Israel is not Our Ally . . . and Iran is not Our Enemy

John Adams may have been His Rotundity in the eyes of his critics. But he was no fool. He (unlike Jefferson, an admirable man in many respects but a fool in this respect) did not believe France was America’s ally. He understood that France had interests and that France’s interests temporarily jibed with those of the nascent United States (plural, then) as regards the latter’s attempt to secede from the British empire. France being at odds with the British empire at the time.

The Comte de Vergennes – who was the French King’s foreign minister – was also no fool. He – like Adams – also understood that the Franco-American alliance was one of interest rather than affection. Washington understood this too. He declined the importunings of Citizen Genet – the new French emissary to the United States (still plural, for the moment) after the French king lost his head to the Jacobins – who sought American involvement on France’s side against the British on the basis of “friendship” with France.

The state of Israel has interests, too.

The question before the United States (now singular) is whether the interests of the state of Israel are congruent with the interests of the people of the United States. Specifically, does it make America great again to involve itself in a war with Iran – a country that has not attacked the United States and only responded to an attack by the state of Israel, which openly says it will not allow other states to possess the nuclear deterrent it itself possesses?

How so?

Did it serve the interests if Americans to go to war with Iraq? It may have served the interests of the people who have operational control over the government of the United States, but that is of course something often incongruent with the interests of the people of the United States.

Is Iran the enemy of the people of the United States? How so? Has Iran attacked the United States? Can it attack the United States? Iran by all accounts does not possess the means to do so in any meaningful sense as it lacks missiles capable of reaching the United States and lacks even one crude, WWII-type nuclear weapon while the United States has, according to most estimates, something on the order of 5,000 nuclear weapons, including fusion bombs with yields in the megatons. Are the Iranians stupid? Their culture and history suggests they are not. The ululating bogeyman conjured by those who want a war with Israel is almost as silly as the “COVID”-is-going-to-get-you bogeyman except with much more serious implications.

It is reasonable to assume the Iranians would like to have a nuclear deterrent – note the italics – for the same reason the United States (and Israel) have such a deterrent. Would the state of Israel have launched its recent attack if the Iranians did have a nuclear deterrent? Almost certainly not – because the Israelis are not stupid, either. They know it serves no one’s interests to uncork the atomic genie. This would restrain them from attacking Iran unless Iran attacked them first, which Iran is not likely to do given Israel’s nuclear capability.

QED.

But Israel does have interests, like any other state. More finely, the people who have operational control over the state of Israel have interests. They wish to be able to dominate the region, which they can do so long as they are the only ones in possession of the atomic genie. They can attack at will – as they just have. And they can perpetrate atrocities – as in Gaza – with impunity because what’s anyone going to do about it? If Egypt or any other nearby state were to intervene on behalf of the Gazans, what would the state of Israel do? What would it be restrained from doing if Egypt also had the atomic genie?

Israel’s interests, then, are hegemonic control over the area around Israel. The power to bully other states, in other words. Is that congruent with the interests of Americans?

it is a question a man like Adams would have asked.

    Don’t care much about Israel. Not forgotten the USS Liberty and the other shenanigans. They should not get any financial support from us. But I do care about the islamic turds who flipped Iran (“Land of the Aryans”) into a continual canker sore. Whole lotta people there who are tired of the burka shit. Iran had an amazing history until ’79. You even mention that. Thing is, their culture and history was forcibly ended, much as our own government has tried to do to us. So yeah, I’d lob a few bunker-busters to keep nukes out of their hands, use a “friend” to take out their leadership just to see what might happen if the Iranians thought they had a chance to correct course.

    I’m sure they would like all the same deterrent features of nuclear “protection” as we do. But the ideology does not permit moral equivalence. Not all cultures are the same- just walk through any major American city. Iran had higher-IQ potential. I hope it’s still around.

    We can go back and forth about who did what first, why they hate us, and so on. My thoughts go to a nephew, friends, and sons of friends who had permanent damage done by these people. Yeah- Cheney this, Bush that, but islamic ideology needs to be ended, at least that branch of it. Sick. anti-science. Seeking only darkness and perversion. It’s like the He-Man Woman Haters Club for pedos. If elements of our 3-letter agencies promoted it, then they deserve similar treatment.

    Our goodwill only means advantage to these ayatollahs. We see the same thing caused by welfare and other benefits given to our invaders- no gratitude, only leverage to make our lives worse. Sick of it, even in Iran. Or Israel.

      I’ve dealt with both jews and muslims in business and will go out of my way to avoid doing business with jews.
      In my businesses, I have dealt with people of all stripes. I have provided a needed technical service at a fair price which is beneficial for all.
      I have had many repeat customers, not having to advertise except by “word-of-mouth”. My reputation is valuable and is a part of my ethics–providing an honest service at a fair price.
      I have dealt with many middle easterners, where “haggling” is a part of doing business. I have no problem with “haggling”, understanding that in middle eastern and even in other cultures, bargaining on price is “the way things are done” and I respect that.
      I have never had a problem with Muslim customers. Yes, “haggling” does go on, but when I explain the reasons for the pricing of my services, they accept the agreed-upon costs.
      I have NEVER had a good experience in my business dealing with jews.
      Yes, they “haggle” which is to be expected, but they also are aggressive in their demands for a lower price, no matter how reasonable the cost.
      Not only that, jews do not pay their bills either on time, or the agreed-upon amount. The times that I have accepted business from a jew, they either don’t pay at all, late pay or pay a lesser than the agreed-upon amount. Attaching a lien to the property is one of the only ways to assure that a jew will pay his bill.
      I learned my “lesson” many decades ago and will not deal with jews without demanding payment “up front”.
      In fact, I prefer not to deal with jews at all. The hassle and aggravation is just not worth it.
      That being said, the problem is judaism, not Islam.

It alone offers the opportunity to understand nuance in any situation, yet also grants courage, wisdom, and decisiveness to anyone willing to learn its ways. It’s not the same as nice. It’s the opposite of weakness. It is revealed in strength, in craftsmanship, and in how we listen to each other.

    I am willing to bet that Trump is tired of Netanyahu (nee: Mielikowsky;s) antics and whining about Iran that he chose to (supposedly) knock out Iran’s nuclear program. This will get Netanyahu to shut up, for at least a little while.
    In the meantime targets in occupied Palestine are being attacked with good results, the European “settlers” scurrying like rats (that they are) to other countries.

        This scenario is probably unlikely, but think about this…

        Donald John Trump is a businessman, not a politician and as such, has applied business tactics to his decisions. As a businessman, you give the customer a satisfactory product or service available at the time without overdoing it. Difficult customers (such as israel) would get the minimum to fulfill the business agreement while good customers would get additional “perks”.

        Jew Benjamin Netanyahu (nee:Miliekowsky) is a politician totally immersed in his quest for world domination, using “bully-boy” USA to enforce its dictates. It is easy to see that Trump is somewhat disgusted with Netanyahu and his tactics.

        It would not surprise me if back-channel talks are taking place between the White House and Iran, informing Iranian officials that there will be some “light taps” armaments delivered to the three nuclear sites (just to satisfy israel and stop Netanyahu’s whining) while informing them that they won’t do any damage. This could easily be accomplished purposely leaving israel out of the loop.

        Trump could easily get away with this, getting Netanyahu to “back off” and quit pestering him like a mosquito while getting israel to back off attacking Iran. It is no secret that Iran could totally wipe out israel with its present armaments.

        I say this, because Netanyahu is such a a royal pain-in-the-ass to the USA especially when advancing jewish interests and is always bugging Trump to do “what is good for israel” while being a pest. Of course having 530 or so congresscritters with AIPAC handlers doesn’t help…

        I am speaking from personal experiences dealing with israelis and jews in general. They are always pushy, abusive in their unreasonable demands, and in general are to be avoided whenever possible.     It is not known what course of action President Trump intends to take. If he orders an attack upon Iran, the military may REFUSE that as an “illegal order” absent a declaration of war by Congress.

    If the military carries out the order, Congress may IMPEACH TRUMP for waging war without authorization.

    Meanwhile, vast military assets of the United States have been massed in the Middle East, waiting for a lawful order to do something. It is not known if a lawful order is actually coming.”

That means Israel must surrender of be decimated.

    NBC is airing Jaws tonight on TV. Jaws was released on 20 June 1975. So I looked up what big geo-political events happened back then as for clues to what is happening now.

    What wave repeat can we infer? In 1975 we had The Fall of Saigon.

    The wave repeat is the Fall of Tel Aviv. The imperial power can not prevent the uprising, North Vietnam offensive is being wave repeated as the Iran offensive.

      The whole embassy hostage situation, which Boomer and older Gen X types remember like it was yesterday – for Trump, it’s always 1979 – was a false flag.       There are two alternative hypotheses. Or, the more realistic scenario, Israel wants to be sole economic and military power in the region.     I do not know what can be done about this but hundreds of millions of Americans have been duped into thinking that “America’s interests” require sticking its nose into the affairs of every pissant country around the world. It has gotten its nose bit several times but still has not learned.

    It would be child’s play to rewrite this article from the vantage point of, say, 1942, using the same logic. Was Japan justified in its surprise attack on Pearl Harbor? After all, the Roosevelt regime had placed Japan under an ‘existential’ [Israel’s favorite term] oil embargo.

    So in the words of ‘experts’ cited in the article, ‘[Japan’s] current military operation is part of a continuing conflict that began when the US embargoed [Japan] in 1941. That could strengthen [Japan’s] argument that its actions are part of its defensive measures, and thus legal.’

    Same for Adolf H’s invasion of Poland in 1939 — ‘defensive,’ don’t you see?

    So the Nuremberg tribunal’s conclusion that fomenting aggressive war is the supreme international crime is now fodder for debate in the middlebrow news media. Nobody can really be sure of anything now. The rules-based order is supremely malleable.

  27. Starting in the middle – the so called justification for the current Israeli attack on Iran is predicated on the long false claim that Iran is minutes away from building nuclear weapons.

    This in turn is the result of the claim that Iran is the largest state sponsor or terror in the world. That is actually the USA.

    The claim is because Iran supports entities that Israel doesn’t like.

    The forgotten part in this is that in the 50s, the USA and UK pushed Iran and Syria into an alliance to check the power of Israel, now used as proof that Iran is set on destroying Israel.

    Israel seems to have purchased the use of US politicians to drive our foreign policy in the middle east to their ultimate goal – expanding the state of Israel into “greater Israel” and becoming the hegemon of the middle east.

    They do not have the ability to do it without our help, so we stupidly assist against the benefit of the American people.

    9/11 was the direct result of this support.
    Trillions spent, thousands of US military dead, thousands more injured physically and mentally.
    Thousands of veteran suicides.
    Continued instability and stressful relations.
    1,000,000 or more civilians dead.

    Where is the upside here for Joe sixpack?

    This is a game being played by tunnel visioned, low understanding grifters in government who make millions trading on the lives of innocent people.

    • And what caused all that meddling to begin with? Post World War I treaties and agreements between the former Ottoman Empire and League of Nations “mandates” granting administrative powers to France and Britain. This was justified as a form of stewardship until the newly formed countries could govern themselves but was widely seen as veiled colonialism. In other words, the poor, backwards Ottoman was unable to properly manage his own affairs, so the wise Europeans had to take control.

      Lawrence was just trying to help.

      Never mind that the Ottoman Empire having control over all that oil would dominate global trade even more than the United States. It didn’t hurt that most of the land was empty or only used seasonally for feeding livestock. When the Europeans tried to figure out ownership it was like the scene in Monty Python where the bloody peasant explains collectivism to King Arthur. So borders were never really all that well defined and based on European goals, not tradition or tribal loyalty.

      Of course we all know why: Oil and Silk Road trade routes. Same old story, never ending. That and the Balfour Declaration demanding a national home for the Jewish people (Europe was all about kicking out the Jews as far back as 1917).

        Indeed. Then on 14 May 1948, ‘veiled’ morphed into naked, overt colonialism, which continues to this day.

        What happened to Palestine over the past century — an Arab majority diluted to a 20 percent minority within Israel’s unrecognized borders — is the model for today’s population replacement campaigns (using migrants) in North America and western Europe.

        Israel is our misfortune.

    • You forgot the part about bribed, bought and blackmailed politicians/officials. I think it is heavier on the blackmailed group. A cheaper investment and you don’t have to worry about whether or not they stay bought and by who.

      • There’s a fairly large population of Iranian ex-pats (they call themselves “Persians”) living in the US. Their politics are much like the Cuban exiles in that they expect the US policy to cater to their wishes, not what is useful for the US in general. So until the Shaw is rethroned and they get their property returned we’re stuck with our myopic Iranian policy. That it helps Israel is just another justification.

        • For such small nation it sure does have outsized problems. Ever since I was a kid they were talking about Israhell on the news getting atacked like the country is as important as China or some other big country. I really don’t care about Israhell one way or the other just like I don’t care about Noth Sudan attacking South Sudan. One solution to this is to have all the other nuclear powers come together on something I’m sure they can agree on. China, Russia, the US can all nuke Israhell or at least the leadership in Tel Aviv and put the problem to rest for a little while.
