The cost of a barrel of crude oil is now about $91 – a roughly $20 increase over the roughly one week so far of Trump’s decision to take us to war on behalf of Israel. More finely, on behalf of the Zionist state that deliberately chose the name “Israel” to conflate it with the people of the Bible, who are not the same people as “Bibi” Netanyahu and other Zionists, who hail from Eastern Europe.
At any rate, the cost of the war is going up daily – and Americans are paying for it at the pump. In most parts of the country, the cost of a gallon of regular is already well over $3 per gallon again and headed toward four.
Possibly twice that. The news this morning (Sunday) is that the the entities that control the U.S. or Israel (it amounts to the same thing) have bombed Iranian oil depots, which is likely to result in the Iranians bombing Saudi and other close-by oil depots and related facilities. This plus the cost of shipping oil through the now dangerous Strait of Hormuz is likely going to drive the cost of oil to more than $100 per barrel by next week.
Diesel is already up to $5 per gallon in many areas.
This will, in turn, trigger a general increase in the cost of pretty much everything else, since the cost of diesel greatly affects the cost of everything else because almost everything is transported by heavy trucks and trains that burn diesel.
One of the things Trump leveraged to get re-elected was Americans’ worries about being impoverished by the hidden tax people call “inflation,” which is the watering down of the buying power of money. This happens when more dollars are conjured into existence, either by printing them or digitizing them and then pumping them into the economy. It is worth mentioning that Trump did just that; i.e., he handed out Goy Slop “stimulus” checks to the fools, as their consolation prize for the destruction of their livelihoods engineered by “COVID.” It wasn’t much – just $1,200 for most people – but it was sufficient to engender a spike in the number of dollars needed to buy things by introducing more dollars to chase after those things. This is what fiat currency does and it’s why Trump and his banker backers love it so much. It enables the rich to get richer while the poor mostly fail to see why they are getting poorer.
The War Tax is at least more obvious and there is goodness in that. Everyone can see what this war is costing them on a daily basis. The tank of gas that cost $35 a couple of days ago now costs closer to $40.
What will happen when it costs $50?
How about $100?
That’s not necessarily hyperbolic. The current rate of increase has no recent precedent. “Oil surges 35 percent this week for the biggest gain in futures trading history dating back to 1983,” notes one news story.
And that was last week.
Qatar’s energy minister, Saad al-Kaabi, told The Financial Times on Friday that crude prices could reach $150 per barrel in the coming weeks if oil tankers were unable to pass through the Strait.
Meanwhile, Trump has declared that Iran must “unconditionally surrender,” which the Iranians correctly understand to mean they must agree to cease to exist as an independent nation. The fool in charge just gave the Iranians an existential reason to fight harder. It is almost as if the man wants to destroy America – and possibly, the world.

Not a chance, other than a short blip. Shale oil is mostly throttled now because below about $80 it’s hard to justify. Yes, the hole is a sunk cost, but just like the gas station posts prices based on what they are going to have to pay for tomorrow’s delivery, oil producers have to do that, too. It’s not this well, it’s what it will cost them to sink the next.
I suspect China is defecating masonry right about now. Venezuelan oil is off the table, Russia and Indonesia can’t make it all up, so if Iran does something drastic, China won’t have much of an option but to come hat in hand to the US.

This weekend oil refineries and storage became the target of choice, Tehran is an apocalyptic scene, Israel hit oil storage, turned the sky black, it is literally raining oil. Iran has destroyed Haifa. Saudi refineries are shut down. The dire Straits of Hormuz shut down.
This is catastrophic for everyone, and the stock market is only starting to react to the new reality.

A few months ago I would have agreed with you as I dismissed the Iranian nuclear program as propaganda. Not having studied the situation, I was unaware of the missile build up. And I also dismissed the “sponsor of terrorism” propaganda. But Iran was supporting the armed groups fighting with Israel. Call it what you will, but this is aggression when anybody does it.

Most of the Gulf states are tired of fighting about religion. Heck, even the Saudis, the birthplace of Wahabbism, are taking a hard stance against the fundies. They would prefer engaging with the West. That’s why Iran is attacking so many of them. It is becoming increasingly isolated.
I’ve read elsewhere that with gulf shipping bottled up, oil storage facilities will be full within two weeks, and then pumping will have to stop. Once you do this, it takes weeks and months to get them back up and pumping again.
Practical short term advice: fill every container you can with fuel, and get food seeds for your garden. Because we may well be seeing $10 gas and $15 diesel. And planting starts on the farm in a few weeks, so $15 diesel makes for expensive and scarce potatoes, corn, everything.
This attack on Iran is very ill timed. Had it been done before they had accumulated 80000 or so offensive missiles it would have been better.

Bombing civilian infrastructure such as desalinization plants is a clear-cut war crime. Rather than denying it, Trump replies with lurid ‘fake news’ claims about babies beheaded by Hamas.
