Trump – in the role of Charlie Brown – keeps trying to kick the football, which takes the form of a “deal” with the Iranians. Who aren’t actually playing the role of Lucy because – apparently – they’re not the ones holding the football.
Trump seems to be.
He says the U.S. has “ended the war.” But what does that mean? The Iranians say that “nothing has been finalized” and that reports of a supposed “settlement” are “speculative,” in the words Esmail Baghael, on behalf of Iran’s Foreign Ministry. How can there be a “deal” when one side is not – apparently – a party to it?
It is a weird and wondrous thing. Also a repetitive thing – in that this is – what’s the count? – yet another instance of Trump claiming the war is over or nearly over; that a “deal” is all-but-done. Maybe it is, this time. Maybe Charlie Brown will get to kick the football at last. It would be nice were that to happen and not only because this war serves no discernible American interest and has caused death and mayhem, which is always immoral when unjustified. But how likely is it that the Iranians will agree to a “deal” that amounts to a capitulation? Trump’s demands are analogous to the unconditional surrender demanded of Germany by the United States toward the end of WW II, with the difference being the Germans were beaten. Their military and their economy were in ruins; allied troops had physically conquered most of Germany. The Germans had lost the power to effectively resist. They had no real choice but to surrender unconditionally and hope the allies would be merciful.
Iran does not appear to be in this position. There are no American troops in Tehran. Tehran appears to be perfectly capable of hitting back when it is hit. It still controls passage through the Strait of Hormuz, which means it still controls the flow of a large part of the world’s supply of petroleum and other vital materials. Why would the Iranians agree to surrender those advantages? Why – above all of that – would the Iranians budge an inch on the issue of nuclear capabilities? If this war has taught the Iranians anything, it is that Israel – and so, effectively, the United States – will never abide a truly sovereign Iran. Meaning, an Iran that has the capability to meaningfully defend itself against Israel and the United States. A nuclear deterrent is the only thing that (so far) deters the regime-changers in Washington and Tel Aviv. Giving up that capability would be something like agreeing to disarm yourself before venturing into a neighborhood controlled by armed thugs. Something worse, actually – because in this case the thugs do not restrict themselves to their neighborhood.
There is a rumor afoot which may or may not be true that there was a phone conversation between an Iranian official and a Pakistani official who acts as an intermediary between Iran and the United States about the situation and that this phone call was contrived so as to be deliberately overheard. In the course of the conversation, it was let slip that Iran would – if things do note abate in its favor – detonate a nuclear weapon on its own territory (i..e, an underground test) to demonstrate that it has the capability to meaningfully defend itsef. Perhaps that is why Trump now says a “deal” is all but done (again) and this time, maybe so.
Maybe he knows the war is no longer winnable. But if that is the case, will he modify his demands such that the Iranians can accept them? More to the point, will the Israelis (this includes the ones “serving” in the U.S. government) accept them? That seems doubtful, not because this would be reasonable – and Israel (and so, the United States) is an unreasonable gaggle of zero-sum-game fanatics who have to win, as they define winning. Which entails Iran losing, bigly. An unbroken Iran means a loss for Israel (and by dint of that, the Israelites who run the United States). It means checkmate. An end to the Greater Israel project as well as the “status” of the United States as the rottweiller of the Israelis that can be sicced on anyone the Israelis say “threatens” Israel – which is to say, any state that isn’t broken by Israel and the Israelis who control the government of the United States.
It is hard to see such a “deal” actually happening – unless Trump (and Israel) have threatened to use nuclear weapons first, which is a possibility. The Iranians might agree to a “deal” if the alternative is immolation. Then again, is immolation a worse alternative than castration?
We’ll soon see which of the two it is. Maybe it will be neither. And the war will keep on keeping on.

Assuming the sort of God Christians believe in exists, He could presumably have created as many planets with life, either primitive or advanced, as He pleased. and would have been under no obligation to us to inform us about them.
If they exist, then they are either good or bad, or mixed good and evil, fallen (like we are) or unfallen, like the good angels.
If they are *not* unfallen, and are *at least* as bad as we are, why should we take anything they say as gospel truth?
The Bible *does* have a good deal to say about other intelligent beings such as angels and demons and creatures hard to characterize. We’ve always know about them, and known it was needful to “test the spirits,” to see if they are of God, or not.
I have no opinion about whether there is or is not any other *biological* life, intelligent or otherwise, in the cosmos. I just don’t have enough evidence one way or the other. To me a universe with other intelligent life would be more interesting than one without. But my wishes don’t make it so.
And I just don’t see what theological significance it has. No Christian doctrine or dogma I know of depends in any way on a belief that we *are* alone in the universe — that is, that we are the only biological life form that has attained some degree of advancement.
And like I said, we already knew about angels and demons and other things hard to name or characterize.
The Holy Bible is not holy, not history, not science, not reality – it is a primitive Bronze Age myth written by a prejudicial tribe who created a god in their own image. The angry god of the Bible is the angry Jew casting his own malevolence onto deity.

Though I try to avoid debating religion, which I consider to be (ideally) a private matter, I will say that I find the Bible unpersuasive. I have many reasons for holding that view, but here’s one: Jesus (according to the Bible’s text) makes the statement to his followers that some of them will live to see the “kingdom” of God arriving, with the dead rising from their graves and everyone to be judged by God (who is also, somehow, Jesus). Well, those dudes are long dead and the “kingdom” never came. In other words, what Jesus said is not true. In other words, Jesus lied (or was a delusional maniac who actually did believe what he said). Regardless, the fact is what Jesus said was going to happen did not happen. Ergo, the Bible is not inerrant.
Also, I don’t see how it is possible to reconcile the Bible’s promise of eternal punishment for lack of belief with the assertion of a “loving” God. Belief cannot be chosen; it is a consequence of finding evidence compelling, which then automatically engenders belief. I believe the sun exists, because the evidence it does strikes me as compelling. I could not disbelieve in the existence of the sun, given the evidence, even if someone put a gun to my head. I might say the words – to try to save my life – but my belief would remain the same.
I do not believe in the Tooth Fairy because the evidence isn’t compelling. Just as I do not believe that Jesus was (is) the son of God. Or even that there is a God. Maybe there is. I do not discount the possibility. But absent compelling evidence – evidence I (not some other person) find compelling (this is important) – how can I believe? And how can it be right to punish a person for not believing in something that he does not regard to be true, based on the evidence and the judgment of his mind? I have had Christians tell me I refuse to believe. The there is “evidence” sufficient to belief. Not so. Or at least, not for me. If Jesus were to show himself (as he supposedly did, post crucifixion, because he wanted his followers to see he had “risen”) or some comparable evidence of his actuality were to manifest, I would not refuse to believe. But he does not show himself. So the expectation seems to be I must believe what it says in a book. This reeks of (forgive me) bullshit. And worse.
Yet the dogma is that those who do not believe deserve to be punished. I regard that as vicious. I also don’t like genocide, including the genociding of babies and children. Or slavery. Or rape.

Almost every belief system has some sort of code of conduct when dealing with others, mostly good. Helping the stranger is almost universal (except for judaism).

Every world religion is a conduit that helps temporal humans to (attempt to) understand spiritual concepts, realizing that we are a part of something much greater than ourselves.

I personally am agnostic. I have no religious beliefs whatsoever, though I was raised very strict Presbyterian. I *do* “believe” in what you might call the “Holy Spirit,” or “Divine Spark,” because I can observe first hand that humans are smarter than dogs.
Intelligent “belief” is based on observation, not blind faith. “God” is not going to suspend the laws of the universe and fix my carburetor just because I “pray” for it. If you believe that, you will be walking to church a lot.
Actually, the Bible IS a history book. That is, by matter of fact, ALL it is. It was never supposed to be a “religion”, but was always in its most pure form a white racial ideology.
Most clergy can’t point to the Biblical summary verse, which explains just what the Bible IS in a single verse. Most of them simply don’t know the Bible that well.
What the Bible is actually about, is found in Genesis 5:1, where it states, quite plainly: “This is the book of the genealogy of Adam. In the day that God created man, He made him in the likeness of God.”
Adam means man, but more precisely, it means WHITE men. It’s not a “religion”, it’s the story of the creation of the white race on earth, beginning with Adam, and culminating in Jesus Christ. It was (and is) purely about race. This is why you find passages like Genesis 6:9, where it states “These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.”
Where it states “Noah was…perfect in his generations”, that means he was RACIALLY PURE. As in, not a race mixed half-breed. God hates race mixing.
