Is there a congruence between “masking” and Clovering? There just may be. Like “maskers” were back in 2020-2021, Clovers seem to be everywhere – especially the left (passing) lane of two-lane roads. A great many of these are driving trucks and SUVs for some reason. Here’s another one:
Why are so many Clovers driving trucks and SUVs? It probably has to do with so many people driving trucks and SUVs. It used to be that mostly only people who needed a truck or an SUV for work or something more than just transporting people bought trucks and SUVs. But they have become mass-market vehicles and it is as common to see a hausfrau driving one as it is a burly dude on his way to the job site.
The deeper reason, probably, has to do with the tag-team of narcissism and entitlement that is de-civilizing this country. At one time, it was culturally encouraged to try to not be a pain-in-anyone-else’s-ass, as for example by paying attention when you’re looking at stuff on a supermarket shelf and moving yourself and your car out of the way of others who might otherwise be forced to try to get around you, awkwardly. Similarly on the road. People used to be encouraged to use their mirrors – especially the rear one – and to yield to faster moving traffic proactively, because the doing of that helped avoid the bunch-ups and needless slow-downs that have made driving like trying to shop in a store full of oblivious-to-others people who just park their carts in the middle of the aisle while they ponder what’s on the shelf.

At 45 seconds into the video, there is a car in the left lane and you passed them on the right. I think you should have driven behind them and gave them about 30 seconds to move over to the right lane. So you trained the driver of that car to just expect people to pass on the right. You’re right — people are not following the rules of the road, but since they aren’t, you are now having to violate the rules of the road. I know I’m nitpicking but maybe left lane slowpokes are just used to everyone passing on the right so they don’t even bother to move over to the right anymore.

I thought someone might notice that! I suppose I could have stayed behind the left lane hog – and I get your point. about trying to educate them – but experience tells me they never move over and that it’s pointless to try to give them the hint.

I openly admit to “speeding” and exercising judgment – such as not coming to a dead stop at a stop sign when there is obviously no reason to (other than it being The Law). If that makes me a bad driver, then I suppose I am. Never mind decades of accident-free driving…

Recently joining the elderly generation I daily have those fresh youngins fly by me angrily shaking their cell phones at me for doing a snails pace of 80 – 85 on the interstate. Then I pass them up (on the right) five miles up the road. Ya see,,, the youngins get a super important call,,,slow for ‘safety’ while homesteading the left lane.

Some cager moron tried that at a station in Spearfish SD during Rally Week. Dozens of bikes waiting to gas up. We all started yelling and about four guys blocked his walking path convinced him quickly to move his car.
Once, only once, witnessed a clover get his due via the State Patrol. I90, about 10 miles east nearing Snoqualmie Pass – back 20 years only two lanes each way. Clover in the left lane pacing a truck at 55. Smokie was somewhere in the 20 car backup. On come the blue lights traffic gets out of his way. I was about 3 back when the cop went past me and pulled over Captain Clover. Boy did I cheer that one!
I’d cheer if the “proceeds” went into the pockets of the aggrieved.

Saturday afternoon – pick em’ up ridiculously overloaded with hay driving 35-45 on road posted a mix of 55 mph and 60 mph.
Refusing to yield to backed up traffic for over 11 miles despite several snow plow pull outs along the way.
Back when I was a kid, normal behavior was to pull aside, do a friendly wave out the window encouraging others to pass, allow the backup to disperse and then resume travel.
No longer.
Witness the decline of a nation.
I just got done doing I-95 in GA and I-75 in FL. Both are 3 lane each way. I spent much of the time in the far right lane doing 15+ over the speed limit while the center and left lanes were littered with Clovers.
If you time it right you can easily slip over one or two lanes when needed to avoid these ditzels. One Clover I slid in front of honked his horn and flashed his lights. About a mile later I saw him behind another Clover flashing his lights in the left lane instead of just passing on the right. This kept on until I could no longer see him in my mirrors.
This despite numerous signs stating slower traffic keep right and keep right except to pass. Such a combination of ignorance, arrogance and rudeness.
Yes, the good ol’ California method is dangerous but effective. Clover gets locked in left lane by packed middle lane. We fly by in transition (right) lane with 14″ rotors and big ponies blazin.
I see that all the time when I visit my sister in Florida, who lives in Sarasota just off I-75, can zip along in the right lane and only need to move when by an on ramp.
