Funding The Gimp

It’s been disclosed that Oracle’s chief Larry Ellison has made a $1 billion “donation” to keep Tesla limping along.

Well, at least for once it’s not the taxpayers footing the bill.

But it is revelatory.

The 74-year-old Ellison is the ninth-richest person in the world, with an estimated net worth of more than $51 beeeelll-yon dollars. Automotive News reports that he owns three million shares through something called the the Lawrence J. Ellison Revocable Trust.
Paraphrasing Dishonest Abe: EVs are of, by and for the rich.

Not that there is anything wrong with being rich. But there is something very wrong with people worth beeeeeeeellllll-yons not grokking – or caring about – the cost imposition of their beloved electric toys on people who do not even have meeeeelll- yons to throw around on extravagant, virtue-signaling indulgences.
It is arguable that guys like Ellison – ad Musk, who is Ellison’s friend – are so rich that they are so out of touch with the problems facing the two-legged cattle (that’s us) as to be oblivious to them.
What, after all, is $40,000 or so – the cost of the more “affordable” electric cars – to a billionaire or even a millionaire? It is to them what spending $10 on a whim is to people of average means.
This may be the fundamental reason for EV Dementia – if it’s not a deliberate, malignant plot – which may very well be the case.
If not, it could just be a case of out-of-touchness.

Ellison being Exhibit A.

    • Watched this…. the only thing I’m sure of is that the profit on the sale was booked in the Tesla results for the quarter…. Im really starting to suspect the car perhaps didn’t even exist and they needed to show sales, or perhaps they sold it numerous times…… otherwise how hard can it be to get a used car to a customer… if you read the comments on the video tons of people are having similar issues!!

    • RK,

You got me excited for a minute. I thought it was a Guppy.

After looking at the picture in your link, my question is, can it take off?

I’ve heard stories of guys having to ship the seats back from Mexico City in the summer time.

Altitude may be your friend, but density altitude can be a bitch.
