Reader Question: Second Row Seats?

Here’s the latest reader question, along with my reply!

Mary asks: Is the top of the line Kia Sorrento only available with captains seating in the 2nd row? We want a 60/40 folding seat not a captains chair and are wondering if Kia will be making the higher trim Kia Sorento’s w/o the captains seating in the future? We love Kia and this will be our third one but we want the high end Sorrento with the seats we want. It is not available now with the 60/40 configuration and we don’t want a lower model where to old seats are.

My reply: Kia has not yet released details about the 2027 Sorento, which may get a major update. It is generally the practice in vehicles that offer three rows to make second row captain’s chairs standard in higher trims, as you have discovered. Here’s a suggestion that may help: Speak with the dealer and explain that you want to buy the higher trim but do not want the second row captain’s chairs. Ask whether they would be willing to replace the second row captain’s chairs with the second row three-across bench you prefer as a condition of making the sale. This ought to be a pretty straightforward swap and it might be worth the dealer’s while to make the sale.

Hope that helps!
