Regular unleaded is now back to over $4 per gallon again, courtesy of Trump’s Ahab-like refusal to accept that the war is lost. Like Ahab, he is determined to pursue his white whale to the ends of the Earth, even if it means his own destruction and ours along with him.
AAA says regular unleaded is currently – as of July 30 – about $4.10 per gallon. How much higher will it go as Ahab continues to rail at (and bomb) his white whale? More finely, Netanyahu’s white whale. The real president’s visit is coincident with the restart of the war. The factotum president – who is more a viceroy – did as he was told to do.
And now we’re paying for it, again.
So are the Iranians. We in America ought to reflect that while we are experiencing pain at the pump, the Iranians are experiencing a different kind of pain. That so many Americans are indifferent says a lot about America. There is also something to say about the Republican Party, which is now grossly complicit. It has shrugged both its constitutional as well as its moral duty to reign in the spray-tanned Ahab. That we are at war is self-evident truth. It is insolent to the truth to claim otherwise. Congress has a duty to reign in a president who takes the country to war at his own behest. An illegitimate – a criminal – war. Iran did not attack the United States. The United States attacked Iran at the behest of a foreign state. If this is not a treasonous act then what is?
Clintigula was excoriated by Republicans for lying about his personal business. The GOP never does anything substantive about the public’s business. Then as now. This time is however a different time. Clintigula was popular; this stupid, evil war is not. It is the only war in memory that was never popular. Many Americans initially supported The Chimp’s WarrnnnTrrrr – including the manufactured war against “Saddam,” as The Chimp routinely referred to him. It is worth recalling that it was the same state that got us into that war that got us into this war. Israel fed The Chimp bullshit about “weapons of mass destruction” – and mass destruction did indeed ensue.
The public – including lots of Republicans – eventually soured on The Chimp’s wars, which led to eight years of Barry Obama. Vietnam was another war that – at first – roused the Lee Greenwood Legions. Some 60,000 dead Americans later, they were no longer Proud to be Americans.
This is worse than that. A minority of Republicans, mostly elderly Fox News consumers, support the war. Pretty much everyone else was – at best – deeply ambivalent when Trump started the war and that shifted over to disgusted trending toward enraged as it became clear the thing is not just a war crime but a disaster. Hitler’s war was initially extremely popular – chiefly because he was winning, or so it seemed. By 1943, not so much – except in the hysteric rants of the those-days equivalents of today’s Sean Hannitys and Pushy Pink Peddlers (i.e., Glenn Beck). It did not end well for their analogs of 80 years ago and it is not likely to end well for them, either. No matter how often they play the Lee Greenwood song.
The GOP is at a crossroads. It can do something, while there is still time to do something – before it is too late, in other words – or it can do something do reign in Ahab and (perhaps) thereby save itself from what it otherwise coming.
For all of us.

I think you will find this as frightening as I do. Walmart and other large global retailers are adopting digital programmable pricing. It is already in many stores. It will eliminate everyone without a smart phone from being able to purchase basic necessities. This includes a lot of seniors, families and others who don’t want the problems these phone bring including privacy and security issues, bad influences, as well as expense. Many people have also adopted VPNs specifically to protect their privacy online and help reduce identity theft and outside marketing influences but those protections will be prohibited, too.
This is another step towards the Chinese-style social credit system.
Only 3 states have banned these so far. (It’s not Texas.) These systems collect and use personal data, including your location, and behaviors and are another wicked use of AI. The Tech Times article link discusses the patents that Walmart just got for these, as well as the security flaws already found. A Consumer Reports investigation found that the cost of basic staples vary as much as 23% from shopper to shopper in the same place.

Indeed, Sandy –
This is a 1775 Moment – by which I mean the time to actively resist/fight back has arrived. These people and institutions are an existential threat. They must be treated accordingly.
The Praetorians and the legions only care about a paycheck. Their job is to be unthinking killing machines, and unthinking people who will engage in mindless behavior for pay can NEVER be counted on to defend any principles. Plus, most of the new legionaries are barbarians now, from lands with no history of reverence for freedom. The only person who can save you is in the mirror. But humanity can easily give itself a bright future. Easily. No more compliance with any of it, and its over. Why should the sheriff foreclose on you, when he is threatened with owning nothing too? It seems everyone can keep what they hold. The cars are problematic, yes. Maybe an industry can arise ripping the digital tech out. Cheap new homes could be reinforced and bolstered for working fireplaces and wood stoves. Food will be the biggest issue. Everybody who can grow vegetables and keep chickens could do so though, once we’re no longer asking for permission to survive or do what’s best. If we do this, at least the kids have a wide open future of possibilities again. If we don’t, they have promised us the forecast for our children is unending misery.
