Well, the “almost done deal” apparently isn’t. Is anyone surprised? By now, everything that Trump says is generally taken by most sane people as either a lie or evidence of early-onset dementia (maybe tertiary syphilis). For instance, his statement the other day that gasoline is “low” and “not very high.” He even had the audacity to claim that gasoline prices had “hit $1.98” per gallon in some states.
It leaves one momentarily speechless, doesn’t it?
The problem – for Trump – is that after awhile, this sort of lying results in general dismissiveness of everything the liar says. It is doubtful the Iranians believe anything Trump says. Put another way, they surely assume everything he says is a lie. Negotiations with a person regarded by the other party to be a serial liar are as pointless as trying to put air in a leaky tire. Maybe it’ll hold for a little while. But everyone understands the tire has got to be fixed – or replaced.
How does this get fixed?
It probably doesn’t get fixed is the awful answer. Trump rolled the dice and it came up snake-eyes – for us. As of the first week of June, the average cost of a gallon of gasoline is about $4.20 – contrary to Trump’s preposterous claims that it is about half as expensive as that. The cost did come down about 30 cents over the past week or so, in congruence with Trump’s lies about the “almost done deal” that (sigh) we discover no longer is. Trump’s Greatest Ally continues the war – in Lebanon – and the Iranians aren’t having it because not only are they in sympathy with the Lebanese but also because they understand Trump’s Greatest Ally will not be done until it has expanded the little Apartheid state into a Greater state. The Iranians know perfectly well, also, that nothing the Israelis say is worth more than Trump’s $250 bill. They’d be fools to believe otherwise.
Well, now that Trump’s “deal” is off, everyone (excepting those still addled by Q “theories” about “white hats” and “narratives” and “plans”) sees Trump as not merely deceitful but also ridiculous. When a boaster fails to deliver on his boasting he becomes a clown. It can happen just like that. The bully gets a beatdown and – just like that – he is a laughingstock. Trump is that now – and that is dangerous because a boasting bully cannot stand to be made to look like a clown. In Trump’s case, to look like the thing he despises most, which is a loser. His monstrous ego requires constant stroking. For him, it is unthinkable to be perceived as anything other than a winner. The biggest and greatest one, ever. It is how he has sold himself all these decades and to a great extent, it has worked because most people are enthralled by success, or at least its appearance. Trump is very good at appearances. But doubled gas prices are a reality he can’t lie his way around because everyone is confronted with the truth at the pump.
So, what now? To crib a line from Pulp Fiction.

The cost of everything is going to go up as the war grinds on – especially the cost of everything related to oil, which includes food but many other things besides. Inflation is ramping up, because the dollar has probably been fatally weakened by Trump – and he won’t be able to lie his way around that, either. While all this is percolating, Trump is exporting huge quantities of American oil. This oil could have been refined into gas and maybe we would have $1.98 at the pump. But we don’t, because Trump is sending America’s oil elsewhere, to try to supply the oil to places cut off by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz that is closed because Trump rolled the dice on this stupid, evil war and came up snake eyes.
Most Americans do not know about this. But they do know Trump is worse than everything they thought they voted against but got anyhow.
