Here’s another insight into the way Xcrement works – to prevent those who do not pay for “free” speech (or whose speech isn’t liked) from ever acquiring any “reach.”
Take a look at the screenshot accompanying this article. You will see that – as of the other day – I have 177 followers on Xcrement. What’s interesting about that is I have had roughly the same number of followers for at least a year now. It will go up to perhaps 178. But then it goes back down to 175. It never goes above 178. Not for long, at any rate. Almost as soon as it upticks a a little, it wanes a little – and ends up back where it was.
Now, before you say people just aren’t wanting to follow me, consider the second screenshot:
You will note the numbers. The last couple of articles – links to the articles I posted on Xcrement – have double digit and even triple digit viewership numbers. I am regularly a guest on podcasts and radio shows that reach thousands, even tens of thousands. On every podcast I do, the host mentions my Xcrement account and requests that listeners Follow me. This is something that’s been happening for years.
Yet I have never been able to get more than 177 followers on Xcrement. Why is that? Is it credible that of the hundreds/thousands of people who see the things I post on X never more than two or three decide to Follow me? That, irrespective of the thousands/tens of thousands that hear the regular weekly radio shows and podcasts I have been doing for years, never more than 178 people ever Follow me on Xcrement?
I have noticed something else as well about Xcrement’s operation. As I have already mentioned in prior columns on this subject, I stopped doing anything more on X than posting links to my latest articles each morning a couple of months ago – because I’d gotten tired of playing Charlie trying to kick the football that Lucy always pulls away. Well, after I stopped doing more than just that, I stopped getting private messages from porn Bots as well as messages generally – which is suggestive to me as regards the latter because there is no question many of the links I post are being viewed by double and even triple digits yet I get almost no replies. Except every so often when all of a sudden I get several. That inconsistent pattern is incongruous given I am extremely consistent – in that I always post a couple new links to new articles every day.
It defies logic that responses to the regular – daily – posts are so erratic. I think Xcrement dangles the occasional bait of responses in the hope that people will take it – and engage more with the Bots on Xcrement, spend hours doomscrolling through the narrative propaganda and maybe even pay for “reach.”
But when you don’t play with the Bots, the Bots don’t talk back.
I offer all this up to make the case that Xcrement is the new Facebook – in the sense that both are to free speech what salt is to a snail. Both of them are – at the very least – data mining operations that are very much like the East German Stasi but with the interesting twist that Xcrement and Facebook are self-spying operations. People willingly – eagerly – provide their information to what they think are merely “social media” platforms that are collecting and analyzing the information people freely provide that is being used to monetize them and that will be used for worse than that when the time comes.
Here’s a good moment to mention something peripherally relevant about Xcrement. More finely, about its owner. The guy who was running DOGE – the Department of Government Efficiency. Remember DOGE? Remember what people were sold? Many bought into the scam that government was going to be made more “efficient.” There was a lot of hootin’ and hollerin’ at the sight – in those first few weeks – of what looked like government bureaucrats walking out of bureaucracies such as USAID. It looked like government was becoming more “efficient.” Never mind that what most of the people who voted for Trump voted for was to make government less expensive and intrusive.
Not more “efficient.” The trains running to the East during the late unpleasantness in Eastern Europe were also very “efficient.”
Anyhow, DOGE is a dead duck. It no longer exists as an operative apparatus. Its “charter” has expired – and it has very quietly faded away, kind of like Trump clearly hoped the Epstein Matter would.
Xcrement works on the same principle. People were baited into believing that – when Elon bought what used to be Twitter and renamed it X – it was a place where people could speak freely. Except it wasn’t.
Except it isn’t.
Like everything else Musk touches, it’s a grift. Elon is said to be a very clever man and he obviously is. I wonder how long it will be before more people understand this.

Hi Eric,
Maybe I am not following, but why do you promote your Twitter account rather than this website? All you are doing is providing free advertising for Elon. The problem with social media is there is always going to be newer and fresher media channels. Remember Myspace? Facebook and Twitter are now being replaced by Instagram, Reddit, and Sub stack. I am sure there are newer ones then those.
What do we get? People trying to stay relevant by signing up for an account on every new social platform that carries a few thousand people. Most Americans data collection is spread far and wide. Of course, they refuse to see the significance of this because privacy is a lost art.
I don’t dispute that Twitter’s algorithm is disconnecting feeds and not showing your blogs to all available eyes, but maybe most Libertarians aren’t crazy about being on Twitter (and other social media) anyway.
Every time Eric talks about Twitter/X I roll my eyes.
It’s a private organization, there’s no free speech –guaranteed– by anything. The 1st Amendment just says the government cannot prevent you saying anything. There’s nothing that says you have to be provided a platform or that anyone has to give you anything.
Elon can hiss any lie he wants but he, like all companies, will ultimately win in a court if they censor you. When it’s a private soapbox they can set the rules on what can get said and who can say it.
The Freedom to Associate is implicit with the Freedom to Disassociate. Which means originalist construction that prejudice should be illegal. It’s been twisted into the government telling individuals and business what to do. That’s the slippery slope of fascism and authoritarianism, the tables being flipped to use the Constitution to handcuff The People rather than the the government as was intended.
So he is falling for the trap of allowing the usurpers to dictate the language and rules of argument and forwarding a logical fallacy. If Eric was principled he would either accept the rules X states or leave the platform. He wants it both ways, exercise his freedom while simultaneously using legal (e.g. exercise 3rd party aggression) force telling Elon how to run his platform.
It’s the same logic that health care is “free”, which would imply a doctor is forced to do something, namely give you a service at a price the market for goods and prices didn’t arrive at without coercion.
Or if you’re opposed to taxation and theft but still file a return, accept grants and subsidies from the government. You are a hypocrite. Arguing that it’s pragmatic just prolongs the slavery. You can’t have just a little bit of theft. Give an inch, get a yard. Nothing will be solved if you get dragged into a compromised, unprincipled starting position.
Hi truth,
I think you misunderstand me. I do not argue – and never have argued – that Xcrement ought to be forced to be a free speech platform. Elon can do whatever he likes with his property, as far as I am concerned. My point is he’s a fraud. He lies about what Xcrement is – and that is why Xcrement is shit.
Yet you keep going back expecting something to change. Yes, we know, it’s a steaming pile of statist bull. The reason you get no apparent traction is anyone who bothers with X and cares is already following you. That’s not going to change. There’s some users on X who fairly effectively game the algo to get significant eyeballs. I follow a few of them as well, such as el gato malo for one. The measure of effect isn’t in the cooked metrics they report but retweets, replies, blocks. If someone blocks you then you know they and their followers/commentors at least saw your post. Social media is one front in the psyop war, so you have to understand how to use it. What is definite is that you cannot accept anything about it at face value. Posting a link here and there thinking the algorithm is going to ever trtip up or favor you is just a waste of time.
Hi Truth,
The only thing I hope to change is some people’s minds! Xcrement presents itself as a “free speech” outlet. It isn’t. I like to point that out.
Hi RG,
I write these dissections purely for that purpose; i.e., to cut away the BS Elon propagates. I do not like the man because I do not like con men. So why do I still post links to my articles on Xcrement? Well, why not? I use public bathrooms, too!
It’s not very different than pre Musk. I get shadow bans a lot because although we’ve can now turn the proverbial spigot all the way on, it’s still has that annoying restrictor/ governor that doesnt allow full flow. Because of this article, I just looked to see who I follow and you were not there, I had to hit the follow button again. This happened before, but I thought I did something wrong. So, you’re not crazy and neither am I (at least not for that reason).
Shitter became Xcrement after the rocket and battery grifter bought it. Duh.
I would follow you on Xcrement but I dont have an account. I dont have a shoot-me-in-the-facebook accout either. Guess what other accounts I dont have? I dont do social media. I also no longer watch netflix or paramount or any streaming service.
I am tired of content creators. Make music, make art, make something besides dumb commentary on jew tube. That said, I do enjoy a particular lawyer’s channel as he is straight up common sense in his commentary.
When I die, within a couple of generations, no one will ever know I existed. And that is a great thing. When I was young, I wanted to be famous, glad I did not get what I wanted.
The people I know on social media are mostly on Instagram and young. Young people who don’t have kids yet so have time to post daily selfies and have been programmed by the Kardashian/social media influencers to believe they too can be celebrities just because they exist. This has spurred lives filled with instagram worthy life events and multi event weddings (proposal/engagement/bridal gown shopping/photos/multiple showers/bachelorette parties/pre party/wedding/after party/post wedding brunch because they saw influencers doing it that and posting on social media. Each life event becomes a social media story starring them.
The original model for social media was about wasting people’s time. Then it became data harvesting, even though the data is basically worthless. But like farming, a single corn stalk is pretty much worthless. Billions of corn stalks are worth something.
Social media was ALWAYS about data collection. From day one. Maybe the best you can say is some of it is just about commercializing the data.
Search engines, too. They started as utility in the Archie/W3Catalog/Infoseek/Lycos/Altavista days when BackRub/Google stepped into the space the snooping and storing was in place.
DARPANET was fairly neutral but anything In-Q-Tel touches is about something other than it appears.
I can’t remember the last time I logged onto Twatter/X…
When I did a search for “Eric Peters”, I only saw your old twitter. That may be a big part of the issue.
