The Peddlering Of Beck

It’s too bad there’s not more talk on “conservative” radio.

Instead, there’s endless – that’s how it comes across – peddlering; i.e., 15 minutes straight of “plugs” interrupted by 10 minutes of talk. Some of this is understandable in that plugs pay the bills. But there comes a point when the plugs so dominate the talk that it becomes increasingly difficult to listen to any of it.

Often, it is quite literally impossible – because the plugs take so much time that by the time you get to where you were headed (most people listen to talk radio in their cars, while driving someplace) there’s no more time to listen because you’re already there. I’ve had whole trips from my house to downtown – a trip of some 30 miles – go by with almost nothing but plugs emanating from the speakers, punctuated by teasers about what you’ll hear if you stay tuned through all the plugs.

I turn it all off – because it’s a big turn-off, especially because the plugs are no longer even slightly clever and are often plugs for an agenda rather than some product or service I don’t need or want.

Bad enough.

Worse – or rather, incomprehensible – is when the plugs are read by the host, thereby turning him from a host into a peddler.

Glenn Beck is especially guilty of this serial peddlering but it’s become standard operating procedure on “conservative” talk radio. Hannity does it and so do other “conservative” millionaire radio hosts who do not need to do it. These hosts aren’t poor and more to the point, they have the resources (and the following) to not have to do it (and could easily refuse to do it).

Beck, for instance, could say: Look, I’m a radio host. I’m not a peddler. Ads are fine, but let someone else read them. Let the company that wants to peddle whatever it is they’re selling hire a guy to read the script but leave me out of it. Beck could definitely do this as he runs his own show. Regardless, he’s famous and has a big following. That is enough to draw advertisers to his show, if he needs the advertising dollars to underwrite his show. But he personally peddles – as Hannity does, as Clay and Travis do, as Wilkow does – which none of them have to and yet they do anyhow.

Rogan doesn’t – proving it’s not necessary to do it, if you have an audience. Indeed, part of the reason Rogan’s audience is so huge is almost certainly because he’s not constantly trying to sell you things because he’s paid to try to sell you things. And he’s still a millionaire.

But he’s not as relentlessly mercenary as the “conservatives” on talk radio and for that reason comes off as far more honest and real and so more appealing.

Beck and Hannity comes across as peddlers – because they are.

And because they do not need to be.

And yet, they are.

It says a lot about “conservative” talk radio. More finely, it says a lot about what “conservative” talk radio is really about, which is the making of money. Not that there is the slightest thing wrong with making money. But we are not talking about electricians or doctors or anyone else who offers a service (or a product) for sale. Beck and the others are supposedly in the business of conveying ideas. There is selling involved in this, but not of the mercenary variety. The “sale” hinges to a great extent upon whether the person listening or reading believes the speaker or writer is an honest broker of ideas and being an incessant peddler undermines that.

To understand the distinction, let’s go back to the pre-Internet newspaper days. In those days, advertising was strictly separate from editorializing. As you were reading an op-ed in say the Wall Street Journal, you did not abruptly find yourself reading a plug for Rough Green dog treats. Ads were kept physically separate from the copy – and any op-ed writer or reporter who included a plug in his copy would not be writing much copy after that.

These are deadly serious times. Such times are not the time to peddler dog treats, timeshare relief or help with your IRS problems. People who convey ideas have to make a living, of course. But they do not have to be multi-millionaires to do it. That is their choice, of course – and they have every right to make it.

My point – if Beck and the rest are reading this – is that incessant personal peddlering undermines the standing of the person attempting (ostensibly) to convey ideas contrary to the ones that have been eating away at the foundations of this country like a horde of termites for lo the last 50 years, at least.

I understand needing to pay the bills. I do not understand why it is necessary to incessantly, personally peddle at least half as much as you talk.

Cue the uh-oh-ah-uh bumpers Beck always plays in between his peddling.

  1. All so true, Eric – & the comments, too.
The ads I hate the most are the ones that are outright propaganda and lies like for help solving IRS problems.
A friend who is a criminal defense attorney specializing in income tax cases said that this is a good explanation: https://tinyurl.com/TaxUSA.
The site linked at the end of this slide show offers $10k for any factual correction.

  2. The main problem I have with all this “peddling” that makes certain people wealthy is that the transfer comes from the wallets of all of us so styled “Consumers” who have to pay the inflated costs of all the advertised products and services.
I cannot help but imagine how much less things would cost if there were not all these advertising charges built into the retail price of it all!! And to top it all off the additional receipts are then transferred to entities such as Disney, NFL, etc. who use this cash to further enrich themselves and promote all the WOKE agendas floating around.

  3. Haven’t listened to talk radio since Limbaugh took his first bribe. Haven’t listened to radio (music) since program content was reduced to five minutes, advertising expanded to fifteen minutes. Same for TV. Haven’t turned on a TV channel (intentionally) in thirty years. Everything on radio and especially TV are nothing but pure unadulterated propaganda peddling obscene life styles and other societal trash. Down to mostly three types of advertisements… pill poppin medical (see your doctor), lawyers wanting to sue somebody and car sales with sixty seconds of machine gun fast talking at the end of the commercial denying most everything the commercial advertised.

    • There is a new trend in peddling which the peddler inserts the advertisement within the product. I call them trickads. While listening to a program, all of a sudden, without notice during the monologue, they’re selling the latest satellite phone and many times the person being interviewed is involved.
There is a guy in Britain I used to listen to all the time,,, he now breaks into his monologue to peddle something useless. He is pretty good in that sometimes you never know when he started the advertisement until mentions the product.

  4. I remember back when news stories weren’t opinion pieces. They laid out the facts and let the reader decide. Now they’re full of garbage like “January 6 insurrection” “election lies” ‘baselesss conspiracy theory” “Russian dictator” etc etc. Not to mention stuff like babies in ovens as facts. Like if you just lay the facts out we’re too dumb to get what you’re really trying to say so you just say it. It’s gross. And total silence on Nordtream, any black crime, it’s endless. Soviet Russia had nothing on our MSM.

  5. ‘Glenn Beck is especially guilty of this serial peddlering.’ — eric

As of yesterday, ‘pandering’ would be a more pertinent charge:

‘Conservative [sic] radio host Glenn Beck revealed on his radio show Wednesday that he has written a letter to the Israeli government to ask to become a citizen of the country.

‘Beck, a devout Christian, said on his show that he wants to do more than simply offer words of support for the country. He is asking for citizenship, he said, so that he might offer “deeds” for the Jewish people, rather than simple words.

‘Beck then recited his letter, which said: “To Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the honorable officials at the state of Israel. In this moment, I have chosen to ask you for citizenship in the state of Israel.’

    https://tinyurl.com/4rkmtsfd

Beck, in other words, is a neocon, which is not at all the same thing as ‘conservative.’

Neocons are peddlers of an ‘America Last’ policy. They shill for a foreign country and foreign interventionism, at our expense.

    Traitor, begone!

    • beck should join the idf and put on a uniform. he should also forfeit his American citizenship as he has proven that his allegiance is not to the USA, but to that sh!tty little country in the middle east.

      • Like many Christian Zionists, the Mormon Beck thinks he will be received with open arms by Israel’s ruling ethnicity, just because of some hokey old 2,500-year-old rants in the Old Testament.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Israel virtually prohibits non-Jewish immigration, so as not to dilute the 80% Jewish majority.

‘My desire for dual citizenship does not stem from any expectation of gain but from a deep-rooted belief in standing with what is right and true,’ pleads the disloyal, vacillating Beck in cringing tones.

Sorry, dude: you can shill for Israel all you want on the airwaves, just like snake-handlin’ fundamentalist preachers do. But you are totally unwelcome, as a goyische steer, to become a citizen in an ethnic-exclusivist apartheid state. Better bring a handkerchief, if you flash your cross in Jerusalem, to wipe off the spittle.

    • I haven’t been able to listen to talk radio since the party started on October 7th. It’s nothing but the hosts prostrating themselves to a foreign entity over their own country.

      • Yah, noticed that on the A.M. radio, too, Copperhead

A bit surprisingly, at USAWatchdog, as well. …A bit.

Bloodthirsty, heartless, christians? I don’t get that.

      • Hi Copperhead,

Yup. The Israel uber alles stuff is as difficult to stomach as the “standing” with Ukraine stuff. And an aspect of this that’s interesting to me is that, unlike Ukraine, Israeli is perfectly capable of dealing with its own problems. It has a modern army, air force and nuclear weapons. But – apparently – that’s not enough.

        • War is good bidness and bidness is good.

Some American nut named Smudley Butler wrote a book about war and the racket that it is.

That is what is happening now, right here on earth, in real time.

          It’s a racket.

  7. The purpose of talk radio is to rile people up to send in checks. If they can get you to listen to other people wanting your money, so much the better for them.

All these talk swindlers are controlled opposition who have no intention of winning on any substance. They will be out of a job. I don’t think overturning Roe was supposed to happen, and since it did, look at the election results. Not what the swindlers wanted.

  8. What radio was like when actual skilled humans curated the playlist and ad libbed the patter, on the fly:

‘When I began doing radio in 1967, I used to believe that what I did existed “in the moment” — I did it, you either heard it or not, but once done it was gone. The air signal went out into space where it would exist forever, floating in the audio waves of eternity. I still believe this is true.

And who knows? Maybe someday some intelligent life-form from a distant planet in another galaxy will “tune in” to some long-ago edition of Idiot’s Delight — maybe a show from 1969 with Townes Van Zandt … or the one I did with Yoko Ono or Leonard Cohen or Wim Wenders … or the night Rosanne Cash harmonized “Seven Year Ache” with Gary Louris and Golden Smog … or Keb’ Mo’ sang “America The Beautiful” a la Ray Charles … or June Carter Cash talked about her days studying with James Dean at The Actors Studio … or I introduced Joey Ramone to Lucinda Williams … or Allen Ginsberg and Phillip Glass played songs from their Hydrogen Jukebox … or maybe the night I first told the story about peeing next to Jimi Hendrix in the bathroom at The Scene and Jimi blessed me with his holy member … or maybe just some hour-long set of musical surrealism on a night when the Radio Muse was whispering all the right words over my shoulder — and that distant extraterrestrial listener from some unimaginable future or past planet will be overwhelmed and astounded and will say, Ah … so THIS is what life was like on that beautiful blue planet. — Vin Scelsa, WFUV New York, May 2, 2015

    Goodbye, Vin. Goodbye, New York.

    • Morning, Jim –

Mournful, beautiful stuff. I feel the same when I think about what was New York City – and America. I knew both. They exist now in my memory and those of others who remember. Sic gloria transit mundi.

  9. Oh man, it would have been so hilarious if you would have inserted a shameless Valentine plug in the copy somewhere in this article! Missed comedic opportunity!

  10. Even the laye “Maha Rushdie” became insufferable and not worth listening to when more of his live mic was spent pitching Snapple and Carbonite than program content.

  11. If it wasn’t for Brave, YouTube would be unwatchable. So many ads!! And I thought over the air TV was bad.

I send them “feedback” often about the extreme number of ads, they never respond in any way.

    • I use the YT app, it works well and gives me lots of podcasts and music I wouldn’t otherwise find in my antenna-less Golf TDI. There are too many ads, but at least you can usually cut them off after a few seconds unlike the now unlistenable radio stations.

    • Hell yeah Richb! Been using Brave for years, and it is a lifesaver, sorry to say YT still sucks ass seeing as they typically nuke the better content creators.

  12. Eric, enjoyed your interview on Gold, Goats and Guns.

Talk radio died with Rush Limbaugh. Beck and Hannity are shameless shills, never liked them. Podcasts are a far superior format, and there are good podcasters out there. Joe Rogan, Tom Woods, Tom Luongo, to name a few.

  13. Purdy tough to generate sympathy for the combatants, Zionists, Hamas both. Just plain killers, murderers and their hate won’t stop.

Might try and work things out.

It’s the Jew dogs vs. the Hamas dogs.

They’re in a death grip at the moment. They are not human anymore, just mad dogs on a hellbound train.

Have to suffer the consequences, death is one of them. Destruction is another.

The eastern world, it is explodin’.

Send the Jews some Mogen David and get them drunk.

    • But will they have Mogen David in Heaven, sweet Jesus, if they don’t, who the hell wants to go?

Unfortunately in a blood feud, there must be a fight to the finish. Globalists have been meddling in the Levant for centuries and most especially in the 20th century. Let them fight to the death- when the losing survivors beg for peace and agree to abide by the victors’ terms, there will be peace.

      • No, there won’t. It’ll end when they’re ALL dead. Then we can have Sixth Fleet deploy the Seabees and build a big parking lot.

      • It’s not a “blood feud”. There are many Palestinians still living who remember being forced from their homes in 1948, the year of “Nakba”.
Who can blame them for ill feelings?
Most people are unaware that almost all of the jewish “settlers” are not semites at all but are immigrants from the USA and other western countries. These “jews” are responsible for most of the displacement of Palestinians from their ancestral homelands with the “assistance” of the israeli government. It’s all by design.
There are gas and oil deposits in Gaza that israel wants, hence the slaughter.
You see, jewish warfare is unlike any other, commanded by their “god” to destroy EVERYTHING. men, women, children, animals, and anything else that moves.
As an aside, Netanyahu’s “son” is basking in Florida as we speak…

        • For that matter, there’s no archeological proof that the famed Israeli kings David and Solomon ever existed, or that Israel was as powerful in the supposed time as claimed. It sort of belies the ability of an otherwise weak Egyptian Pharaoh, Shirakawa, to invade Israel and despoil the Temple. I guess Yayweh was out back, smoking a “doob”

Israel is willingto fight to the last drop of GOY blood.

For that matter, a German propaganda leaflet, deployed in the fall of 1941, exhorted Red Army soldiers to not “fight for Stalin”. It pointed out that he’s already fled Moscow to Samara, some 500 miles east, along with most of the Soviet government. Stalin’s eldest son, Yakov, (whose mother was a Jewess) , a Leiutenant, had already surrendered. So why should they sacrifice themselves when their Dear Leader and his sons would NOT?

          • It costs an arm and a leg to live in the Middle East, especially in Israel and Palestine. The Arms and Legs warehouses are full, don’t have to charge an arm and a leg for anything anymore, not necessary.

Uff da loo-ey, the love of money and the blood lust for war incessantly continues, it never ceases.

Apparently, the Jews definitely do use the tool of war to have monetary gain, as long as it pays. If you want to gain the whole world, you lose your soul.

Your psyche dies before you do. A diffused psyche never recovers, you have PTSD, in other words, and it does not go away, could be a death spiral.

Mother Nature doesn’t care, she makes everyone humble, no escaping death there and here. Mother Nature is the greatest teacher and Mother Nature kills all students. Agree?

            Thou shalt not kill!

            Abide by the Sixth Commandment.

            If not, FOAD!

            666 indeed!

When and where is the Stop Killing movement going to happen?

Stop Oil goons are just plain embarrassing.

Stop Killing is where it’s all at.

            Continue drinking, you have to.

  14. Glenn Beck has a warehouse full of stuff he sells. The show is basically an infomercial for his products. Alex Jones created the sales model with Infowars. Talk up end times and get people to buy prepper gear. Give away the show to radio stations with plenty of ad avails and local news/sport/weather inserts.

Problem is, stations aren’t local anymore. They are literally a satelite reciever or network conection and a transmitter. Ad sales are handled by agency buyers pushing spots directly into the schedule, or maybe a heavily consolidated sales office that handles dozens of stations regionally out of the closest major city. No news department? Well, just run more rotator spots in that time. No weather? Again, just fill up the time with more spots, doesn’t matter if they’re paid or not, just bonus. Or plug in a bunch of national 1-800 ads that pay out a commission if someone places an order.

Such is the state of terrestrial radio in the 21st century. Makes money, but only because the only expense is electricity.

  15. At one point in time, I was an avid Glenn Beck listener. That started to decline, and then one day, maybe ten years ago? he went into a diatribe about the greatness of Ape Lincoln. Haven’t listened to him since. The only time I listen to radio is when Eric posts his conversations with them. Hell, I don’t even have a a working radio anymore.

    • Working outside, sometimes I get to have a radio on in the background. I’ve given up listening to the F.M. dial, it’s either the same old 100 songs over & over, or the newer teeth aching crap, all with boatloads of mind numbing idiotic commercials.

I flipped the dial to the A.M. band and found AgriTalk to be slightly entertaining & informative. It beats the heck out of anything else on the radio, imho.

That A.M. station plays some older music before & after the show, I just wish they played more than the same 100 songs everyday. What is it with radio stations playing the same songs all the time, I do not know. I miss the days when D.J.’s would just put a record on the turntable & play what they had on hand.

I couldn’t find where a person could listen to AgriTalk online without signing up for something.

      https://www.agrimarketing.com/s/142089

      • I truly think that there is a government “do not play” list of songs. I never hear the old rebellious rock and roll or country songs anymore. Only the “100” daily dose of safe songs you spoke of.

I recall after nahn levin, hearing somewhere that the call went out to radio stations not to play certain songs due to the public’s increased sensitivity. So to me it’s not so outlandish to think it happens.

I have often thought about creating my own radio station called “Rebel Radio” that would play nothing but these memory-holed songs.

  16. The last time I spent any time listening to the Beck show was right after school started last year, when Beck, amazingly, didn’t spend an hour peddling but instead ranted for most of the time about the crowds he dealt with on a recent trip to Yellowstone.

I definitely got the impression that he is one of those people who believe that cars need to go away for about 90% of the population just so that there are fewer people at Disney World and places like Yellowstone.

  17. Even XM, for which I pay a hefty annual subscription to avoid listening to jingles and incessant advertisements, puts its fair share of ads on the talk channels. Occasionally on my morning commute, I’ll see what I can stomach of Mike Slater. Still treated to ads to buy gold, buy prepper seeds, and buy term life insurance. All in between discussion about Trump as our Lord and Savior and the need to kill Palestinian children. Fortunately, I can change the channel. And, sometimes, silence is golden.

  18. Five or so years ago, it came out that a group of radio stations figured out that if they sped up the tape of Rush Limbaugh’s program slightly, not noticeably to the listener, they could fit in one or more additional commercials per hour and increase revenues significantly. When the scheme was revealed, we assumed the practice was halted. But I suspect all the producers realized it was such a brilliant idea they all implemented it from the source. And now, given the inherent delays of streaming audio, it probably wouldn’t be hard to apply it to so-called “live” broadcasts.

  19. The peddlering switching alliances is a hoot as well. Hugh Hewitt is another Israel boot licker. For years he pushed Samaritans Purse (Christians) for disaster help as a legit charity “he really can vouch for”. Now that the Hamas Thing is on stage, no more Samaritans Purse it’s now International Fellowship of Christians and Jews on his show, even though Samaritans Purse is running TV ads touting their relief efforts for Israel.
The tv ads for IFCJ is the usual hysterics of the Jew woman howling about the attacks with fires and missles flying in the background. I was skeptical of that bunch when their prior schtick was the starving old women in Russia. How about you get Chuckie Schumer to shake out a few shekels from under his yarmulke. Israel can’t buy food with the billions they shake us down for already?

My attitude? It’s not anti Jew, it’s anti B.S. that we get stuck paying for.

    • PS: I agree all these shows are getting to be unlistenable, the ad count is ridiculous.

Here in the boonies we get one AM station so from 3 to 5 am it’s Hewitt. I can catch the Boise station on the skip their local guys early morning are OK

    • Hannity is worse than beck due to his inability to acknowledge the TRUTH. Hannity’s jewish masters pay him well.
One of the biggest shills for israel and the “deep state” is hannity. On hannity’s radio show, a caller asked him about the deliberate israeli attack on the USS liberty (GTR-5) on 8 June 1967. Hannity abruptly cut off the caller and declared that “israel is our “friend” and never would have done such a thing”. I dam near ran off the road when I heard THAT. Hannity outright denied that the attack took place.
On another front, 8 June 2017 was the fiftieth anniversary of the attack on the USS Liberty (GTR-5).
Normally, the fiftieth anniversary of any event rates at least a mention in the mainstream media. Not so for the USS Liberty (GTR-5). There was not a peep from the so-called “mainstream media” about this “act of war” against the USA by our “friend and ally”, israel.
This is merely more proof of who owns the “mainstream media”. Hint: It isn’t gentiles…

      • The USS Liberty attack TOTALLY DISGUSTS ME! One, it was done by a purported “ally”. Two, the US Navy refused to help; that’s the part that REALLY pisses me off!

Mariners have a tradition called the “Law of the Sea”. The Law of the Sea dictates that mariners help other mariners in trouble. Even if a warship had sunk an enemy, they’d rescue sailors from the vessel that they’d just sunk; for example, the British Royal Navy ships rescued sailors from the German battleship Bismarck when they sank her; they couldn’t rescue all of them, because they got an alarm that German U-boats were in the area.

If the Law of the Sea dictates helping fellow mariners in distress; if the Law of the Sea dictates even rescuing the enemy sailors if possible; then how much more of an obligation does a Navy have for its OWN sailors in distress? I submit to you that the Admirals in charge of the carrier task force had a moral obligation to help the sailors on the Liberty.

Against all odds, the Liberty was able to erect an antenna to get an SOS out; they were able to signal for help, even though the Israeli jets had deliberately targeted and destroyed the communications antennae to prevent the Liberty for calling for help. The carrier task force got the distress call, and they’d sent out jets to help. The jets were RECALLED on orders from Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara and Pres. Lyndon Johnson! The on-scene commanders, i.e. the Admirals on-scene, should’ve told ’em to shove it, disobey orders, and let the jets continue, so they could protect the Liberty. As a US Navy vet, that really upsets me more than what Israel did; they had an obligation to help, protect, and rescue those men, and they were derelict in their duty.

        • Hi Marky,
You’re absolutely right, that incident was absolutely treasonous on the part of LBJ. The lead Admiral on scene was John McCain’s father; he should have had the integrity to tell Johnson to pound sand and dare him to publicly court-martial him. Of course after what happened to JFK there probably would have been an “accident” at sea and Admiral McCain would never be heard from again.

        • The Admiral that called off US jets was none other than traitor John McCain’s father. The same one who saved his son’s ass when he nearly sank the USS Forrestal off Vietnam with a wet start from his jet.

          • That figures! Why am I not surprised? How could John McCain sleep at night after what he did? His actions were responsible for KILLING 130 sailors! It’s a wonder that the ship didn’t sink; that’s how serious the fire was. Naturally, Dear Old Dad had to bail out his son.

The Forrestal fire was horrific-so much so that the US Navy uses it as a lesson in how not to fight a fire. We literally saw films of the fire. We learned about the mistakes made in fighting it; for example, after one firefighting team had put foam down to suppress the fire, another one came in behind it and washed away the foam. It was because of the Forrestal fire that US Navy required all sailors to be damage control qualified, and to undergo regular training in firefighting.

        • Not only that, the jews strafed the lifeboats in the water as well–dirty bastards.
The “false flag” operation was supposed to sink the ship with all hands perishing so that the attack could be blamed on Egypt.
There were multiple reasons for the attack. One was to hide a jewish massacre of surrendered Egyptian troops and of an Egyptian city as well as to hid the fact that the “six-day war” was actually a pre-emptive strike by israel–NOT a response to an attack by its Arab neighbors”. israel struck FIRST.
This “plan” was executed at the highest levels of both the USA and israeli governments. Johnson has jewish roots. Witness the reversal of all of JFK’s executive orders regarding israel on LBJ’s first day in office.
It is interesting to note that “Doors” frontman Jim Morrison’s admiral daddy was also a part of the investigation. He protested Admiral McCain’s handling of the “investigation” and wanted a full-blown Congressional inquiry. This one move froze his rank as he would not “play ball” and “go along to get along”.
If I had my way, israel would have been turned into a “glass parking lot” on June 9, 1967.

      • Oh and BTW, I’ve heard and read that Sean Vannity is paid $29 MILLION a year! That’s right; between his radio and TV show, he’s reportedly paid $29,000,000 a year. That’s even more obscene than the $7,000,000 Rachel Madcow is paid…

        • Hi Mark,

          Amazing.

I’ve never understood Hannity’s success in that – unlike Rush, who was genuinely funny and had a commanding radio presence – Hannity is (to me) a mediocre talent who comes across as very scripted and predictable. He’s not funny and never takes a controversial stand on anything (that I’m aware of). Yet there’s big money behind him… I wonder why…

          • Eric,

I always found Vannity to be insipid, shallow, and grating. I never understood his appeal, either. Rush’s appeal I could understand, as he was funny, smart, and genuinely knowledgeable; he had a commanding presence on the radio. Vannity? Not so much. Like you, I wonder WHY there’s big money backing him?

          • I can’t believe you ever spent a minute listening to Rush Limbaugh or that you still listen to Glenn Beck for that matter. Old Rush was the biggest goddamned hypocrite ever about “drugs.” A relentless drug “warrior”, the guy washed his opioid pills down with whiskey and died of throat cancer from smoking stogies. He would’ve had you jailed for 25 to life for growing those plants back in the day.

            • Hi Funk,

I listen (in part) because I like to get a sense of what the McGOP is thinking. In part because I drive these new cars and often don’t use a sail fawn to stream music and so am stuck with whatever the car can receive. I never listen to anything but the engine when I am driving the TA – but that’s only every now and then!

              • ” I never listen to anything but the engine when I am driving the TA – but that’s only every now and then!”

Same here Eric. When I drive my 2001 Mustang Cobra SVT with Magnaflow exhaust I never have the radio on. I like to revve it up to 5, 6 thou RPM and listen to that music.

  20. Spot on! Man, bring back the days of Mark Scott (for all the Detroit people who listened to that guy) I’ve been meaning to send a donation. I will tonight when I get home. The articles from the last few days are confirming the value in this endeavor!

    • Thanks for the kind words, Rob!

And the support. I am humbled by the way so many have chosen to help me keep this thing going – without anyone pushing them to do it.

  21. Eric,

I FEEL YOU, DUDE! Oh, I feel you on this. As a retired guy, most of my time is spent either going to and from the YMCA for my daily swim, to feed stray cats in my city, or to run errands (e.g. grocery runs); that is to say that most of my trips are of short duration these days. Do you know that, at times between stray cat feeding stops, I’ll hear nothing but commercials and plugs. It’s gotten so bad that, either I’ll listen to libtard leaning Bloomberg Radio, or I don’t listen at all; depending on what time it is, I’ll turn off the radio because I know that a stream of commercials are coming. For example, when it’s 2-3 minutes before the top of the hour, there’s a commercial break, followed by news, which is followed by more commercials. If I get in and hear the top of the hour break starting, I just turn off the radio anymore. Why? Because I don’t want my whole trip to be nonstop commercials and BS.

It sucked when I was working, because I’d listen to the radio during my commute. Depending on traffic, that would be 45 minutes to an hour each way. I’d listen to Mark Levin on the way home, and man, talk about commercials-YIKES! At times, I’d listen to repeats of the show, which are posted on Levin’s site. Do you know that a full ONE THIRD of the show is nothing but commercials, news, and PSAs? IOW, out of three hours for his show, a full hour is spent on commercials, plugs, news, and PSAs.

Anyway, I don’t listen too much anymore, and it’s for the reasons you cited.

    • Amen, Mark!

I also turn off the radio at the top of the hour – knowing (as you say) there’ll be 10 minutes of peddlering before the show actually starts. It’s become so aggressively awful as to be insufferable. Like you, I often just listen to silence, instead.

        • Ha – yeah. And national “sports” shows are unlistenable. They think it’s about idiot yukking it up among themselves rather than any real content. Also, I think reception is not anything like it used to be – like interference in the atmosphere or something.

    • Levin, for obvious reason, is an Israeli stooge. He’s also GRATING, like chalk dragged on the board, to listen to. Writes very well, his columns are at least readable.

      • Levin is a Neocon (or is that Neoclown?) stooge too. He’s also a GLOBALIST POS! Why? Pushing for Convention of the States is why. Can you imagine convening a Constitutional Convention now? Can you imagine taking the risk of replacing our present COTUS with something new? Can you imagine doing so when the likes of Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, Mitch McConnell, and Kevin McCarthy being delegates, or selecting those who would be delegates? That’s the can of worms Levin is proposing to open. That is horrific on so many levels. I can’t listen to Levin anymore knowing that he’s a traitor.

  22. I didn’t know who it was talking on the radio until the ad to buy a Henry rifle aired. One hour of Beck is enough, not going to listen anymore.

Gerald Celente and Jimmy Dore have plenty to say, listening is easy, so it is worth hearing.

Listened to Rush when he first aired and did listen for years off and on. He went deaf using weight control substances. Exercise helps you lose weight and good food instead of sodas and chips is going to help. Remove sugary foods and all soda.

    You’ll have better blood pressure.

  23. Great points. What makes all of this worse is that too many hosts seamlessly inject ad copy into a conversation about a serious subject without any pause, formal transition, or heads up. The listener is a sentence into the ad copy before they realize the serious subject has ended and they are now listening to an ad — deliberately tricked again. In times past you might hear a pause, then something like, “and now a commercial message,” but no longer. When I find myself in such unexpected ad copy, I shut the sound off, offended, and often don’t bother later to turn it back on. And some wonder why serious talk radio is failing.

  24. I remember Rush saying “time for an obscene profit time out” or something to the effect. I think Rush may have peddled a product or two which I agree reduced the quality of the message he was making…RIP Mr. Limbaugh.

I wish Mark Stein got the golden microphone at EIB not Clay and Buck. They are moderates that don’t take callers, done with that.

    • Hi Hans,

I actually kind of like Clay and Buck… except for one thing. They will literally segue into a pitch in the middle of talking about an issue, seamlessly – but jarringly. There’s no way I could or would whore myself out like that.

    • Rush was sui generis and I miss him every day. His was the one classy talk show with the revolutionary idea of listening to actual American callers voicing their opposition to a corrupt and decadent culture and politics. All the “talk” shows now are heavily or exclusively a talking head “interviewing” the (self) important people.

      • Hi John,

I figured a way around the peddlering on YouTube. Or – rather – I followed the advice given here by several readers. I switched to the Brave browser and do not “sign in” to YouTube. No more peddlering!

      • And, if you have an older version of Brave and see ads, simply install an update to the browser.

The GoogTube is constantly tweeking & twerking their programming to defeat ad blockers.
