We are very close to the “deadline” Trump insolently laid down for Russia to negotiate terms with Ukraine. Where does the president of the United States get the authority to set “deadlines” – with ominous, hinted-at consequences – for other nations; in particular, those that have not attacked the United States?
It is not a question of authority; there is none such in that handsomely written old document that the government pretends defines and limits its powers. It is (and always has been) a question of power. When asserted it becomes authority. Trump, following the precedents set by so many of his predecessors – simply asserts his authority to do whatever he wants, because he has acquired the power to do it. He has this power for the same reason cops who abuse people have it: There is no authority to restrain them when they assert their power.
So they do what they want.
At any rate, Trump has told the leader of another nation – one with a nuclear arsenal – that there is a “deadline” for it to basically submit to being strong-armed by a foreign power’s Maximum Leader (i.e., Trump). This is the sort of thing that sometimes leads to wars and in this instance, the war could very easily become a nuclear one.
Is Trump insane? Or just stupid? It could be that he is desperate.
The Epstein Business hasn’t gone away for the summer recess. It continues to back up the sewers – and though Trump has tried mightily to flush it all away, the shit seems apt to overflow the bowl. In an important way, it already has.
Last fall, millions of Americans voted for Trump because they thought – just maybe – he wasn’t another one of them. They wanted badly to believe it and some did believe that he was telling the truth when he promised that if elected, he’d get to the bottom of this Epstein Business as well as other such business. Now we know the truth in all its hideous, bottle-fly-covered putridity. They are all the same. More finely, they are all in the same club – and we are not in it. They would not allow us in the service entrance, to bring in and drop off a few cases of champagne for their next teenybopper rave.
We know this now because it is no longer possible to believe otherwise.

We know that Voting Harder Next Time is not going to change anything other than the slogans and the faces of the things that attend those teenybopper raves – and why would anyone believe for a moment that people who egg-on and even thrust their chests out in pride over the mass slaughter that’s been underway in Gaza for more than a year would not attend teenybopper raves?
We know that it is hopeless – in the sense that there is no hope (as in zero) that any of them will ever be held to account for anything they have done so long as they are in charge of the mechanism of holding themselves accountable.
We allowed ourselves to entertain a pleasant delusion that it was not so, but that has now been dissipated. We cannot unsee – or unhear – what has been seen and heard. It no longer matters – in the macro-political sense – whether the truth about the Epstein business is ever fully revealed. The truth about the JFK business has never been revealed, either. But who among us still believes it was Lee Harvey Oswald, acting alone, who murdered JFK in broad daylight? It did however take decades for that belief to dissipate. The events that took place on September 11, 2001 hasted that dissipation. At first, most of us believed that the “enemies of freedom” had conducted a dastardly attack. This belief enabled a dastardly attack on us – and by us (on Iraq, resulting in far more carnage visited upon innocent Iraqis than was visited upon innocent Americans).
We Voted Harder and exchanged The Chimp for Barack Obama – but they were still in charge. So nothing chnaged except for the worse. Then Trump came down the escalator and we thought – at last! – an outsider. Someone who isn’t a member of the club; he told us so! He would “drain the swamp.” He promised. We believed. We even let ourselves believe that he was played by Fauci and the rest of them. That he faced a foe so pervasively evil that it had to be exposed before it could be destroyed. So they brought out Joe Biden to make us believe it good and hard. It got so bad we believed it again, when Trump promised (again) that this time would be different. He understood them now. The wars would end; or at least our enabling and egging-on of them would end.
But of more importance, justice would be done.
They – some of them, at least – would be made to answer for all the things they’d done. Many of us really, desperately believed it.
And now we confront the awful truth that nothing will be done. Not ever. Not for as long as they continue to have the power to assure nothing will be done to make any of their friends answer for anything they have done and bopping teenyboppers is just one of those things.
This is perhaps the most consequential Red Pill Moment since the summer of 1775 – when it finally dawned on a sufficiency colonials that Great Britain regarded them as vassals and that the “appeal to Heaven” was kind of sad as well as futile.
Kind of like Voting Harder Next Time.
Trump knows this, too. It explains his cornered rat behavior. Their cornered rat behavior. All of them. They know we know and that is worrisome. Enter the “deadline” – which is in fact an ultimatum. What will happen when deadline-ultimatum arrives?

Speaking of AI, I wonder if anyone here caught the recent MIT study of students who used ChatGPT for writing essays, used search engines for writing essays, and students who only used their brains. Turns out students who used ChatGPT for writing essays had reduced brain function compared to students who only used their brains.
I believe I read that article, and found it interesting. At work, I wrote up (my own steam) a page for a co-worker, recommending them for an award. I went through about 7-8 rough drafts, changing a few things here-and there, before I came up with a final writing piece. The co-worker I wrote for (who received said award) was impressed, and wanted to know if I used Chat GPT. At that time, I did not know much about it, but took said co-workers question as a compliment. I surmise that Chat GPT is up there with calculators, in that in the normal usage, and passage of time, humans will forget how to do what we normally had to figure out on our own: The basics in math, proofreading, writing, etc…..the three “R’s” really. Sometimes “old school” is not bad to keep around.

Reciprocal trade deals seem like a pretty good way to equalize markets. It fails in reality because most of the time one party has an advantage over the other, in that specific product. So America exports beef to Asia, and imports electronics. Because Asians tend to be pretty lax in keeping the heavy metals out of the grass -it cuts into the gross margins, so if they want clean beef they buy it from us. We want electronics at “best price” and don’t care about your environment, only obsess about ours.

Were we, as a society, not able to come to a somewhat civil agreement on this governance we would not have The State. This proves that civilized people can get along without The State as they were the ones creating it.
It is the sociopaths, deviants and psychotics that cause the problems that we seek The State to resolve. The Achilles Heel of this concept is that it is those that The State is established to protect the civilized from are the same that are drawn to occupy The State.
