They really mean control.

It’s an old – and ought to be obvious con. It also ought to raise a question. When did our “safety” become the legitimate business of the government? The Constitution isn’t a Day Care code of conduct; we’re supposed to be free adults – free to make choices for ourselves, including assumption of risk.

This idea that our saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaafety is the business of government amounts to an assertion of the legitimacy of being parented by the government; that is, by other people. And who are these people? An agglutination of strangers who think they are are mom and dad – except they aren’t preparing us for responsible adulthood but seeking to encapsulate us in perpetual childhood.

For the sake of control.

Theirs – over us.

To snatch a line from Herman Goring – the Reichsmarschall of the Greater German Reich – and turn it to more honorable ends:

Whenever I hear the word control, I release the safety catch on my Walther… .

  1. A company I worked for bought a “new” used truck. It was a Volvo, a pretty good truck, butt-ugly and not the best for construction work but pretty reliable and rode well. I had no problem with it but one day, because of oncoming traffic, I had to hit a big pothole and when I did, the airbag popped off the steering wheel. With it gone I couldn’t help but notice there were two wire with terminals that had obviously been unhooked from the bag. I got a chance to look it over and laid a piece of tape in between the ends making sure they’d never contact. I immediately felt better about it.

I mentioned it to the owner and then said “But we never spoke about it”. “What?” he said. Mighty fine.

  2. When George W. Bush made the comment that “[T]he most solemn duty of the American president is to protect the American people.” no one flinched. There in lies the problem, people actually think that is true.

It comes from generations of conditioning that started, for the most part, in the Progressive Era of the late 19th Century. That is when all manner of “protections” sprang up. Protection of “child labor”, protection from “robber barons”, the implementation of health codes and restrictions on medical care. When the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) was passed it was the arch-leftist Steny Hoyer of Maryland that said it best, “this is the culmination of over 100 years of effort by people like Teddy Roosevelt, FDR and LBJ”. The socialist/progressive mind-set is an equal opportunity employer. Republican or Democrat, it matters not. It’s the arrogance and hubris of people who marinate in their own “goodness”. They simply think they’re better than you and the fact that you don’t see their superior nature only confirms your inferior status in their minds.

What will change it? I’m not sure but, I can only hope and pray that the inevitable collapse is as bloodless as the fall of the Soviet Empire. However, I’m not holding my breath.
