Subaru has announced it is reconsidering its “commitment” to battery powered devices – i.e., EVs. I like to use battery powered devices because it honestly disparages the things. But that’s a subject for another rant. For now, I’d like to hone in on this “commitment” business…

GOOD!
Now the next step is for the federal government to walk back any and all mpg requirements.
Huh, who could have expected this? EP needs to be hired as Dodge’s Chief Product Development Officer.
It’s Official, Dodge Is Killing The Electric Charger Daytona R/T

I the charger is really fast theywouldn’t need to include the word fast in the term. Ever go to a fast gas pump?
>Ever go to a fast gas pump?
Sure. 🙂
Those are the ones where the “gallons pumped” meter moves ever so slowly, but the digits on the “amount charged” spin so fast you can’t even read them. 🙁
It’s called “pulling a fast one.”
Without GovCo coercion the market for EVs is pretty small. If the mini EV’s (small & cheap) they have in China were legal for road use here they might have a niche market but a small car that cost’s $15K more with half of the range? Nope.
It’s top down schizophrenic planners trying to micromanage our lives. The market does want small town runabouts so we see things “they” do allow, those electric scooter and bikes, golf carts used for that. The market for an EV you’d use for chores would sell well, it really would. But it can’t be made cheap enough and meet the dozens of hands in the pot demands placed upon it. It doesn’t need to be a full featured car but you can’t use anything not blessed by the DOT and DMV as a “car” so we get imperfect workarounds when all you really are shopping for is a Geo Metro that you can plug in and get 50 miles of stop-and-go running around with with 4 hours of overnight charging.
Hi. Of course there’s the GX160 engine swap into a mobility scooter that seems to go nice but honestly you’re right. The Geo Metro could not be built today at a price that any one would buy it at either.
Hi Wandering,
Yup – exactly. If the free market existed, we’d be free to buy things that met our needs and wants – as opposed to government demands.
Good for you, Subaru.
Now bring back the 6 cylinder engine and the 5EAT/6 speed manual transmissions.
I’d settle for the offerings from the mid-teens when there was a turbo Forester XT for grown ups who (outgrew their WRX &) desired some performance from their otherwise bland crossover.
How hard could it be to bring the Levorg to the US? Or add a 2.4t to a CrossTrek?
Is there ABSOLUTELY NO MARKET for family oriented performance vehicles?!?!?
A couple of days ago, the New York Slimes featured an article about how Japan was disadvantaged by the Orange Emperor’s ‘deal’ with China. Japan ls left paying higher tariffs than China to import autos into the US.
‘Two of Japan’s top automakers [Honda and Nissan] issued dire profit forecasts, weighed down by the effects of U.S. car tariffs.’

Japan is feeling the heat of Tariff Man’s idle whims. [Do not touch his cape.] Worthless frippery such as ‘EeeVees’ are the first thing to be heaved overboard, when corporate survival is imperiled by the perfidious gaijin.
Death to EeeVees, declare I. That’s my commiiiiiiiiiiiiitment!
