Here’s the latest reader question, along with my reply!

Peter asks: Eric, I love your site. I read all your articles. I am interested in the Honda CRV (2017/2018). I did not find a review of this car on your site. Did I miss it? If not do you have an opinion?

My reply: Few vehicles are as “blue chip” – safe bets – as the Honda CR-V and its major rival, the Toyota RAV4. Both have an established track record and are generally very reliable and durable; both are also extremely space efficient and practical. These two were among the first to mine the compact-mid-sized crossover SUV market and still dominate it today.

Both, however, have been criticized for being as interesting as toasters – especially recently (the RAV lost the V6 it used to be available with).

But – good news! The 2018 CR-V is available with a more powerful engine – the 1.5 liter turbo – or you can stick with the base 2.4, which is perfectly adequate.

You also have the option to go FWD or AWD.

The main weakness with respect to both of these is the skimpy vs. others warranty coverage – but that’s obviated by their blue chipness.

Either way, I doubt you’d regret buying either of these. They are the safest bets, just about, of their kind!

PS: I haven’t yet written up the 2018 – but here’s my review of the 2012, which is still generally relevant. There is a search box on the right side of the main page; you can use this to find pretty much anything ever published here!
