Mold and “masks” have a thing in common. They are both damned difficult to get rid of once they take hold. You can try bleach, you can try facts and reason – it doesn’t ever seem to work.
It’s just been reported that the Honduran Health Ministry has reinstated mandatory “mask” wearing again. The word is bracketed in air fingers quotes to mock the fact that a “mask” means just that. It can be anything, so long as it is a “mask.” It does not have to be anything that stops the spread, such as a pressurized biohazard suit with its own self-contained air supply. That is what people who work with highly dangerous infectious diseases wear; maybe the Health Ministry ought to tell them it’s safe to ditch all that and they can just wear a dust mask from Home Depot or one one of those Chinese-made surgical masks that used to tell you on the side of the box they came in that they aren’t intended for medical or surgical use and do not “stop the spread” of anything except perhaps boogers and sanity.
Of course, Honduras is not the United States. And yet it is – in the sense that “mask” wearing has not been officially repudiated as silly (as regards public health measures) and evil, as regards promoting lies and serving as theatrical props used to terrify and terrorize people.
It has merely been vaguely put aside, for the moment. Note the fact that it is still treated as acceptable to wear a “mask” in public, as if there were nothing strange about that. As if it were just a harmless quirk.
There was nothing harmless about the use of “masks” to scare people into believing and appearing to believe was mass death wafting invisibly in the air and that the only thing standing in between life and death was the wearing of an idiotic ear-loop “mask” made to catch drool and make everyone look like a fool. The damage done has been immense and is ongoing. There are still people so mind-diddled by years of intense and pervasive fear-mongering that they are still wearing the damned things, by choice. Of course, they don’t really have a choice because mentally ill people can’t exercise choice. That is why adjudicated mental illness constitutes a valid defense in court, when a person is being prosecuted for having committed an otherwise inexplicable crime. It is wrong to hold crazy people responsible for things beyond rational control. The wrong that’s yet to be redressed is holding the people responsible for instilling the craziness responsible.
Helping the mentally ill recover requires confronting their mental illness – rather than pretending it doesn’t exist. Us pretending not to see anything abnormal when we see someone wearing a “mask” is why we continue to see people wearing “masks.” It is rare to see a person walking around with their fly open and their penis hanging out because most of us won’t pretend not to see that.
We can pretend, of course, that’s it’s all over – but isn’t that another variant of mental illness? Put another way, by pretending not to see the “mask” as the sign that it isn’t over, don’t we risk a . . . surge in “mask” wearing, again?
All it will take is another bout of “the cases! the cases!” – and not very many of them, either. In Honduras, the Health Ministry reports that six people have died with “COVID” so far this year. The word is italicized to emphasize that the dead were “among patients with underlying conditions.” There it is again, like the mold in the closet that keeps coming back no matter how many times you wipe down the walls with bleach. Old, decrepit and already sick people do stand a greater chance of dying if they catch a cold are being used to draw a false equivalence as regards the general threat of “COVID, which for young, otherwise healthy people is essentially nil beyond a week or two of cold/flu-like symptoms.
Lorenzo Pavon, who is apparently the Honduran head of Health Surveillance (creepy title, that) says “We have already surpassed last year’s infection limit; there are currently five people admitted to Hospital Escuela with suspected COVID-19.”
Sound the alarm! Everyone into the basement!

That is what would have stopped the spread last time and that is what it will take to stop it from spreading again, this time.

His roommate had the intelligence of maybe a three year-old, never separated soiled clothing from the clean. Totally clueless, the roommate’s mind was very happy, regardless of his lot in life.
All have to have help to stay alive, some are in wheelchairs, some just not there at all, resources are needed to keep them alive, no other choice.

I decided, during the early days of the “pandemic,” to not play along whatever the cost. I was prepared to be arrested/jailed or defend myself physically, if it came down to it. The bottom line is I wasn’t going to wear a “mask.” Not even if it meant I could not visit my declining mother in the Memory Care joint. I am just as ready to fight again, if need be. Not because I am a tough guy. I’m just a guy who has had enough and is done putting up with it.
