Here is today’s Clover!
He’s a Clover Conga Leader. We’ve all come across them. They are the ones with several cars stacked up behind them – and more stacking up all the time, chiefly because what happens is the first car that rolls up behind the Clover won’t pass – probably because he’s afraid of getting a ticket for “speeding,” since it is difficult to pass safely without “speeding.” The Clover’s doing 47 in a 55. You’d need a long passing zone to get by the Clover in good time without going considerably faster than 55, but that’s illegal “speeding.” so many drivers won’t even make the attempt.
Then comes another car – and he’d have to pass the two cars ahead (the Clover at the front of the line and the car just behind the Clover). He’d have to really rip to get past the two and back in the lane before the passing zone ended. So he doesn’t, because (again) the possibility of getting a ticket for “speeding.” So now there are three cars behind the Clover and passing is nigh impossible for the fourth and fifth cars in line. Good thing new cars have good stereos and LCD touchscreens to play with while you wait.

They waste your time without your permission, and screw up traffic flow. I have always left early to get to appointments now I leave even earlier due to screwy traffic. The 9 minute trip into town now can be 10 to 15. The head scratching at the round about near town adds to the joy. The other route across the river adds about 2 miles but near zero traffic and no round about dodge ‘em to deal with. It’s getting to be the less maddening choice especially on the scooter. Less chance at getting pasted by a wayward driver or semi.
In town it’s a real issue as the left turn light is a quick cycle but oh no, creep away and thus 2 cars make the light where 4 should. In an unbelievable act of common sense the left turn signals in town now go from green to yellow flashing so when the approaching traffic clears still a “legal” left is possible. Unless a dozing clover is in front.
