Subaru is Smart . . . Sort of

Subaru is “re-evaluating” its “overall direction toward electrified vehicles,” says CEO Atsushi Osaki.

Probably on account of the direction other manufacturers – especially Ford, Dodge, Mercedes-Benz and VW – are headed in, on account of their imprudent “commitment” to battery powered devices. The latter term isn’t derisive, by the way. It is descriptive. In the same way that describing a man wearing dress who insists he is a “she” as mentally ill is descriptive. This may hurt feelings but it doesn’t obviate facts. These things are devices powered by batteries. The term nicely conveys the homogenous character of the things. All of them essentially the same things, differing only in color and shape. Like blenders, microwave ovens and smartphones.

Anyhow, Subaru execs have taken note, apparently, of the stupendous losses – they are in the billions – incurred by Ford. The disastrous, possible irrecoverable sales losses afflicting Mercedes and VW, both of which may go bankrupt as a result of their “commitment.” Dodge is near-death on account of the suicidal decision by now-former Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares to cancel the Dodge Charger and Challenger and replace them both with a device called “Charger” that is as popular with Dodge buyers as Dylan Mulvaney is with Bud Light drinkers.

“We are re-evaluating our plans,” Osaki says. One can envision the captain of the Titanic saying the same – only in this case, Osaki is saying it before the collision with the iceberg. He mentions the “rapidly changing environment,” which encompasses the Trumpian tariffs but also the rapidly declining interest in battery powered devices, for essentially the same fundamental reason there is waning interest in the drugs being pushed by the pharmaceutical cartels. And – for the record – “pushed” is exactly the right word because it is the correct word. The word is often used to malign people who sell the drugs arbitrarily decreed to be illegal by the government but it is difficult to find a single instance of anyone who bought illegal drugs having been coerced in any way to buy them.

Just a point of order.

Battery-powered devices are a lot like the legalized drugs that are pushed by the pharmaceutical cartels – in that they are pushed on us by the very same government that pushes legalized drugs on people. It’s an interesting congruence.

Subaru seems to prefer selling vehicles, which presupposes people want to buy them. That is why Subaru has been – what’s the right word? – hesitant to “commit” to battery-powered devices. The one device it currently has in its lineup – the Solterra – is in fact a rebadged Toyota bZ4x device. Subaru is smart. Let Toyota waste its R&D resources on making devices. It is far cheaper to let Toyota bear the brunt of the costs of designing a device, in other words.

There is another device apparently in the works – to be called (hilariously) Trailseeker, which is hilarious because seeking trails is arguably the last thing you’d want to try doing with a device because there is no place to charge up a device on a trail. If you own a device, you are tethered to a radius within the range of wherever there’s a place to plug the thing in. Such places are where there’s infrastructure. Especially as regards the also-hilariously styled “fast” chargers, where you’re forced to wait a long time for a charge. It is of a piece with the “convenience fee” you are charged by the DMV for using a credit card to pay the “court costs” levied on you by the court that forced you to appear before it to convict you – and “fined” you – for having caused no harm to anyone but having been found guilty of affronting the authority of the government in some way, as by “speeding.”

Back to devices. Automotive News says the “pace of Subaru’s rollout (of new devices) and the amount of money it plows into the technology is under review as the company braces for sliding sales and withholds earnings guidance.”

Subaru’s Senior Managing Executive Officer Tomoaki Emori said “It is becoming more difficult to decide how to incorporate electrification into our production mix.” That’s polite Japanese executive-speak for how do we extricate ourselves from this mess?

Emori also said: “While the shift to electrification and EVs is slowing down, EVs are the main scheme for dealing with global warming.” Italics added.

Oy meet vey.

This is either poltroonery or stupidity – and both conditions seem to afflict practically every decision-maker at every car company, Subaru included. Until this genuflecting before assertions of “global warming” (and “climate change,” the new term for the same thing) is stopped this pushing of devices will not stop. And Subaru’s “re-evaluating” will end up being nothing but a short-term abatement.

Same goes, by the way, for the abatement of the regs that are imposing compliance with all of this. President Trump has yet to forthrightly reject the underlying justification for them – i.e., this nonsense that the “climate” is “changing” because we’re most of us still driving vehicles with engines rather than devices powered by batteries. Like pretty much every Republican, he just wants to dial back the “transition” a little bit. He wants to “get back” to the regs that were imposed in 2020 – which got us to where we are right now.

The only way to get us out is to get rid of them entirely.

And the only way to do that is to stop agreeing with the claim that the “climate” is changing.”

  1. The jew golf carts are only a stopgap until they herd you into your 15 minute corral. Read Agenda 21/30. Read the talmud, as pertains to Goyim. Read it and wake the fuck up. They want you dead, The whole point of injections was to kill you off. This ain’t no party, this anin’t no disco, this ain’t no foolin around.

  2. My wife likes her Forrester. We leased it to avoid putting lots of miles on our low miles, 2O plus year old daily drivers. Plus, who wants to take a nice car to shitty California?

The good, its got a real key. The bad, seat belt alarm beeps when the dog is in the back seat [note to Subaru, stop acting like you love dogs. You people eat them FFS]. The best, I get to turn it in two and a half years from now when the lease ends. Probably about the same time the wonky transmission and juiced up four cylinder takes a shit.

Hopefully the automakers that fully embraced globull warming die first. Maybe those just following the big guys will see the error of their ways and go back to a truly novel concept. Giving the customer what they want.

    • A friend of mine just bought a new Forester a year or so ago, and after her other one finally died. No key, just the push button and FOB (ugh). I had to show her how to shut off some of the safety crap, because it was driving her nuts. Her last one was really nice, albeit, it was old enough that it did not have the saaaafety stuff it has now. But what was really creepy, was the day she said she went out to unlock her car with her FOB in a store parking lot, only to have it not only open up the doors to her Forster, but the one sitting next to hers, as well. It is a nice car and all, but I long for the days when they were not computers (and big brother trackers) on wheels.

    • My brother has a Forester, it is older no annoying “safety” nonsense. I’ve yet to ask if he IDs as a male lesbian.

RE: key fobs I learned a Jeep hack while trying to fix the non responsive fob, after a fob battery change. Use the rounded end of the dead fob to push the start button, apparently that puts the fob antenna close enough the car will recognize (activate?) and the car starts. Me? I got the 2nd fob took both inside the car it started and that re synced the 1st fob which has the fresh battery. What a bunch of hooey. I almost did both fob batteries at once sure glad I didn’t.

      • I will remember the FOB hack for the day when my friend starts having issues with hers. Grief, and here I remember the days of popping the clutch on some of my much older vehicles. What I would not give to go back to those days.

        • Before clutch “safety” switches you could launch a car in first gear via the starter. Yep, and push starting a manual shift car with a lame battery.

    • Norman, there is a built in seat belt chime hack in subi’s. I’ve done it for a friend.
Something like: turn to acc, buckle and unbuckle seat belt 20 times, turn off. Works
      YT it.

  3. ‘Like pretty much every Republican, he just wants to dial back the “transition” a little bit.’ — eric

Mend not end, my friends. It is the Way of the RINO.

Like your Obamacare? Thank a Republiclown! 🙂

    • Most Republicans lost their balls a long time ago, which also calls into question their professed antipathy towards transgenderism but that’s a whole other discussion.

      • The State of Texas suddenly discovered — Shazam! — that one particular renowned pediatric hospital in the state was running “gender affirmation” programs for minors at a time when they needed a distraction from the large property tax increases put before the voters as “reform” in a special quarter-term election two years ago.

The prosecution of the hospital continues to proceed as yet another tax deal may have to go before the voters this fall to keep the “reform” process moving forward.

      • Let us not forget hack in black John RINO Roberts, who adumbrated that Obamacare is ‘a tax, not a penalty.’

Obama is long gone. But RINO Roberts, like a week-old fish carcass, still hangs around stinking up the joint.

        • Oh yes, John Roberts, who somehow found Obamacare constitutional, which may have paved the way for the Biden Thing just a few years later to attempt to decree that MILLIONS of Americans who have a job MUST be guinea pigs for Big Pharma to continue working at those jobs. Had that decree NOT been overturned at SCOTUS, it would have likely emboldened the Biden-Harris regime to treat their own citizens as farm animals to experiment with as they pleased.

          • Roberts realized that the vaccination mandate would have directly affected the 20% of the population who still do something meaningful for the economy so he threaded the needle very fine in the majority opinion, striking down the OSHA regulation for general workers that Covid was not going to be a workplace hazard for most. This did leave the door open, however, to mandate the jab for healthcare workers, which Roberts and Kavanaugh (!) upheld, voting with the Liberals.

            • Yeah, I wanna tell these worthless judges thanks for nothing. I had to fight to keep my job in healthcare while not getting jabbed. I managed to do both, but not before wearing a worthless face diaper that did nothing to help the rest of my health. I still do not regret NOT taking the jab, but know of a half a dozen health care workers who deeply regret doing so. Will they learn their lesson the next time around? Many woke up after the COVID crap, so who knows. We may not have long to find out if Bill Gates has his way. I knew there was a possibility of me losing my house, and ending up living in my old car. So be it, I was homeless at one point in life. It sucks, but better to have my head on straight and my health, than the whole world, and be sick.

    • Don’t forget that Obamacare was invented at the Heritage foundation and Mitt Romney was the first to implement it in Massachusetts.

      • Hi Horst,

That might be news to people who to this day STILL think Obamacare is a wonderful thing, as many of them have been utterly frightened over something allegedly pushed by the Heritage Foundation called “Project 2025”.

  4. The “global warming” crowd selected the very best new name, because the climate IS changing, and always has been. Thank God, or otherwise we would still have glaciers all over the place. The problem is, it changes so slowly that no one lives long enough to notice it, or to distinguish it from weather.

  5. Subaru’s biggest problem isn’t climate change but the politicians that push the climate change narrative. One solution is making the resident GovCo in whichever country demands them pay for them to be built there. Once common sense returns close the plant and blame GovCo. To do otherwise risks the business but sadly most executives thought it was better to waste their money instead of GovCo’s money and will wind up going out of business because of it.

    • Have you called a Ford 1-800 number staffed in Dearborn in the last 10-15 years?

Fine Irish names all. Saints and begorrah, I’m sure they have nothing but feelings of kinship and love for the people of Israel and followers of the Jewish faith all over the world.

Of course, maybe I’m jumping to conclusions.

    • Hey, we DO have “climate change”. It is called having four seasons. Who knew? Someone should tell these geniuses, and send them back to Kindergarten to relearn everything they think they know, but do not.

      • Indeed Shadow, the middle of May and I still have to run the heat most mornings. We’ve had a couple days in the 70’s but mostly gloomy, drizzling, and nasty winds. Been one long winter so far.

        • It was a chilly, 24 degrees this morning, so I hope people have not started planting their gardens yet. It all depends on whether the ground has thawed enough. Many start the plants indoors, and then transplant them once it warms up enough. The heater is still turning on once in a while up here, as well, and I usually shut it off once Summer arrives, but Summer has not officially made its entrance, albeit, the mosquitoes are more than happy to usher in the season. On the bright side, it is light out at 2300, which is nice, and it does not really get dark anymore. Barrow saw its last sunset (for 84 days) last Saturday, I believe, and they will not see another one until August. At least we can count on two things: Crooked, evil politicians acting, well, crooked and evil. And the sun being out all day this time of year. It makes the long Winters worth it.

        • Same drill here in Central WA (east of the Cascade Mts).

49 this morning at least the wind had stopped. Barely got to 60 and the wind is back. Local news says the snow level tomorrow in the mountains will be 3500 feet, crazy for mid May. Wind most of the week and temps in the 60s. We should be 70 plus by now with some 80 degree days, not this year.

    • Hi Mark,

I can’t think of any way to frame “Climate change” as antisemitic, but it is interesting how people who shriek the loudest about CLIMATE CHANGE tend to be the same ones who are millionaires or even billionaires, fly in private jets, own a yacht, live in a multi million dollar mansion, or even eat fancy steak dinners. Examples include Bill Gates, John Kerry, Barack Obama, Bernie Sanders, etc. And yet, many people who aren’t uber wealthy have been propagandized by corporate media and these elitists into believing that their neighbors who drive a gas vehicle and eat meat are CAUSING CLIMATE CHANGE.
