I’m watching a “reckless DUI suspect” in LA, right now, on the news (Fox Live). This guy is MUCH more skillful that that feckless dipshit in this article’s video. They keep talking about how reckless and erratic he is, but he’s managed to avoid hitting pedestrians or anything else, all while driving probably double the speed limit on most of those roads. Sure, he’s breaking many of the laws, but has yet to hit anything…
Aaaand, he ditched his Kia under a bridge to get away on foot. Didn’t work out for him.
Before you passed him, I was guessing texting-salepone person or old guy.
Lots of old guy driving looks like a drunk driving though, especially that one.
It seems few older folks seem to understand when it’s time to give up the keys. Very few seem aware of it for some reason, thinking they are just fine when they aren’t. I suppose the loss of independence and denial is part of it. It’s a good example of someone that should know better but doesn’t.
One neighbor was one of the few that did, she was almost 90. Ironically or not, her driving was fine. Why do I know? She asked me to ride with her one day and asked if I thought she was still doing ok. She had wisely given up driving in the dark already and driving on major highways and all interstates, which was a good idea that some older folks should do. She just needed to get around town for some shopping, church, friends and the doctors office. Places she could get to without going on major roads thankfully.
I have finally got my dad to stop driving after dark, using her as an example (that it wasn’t a 50 year old guy idea but a 80 something old lady idea) though even daytime driving is getting to the end unfortunately.

He is drunk dude, I don’t think he is sober. Day drinking is dangerous AF I don’t think this is clover. I think this is straight up drunk driving or the most distracted texter imaginable. In ANY case that is dangerous AF moving into oncoming traffic is bananas.
I’m 70 and I refuse to drive like a moron. You are absolutely correct, once determined you’re a hazard to others on the road (or the shoulder as well!) time to hang up the keys and let the “home” ferry you around. My mom’s place had regular outings to the store then also tour bus runs to tulip festival, mountain sightseeing runs, etc.
We had a family friend, would tool around the state in his Camry with his buds. Thought nothing of a 250 mile round trip to come have lunch with us – back home the same day. He was 93 and I was very comfortable riding with him, super competent steady but not slow. A rare bird miss ya Howard.
