Reader Question: Every Car an Electric Car by 2040?

Here’s the latest reader question, along with my reply! 

Eric asks: Have you heard Chuck Schumer promised that if Democrats win the Senate in 2020, they’ll pass a law requiring that every car in America be electric by 2040?

My reply: No – but I am not the least bit surprised by this. Schumer has already proposed a “bold new plan” (their plans are always “bold”)  to massively increase the subsidies for EVs – from the current maximum of $7,500 per car to $10,000 or more. The idea being to artificially – but temporarily – efface the enormous economic advantage IC cars have over EVs.

I also dread the reverse – i.e., punitive  taxes applied to IC cars to make them as artificially expensive as EVs are, naturally. Such taxes are already applied in China. I expect them to be applied here, too,

I hate to say this, but our only hope is orange… the Orange Man.

If he loses, it’s over.
