Another Trump 180

Did you catch the latest? Trump has floated the idea of “forgiving” student loans. Of a piece with his parking brake 180 on bankrolling the regime in Keeeeeeeeeeevvvv, which he promised voters back in 2024 – it seems so long ago – he would end the day after the inauguration festivities ended.

Well, now he wants to send – threatens to send – Tomahawk cruise missiles to Keeeeeeeeeeevvv, to be fired at Russia on behalf of the United States. Maybe because he wants to keep that Epstein Stuff off the front pages. A mushroom cloud would serve that purpose nicely.

Anyhow, now he wants to “forgive” student loan debt. Isn’t that nice of him? It’s very easy to “forgive” other people’s debt when you’re not the one who’ll be paying for it. As always, we will. As in, you and I and every other idiot who does pay their debts. We will pay because the cost of the written-off debt will be transferred onto our backs in one way or another; either by higher taxes to cover the losses or higher interest rates on our debt. It does not especially matter how we pay. What matters is we will pay. There ain’t so such thing as a free lunch – however much college kids may believe in one.

One can sympathize with anyone who finds themselves laboring under a crushing burden of debt but the thing of it is, such debt is not forced on anyone. Certainly not student loan debt. A person chooses to attend college. They believe it is worth it to attend college, much as some people believe it is worth it to buy a new car or to remodel the kitchen in their home. They decide (no one is forced) to finance their education – or the new car or the new kitchen.

Are they not morally liable for choosing to incur this debt?

The obvious answer is that they must be held liable for it, else a situation arises inevitably in which only suckers pay their bills. When that happens, only suckers work for a living, agree to provide goods or services to people who are more than likely going to say they just can’t afford to pay and then don’t.

Why not “forgive” the mortgage debt most Americans labor to pay? It would be such a relief to not have to spend the next 15-30 years paying off the house! How about credit card debt? Why should the person who chooses to buy a $5,000 jacuzzi and charges it on his Master Card (at 26.99 percent interest) have to pay for that? It is cruel! Outrageous!

Yes, of course – college has become another Big Grift. Excepting perhaps certain formal disciplines such as medicine, engineering and so on, it is largely not even close to worth the money because in the first place, a liberal arts degree generally qualifies one to be a barista at Starbucks and in the second because you do not need a college degree to work as a barista at Starbucks.

It is a far better choice to not go to college and – instead – to go to work. To acquire – via work experience – a useful trade or skill that will earn a good living. An eighteen-year-old high school grad who apprentices to become a plumber or electrician or learns how to frame a wall will not be weighed down by crushing debt after four years. He will probably be earning a great living by then, whereas his liberal arts degree’d friends will be broke, living at home again and begging that the debt they signed up for be “forgiven.”

The really outrageous thing, of course, is Trump’s parking brake 180 on this – and so many other things. Wasn’t voting Trump in supposed to end the grift? Wasn’t it Trump who excoriated Biden for offering all those free lunches that Trump now promises to serve?

Oy meets vey.

  1. Absolutely, every single Trump banner, flag or sign of support has disappeared here in my little circle of Eastern Iowa. Poof!

thefederalist had a bit titled, ‘Importing Argentinian Beef Will Destroy The American Ranchers Crucial For National Food Security’ in it, there was this, “Quite a few plywood Trump signs in flyover country might get turned over and used to patch up the loading chute.”

    Then, there’s this:

“You professing peace lovers in the GOP take note: Donald Trump is doing everything he can to re-elect your biggest enemy in Congress and to defeat your best friends in Congress. And you still give Donald Trump unyielding, total support.”…

    https://www.lewrockwell.com/2025/10/chuck-baldwin/trumps-god-complex-slavish-pandering-to-israel-and-war-against-thomas-massie-and-rand-paul/

Lucy in the sky, with football.

    Bamboozled.

    ..This way, there be monsters.

    • Hi Helot,

Yup. He’s trying to unseat Massie and here in VA, we are likely to get the loathsome Abigail Spannberger as governor, riding a wave of Trump Hate (made more powerful by the defeated moho of Trump supporters, many of whom will probably just stay home).

  2. Did you read the details? The key detail is the “some” borrowers caveat. What he’s done is turned back on one type of income-based forgiveness program that has been around since at least 2007.

This people affected are took a Federal student loan on the promise to take a certain job in return. Such as if you get a nursing or medical degree and take a job at an Indian reservation clinic or get a commission in the military.

Whether this was a good thing in the first place, sure, I doubt it. But he’s not doing a new program to forgive every coffee baristas who decided to get a pottery degree from an Ivy League. It was an existing things that was stopped this year and is restarting.

    • Hmm, “The key detail is the “some” borrowers caveat.”

Are you a Marxist? Why are you defending this?

Or, are you retarded? “This people affected are took a Federal student loan”

      Is English your 2nd language?

  3. Did you all really miss that this is a settlement? The DoE was going to lose bigly in a stacked courtroom, and they sought some compromise?

Sure, they could have just said, “F U!”, but would we be any better off not if, but when the court ruled that they would have to resume processing the “forgiveness” applications for ALL people in the class?

  4. Just change the loans, past and present, to be able to be discharged in bankruptcy.

This might make the colleges and banks be a bit more selective on who they admit.

The non-discharge student loans is probably one of the more predatory schemes that I have seen in my lifetime.

Time for all of those involved in this to to burn down – colleges, lenders, politicians.

    Anon

    • That makes entirely too much sense. And it is most assuredly a predatory scheme, from the college establishment to the big money bank boys. Sign here, and you will be a heavily schooled slave. You can never be out from under this burden.

  5. At the national level, we have a classical dilemma because none of the tools running for president should ever be allowed near the levers of power. The people who held their noses and pulled the lever for Trump now see the futility of that action. Yes, Harris would have been just as bad but what in our system always presents us with the lesser of two evils as somehow representing a choice?

Of interest about Trump though is that he bloviates as if he holds all the cards, and in a sense he represents a danger to humanity because he can initiate nuclear destruction……however, nothing he and his Israeli handlers do can prevent the collapse of the dollar and in fact all of this war porn just accelerates the destruction of both the West and Israel.

China, especially, has played it smart all these years….notice they do not have an empire but they do have real economic power to the degree that the Chinese culture, with 5000 years of experience, saves and invests the way good Austrian economists would prefer. Due to the perfidy of politicians, from all parties, Americans are about to find out what real suffering is all about.

I’d suggest listening to a speech by V. Putin or S. Lavrov next to one by D. Trump or L. Graham and observing which set of actors seems more sane…..

WRT forgiving debt for college loans….this socialist outlook is why collectivist ideologies are so popular….taking responsibility for one’s actions is hard. Americans are rapidly degenerating into a nation of pussies that let bullies like Donald Trump and the Biden regime et al run roughshod over their rights.

“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure” Thomas Jefferson

    • Please come out of denial already. Harris or whatever would have been EXACTLY the same and we all know it. Stop believing in this stupid scam.
You just have trouble accepting whats right in your face. This entire system is rigged and set and there no such thing as voting.

      I told you so again. . . . . . . .

      • She would have been slightly better. She could not convince white southern boys to join the army. That’s why Trump was selected.

  6. Pussies are the norm, one can’t get ones hands dirty involved in a trade. Lazy is going to lazy, need to do little or no work for as long as possible . And then show contempt for anyone who does.

This political strategy invoked by Orange Cunt is called the flipflop pioneered by Trudeau I. Say one thing campaigning and then do the exact fucking opposite when in power. Keep voting it should work out…..as fucking if.

  7. Trumpenstein also canceled his Budapest peace summit. Then sanctions Russian oil companies. So tired of this orange shit stain’s act. Flopping all over every issue like a fish out of water. Erratic and can’t keep anything straight. How can anyone take him or the US seriously? What did we ever do to deserve this?

  8. Is it too late to identify myself as a fortune 500 corporation or a foriegn nation so I can get a bail out from the American government?

    • Hell man, identify as a Somali and come to Minnesota, they’ll give you hundreds of millions to feed all the starving chilluns… and the US Attorney will just throw up his hands and say there’s so much fraud I can’t prosecute it.

      • There’s a great Trading Places II out there for an edgy filmmaker to make about two down and out Americans who decide to ditch their identities and reenter the country as “refugees”, with plenty of laughs as their lifestyle improves dramatically.

  9. I don’t hate the idea, but only under certain conditions:

    1) Must be authorized by Congress

    2) All future student loans become dischargeable via bankruptcy

    3) Get government out of the student loan business, or at least seriously restrict it.

For the record, I had some but I paid mine off years ago.

  10. I went into the trades and I’m less than impressed over paying the debts of people who went to university and got degrees in lesbian aboriginal cultural studies, television history and what have you just as I’m still pissed that my taxes went to give rebates to people buying Evs.

F*ck em, I had to live within my means so can they.

  11. If that happens then I and my two kids want refund checks for the loans they paid off, with some help from us, when they graduated back in the 90’s. At least they got useful degrees, my daughter is a vet tech and my son an electrical engineer; both have decent jobs that pay their bills.

  12. See, this is why people who seek public office shouldn’t diddle adolescent girls at the behest of a foreign government and get filmed and entered in a log book in the process. This is particularly true of narcissists who like to paint their skin an orange hue. Because then you are compromised and forced to do things against your will and desires, or against the wishes of your constituents. Indeed, some such things may be to destructive ends of your country.

  13. ‘Trump has floated the idea of “forgiving” student loans.’ — eric

Student loan forgiveness was a centerpiece of the ‘Biden’ welfare state policy. Again and again, courts found that Congress did not authorize it. A pandemic-era moratorium on student loan repayments just ended this year, throwing some victims debtors into crisis.

What’s the story behind the Orange Invertebrate’s abject volte face? Probably, that the Republiclown party is at risk next year of losing its across-the-board control of the presidency and both houses of Clowngress.

Desperate measures are required, comrades, as the R-party fights for its political life … and we gleefully fling feces at it.

‘Vice President JD Vance, on the second day of a trip to [Israel], said recent visits by top American officials were to monitor the cease-fire, but not “in the sense of, you know, you monitor a toddler.” — NYT

Of course not, silly. You are the toddler being monitored by your Israeli masters. Otherwise why would you rush to this distant, dusty little backwater at their imperious beck and call? America is owned like a little bitch. 🙁

    • The US is being run by toddlers, starting with the Orange Golem, Donald James Bowman (a/k/a “JD Vance), Mike “adolescent boys love my Harry Potter look” Johnson, Ted “everything for Israel” Cruz, Little Marco Rubio, and pretty much everyone on the “opposite” wing of the government bird of prey.

Just look at the destruction that is being done to the White House in order to construct the Orange Toddler’s “Big Beautiful Ballroom”. While I have no love for government buildings in general, the White House is a unique and historical structural that people all over the world recognize. I used to play softball on the ellipse before “Nahn-Eleven” and it was cool to be able to look at it in the background. Now it is being uglified because of the whims of an unrestrained narcissist without regards to the views of “we the people”.

Even the Joey Depends administration never dared that level of vandalism. You cannot despise these people enough.

  14. But at least we don’t have tranny story time and we have a few less wetbacks running around. Oh, and Israel and Hamas have signed a historic peace accord. Winning!

  15. I was for Trump because he was not overtly anti-white, anti-male and anti-hetero. But I still had my reservations about him, he was and is a rich celebrity bullshitter who spent much of his life hanging out with people like the Clintons. (Now I hear he is going to pardon this “Diddy” Negro because he is a fellow celebrity, I guess?)

Perhaps my greatest disappointment with Trump is his subservience to Israel and the Zionist Lobby, he ran on the platform of keeping up us out of stupid foreign wars and ended up basically taking orders from Bibi and the IDF general staff…

  16. The majority of students in college are women. Traditional women’s jobs pay, on average, 20% less than male jobs* despite a college degree -in fact often women price themselves out of the market by being over-educated and not enough demand for their chosen field.

The Republican platform was never very appealing to women voters, and now with “Trump is a big orange a**hole” being pummeled into them every day it’s even worse. The midterms are coming up and they got nothin’. So why not just steal from the Democrats’ platform and see if it gets any traction? Unfortunately I think the woman vote will probably decide the midterms, and I doubt there’s going to be a bunch of Camilla Harris and Joe Biden types running for the Democrats.

*Entry level and “blue collar” positions. Eventually they catch up when they get into management, and in identical work women usually are equally paid although they might not volunteer for overtime or standby pay as often as men.

  17. The Student Loan grift is, perhaps, the greatest grift of all.

State U. signs you up for a loan to pay them for taking classes. State U. gets the money and goes on its merry way raising tuition to whatever the loan providers can bear. Regardless of outcome you have nothing tangible to repossess. Most have a useless piece of paper stating you have a “degree” in, let’s say, Recreation Management (my son-in-law) that no free market employer considers above that which is used in the restroom.

However, GovCo will hire those degreed as such to run the little league fields in Smalltown, USA. And here’s the real dirty little secret. For decades, if you went into a job with GovCo or some “approved non-profit” and made regular payments for a short period of time, the balance was wiped clean. GovCo and non-productive employees have always been able to blow off much of these loans.

A recent piece by Charles Hugh Smith on Lew Rockwell had an interesting graph on student loan delinquency. What was most striking was the percentage in arears who were OVER SIXTY YEARS OLD!!!
    Link here: https://www.oftwominds.com/blogoct25/life-depression10-25.html

    This will not end well.

    • ‘You have a “degree” in, let’s say Recreation Management that no free market employer considers’ — Mark in BC

Regularly I work with two such recreation managers — one employed by Smalltown, USA and the other in a district ranger office in the same town. (Interestingly, the latter is still working and getting paid despite the fedgov shutdown, since campgrounds are money makers).

Both of these happen to be competent, enthusiastic people who have successfully recruited volunteers such as myself. Our group just installed some trail signs for them yesterday. But your point is correct that the free market likely would not support their positions, or it would do so in a different form.
