Here’s the audio of this week’s Wheels Up! segment with Bill Meyer over at KMED FM in Medford, OR. We talked about front-facing brake lights, the ’25 Lincoln Nautilus and Dependence Day:

Looks like we’re gonna whacked with another unpayable $5 trillion of debt, thanks to shadowy machinations overnight in the House of Ill Repute:
‘House Republicans advanced their “big, beautiful bill” full of President Trump’s legislative priorities early Thursday morning, overcoming a key procedural hurdle after GOP leaders left the vote open for hours to quell an internal revolt.
‘Speaker Johnson called their bluff, held the vote open for more than five hours, and then adopted the rule after winning just enough support — an effort that got a big boost from Trump, who spoke with some of the holdouts during the long, midnight impasse.
‘The chamber voted 219-213 to adopt a rule governing debate on Trump’s domestic agenda, opening up discussion on the megabill and teeing up a final vote on the package.
‘Shortly before the rule vote closed, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) convened the group of GOP holdouts on the floor and the group prayed together. Johnson then snapped a photo of the critics. The conservative holdouts then changed their votes from “no” to “yes,” allowing the rule to be adopted.’

Only one Republican voted against the rule, along with the 212 Democrats. Even Thomas Massie flipped his vote back to ‘yea’ after Trump promised to stop being mean to him.
Lesson: you don’t want to ever find yourself under fire with Republiclowns. They’ll sell you out in heartbeat; even offer you up as a hostage. JFK should have written a sequel to his book Profiles in Courage, titling it Profiles in Pusillanimity.
Minority leader Hakeem Jeffries is filibustering now with his unlimited ‘magic minute’ speech. But he can only go on so long, before the dirty deed gets done by the profligate R-party borrow-and-spenders, who make LBJ look like a miser by comparison.
Never, never again allow a Republiclown to pose as a ‘fiscal conservative.’ They print, borrow and spend like there’s no tomorrow — as do their D-party ‘opponents.’
Hi Jim,
I knew after all the blustering and bullsh*t they would cave, they always do. I am surprised at Thomas Massie though, wonder what they have on him.
Two Republicans, Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) and Thomas Massie (R-KY), joined 212 Democrats in opposing the budget reconciliation bill. The vote tally was 218-214.

Massie voted for the rule which enabled debate on the bill. But evidently, he had second thoughts about caving, and went back to NAY on the final vote.
Probably wise on his part. Verbal deals with Trump don’t mean a thing.
Ahh, the final countdown. Florida RE market crashing, anticipated job numbers down $33K in June, and another $5 trillion added to the deficit.
I would expect most of this forum to be rejoicing. This country is one step closer to it closing shop. The problem is the rest of the world economies will be right behind it. Individuals and corporations are saddled with debt. Are we truly surprised that governments are saddled with debt? The USSA started its inception with $75 million of debt due to the Revolutionary War. It increased to $2.7 billion after the Civil War, $22 billion after WWI, and $260 billion after WWII. Under Reagan debt rose to just under a trillion dollars.
As Alexander Fraser Tytler accurately declared, “”A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury.” With the rare exception of Jackson’s presidency they have been voting this way for 249 years.
“It’s a never ending attack
Ev’rything’s a lie and that’s a fact
Life is a lemon and I want my money back
And all the morons
And all the stooges with their coins
They’re the ones who make the rules, it’s not a game it’s just a rout”

As a tax pro, you probably recall the deal behind the Tax Reform Act of 1986 under Reagan. The top bracket was cut from 50 to 28 percent, in exchange for ending many deductions, including personal interest.
Since then we’ve drifted back to higher top brackets and many more deductions and credits — cuz that’s what scheming politicians do.
In this latest bill, EeeVee tax credits are ditched. But now, car loan interest on new, US-assembled vehicles is deductible up to $10,000. So one auto subsidy is exchanged for another one.
I can’t think of a less deserving industry to receive special treatment. America has plenty of capably-managed, growing companies which don’t need bailouts and subsidies. But instead, we subsidize union-ridden, sunset industries.
This dirty deal just reinforces the status of auto makers as de facto arms of government. I refuse to do business with them.
They probably threatened his life, though I don’t think he’s the end all of congress critters
