Apparently, the president who is about to launch a war and who never fought in one (because “bone spurs”) thinks he deserves a medal. The Medal of Honor. So he hinted the other day at one of his rallies.
“I flew to Iraq,” the president said. “And I was extremely brave, in fact. So brave I wanted to give myself the Medal of Honor.”

He went on:
“I said to my people: Am I allowed to give myself the Congressional Medal of Honor? I’ve given out so many to guys that are seriously brave . . . their arms are missing their legs are missing, their stories are so unbelievable . . . and I said, you know, it’s a little stretch if I gave myself one of them. But… someday, I’m gonna try!”
What to say?
Well, let’s start with the number of men (and women and children) who are probably going to be without arms and legs and other things very soon, if Trump does what everything seems to indicate he’s decided to do – without any congressional warrant, by the way.
On the Iranian side, at least.
Americans tend not to be particularly affronted by losses inflicted on others. But this time, the losses could go both ways. Cui bono? Not the Iranians, obviously. Not Americans – just as obviously. It is obvious who thinks they will benefit – but it is considered “anti-Semitic” for Americans to say so.
Yet most Americans know so.
If a vote were held, the armada would recalled. No vote will be held. The armada will not be recalled, never mind that every survey done shows Americans overwhelmingly oppose this war.
So much for “democracy.”
Some will say it is because we did get to vote. But did the bulk of those who voted for Trump do so because they wanted a war with Iran? If he’d campaigned on that, would he be president now? Americans, by and large, never want war. They generally have to be pushed and prodded into it. Wilson and Roosevelt did so. Also LBJ. We enjoyed a brief period of relative peace after that, because the Vietnam War was a very ugly one that was in no American’s interests, unless they happened to have a lot of stock in Bell Helicopter.
Trump avoided that war. He had more important things to do than “serve.” That’s for others, less well-situated.
Ronald Rrrrrreagan invaded Grenada but that was an amusement more so than a war. The wars kind of ebbed for awhile and that was a real problem for those who wanted more of them, especially on behalf of the state of Israel and its regional hegemonic aspirations. So Americans were goaded into a war against the country that had nothing to do with Nahhhhnlevven but a great deal to do with annoying the state of Israel (which benefitted hugely from Nahhhhnlevven). Now comes a new war against another country that has not attacked America but also annoys the state of Israel.
Led by a man who wants a medal for his “bravery.”
How long before this man rouges his cheeks and holds press conferences wearing ermine robes, like the real-life Baron Harkonnen, aka Herman Goring? The Reichsmarschall was notorious for such things and also for craving medals. He was, so the story goes, beside himself with rage and jealousy when his rival, Foreign Minister von Ribbentrop, was awarded a medal by the Italian dictator, Mussolini. Eventually, he got one for himself.
To be fair, Goring actually earned his spurs as a combat pilot in the first world war. He was many things, including extremely strange. But he wasn’t a draft dodger and – despite what you may have heard or read – didn’t want the war that came in the fall of 1939 and did all he could to prevent it. It was the Reichsmarschall who arranged the Munich conference that averted war over Czechoslovakia. Hitler kept him out of the loop thereafter because it was the Fuhrer who wanted the war.
After the war, it was the Reichsmarschall who famously explained:
“Why, of course, the people don’t want war. Why would some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best that he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally, the common people don’t want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.”

If you at least show up and “throw your vote away”, someone would think, “Hey, it’s easier to get this block of voters than it is to nibble away at the independents in the center.” And you would get more Massies, and moving towards Massie.

That may or may not be true. The EA-18G Growler appears to still be state of the art, or nearly so. If the Iranians have not made substantial upgrades to the downed Shaheds that the US got from Russia/Ukraine, those are not a credible threat. Those will splash from the Growler’s EW, bringing the quantity down to something the AEGIS can probably handle. And the EA-37B is a complete wildcard, so far as any non-classified personnel can say. The F-22s might not even come out to play, just circling playing overwatch.
But on the other hand, there is solid evidence that in the last attack, one of the Russian air defense systems successfully painted at least one of the F-35Is. If so, and that did not get fixed, that could be a very bad day indeed for American airpower, since the primary players are probably the F-35C and F-15E. It could be very dicey if US is reduced to just stand-off and cruise missiles.
Russia and China are supplying their best systems and personnel to man them specifically to see how their tech stands up to American tech.
Hopefully, this is all a big bluff, or that there has been some backroom deal to hit a few Iranian bases, they hit a few of the ones Trump emptied out. And Trump uses that like the Beirut barracks to tell the rest of the world they can’t expect the US to keep the shipping lanes open for them anymore.

Once this starts, it will be damned hard to stop.

I am greatly disturbed by Trump’s behavior. I’ve noticed that a friend on Facebook no longer sends out announcements that he is going to speak even though she was his biggest supporter. I was hoping that he would have told Americans that the economic mess would take time to sort out because of the massive debt. Instead, he is touting how great the economy is when you, I and fellow readers of this site know better.
His threatening to use the military here and there may trigger a response from adversaries that can overwhelm this nation. Our military does not the depth and industry needed to sustain it in a prolonged conflict with anyone that has a modern capacity like China or Russia that has a advanced submarine fleet and ICBM’s.
Most of all the Dollar is weak and getting weaker and the rest of the world is getting aggravated financing the out of control debt.
I am very concerned about his verbal attacks on some republicans in congress that may not agree with him 100% every time while praising some reprobates like the recently deceased “reverend”. He should heed Regan’s advise it is better to get along with those who may agree with you 80% of the time.
Most of all, if he does believe in the tenets of the Bible, the one requirement it often stresses is to be HUMBLE. And he is displaying none of that.
