Well, the selection in Israel is over but it is still unknown – so they tell us – which genocidal maniac was selected. This business of selection results taking days – weeks, sometimes – to be ascertained is an interesting modern phenomena.
The first time it happened that I can recall was back in 2000, when (eventually) The Chimp was selected rather than Al Gore. There were days of parsing what they called “hanging chads” in Florida, which they told us were the fulcrum that would determine which of the two was ultimately officially selected.
“Hanging chads” sounds like a great name for a gay porn video.
Of course, it is always a selection – one that we don’t get to make. It is a selection made by Inner Party (to borrow from Orwell) apparatchiks, who then present their selection to the Outer Party. Examples that come to mind are the selection of Kamala Harris and – more recently – the sister of “Lady Bugs” Graham in South Carolina. After they are selected, the Proles (again from Orwell, the general electorate) are permitted the opportunity to select either of the two selections already made for them. There is no option to select None of the Above, because that would risk a real selection. The selectors have got to have a veneer of legitimacy, which they get via the illusion of choice (a thing that is very different than selecting from pre-selected alternatives, both of them fundamentally the same).
It seems the selectors have come up with a new way to burnish the veneer. It is to drag the results of the selection out for days or weeks and sometimes, months. This creates high drama, for openers. It keeps the rubes on the edge of their seats, wondering whether it will be Tweedledee or Tweedledum. It’s something akin to Sportsball and the way some people invest (and dissipate) emotional energy sufficient to power a small town were it converted into useful energy on 4th and ten or (more aptly) will it go into overtime? Well, who cares whether it does? How does the outcome benefit you – the fan? Yet some fans exult and some fall into depression depending on which team wins.
Selections are based on the same model.ย Whip up the crowd; get ’em hollering! It causes them to ascribe meaning to this show.
There is another useful result of keeping ’em on the edge of their seats. It is to keep ’em believing Their Vote Matters. The selection hangs in the balance! It could be decided by Just One Vote! Naturally, this motivates the rubes to keep on voting; after all, it might be their vote that decides the selection! This is as silly as writing a letter to Santa Claus (hat tip to one of my readers, who came up with this bitter but accurate way of understanding what selections are all about).
There is also Mark Twain’s quip that if elections mattered, they would not be allowed. Hence the italicized word. An election would center on a real choice – including None of the Above. A selection centers on which of the two of the same “wins.” Does it matter whether “Bibi” or his putative opponent is selected? Only in the sense that things will remain the same, just with – possibly – a different face. The same here, in the wake of the pending midterm selections. It is likely some Inner Party apparatchiks will be replaced by other Inner Party apparatchiks.
It is certain None of the Above will not be selected.
Whats likely is that the selection in Israel is a kind of deliberately contrived holding pattern, to give “Bibi” the time he needs to wait for the outcome of the midterm selections here. The “chatter” – to term used to describe the predictive programming narratives they feed us via the organs – is that a massive post-selection escalation of the war against Iran is being prepared. Probably because both “Bibi” and his viceroy are feeling edgy about the obviously dawning realization among the proles that Voting Harder is something even sillier than writing letters to Santa Claus.

The “veneer of legitimacy” is long gone, dead. Voting and government, wars, medicine, education, organized religion , law, all appear as illegitimate now which means it will happen to $. When people grok that the paper in their pockets and digits in their accounts are fictions backed by nothing, it’s Weimar time all over again. Wallpaper and ass wipes.
‘The Tuesday next after the 1st Monday in November, in every even numbered year, is established as the day for the election, in each of the States and Territories of the United States, of Representatives and Delegates to the Congress commencing on the 3d day of January next thereafter.’ — 2 U.S. Code ยง 7
Federal law is perfectly clear that election ‘day’ is a 24-hour snapshot in time, not an event spread over weeks and months.
This is sound policy, because facts change over time. To take a real-life example, the New York Post published the Hunter Biden laptop story on October 14, 2020. Had 51 ‘intel community’ experts not lied by labeling it as Russian tradecraft, it might have changed the 2020 election. But those who voted before October 14 could not react to it.
Absentee voting by mail once was de minimis, and by permission. It didn’t take long to open and count those votes. But mail-in voting took absentee voting mainstream. Since those paper votes can’t be opened until election ‘day,’ it can take weeks to count them in backward districts such as communist California and democratic-socialist Maricopa County.
Early voting is scientifically flawed, illegal and wrong. It creates a window for post-election goal seeking and ballot stuffing. Early voting is one more reason to refuse participation in a system that is openly corrupt and illicit.
It’s all just fun and games, Eric.
For the ones who dont get their kicks from sports, there’s whining about politics.
from the moment humans lived in groups, we have always been owned. Not going to change, being owned is impregnated into our dna. Even the owners are owned, by their own hubris, by their peers, and by the temporary nature of life. So what?
Elections are just part of the show. Pick your crazy- drinking, sports, gambling, reading, wood working, whatever floats your ego…yes, politics.
You cant make the world a better place for long, only in a temporary sense. Its those pesky untintended consequences, and the tendency for power to corrupt. “Lets end social security, its a bad deal for everyone” is it, for everyone? Seems pretty good for the SSA and associated contractors.
I know, I know, the myth that somehow America was a great experiment in a true try at repulicanism with freedom and justice for all, that myth just lives on, creating angst.
But its something to do. Myself, I am currently on a personal research project involving the public school system in America… fun stuff, but do I expect anything to change for what I believe is the best way to educate the kiddies? Nope. why would I expect others to do what I think is best? Well, unless I work to become an owner.
Free thinking, does it lead to a happier life? Probably not. Ignorance actually is bliss. I was alot less depressed not knowing about what happens down on the farm at ‘ole camp X-ray..surely my government would never torture people? Huh. Well…now that I know, am I any happier for the knowledge? Not really. Just not surprised.
Live life on an individual basis. Forget groups, movements, parties, mass political movements…bowel movements are much more worthy of your time, I always give gratitude for mine. If an election goes against you, meh, whatever. If you cant take a crap for a day or two…then you got real problems.
Well-said, Andy!
For myself, interests and hobbies give purpose and satisfaction. A finished project is elevating! Learning how to do things, the same. Friends and fanily; the people you chose to associate with.
