I see the same parallels. My first guess is that Dan was threatened. After all, he has a wife and two college aged daughters that make good leverage over a person when he/she gets too close to the truth. Or, Dan saw far more than he ever imagined he could see, and decided to bail before the bodies start falling and the blame game/finger pointing/indictments start of the lower level feed trough politicians. He never, ever looked happy, and his face revealed far more than he will probably ever admit. When he leaves, he will most likely be forced to sign a non-disclosure agreement to protect the guilty. It is easy for others to say he had no balls to really stand up, but we also do not know what else is going on behind the scenes. And on the flip side, Dan knew ahead of time how corrupt the system is. Why would you not take steps ahead of time to make sure your wife and family are protected, so that you do not have to worry about above-mentioned family threats?
