fingering assault rifles – the real thing, capable of fully automatic fire – assaults Finch’s home. He is startled by the sudden ruckus and wonders what is going on and why; perhaps is not immediately supine and compliant. After all, he hasn’t done anything and is in his own home. He may have been irritated by the intrusion.

He moves his hands ever so slightly.

And so is made dead.

“Three or four people from the home were taken to be interviewed,” according to news reports. No one was found dead at the home – other than Finch, of course.

Livingston called the shooting “tragic and senseless.”

Which it was, but not in the way Livingston means.

“senseless and tragic,” all right…

“The irresponsible actions of a prankster (italics added) put people’s lives at risk,” he said Friday. “The incident is a nightmare for everyone involved, including the family and our police department. Due to the actions of a prankster, we have an innocent victim. If the false police call had not been made, we would not have been there.”

A prankster?

What about the “irresponsible actions” of the “heroes”?

Who stormed an innocent man’s house and shot him dead in front of his family on the basis of a prank call – without even a cursory attempt at fact-checking the situation, something even hack reporters usually at least go through the motions of doing? And hack reporters can only murder the truth – while armed government workers – “heroes” – murder flesh and blood human beings.

And get away with it.

Will the “heroes” who murdered Finch be charged with any crime, even reckless endangerment? Of course not. The armed government worker who murdered Finch has been placed on paid administrative leave. Having murdered one taxpayer, he is now paid by other taxpayers to go home and watch TV while the “investigation” proceeds. It is extremely unlikely he or any of his fellow”heroes” will be charged with any crime.

If Finch’s family successfully sues over this extremely wrongful death, it will be the taxpayers who pay – not the “heroes” who did the death-dealing.

And who, accordingly, will continue to deal death while uluating that they “feared for their safety.”

The fact that a man can be shot to death over an anonymous call ought to outrage Americans. But most Americans have become inured to such atrocities by the “post-911 reality.” Official barbarism is now par for the course – the new routine. It reaches to the highest levels – the president of the United States speaks like a street corner thug, braggadociously. That having been normalized by the thug from Texas who preceded him and who, more than any other single individual, created “the post 911 reality.”

It now trickles down to every street corner in the country, like a raw sewage tsunami.

And it will stop only when people demand that it be stopped. When “heroes” who murder innocent people on the basis of anonymous calls are treated as murderers. When armed government workers who murder people while claiming they “feared for their safety” are no longer thought of as “heroes.”

Which doesn’t look like it’ll be anytime soon.

  1. The cure for evil and disorder is more liberty, not suppression.

Would everyone start driving like maniacs if seatbelt laws were repealed?

Would gas stations catch on fire if people were allowed to pump their own gas?

Would everyone use crack cocaine if drugs were legal?

Would everybody get cancer if smoking was legal?

Would the economy get worse if everyone was allowed to start a business?

Americans are so enslaved now that they would think society would fall apart if people were allowed to feed the homeless.

  2. Police: root word ‘policy’

So they are REALLY ‘policy enforcers’ for the municipality that pays them to be theri ‘Tax Collectors with Guns and Badges’, they are NOT your savior, hero, friend… they are trained to lie & get you to incriminate yourself so they can extract $$ from you by force.

only thing you should ever say to them: “Am I being detained?’ and “Am I free to go” ..everything else WILL be used against you.

  3. FYI
Swatting is a common practice on video game streams that are live.
Viewers find out the IP and address of well known and prominent video game personalities and then when they are live streaming on their blog they call in a swat just like this case.
    Look it up.

  4. They killed the boy and then stole a bunch goodies –

[mom’s]Her letter also posed numerous questions, including asking when officials will return the front door, a computer, two cellphones, a video game and other items that were seized from the family’s home. The family also wants information on the protocol and training for officers as it relates to “swatting” calls.

  5. This insanity will never end until police officers are held legally and financially personally responsible for their actions – just like us useless eaters and tax cattle are. And fat chance that will ever happen.

    • So true Kitty,

The problem being of course the “Myth of Authority”, the mass delusion that a collection of people have right to do things individuals do not, and that the “representatives” of the collective are “higher” in status than the rest of us.

    • The Constitutions (state and national) already provide for a remedy for public servants who violate their oath. Firstly, all public servants must take an oath to uphold the Constitution and also must have on record a bond. When they violate their oath, their bond is to provide compensation for the party injured. They can and should be charged personally. They are entirely responsible, not the citizens, for picking up the tab. No one is above the law, which is the basis for our Constitutional Republic.

Also, anytime public servants violate Rights guaranteed to Citizens in the Constitutions, they act outside the scope of their limited delegated duties and authority, thus, by their own actions, invoke the self-executing Sections 3 and 4 of the 14th Amendment; thereby vacate their offices and forfeit all benefits thereof, including salaries and pensions.

The question is, who will see that our Constitution is enforced? It is the people who are totally responsible for the demise of our Republic, in their failure to fulfill their duties and responsibilities by holding their public servants to their oaths. This was foreseen by our founders, but they risked their lives to give the peasants an opportunity to have freedom rather than servitude anyway. Unfortunately, 200 years is not long enough for peasants to change and they choose again, and again, to abdicate their responsibilities which are gladly received by those who like to rule over others. There can be no perpetrators without willing victims.

  6. He moved his hand shouldn’t be justification for firing a gun. We must change the fact that it is now accepted that police are justified in shooting because “he moved his hand.” That isn’t justification for a civilian to shoot someone and it shouldn’t be justification for the police to shoot someone.

    • Hi Krista,

      Absolutely.

In my state, I am legally obligated to retreat if confronted with a violent threat before I may resort to lethal force – and resorting to lethal force is only permissible if one can prove an imminent lethal threat. The threat, in other words must be actual. Not “I feared for my safety.”

If I – a concealed handgun permit holder – shot someone absent a provable lethal threat and an attempt by me to retreat… and whined that I “feared for my safety,” I’d be looking at hard time in prison – period.

Why do we tolerate less from (cough) “heroes”?

      • We have lost the fundamental idea that we cannot legitimately give to authorities powers which we, the people, do not possess. So if we don’t have the right to steal from our neighbor, we cannot rightfully give the ability to steal at will to authority figures. Police should follow the same rules that govern the people. The requirement to retreat should probably not be required of any civilian – and obviously stand your ground laws address that in some states – and the police also should not be required to retreat. But they should have to know that there is a weapon about to be used against them (or have it be reasonable to believe such).

The police are supposed to be our security force. When Beyonce hires a security force to keep her safe, she doesn’t fear that they will shoot her if she “moves her hand.” But we hire police officers with our tax dollars and they will kill an innocent man if he moves his hand toward his waistband. Never mind that his shorts may have been falling down and he was just reaching to pull them up. Something is really really amiss. First they steal your tax dollars – and if you don’t fork it over, you will be put in a prison – and then they use those tax dollars to hire “your” security force which will shoot you if you move your hand. And people are putting up with this?

        • “When Beyonce hires a security force to keep her safe, she doesn’t fear that they will shoot her if she “moves her hand.” But we hire police officers with our tax dollars and they will kill an innocent man if he moves his hand toward his waistband.”

          That was very profound.

        • Dear Krista,

          So well said.

Governments cannot exist unless they first commit two crimes, intimidation and extortion.

Intimidation is threatening someone with physical harm or physical confinement unless he obeys your commands. Governments refer to their intimidation as “law enforcement”.

Extortion is demanding payment for unsolicited “protection” from real or hypothetical threats from other parties. Governments refer to their extortion as “taxation”.

The problem with government is that it cannot avoid being anything other than the very evil it promises to protect us from. https://anenemyofthestate.wordpress.com/quotations-from-chairman-zhu/

The problem is not that governments violate human rights. The problem is that government itself is a violation of human rights. https://anenemyofthestate.wordpress.com/quotations-from-chairman-zhu/

          • The only problem with your comment, Bevin, is that not all governments are the same. In a Republic, your premise is completely false. It only applies to a communist dictatorship.

Here is an article about the constitutionality of the police.
            http://www.constitution.org/lrev/roots/cops.htm

Perhaps you should visit Joe Bannister’s website and learn the truth about taxation as well.
The reason America is no longer functioning as a Constitutional Republic, and has descended into the evils of communism, is due to the ignorance, apathy, and stupidity of the people. it is the people who choose evil and practice this against each other every day.

            • That’s much like the argument, “but that’s not real communism”. Even if we ignore that the USA was meant to largely become what we have today when the USC was adopted it thanks to the weasel words, it is the nature of a republic to evolve/decline into this condition. It’s human nature, the same reason communism doesn’t work.

Communism lacks many of the safe guards that are put into republics but that only relates to the speed of failure.

The problem is of course some men ruling over others. Be it an elected representative with 50% +1 of the vote or something else. So long as some rule others the natural tendency of man makes this end only a matter of time.

            • Hi Sovereign,

I used to share your view but no longer. Per Brent’s excellent summation, the system we have is what was intended: a centralized authoritarian government; individual rights become conditional privileges, subject to modification by “the people” – i.e,. by a politician who claims legitimacy to represent these “people” via a vote of some of them, in whatever percentage.

You either have a right that is bound to be respected – morally as well as legally – or you do not.

Theft is theft, period. Calling legalized theft “taxes” doesn’t change the nature of the thing. One person’s property is taken by force by others.

Your physical body is your exclusive property – or it’s not. If it is, you a free man. If it is not, you are a slave, the degree of your slavery being morally immaterial.

The only moral (and so, rightfully lawful) basis for interfering with any free man is tangible harm caused to the person or property of another free man. Period.

Moral human interqctions are voluntary – the concept of free association. When a man is forced to interact with other men in any way whatsoever, he is no longer a free man.

These are radical concepts – concepts much closer to the ones espoused in Jefferson’s Declaration and far from those espoused by the federal Constitution, which was written by men like Hamilton – who desired exactly what we are suffering under today, ruled by people of his caste. Hamilton was the George Bush/Mitt Romney/John McCain of his era.

              • Hi Eric, actually you didn’t used to share my views, and you couldn’t possibly know what those are, or you would understand that the very things you stated are important are actually inherent rights that are supposed to be protected and are guaranteed in the Constitution as a mandate to the “creature” or servant of the people; ie government. Perhaps the following will make this more clear.

As Jefferson said, “The two enemies of the people are criminals and government,
so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution
so the second will not become the legalized version of the first.”

“The laws of nature are the laws of God, whose authority can be superseded by no power on earth. A legislature must not obstruct our obedience to him from whose punishments they cannot protect us. All human constitutions which contradict his cannot protect us. All human constitutions which contradict his (God’s) laws, we are in conscience bound to disobey.” 1772, Robin v. Hardaway, 1 Jefferson 109.

“The rights of the individual are not derived from governmental agencies, either municipal, state, or federal, or even from the Constitution. They exist inherently in every man, by endowment of the Creator, and are merely reaffirmed in the Constitution, and restricted only to the extent that they have been voluntarily surrendered by the citizenship to the agencies of government. The people’s rights are not derived from the government, but the government’s authority comes from the people. The Constitution but states again these rights already existing, and when legislative encroachment by the nation, state, or municipality invade these original and permanent rights, it is the duty of the courts to so declare, and to afford the necessary relief. City of Dallas, et al. v. Mitchell, 245 S. W. 944, 945-46 (1922).

Your complaints really do not lie with the government, they are really about the people, who are supposed to be the rulers of our country, and their failures. How can you blame a servant for the faults of the master? Ron Paul, who should have been president, but the idiot masses rejected him, said” If the people are unhappy with the government performance it must be recognized that government is merely a reflection of an immoral society that rejected a moral government of constitutional limitations of power and love of freedom.”

Because of the many false premises of many on this blog, and the overall ignorance and lack of intelligent informed action by the peasants, our inherent rights are not being protected, for no one is aware they have inherent rights nor do they have enough self respect or respect for others to insist they be honored.

Because of the failures of the people, our current unlawful, unconstitutional, despotic government has taken the place of our original Republic, which was intended to give the peasants an opportunity to be free and responsible. The people do not want freedom, even though they say they do, they would rather blame and point fingers than get out there and take action and be free.
It appears the height of our short history in American society was the days of little house on the prairie, people were free and responsible then, things have continued to go downhill due to the nanny/police state so loved by the masses.

Hamilton had his own ideas, as well as the other founders, but the bottom line is the people were given the means to rule themselves, and that still exists today, but too many just go along and do not challenge what is unlawful. Anyone who is participating in the myriad racketeering schemes of the criminal cabal that currently runs things is complicit in the downfall of our nation, themselves, and the world.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, so long as they uphold the Supreme Law of the Land and respect others. Hamilton had reasons to believe what he believed. Can you honestly say that peasants who have a slave mentality could ever be sovereign and free? Do they even deserve to be free? You can not make someone choose freedom, or be responsible. The people have shown they will not be responsible and have demanded the police/nanny state and enjoy hurting their own neighbors, and family, proving the “elites” right over and over again for their disdain.

The education system, an extension of the authoritarian upbringing of most households is the root of the sickness that grips the human species. Look no further than the living room to see where the ideas of master and slave and blind obedience come from. Very few who are punished and threatened as a child for asking questions, or for choosing to practice freedom and responsible and cultivate self discipline, which can only come from within, and develop the only kind of discipline there is, which is self discipline, will ever be able to fulfill the duties and responsibilities a Republic requires.

Why is anyone surprised at the idiotic millennials when their parents and society completely failed them and taught them to be as stupid as they are?
This should be a giant wake up call for all to embrace natural parenting, or attachment parenting and demand the unlawful public fool system be done away with. Anyone who cant or wont be responsible for their own children, and would rather give them to the state to raise has succeeded in placing the nails in their own coffins.
Public school, a tenant of the communist manifesto, has been accepted by the masses as an entitlement and something they wouldn’t consider doing without. This lack of commitment is not what is going to produce an optimal higher being. We will get exactly what we see today; pathetic excuses for humans who are indoctrinated as slaves by their own parents.
This world is a gift, and should be treated as such. things can only change if one is willing to look at oneself and make the improvements necessary to honor all life. This includes taking action and helping others. Solutions not excuses creates a better world. I was under the impression that the libertarian philosophy was solution oriented, and not solely focused on being against things, which can never create change.

Communism and collectivism are thriving, and the next stop is the singularity. Ray Kurzweil and others have plans, and this includes the extinction of the human species as we know it. You can do the research on this. Will the people refuse to be chipped? Will the Christians finally actually follow Jesus’ teachings and refuse to participate in usury, which has led to economic ruin for all and provides the means to enslave the world?

Our very lives and our souls are in grave danger, and it is very sad to see so much pettiness, ego and not enough imagination, honor and courage to inspire humans to aspire to actually living in a higher way.
This is the bigger picture that is hidden by all the silly distraction the media uses to steal the attention, energy and life force of humans so they have nothing left to actually do anything worthwhile.
It really doesn’t make sense for you or anyone else to argue with me when you can clearly see in black and white in the constitution and a plethora of court cases that nowhere does it state rights can be converted to privileges, even though they have been, due to the IGNORANCE AND APATHY OF THE PEOPLE.

When you properly use the Constitution you prevail over the state, but people would rather complain and believe things that are not true, than actually do the hard work involved to do so.
Here are a few more quotes which show the true intent of many of our founders, not a theory which is not based in facts and evidence.
Again, it makes no sense to me why so many want to argue with those who agree with them.

No state shall convert a liberty into a privilege, license it, and attach a fee to it. Murdock v. Penn., 319 U.S. 105 (1943).

If the state converts a liberty into a privilege, the citizen can engage in the right with impunity. Shuttlesworth v. Birmingham, 373 U.S. 262 (1969).).

“Where rights secured by the Constitution are involved, there can be no rule making or legislation, which would abrogate them.” Miranda v. Arizona, 384 U.S. 436, 491 (1966).

“An unconstitutional act is not law; it confers no rights; it imposes no duties; affords no protection; it creates no office; it is in legal contemplation, as inoperative as though it had never been passed.” Norton v. Shelby County, 118 U.S. 425, 442 (1886).

                “The claim and exercise of a constitutional right cannot be converted into a crime.” Miller v. U.S., 230 F.2d 486, 490 (1956).

United States Supreme Court Justice Brown, Hale v. Hankel, 201 U.S. 43 at 74 (1905):
“The individual may stand upon his constitutional rights as a citizen. He is entitled to carry on his private business in his own way.His power to contract is unlimited. He owes no duty to the State or to his neighbors to divulge his business, or to open his door to an investigation. He owes nothing to the State since he receives nothing therefrom beyond mere protection of life and property. His rights are such as existed by the law of the land long antecedent to the organization of the State. . . He owes nothing to the public so long as he does not trespass upon their rights.”

Justice William O Douglas reminded us again in 1972 of a basic truth the masses continue to ignore.

“Since when have we Americans been expected to bow submissively to authority and speak with awe and reverence to those who represent us? The constitutional theory is that we the people are the sovereigns, the state and federal officials only our agents. We who have the final word can speak softly or angrily. We can seek to challenge and annoy, as we need not stay docile and quiet.

We must hold our heads up high and not allow this obamanation, all of these crimes against humanity and nature stand that you blog about. All I am saying is there is a solution, and it can be done. Where there is a will, there is a way. We must remember and hold sacred the nobility of the human spirit, and All That Is.

      • They(lege)passed a “stand your ground” law in Tx. Whether it works or not is another question. I doubt shooting a “hero” to save your own life is going to be a legal reason anywhere. After all, we know who the heroes are here to protect. It wasn’t always so and the country has become a fascist state since I grew up. I got to watch it happen and voice my dissent daily but I was overcome by Hollywood(one of its staunchest supporters)and the rest of the communist Jews who committed this change on this country. It was easy for those committing the change to get the Jewish support by just mentioning Russia. Funny how it didn’t work so well in Israel……or did it?

    • Exactly. These cases are infuriating, not least because so many cops are worthless cowards who kill first and ask questions later. An excellent site recently revealed to me has a worthy article on cops killing people and how they put their little candy-asses ahead of the people they’re supposed to protect. https://westernrifleshooters.wordpress.com/2018/01/03/a-response-to-officer-safety/ct. The cop just let off in the Mesa, Arizona shooting of the kid in the hallway is a prime example of cop cowardice.

      • Hi Ross,

I’ve come to the conclusion that, in addition to being cowards, many are outright psychopaths looking for an opportunity – an excuse – to murder someone. That cop in Mesa is an obvious case in point. He was itching to pull the tigger. When that poor kid tried to pull up his pants, he gave the psycho the excuse he had been waiting for to murder him.

        And there is no justice.

It is going to get very ugly.

        • Dear Eric,

          Dead on.

Daniel Shaver may have had a few drinks in him when he was ordered out of his Arizona hotel room at gunpoint by a group of six screaming police officers last January.

The Mesa police officers were barking all kinds of orders; each one with a different demand, telling him to get down on his hands and knees and crawl towards them, to place his hands over his head, to sit on the floor and cross his legs in front of him.

The traveling businessman was trying to comply, but he was confused by their contradictory demands. The fact that he had been drinking with friends that evening did not help.

“Please don’t shoot me,” Shaver reportedly pleaded as he lifted his hands up, then down again.

But then one cop did, shooting him five times with an AR-15 rifle inscribed with the words “You’re Fucked.”

It was Philip “Mitch” Braisford’s personal gun, which he had personally inscribed, and it offered a glimpse into his personality.

          https://photographyisnotacrime.com/2016/03/arizona-cop-killed-man-with-ar-15-rifle-inscribed-with-the-words-youre-fucked-as-man-pleaded-for-his-life/

  7. As you have mentioned before, Eric, about twisting the throttle and making a run for it, when the rollers light you up, more and more, these sort of events are going to result in LESS cop safety.

Just today, cops stormed a home in Colorado on a “domestic disturbance” call and five of them got shot, one fatally, by a man who most likely figured he had nothing left to lose and was waiting for them.

    http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/12/31/colorado-police-working-officer-down-situation-outside-denver.html

      • Yup, exactly.

And that in turn will just lead to more cops hut hutting about on hair triggers, blowing away some more of us hapless Mundanes (RIP Will Grigg) if we so much as cut a loud fart around them.

        War on Us.

      • People aren’t mad enough, and never will be very likely with all the drugs in the food supply and schools….but if it ever happens, those overgrown steroid yahoos mean shit to me. A quote about Samuel Colt goes something like God made men and Colt made them equal.

I would be in a bad stead taking on one of these goons in a physical fight….for the most part. I learned at a young age that camouflage was as simple as not moving. My vision is still good, my hand is steady and my aim is true.

  8. Cops are going to put hitmen out of business. Need someone killed in 2018? Go to your nearest payphone and make an anonymous ‘tip’ that there’s a hostage situation, DV, potential homicide, etc. taking place, and you can guarantee the cops will kill any and all people on the premise, no questions asked. They’ll even do the cleanup and coverup for you! Save the time, hassle and $20,000. Let your local police force “protect and serve” you for free! And please, leave them a good Yelp review for repeat business.

If there was any justice, all three players in this shitshow would rot for life. Sadly, only the “civilians” will see any time.

  9. What really bothers me about this incident, other than the fact that an innocent man was killed by the police, is the use of passive language, once again.

Ever notice how police use passive language all the time?

Cops never say, “Lie on the ground or I’ll arrest you.” It’s always “get on the ground or YOU’LL BE ARRESTED.”

As if the actions of the officer are a blameless, inevitable act of nature, instead of the conscious, deliberate actions of a human being with free will.

According to official police language, a human being choosing to enforce a law is no more an act of free will than a wrench falling to the garage floor if I drop it.

He’s “just doing his job,” “doesn’t have a choice.”

Really, no choice? No way to keep from violating his conscience? Can’t go get another job, can’t look the other way…

In a way, the continual use of passive language is worse than the death of a single innocent man, because it’s meant to condition society to the idea that police are mindless extensions of the state doing a job, as opposed to individuals with free will making a choice to brutalize or kill their fellow citizens over – for the most part – technicalities and trivialities, and that said individuals bear no personal responsibility for their choices – responsibility they willingly impose on the rest of us.

    • That language is a good point. It’s always they are just doing their job. Under technocracy we are all nothing more than meat robots. It designs people to be managed and to follow orders.

    • You definitely have a point, Ice Age.

Passive voice disassociates the perpetrator “perp” from the act.

      “Mistakes were made.”

      “The window got broken.”

I did a Power Point presentation on it years ago at a trade promotion organization I worked at briefly, showing how passive voice is the preferred language of bureaucrats because it enables them to shirk responsibility.

  10. For years the idea of “suicide by cop” has been an accepted concept. It’s been used as cover for trigger happy GovCo thugs. The ultimate “blame the victim”.

However, it says far more about the cops, their mindset and procedures than it says about the people they slaughter. The sheeple casually throw around the phrase, it lets them sleep well…for now. America will get what it deserves…good and hard.

I bet Hitler, Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot are kicking themselves in Hell over the fact that THEY never thought of it.

    • There was a case where a cop was talking someone down from suicide by cop. Then his coworkers arrived, killed the man, and the first cop was fired endangering his coworkers.

  11. Here I go again…sorry to those who have seen my rant before, but, I feel it is important…
If anything, police should be held to a higher standard than that of the public…As it stands now, police can commit crimes with impunity because, in most situations, they investigate themselves…Behavior that would get an ordinary citizen charged, convicted and incarcerated is routinely ignored by “the powers that be” because police are considered to be “above the law” as the “law” is whatever they say it is, the Constitution be damned…
Police officers are the only group that can murder someone by falsely claiming that “they feared for their lives”, have 48 to 72 hours to “get their stories straight”, and have a union lawyer and compliant prosecutor-steered “grand jury” absolve them of responsibility.
Police demand immediate compliance (Israeli-style)–with two or three cops issuing and yelling out conflicting commands, it is easy to see how a person under police control could lose his life for merely attempting to follow conflicting directions.
Ever notice that police unions are “fraternal”? This should tell you something. The “thin-blue-line” is a gang, little different than street gangs–at least when it comes to “covering-up” their questionable and quite often, illegal and criminal behavior.
In today’s day and age, “officer safety” trumps de-escalation of force. This, in part, is due to the militarization of the police along with training in Israeli police tactics. This becomes a problem, with the “us vs. them” attitude that is fosters, along with the fact that Israel is a very different place, being on a constant “war footing”, its police tactics are very different.
There are too many instances of police being “given a pass”, even when incontrovertible video and audio evidence is presented. Grand juries, guided by police-friendly prosecutors, quite often refuse to charge those police officers who abuse their authority.
Police officers, who want to do the right thing, are quite often marginalized and put into harms way, by their own brethren…When a police officer is beating on someone that is already restrained while yelling, “stop resisting” THAT is but one reason police have a “bad name” in many instances…this makes the “good cops” who are standing around, witnessing their “brethren in blue” beating on a restrained suspect, culpable as well…
Here are changes that can help reduce police-induced violence:
    1. Get rid of police unions. Police unions (fraternities) protect the guilty, and are responsible for the massive whitewashing of questionable police behavior that is presently being committed.
    2. Eliminate both “absolute” and “qualified” immunity for all public officials. This includes, prosecutors and judges, police and firefighters, code enforcement and child protective services officials, and others who deal with the citizenry. The threat of being sued personally would encourage them to behave themselves. Require police officers to be “bonded” by an insurance company, with their own funds. No bond= no job. You can bet that insurance companies would be more diligent in weeding out the “bad apples” than our present system…
    3. Any public funds disbursed to citizens as a result of police misconduct should come out of police pension funds–NOT from the taxpayers.
    4. Regular drug-testing of police officers as well as incident-based drug testing should take place whenever an officer is involved in a violent situation with a citizen–no exceptions.
    5. Testing for steroid use should be a part of the drug testing program. You know damn well, many police officers “bulk up” with the “help” of steroids. Steroids also affect users mentally as well, making them more aggressive. The potential for abuse of citizens increases greatly with steroid use.
    6. Internal affairs should only be used for disagreements between individual officers–NOT for investigations involving citizen abuse. State-level investigations should be mandatory for all suspected abuses involving citizens.
    7. Prosecutors should be charged with malfeasance IF any evidence implicating police officer misconduct is not presented to the grand jury.
    8. A national or state-by-state database of abusive individuals who should NEVER be allowed to perform police work should be established–a “blacklist” of abusive (former) police officers.
    9. Most people are unaware that police have special “rules” that prohibit them from being questioned from 48 to 72 hours. This allows them to “get their stories straight” and makes it easier to “cover up” bad police behavior. Police must be subject to the same laws as civilians.
    10. All police should be required to wear bodycams and utilize dashcams that cannot be turned off. Any police officers who causes a dash or body cam to be turned off should be summarily fired–no excuses. Today’s body and dash cams are reliable enough to withstand harsh treatment. Body and dashcam footage should be uploaded to a public channel “on the cloud” for public perusal.
    11. All interrogations must be video and audio recorded. Police should be prohibited from lying or fabricating stories in order to get suspects to confess. False confessions ARE a problem in many departments. Unknown to most people, police can lie with impunity while civilians can be charged with lying to police…fair? I think not…
    12. Any legislation passed that restricts the rights of ordinary citizens, such as firearms magazine capacity limits, types of weapons allowed, or restrictive concealed-carry laws should apply equally to police. No special exemptions to be given to police. Laws must be equally applied.
13 “Asset forfeiture” is a form of “legalized robbery under color of law” and must be abolished. We must return to Constitutional principles when it comes to “crimefighting”. The so-called “war on drugs” is actually a “war on the citizenry” and has had an extremely corrosive effect on the Constitutional principles that our country is (supposed to be) founded on.
    14. “No-knock” raids must be abolished as they put both police and (especially citizens) in harms way. Even the Nazis “knocked on the door” before gaining entry.
    15. SWAT teams must be reigned in on their “dynamic entry techniques”. Utilizing SWAT teams for routine situations is dangerous to both police and citizens. Smashing everything in sight “just because they can”, blaming it on an “adrenaline rush” must end. There is NEVER a reason for destroying property.
    16. The “21 foot rule” must be modified or abolished. American police training assumes that ANYONE that gets within 21 feet of a police officer and is deemed a threat, even a non-life-threatening situation is “fair game” for the use of lethal force. Persons with rakes, sticks, knives, or even their fists have been executed, even when non-lethal means would have been more appropriate. Police hide behind the “21 foot rule” in order to justify questionable police shootings. Their “excuse”, when brought before a prosecutor or grand jury is “that is the way they are trained”. THAT has to change. Police have a greater responsibility NOT to use deadly force against those that they could easily subdue by other means.
Police work is not inherently dangerous…there are many other professions that are much more dangerous.
A little “Andy Taylor” could go a long way in allaying fears that citizens have of police.

    • You forgot one, perhaps the most important one:

17: Never give a badge to a veteran.

Soldiers and police properly have completely different mindsets, and even honorable and decorated military service should be a lifetime bar to employment as a police officer.

Soldiers are trained to yell and scream, to follow orders immediately and without question, to never contemplate the rightness or wrongness of those orders and ultimately to regard anyone who is not dressed like themselves as the enemy.

This is not a healthy mindset for police, who are supposed to be peace officers, not an occupying army.

Most of the problem with this soldier mindset is that it never completely fades away, “Once a Marine, always a Marine” describing the condition pretty well.

      • As a veteran myself, I tend to agree with you, up to a point. Extensive “reprogramming” should be required before any military veteran assumes the duties of a police officer. However, I do not agree on a lifetime ban. In fact, us veterans are likely to be less “junpy” and more calm due to the extensive “rules of engagement” that we had to operate under. The “rules of engagement” in combat zones are MORE restrictive than that which American “law enforcement” operates under. In fact, it appears that American “law enforcement” does not operate under ANY “rules of engagement”. THAT has to change…
Maybe it’s time to establish “rules of engagement” for police officers…

        • I was in the Army myself, and I’ve heard it said that prison is a more welcoming environment for new people. And you’re right – veterans can have a higher tolerance for confrontation and risk than civilians, especially novice officers who haven’t been in too many “situations.”

But I’m not criticizing veterans, I’m calling attention to the differences in the correct mentality for soldiers vs. for police officers. The mindset of a soldier, sailor, airman or Marine is rightly different than that of a cop.

Sidebar – I’ve always wondered about two things:

1 – Mankind has spent thousands of years developing and perfecting methods of psychologically changing civilians into soldiers, but virtually no effort on reversing the process upon discharge.

2 – Soldiers and police use weapons, wear uniforms and obey a chain of command, but that’s where the similarity stops. Properly, a soldier should be ready, willing & able to kill at a moment’s notice, but that mindset can slam open the throttle on a confrontation in a heartbeat where civilians are concerned.

I think you’re correct about rules of engagement for police.

  12. Notice how the media blame the “prankster” for this persons death, not the “hero” who actually murdered him; said “hero” is now on administrative leave, aka paid vacation, and will ultimately be exonerated because he “feared for his safety”. Maybe they shouldn’t be cops if they’re such scaredy-cats since that seems to be their go to bullshit excuse for getting away with murder.

    • I noticed that. In the one story I came across with open comments, that story had a quote from the victim’s relatives blaming the trigger happy shoot first ask questions later cop. So the one place where the rabble could say something actually did spend some lines on the reality.

The reason SWATTING exists is because of how the cops behave. If the cops didn’t react like a bunch of rabid dogs on every anonymous tip or phone call with spoofed number then it simply wouldn’t be a thing.

      • Let’s not just dismiss the phone system though. Yes, for sure the decision to pull the trigger is certainly on the cop. But once the force assumes the information supplied is correct just because it came from a machine the entire system breaks down. There needs to be checks and verification made prior to action, clearly this isn’t the case today.

The ultimate answer is of course to privatize and allow for competitive police forces for protection. That way if you have a real hostage situation you call your security force and they take care of it. Since they are highly motivated to not waste money, or expose themselves to lawsuits, they might actually take a few minutes to get the job right instead of reacting without thinking.

        • IME Towing companies when removing vehicles from private property use a password system. Not anyone can call to have cars removed from the property. Doesn’t matter what number it comes from. No password, no tow. And that’s just a matter of property and man hours.

  13. “Are there any non murderous cops left in the western world, esp. the good ole USSA? It is like the cops just go to work hoping to kill someone today, all the cops, all the time. ”

It really does appear that the nightmare scenario depicted by liberty minded psychologists, of closet serial killers seeking out occupations that legally enable them to engage in undisguised premeditated murder, has come to pass.

Believe it or not, but the situation in “Communist” China is actually far better, or should I saw, nowhere as bad. Regular cops in China don’t even carry guns. Only riot type police do.

As one American noted on Quora:

What’s the difference between Chinese police and American police?

Arthur Dayne, studied Economics & Accounting at University of Washington (2009)
    Answered Jul 18
Chinese cops subdue suspects including murderers without killing/shooting them while American cops just shoot to kill even against unarmed blonde white women in their underwear like Justine Ruszczyk Damond (an Aussie woman living in America for over 2 years) https://www.washingtonpost.com/n

That’s just an example of the daily but normal American way cops here conduct business. In China you can approach police officers without fear of losing your life, limb or ability to breathe/walk- all the Anti Chinese propaganda American media makes up about China is false and it is the American Govt and Police Force that commits these atrocities.

This is fact and not a point of debate.

  14. As much as I’m not against self-driving vehicles, I also know that they will be as secure as the phone network. That is to say, not at all. How the hell is it possible for someone to “prank” a 911 call center? From California?

    https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2017/12/after-swatting-death-in-kansas-25-year-old-arrested-in-los-angeles/

Tyler Barriss, a 25-year old from South Los Angeles, was taken into custody Friday night, according to the local ABC News affiliate. (ABC also notes that “Glendale police arrested a 22-year-old man with the same name for making bomb threats to KABC-TV” back in 2015.) NBC News, speaking to unnamed local “sources” in LA, says that Barriss “had been living at a transitional recovery center.”

I get it that anyone can pull a fire alarm. I get that in most public schools, we all remember that time when that kid thought he’d be funny and pull the alarm. But a 25 YO man? Grow the hell up already!

  15. As one informed me last year “and now they’re shooting us” to which I replied “you mean Shooting Back”. It didn’t set well with him. I made my point.

Something nobody ever says is they all scream like they’re terrified, which they obviously are. But with the cacophony of noise of several screamers you can’t understand a word they say. They be better off with one screamer……as would their victims.

  16. Are there any non murderous cops left in the western world, esp. the good ole USSA? It is like the cops just go to work hoping to kill someone today, all the cops, all the time. No wonder people have taken to shooting the bastards.
