Today’s Clover 5/13/2025

Here we go – again. More finely, here we don’t go, again. I took the video below yesterday. Easy enough to do because I see these Clovers every day. This one squatting in the left (passing) lane on a two-lane road, oblivious to the vehicles passing him on the right:

Several cars (me among them) had to use the right lane as the passing lane because the Clover could not be bothered to move over. Probably because he was on his sail fawn. It seems that many of these Clovers like to drive big trucks and SUVs, too.

Wonder why that is?

  1. Often, the problem isn’t the person in the left lane with NASCAR wannabes on his behind, but the asshole in the right lane who decided to speed up too. No matter how fast you drive, someone just has to drive faster. It seems they don’t find their courage until someone else comes flying by. There are four kinds of speeders: insecure people, ungrateful people (they fail to appreciate being in a climate controlled mobile music hall) people who don’t get paid by the hour to drive like I do, and folks who really need to shit & piss. Otherwise, people who got it together drive with the flow (but keep the herd in front of them)

    • Hi David,

I consider this whole “speeding” a fatuity. What does the term mean? It means – insofar as the law is concerned – driving even 1 MPH above the speed limit, whatever it happens to be. You see how silly this is. Ok, so how much “speeding” is too much “speeding”? Nothing more than “a” driving faster than “b” considers to be the “right” speed. Also silly.

My position is that everyone ought to drive at whatever speed feels right to them that comports with their own abilities and that and that everyone ought to yield to faster-moving traffic as a matter of common courtesy.

  2. It depends on the type of road. If it’s a business road where there are just as many places,/reasons for left turns as there are for right turns, then carry your dumbass around on the RIGHT side. If it is the interstate, then slower traffic keep right. I’ve got over twenty years of professional driving experience by the way. I currently do local trucking in the Charlotte area, and wish the cops would get busy passing out speeding/traffic violation tickets. Low IQ’s and speed don’t mix well at all.

    • Hi David,

You’ve got 20 years of professional driving experience. That’s not an argument. It’s a reference to authority. I also have experience – more than yours. For 30 years I have been test driving new vehicles each week, including exotic, high-performance vehicles. I have driven thousands of vehicles of all kinds, on the street and track.I have the same driver training given to the DEA and FBI, as well as a Bondurant certificate. It does not have anything to do, as such, with the issue of yielding to faster moving traffic.

  3. I drive from Tucson to Phoenix on I-10 regularly and usually have to right-hand pass 5-10 vehicles going 76 in a 75 zone in the left of 3 lanes. They should just get rid of mirrors on new cars since no one seems to know they are there…

  4. I was a professional driver, started the day after I turned 18. Went down to our local license office and took the 40 question written test, paid a few dollars and was handed a Chauffeur’s license.. was legally driving a tractor and dump trailer the next day.
Then when CDL’s came around I was grandfathered and never needed to take a road test.. ever!

Went on to drive tankers hauling milk and eventually moved to hauling chemicals, some pretty nasty stuff.. into nuclear plants, water treatment plants and such.

Last job was teaching as a driving instructor at a tractor trailer training school.. that was many years ago.

Always worried at some point I am going to have go back to a reg job.. so have kept up with licensing and physicals (out of pocket) all these years.

Times have changed.. traffic has increased three fold and its not the work for us freedom loving guys like it used to be. Digital surveillance and other such things.

Now I still love to drive and put about 10k miles on our motorcycles every year plus cruising in our trucks but most all back road recreational rides.

Wife doesn’t think I will like going back tt driving today.. and would prefer I didn’t.

So I am seriously considering dropping the CDL this year.

Pretty much for all the reason mentioned here lol.

  5. The jabs taking affect, they’re brains are rotted and they got the fluorinated stare as they space off in the left lane, oblivious to how they’re impeding the flow of traffic.
This week alone dealing with the driving dead, my commute times increased due to how dain bread they are on the highways and shit, and its not like they’re preemptively protecting you from an AGW lying in wait, they’re just dead behind the wheel, and not an seasoned citizen or some teenage named McKenzie with the IQ of a chicken mcnugget

  6. Amazed you could see the driver. The low life default here is limo level window tint including the windshield. The cops have given up, near zero enforcement until some POS ends up going the wrong way on the freeway. Then the news report “lengthy criminal record”. WA is a sanctuary state plus “equity justice” = animals out and about everywhere. “Hey it’s a white guy with clear windows doing 41 in a 35, book’em Danno!”

Your right hand pass situation is common here otherwise you’d be stuck as the conga line builds.

  7. It seems that many of these Clovers like to drive big trucks and SUVs, too.

    Wonder why that is?

    My theory:

When you are so self absorbed and selfish as to not care about whether or not you are impeding traffic, it only makes sense to me that they would want to be in the largest vehicle available to them. Possibly due to the number of wrecks they have had in their life.

Doesn’t matter who they kill, as long as they survive.

Just a working theory . . . Still gathering data. LOL.

  8. The Revenuers aren’t interested in preventing unsafe passing, traffic distortion and road rage – there is a lot more money requiring a lot less effort to cite someone for driving above low speed limits set by the oligarchs.

  9. I think many of the slow poke left lane drivers have figured out that they don’t have to worry about any traffic in front of them interfering with their text conversations.

    • Insightful, Mr. Kable. You’re probably correct.

It’s a little like people who stop 5-car lengths before a red light, which I believe is done so that they can maximize their texting time.

  10. Years ago as I was driving around Chicagoland I came upon a semi with 2 signs on the rear. Homemade, the left rear sign was “Passin-side” the right rear sign was “Sui-side”. That sign has stuck with me. It is not only inconsiderate to make people pass on the right it is dangerous.

  11. In your Old Dominion on I-77 there are several signs northbound that state Trucks and Combination Vehicles Stay Right Below 65MPH.

The speed limit on that section is 65.

Yes, keep right even if you need to pass AND driving ABOVE the “speed limit” is EXPECTED!!

This from a state that thinks 81 in a 70 is borderline vehicular homicide.

    SMDH!

    • I don’t miss traveling through VA on that pair of paved railroad tracks – that they refer to as I-81.
Get in the left lane and follow a truck for 119 miles that is doing 0.017 mph faster than the truck it’s passing in the right lane.
