Well, what’s next? Trump has lost his stupid, evil war against Iran – which he launched on behalf of the state of Israel, whose indicted war criminal leader egged him on to start it.
Iran says it will not open the Strait until the U.S. “corrects” its behavior, by which is meant it reimburses Iran for the damage done, remove itself from the proxy states it has used to attack Iran and generally mind its own business. These are reasonable demands, especially given Iran is in a position to make them. Will Trump accept them? Given Trump’s track record of refusing to accept when he’s lost, it’s not likely. Even though he could do as his mentor – Roy Cohn – counseled and declare he won. The Iranians probably wouldn’t care because why would they? So long as Trump accepts that the Iranians have won – which means accepting that the Strait is now under Iranian control. Let the oil flow – and just shut up about it. That would be good for America – and for Trump. If the war actually ends – with peace – then Trump will no longer have to defend this stupid, evil war. Gas prices will stabilize. Things would get better.
That’s why they probably won’t.
So what’s next? The ground invasion thing is unlikely, if only because it would take months to assemble the necessary army in the vicinity. As unpopular as Trump is now, you can imagine how unpopular he’d be if tens of thousands of American troops were headed to the Middle East to fight for Israel. The bombing – with conventional bombs – hasn’t worked, so it’s not likely to work if he tries it again. That leaves the bomb. Would he use it? It’s a silly question. Of course he would. If Trump thinks this is the way to win, he will try to win this way. It has already been framed this way, by his handler. Netanyahu insists that Iran possessing a nuclear weapon – just one! – constitutes an existential threat. To Israel; he does not say that part. He also does not say that the “existential threat” is Iran possessing an effective deterrent to ward off Israeli attacks. At any rate, if one accepts the oy’ing and vey’ing that Iran cannot be allowed to possess a nuclear weapon, it follows that Iran must be prevented from making one.
Well, how to do that, given that (apparently) conventional bombing and everything else that’s been thrown at the Iranians hasn’t gotten the (supposed) job done. Supposed because it’s unknown whether the Iranians have the bomb and Trump said just a couple of months ago that their ability to develop one was destroyed by all those other bombs. Netanyahu – his name sounds like a goat bleating – has been warning that the Iranians are on the cusp of developing a bomb for the past 30 years now.
Whether they have is irrelevant. It is the assertion that provides the justification. Note that this way of justifying things saturates what used to be the way of doing things. It used to be that facts provided justification. In particular, facts regarding who actually did a thing. It wasn’t enough to say someone – or a state – might do a thing. The thing had to have been actually done before a thing was done in response. Then along came Nahhhhhhhhnnnnnleeevven and everything changed. The Chimp lisped about “mushrooms clouds” and “weapons of mass destruction” and off America went to war against a country that had nothing to do with Nahhhhhhhhnnnnnleeevven but that had everything to do with Israel (again).
America fought and won that war on behalf of Israel. The war on Iran has been lost and that is an intolerable thing for the state of Israel and that is why the odds are high the bomb will be used. It is likely the U.S. will drop it, too – because it would look even worse if Israel (which has hundreds of bombs) used them. In the end, it really doesn’t matter which one because everyone understands it is the same one.
Aside: The Chinese have played their hand brilliantly. When faced with oil shortages as a result of Trump’s stupid, evil war for Israel, the Chinese curtailed domestic use as well as exporting of oil. They fell back on their electrical grid, which is vast because they have not bought into the “climate change” crap. Instead, they bought our coal-and-oil-fired generating equipment and built more of their own. China can support a fleet of EVs. Americans can’t afford the gas they need to fill their tanks.

Trump then responded to the Iranian denial by threating to unleash hellfire in his usual fashion, replete with obscenities and threats of obliteration for the Persian people in a holocaust more devastating than World War 2.
Some observers have noted that Trump’s threats of annihilation are clearly unachievable in practical terms given the rundown of US munitions stocks and the difficulty in manufacturing replacements due to Chinese refusal to sell exotic metals to the Americans and the loss of Saudi and Emirate refineries that produced high grade aluminum for fuselages of warplanes.
So if Trump really seeks to act out his schoolboy fantasies of death and destruction he will have to go nuclear.
It is ironic that he has based the war against Iran on his oft repeated stated intention to prevent Iranian development of a nuclear weapon, a program which US intelligence has insisted does not exist. Only the US both possesses and has used nukes to kill civilians and that was in 1945.
Given all the mixed signals coming out of Washington, it is perhaps unnecessary to point out that a war that was pointless and unnecessary in the first place is still sputtering along with Israel and its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pushing for its expansion from the sidelines using lies crafted to convince a clueless Trump.

I have mentioned before that back when I worked at The Washington Times in the ’90s – well before Nahhhhhhnnnnlevven – I used to see these faxes coming in to the editorial office from Bill Kristol and PNAC. Ritter was busted (twice, if I remember correctly) for communicating with a cop posing as a legally-underage girl, for the purpose of arranging a sexual tryst. I haven’t seen or read anything about child porn on his computer. Recall that ‘child porn’ today constitutes a female psychologist or other expert declaring that a girl appears to be under the age of 18, long past the accepted marriageable age for both males and females throughout history and in many countries today.

If this is truly the end of the war for the U.S., one could make the case that it’s “mission accomplished” for Trump. The Strait of Hormuz was toll-free before the war; now there will be a transiting fee of between 5-7% of cargo value. That means higher costs for consumers ahead. Remember when he said, “I love inflation”? Well, he’s doing his part to raise living costs once again, so from that aspect, he’s succeeded.
