Perhaps the greatest weakness conservatives have is their belief that you can have authoritarianism and liberty at the same time. One example of this intellectual disarray is the typical conservative’s support for the War on Drugs – which is in fact a war on liberty. The conservative does not see that if he supports the arrest/prosecution and punishment of people who smoke pot he also supports the arrest/prosecution and punishment of people who drink alcohol. That it has snot happened yet does not mean it can’t – much less that it won’t.
The authoritarian principle is the same.
Conservatives have a tendency to venerate authority – cops and even more so the military – even though both work for the government and the conservative says he is leery of government.
That is a hard circle to square.
The latest example of this is the general conservative outpouring of support for Trump’s deployment of the military on the streets of Washington, DC. and – with Chicago next, apparently. It is understandable why conservatives – and people, generally, support this. The streets of DC are dangerous for people who aren’t criminals, in part because people who are not criminals have been disarmed and so cannot realistically defend themselves against the criminals, who are well-aware that their victims are likely defenseless. It is interesting to point out here that in areas where non-criminals have the right to defend themselves against criminals, there is less crime. No national guard needed.
Criminals in places such as DC also tend to go unpunished or are punished gently, if they are caught. That means the government has failed to do its most basic job; i.e., to keep criminals in check. It is difficult for the government to do that, of course, because the government is itself a criminal enterprise, an ugly truth that most conservatives want to pretend isn’t so. Instead of demanding that the government do its job, the people demand more government (to keep them safe – as opposed to insisting upon their right to keep themselves safe). 
Now they are getting it, in its most distilled iteration – military force.
Yes, crime is way down in DC. Of course. But at what cost? An alarming precedent has been set. People are getting used to and even liking the presence of soldiers on street. That was once something seen only in police states. Just as only criminals in prison were subject to being “locked down” once upon a time. Americans are now used to being treated like criminals by a criminal government that has asserted its power to “lock them down” – which most of them have accepted with the docile servility of life-term serving con who wants to remain in god graces with the guards.
We have had civilian police who like to pretend they are in the military; e.g., four-star police generals and so on. But they are in fact civilians just like us and at least in principle bound by the same laws as we are.
The military operates according to a different set of rules. The job of the military is to kill and destroy, not to police. Soldiers are trained to think of those they are sent to kill as enemies. As threats, in other words. They are a fine tool for subduing the population of city; the problem is everyone is subdued. Not just the criminals.
Of course, Americans are already used to being ordered around by cops as if they were “enemy combatants.” There is no longer much difference between the civilian cop who pulls you over for some pedantic, made-up “offense” (such as “speeding”) and the soldaten now patrolling the streets of DC. Both look like they’re ready to go to war and in a way that’s just exactly what they’re doing.

The topic (WW II) interests me very much. I have yet to read/come up with on my own a good explanation for why Hitler chose to allow the BEF to escape at Dunkirk. I have heard the “troops were tired” and “supply chains had to catch up” arguments but Hitler was supposed to be an intuitive genius and such a man surely had to understand momentum and initiative. You do not slow down or let up when you are winning; you press on – and win, decisively. Had the BEF been captured, England would have been forced to surrender. It certainly would have had a hell of a time resisting an invasion.
Then there is the similarly baffling decision to slow and enfeeble Army Group Center’s advance on Moscow by detaching armor to pursue a different objective. The basis of the Blitzkrieg is the focus of everything on the objective, to strike fast and effectively. Had Center been at full strength, it is likely Moscow would have fallen before the winter set in.

Americans might think it is a great idea now (especially the Trump supporters) to have the military on the street because it is “their man” doing the ordering. But they are going to squeal like pigs when a future Hillary Clinton or Obama decides to use the same military to go after them. And….fill in the blank.. You are correct, Eric, in that this sets a dangerous (and evil) precedent. The RAM pickup in front of the invisicruiser decided to cross back eastbound to hit US 6, crossing at the “emergency vehicles only” crossover. Of course the lights came on and the cop begins the pursuit. I watched in the rear view as about four other vehicles jumped across the median in the same way. They got away with it. The pickup didn’t.
Wrong place at the wrong time. Sucks to be that guy. But the cop got an extra ticket for the month dropped in his lap on the way home, no effort necessary.

Sadly, while outside force may reduce crime the only true solution comes from living a moral life both inside and out.

Besides the snark, contempt and violation of rights, law enforcement (AGW’s) has also acted as cowards as criminals have run wild in blue cities and most famously in Uvalde Texas where they prevented citizens from rescuing their own children from a gunman.
I don’t like the idea of troops but if Washington DC is a hellhole and the AGW’s refuse to stand up to their own chain of command and uphold the constitution and maintain the peace then maybe it is needed. Mayors, Judges and Prosecutors are freeing these criminals since this is their voter base. “Municipal police departments” are a relatively new phenomenon in the grand scheme of human civilization. This concept of “law enforcement” is beholden to the power structure and not to the citizenry.
In “the good old days”, the “sheriff” was the chief “law enforcement” individual in the county and had broad reign in his respective jurisdiction. When the need arose, ordinary citizens were “deputized” and were given limited “police authority” at the discretion of the “sheriff”. This was used during emergencies when there was a need for “manpower”.
Today, this has morphed into the need for permanently appointed sheriff’s deputies.
In order for a sheriff to be elected (and re-elected) he has to have a good reputation among the citizenry. Accountability to the citizenry is a major part of the equation.
Fast forward to today, where the “chief of police” in major urban areas is quite often a political “hack” whose allegiance is to the mayor and power structure, not the citizenry. This is a large part of the problem as it fosters an “us vs. them” attitude, where the citizenry (us) is considered to be the “enemy”. It gets worse, as city officials “pull back” their police when they should be doing just the opposite.
The concept of “qualified immunity” for public officials has been expanded to the point that police departments operate with impunity and have no problem abusing their power as the prosecutors, courts, and in general the “system” is heavily stacked against the victim of police abuses. It is almost impossible to sue police departments for abuses committed by their personnel.
Individual police officers cannot be sued as they are “protected” from lawsuits by their official “immunity”. Even with incontrovertible video and audio evidence, police are rarely convicted of crimes. Juror intimidation is a large factor in the inability to reign in the “bad apples”. Police unions play a large part in whitewashing criminal behavior by police.
Immunity negates responsibility and must be abolished across the board.
Let’s not forget the “israelization” of today’s police departments where “escalation of force” has been replaced with israeli-style “command and control” tactics in which immediate compliance with police commands is demanded.
American police departments routinely send their personnel to israel for (free) training in how to handle Palestinians (oops, I mean American citizens) to “see how it’s done”. We are all Palestinians, now…
Problems arise when multiple police officers bark out conflicting commands as in the case of Daniel Shaver being murdered by Mesa Arizona police officer Philip Brailsford for being unable to crawl on his stomach with his hands behind his back–impossible for any human being to do. Google it… In fact, Brailsford was rehired by his police department so that he could apply for and receive an pension. The “thin blue line” definitely protects it’s “bad apples”.
What we are experiencing today is “blowback”, something that I feared would occur, with the increasing number of publicized police abuse cases. Those who are attacking police see only the uniform and not the person wearing it.
Not a good situation for either police or the citizenry…

It’s more than that. In order to become a deputy one has to have the right credentials. Former military police get an automatic appointment in most departments, because they’ve been vetted (passed an IQ test), and trained. Then comes the applicants who’ve been to college, majoring in criminal justice, but didn’t go on to law school. They’re usually fast tracked to investigative units and desk jobs because they’re credentialed. And that’s getting close to the top job, the elected sheriff. As much fun as it would be to have Hunter S Thompson running the Aspen sheriff department, the reality is the public wants to see a credential before they’ll pull the lever for someone.

This is a very complex subject. Like most conservatives, I used to be a big supported of the police and the military — until I became redpilled.
By studying the writings of the Founders in detail, I came to understand that in the U.S., the truly “conservative” position is to to follow government orders, but instead the absence of government. As Jefferson famously put it, “the government that governs best, governs least.”
This was possible in a frontier nation where people were self-sufficient and self-reliant. Jefferson also wrote that our nation would “become corrupt when people are piled upon each other in cities, as in Europe.” As it is today.
In the post-Civil War era we do indeed live under a federal occupation government, a military empire. Add urban racial conflict and mayhem into the mix, where the VAST majority of urban crime is committed by blacks (but you can’t say that because it conflicts with the official government ideology of racial equality) and yes, you are living in a police state.

$3K per month would let you live WELL in most of the world my dude. I just got back from 6 months abroad in Southern and Eastern Europe. Average salaries in the countries I visited were between $900-2000 per month. So 3K you are absolutely comfortable middle class.
