  1. Just a rant…

When did it become standard for tradesmen to expect tips? I feel like I live in Bizarro World. The husband got a quote for installing insulation in our shop. Sales guy came out, sent a quote the next day, and he approved it. He goes online to make the deposit to get started…the company asks if he wants to leave a gratuity for the staff. One, the staff has done absolutely nothing except provide us a quote. Two, the contract is not cheap. The suggested “tip” would be well into the four digits.

Maybe it is me, but these companies have lost their blasted minds.

    • Only if they do me a special favor do I tip.

In July I had a shed installed in the back yard, which slopes. Tuff Shed made clear that they don’t dig in the ground, nor will they level more than a foot of slope. All good, except I made one error: assuming that the shed door was centered, when in fact it’s offset to one side. The two-man crew pointed out that where I’d staked the corners, the door would hit a tree before it opened all the way.

They were kind enough to wait half an hour while I excavated another couple of feet of ground, to move the shed foundation sidewise away from the tree — no complaints, no pressure. I tipped them a hundred dollars when they left, for the cooperation. Probably they appreciated that I am a ‘hands-on’ customer, not one to just dump a problem in their lap.

  2. ‘That’s what we are — a declining empire.’ — Jason Barker

Eighty years after the little haberdasher Harry Truman forgot to demobilize from WW II — and gave us the unconstitutional national security state — the US is $40 trillion in debt, and once again getting its ass thumped in a useless foreign war, treasonously undertaken for a hostile foreign state.

America’s military empire does not pay for itself in plunder. It is a massive deadweight drain on the economy. Why doesn’t somebody shut the sucker down, withdraw from useless NATO, and bring our Hessian troops home?

Eric’s Coliseum metaphor shows why. To this day, military and sportsball glory are what motivate the dim intellects that drift into politics, and the mindless Chudleys who elect them. The mighty US military is marching its way into bankruptcy.

Donnie Fubar, a wrestling aficionado, just sent out ninety-dollah checks to twenty million Medicare beneficiaries — even though Medicare’s Hospital Insurance (Part A) Trust Fund will be exhausted by 2033. He is mentally incapacitated and brain dead.

We are governed by pig-ignorant flakes and screwballs, who will tout the sizzle not the substance till the lights go out for good on America’s sadistic, value-subtraction empire of dust. Let it bleed.

    • I am a believer that our children would learn more if we continuously played George Carlin clips in today’s public schools.

I don’t know what is going to come of the USSA, but the “leaders” don’t even try to hide that they are psychopaths. Of course, history is full of evil doers and yet civilization continues to survive.
