The President of the United States just released the following statement:
“We have just been asked by Iran, and other Middle Eastern Countries, to hold off any attack in that the perimeters of a deal has been agreed to.”
This exceeds even The Chimp’s “Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning”?
Doesn’t it make you feel a little bit like Mr. Hand, from Fast Times at Ridgemont High? Mr. Hand was a high school teacher perpetually exasperated by the sloth and indifference to learning anything displayed by his students. In their defense, they were stoned teenagers – in the movie. What is the president’s defense?
If you are in your teens or early 20s today, you probably don’t get why it’s so exasperating – to GenX and older generations – to hear the president speak of “perimeters” and deals that “has” been agreed to. It’s more than just grammar policing, too. The statement also says: “The U.S.A. is locked and loaded and ready to go against the Islamic Republic of Iran, at levels of Military Terror, Strength, and Power not seen since World War II.” One can easily picture Trump as you-know-who in that scene from Downfall that became the basis for countless parodies.
The Fuhrer – whoops, president – also says (once again) that the “deal” must encompass the “Total OPENING OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT, and an end to Iran’s nuclear threat.”
How many times has he said the same thing already? How many times have the Iranians said that they do not agree? Why does the Fuhrer – er, the president – continue to say the same thing over and over and over? In between pauses and resumptions and threats of resumptions?
Because it keeps everyone on edge – and distracted. That is the true purpose of this stupid, evil war – which is more evil than stupid. Ordinary people have their heads on a swivel. They get up in the morning and wonder what insanity has propagated while they slept. They keep glued to the “news” – and their screens. The idea is to keep them anxious – and it’s working. A technique used to wear down someone is to keep throwing things at them such that they can’t catch a breather, much less have the time to calmly deal with one thing before the next thing is thrown in their laps like a hand grenade. This is part of Trump’s art of the deal. He learned it from his mentor, Roy Cohn – an evil fixer of the ’50s and ’60s and ’70s, who mentored the young apprentice.
Note that the Epstein Stuff has all-but-gone away. A treasonous honeypot operation involving the intelligence apparatus of a foreign entity is alarming but $4.10 per gallon is distracting. Also the worry that it could get much worse – any day now. People having to deal with existential threats to themselves haven’t got time to worry about what the cretins who rule them have been up to. This is why the war goes on . . . and on. It will probably continue to go on. And then off, sort of – for awhile. Before it goes back on again.
Orwell explained it (through Goldstein and his “book”) in 1984. The war is meant to be forever, the antagonists regularly shifting but the essential chaos never ending. The chaos – and the collective cortisol amping up it produces – is the point of it all. Keep the masses occupied and terrified and misdirected.

That and the fact that they actively stunt the minds of children via rote memorization and “just because.” Any child of normal intelligence can be taught to read, write and do arithmetic at an adult level by the age of ten if not sooner. Yeah, no. The reason they are switching to another company is simply because this law is not already on the books, and Flock has a bad name. If the bill were to pass, they could still switch and select any company they want, but it would not be paid for with federal tax money. Which is all I really care about. What is it to me if the people who live in a given town choose to have their tax money spent on surveillance of their town?
The 2nd Amendment does not specify which arms it applies to, and that’s a good thing. They could not have predicted what we have now. Maybe. Either way, keeping mum is just standard OPSEC. Make the foe use his own resources to figure out how badly he hurt you. Only a colossally stupid military that wanted to be defeated would give that away for free. That’s why, for example, Iran blurs out the backgrounds when they show videos of launches, and US makes sure there’s no land visible when they show the fighters taking off from aircraft carriers. I had United Health Care coverage through my employer–no choice in the matter. Along with the rest of the employees, I paid for my own health insurance $180.00 per week.
Initially EVERY SINGLE CLAIM that I made through United Health Care was summarily rejected. Some of my fellow employees just shrugged their shoulders and paid the bills themselves.
Not me.
I grabbed my stack of denials (which was substantial) and slammed them on my Human Resources Department representative’s desk.
They all got paid.
I never had an ounce of trouble with United Health Care after that.

I agree with you murder should never be the answer unless it is in self defense, but I wage the question how many lives has for profit health care companies taken due to denials so they can increase the shareholder driven bottom line?
For profit health care has been an absolute failure in this country. I have no issue with doctors/dentists making a profit for what they do. I do have a problem with insurance companies buying up hospitals, doctor offices, and even supply houses then increasing costs while providing lackluster service.
Healthcare should be between a doctor and their patient. There should never be a middle man involved in the decision making process.
I believe the system could be fixed, but the insurance companies have to go. Allow individuals to establish a HSA (Health Saving Accounts) type of account where contributions to it are not limited annually through their banks and credit unions. The employer and employee can contribute to it instead of paying the premiums to the health insurance companies. When the individual needs to see a doctor, hospital, lab work, etc. they can use the money (tax free) out of their account to pay for it. Costs will decrease dramatically and care will improve because the insurance owned doctor offices will be no more and physicians can get back to providing true care.

Nonsense. It’s the introduction of middlemen (insurance companies, caused by government) and government (CMS, physician licensing, etc.) that caused the failure.
For-profit health care has an air-tight alibi — apart from concierge care, it hasn’t existed in to any degree for at least half a century.

I sincerely believe that a good share of the reason things worked out in the past is that a kid could take his nickels and dimes from returning pop bottles to the bank and open a savings account paying 5%. When inflation was maybe 2%. By the time he was out of school, he could have a nest egg. Enough for a car, maybe even a downpayment on a house. He learned that work and saving is the combination that makes him better off.
For the last couple decades, he could deposit it for 0.05% or so, and lose 4% to inflation. Since he’d have lost value by depositing it in the bank, what was the point in saving? Might as well blow it all on present comfort. Wrong incentives. But it explains why people act as they do.

I find this to be true. I have been a lifelong student of politics and news, I read the papers and political magazines voraciously as a kid and as an undergraduate.
