People who can remember watching Warner Bros. cartoons on weekend mornings get the reference. For those who don’t remember, a recurrent theme in those old cartoons – Bugs Bunny, et al – was jabbering nutjobs being chased by men from the nuthouse wearing white coats. We used plainer language once.
A man who says “some say” he is the Greatest President in History is technically correct (there are some who do say he is that). But he is also someone who is demonstrating he ought to be netted by the white coated men and taken to a rubber room. He goes on:

She was, after all, a vapid courtier who probably meant no harm. The infamous comment about how the starving French peasants ought to “eat cake” was well-meant. There was plenty of cake at Versailles – so surely there was plenty of cake for the peasants to eat in lieu of the bread they lacked. She lost her head for that, ultimately.
Trump, on the hand, is a bellicose jerk. A vulgar narcissist who is so out-of-control he can’t help himself anymore. He considers himself to be THE GOAT – a lowbrow term meaning the greatest of all time.
In what way, exactly?
Outrageousness, certainly. There is nothing too obnoxious for this man. Nothing too self-aggrandizing, which might sell if there were something aggrandizing about the man. Other than his bloviating boasts, chiefly about himself. It’s embarrassing but he doesn’t see it, apparently. The problem is, most of the rest of us do. Muhammad Ali could credibly style himself the greatest – because he actually was. The man proved it. Trump has proved he’s a lying, conniving, duplicitous asshole with no redeeming qualities. He has successfully played off the superficial glib bonhomie that is characteristic of all successful sociopaths – but eventually, the monster just below that hale-fellow-well-met facade breaks through.
And now we see him. The real him. Not the facade people saw in 2024 but the despicable con man (and worse) he has always been. When the ego of such a man is affronted, he becomes dangerous. When such a man is president, the danger becomes potentially apocalyptic.
I am ordering my Representatives to look at the feasibility of doing an AMERICA IS BACK Rally on Wednesday, Washington, D.C., same time, same location. Only Great Patriots invited — It will be a Wild and Beautiful Celebration of America!

The new version is laced with politically correct (DEI) claptrap, one example of which is that a key character in the novel – who is a man and white – gets replaced by a woman who is black. It’s insufferable and (for me) unwatchable. The ’84 version has some cheesy sci fi effects but it does a good job of getting the gist of the novel’s theme across. I recommend it! I think I have a partial answer. It is that it is difficult for people who are not vulgarians to understand the appeal of a vulgarian. Consider Hitler.
