🔴 Hezbollah lured an entire Israeli armored company into a textbook ambush last night on the Taybeh–Qantara axis.
Tuesday, Israel’s 7th Brigade sent a remote-controlled bulldozer to probe Hezbollah’s defensive lines between Muhaysibat and Qantara.
The fighters spotted it and let it pass. They wanted the real prize.
Wednesday at 6:50 PM, it came. A full armored column of Merkava tanks and D9 bulldozers, rolling single-file toward Qantara.
Hezbollah waited. Every vehicle entered the kill zone. Then the order came, and with the battle cry “Ya Rasul Allah,” the fighters launched.
Guided missiles slammed into the middle of the column. Four Merkavas and a D9, all destroyed. The column was now cut in half.
The rear platoon popped smoke to hide. It didn’t matter. Missiles found them too. All four tanks burned.
The lead platoon tried to push through into Qantara anyway. More missiles. Another D9 and two more Merkavas gone.
The surviving soldiers abandoned their vehicles and tried to evacuate their casualties, fleeing on foot back toward Muhaysibat while Hezbollah artillery pounded their command posts and reinforcements.
Final toll: ten tanks, two bulldozers. An entire company’s worth of armor wiped out in a single engagement.
And this was the second time in three days. Two days earlier, Hezbollah destroyed eight Merkavas in a similar ambush on the Taybeh to Deir Siryan road.

Honda CRX’s are basically gone from the used car market. Decent Geo Metros are also very rare. I’ve been looking for a Geo Metro in the Pacific NW and 90% are all tore up real bad. There are many Mitsu Mirages, but half have that damn snowmobile tranny.
One really good option is the Honda Fit (1.5/5) with magic seats. If you hypermile it you can get 50 mpg. It has the V-Tec engine, and the car is of excellent quality (unlike the metro or mirage). The Yaris is a Toyota and is of good quality also. We have a 2005 Corolla, it has an Atkinson engine (1.8/5) and the cruise rpm is 800 rpm lower than the Civic (1.8/5).
I have an 8th gen Civic with a 1.8/5spd, and I hypermile it daily. I have a Scan Gauge 3 (highly recommended) so I can watch the fuel economy in real time. I have tires at 45psi with low tread, and the car coasts better than any other, it gets impressive fuel economy even though it has those damn 65 aspect ratio tires. Yesterday each leg of my journey I registered 50, 52 mpg on the scan guage, if I am really miserly I can get 47 mpg out of a tank. That is way above the EPA rating. The Fit has the same engine but smaller, unfortunately the 1.3 liter is not available in North America.
I have been a fuel economy junkie for decades, you want 80 aspect ratio tires, like some older Civics have 155-80R13 (Geo Metros 155/80R12s) and you pump up right to the sidewall limit. You want at least 45psi in the tires for least rolling resistance. Darin, over at metrompg and ecomodder websites has done rolling tests, charts, you can study

it is being widely reported that mortgages rates jumped again to 7% today, IMO rates are going to continue to rapidly increase with oil prices and inflation.
8% is the magic number, a psychological threshold where home sellers throw in the towel and lower prices

The slower you go in 5th gear, the mpg goes up.
Coasting in idle saves lots of gas, the reason I know is my Scan Gauge 3, it gives you mpg data in a dozen ways, it takes fuel to run an engine at 3,000 rpm even when not moving, thus coasting at speed lowers fuel flow and increases mpg into the hundreds mpgs. I do this every day, when I crest a hill, before the top, I pop it into neutral and coast over the top and roll by gravity all the way down the hill, I use pulse and glide to maintain say 45mph on the downhill grade as the slope decreases, I watch the mpg for that trip increase, I play it and try to make that leg of journey get to 50mpg or higher.
Maybe I should “boot” my 2006 Toyota Corolla at night!
