Apparently – so it appears – the United States is on the verge of launching a major attack on another nation that hasn’t attacked the United States nor even been accused of preparing to attack the United States.
More finely, the president of the United States is about to launch an attack – on his own say-so. No declaration of war, per the Constitution.
It is bizarre. It is cognitively dissonant. It is incandescently hypocritical.
Does anyone remember the howling that emanated in certain quarters when the German Reich of 1939 attacked another nation that had not attacked it? (This howling was curiously mute when the Soviet Union attacked that same nation just a couple of weeks later.) More finely, when the Fuhrer of the German Reich ordered the invasion, on his own say-so?
At any rate, the unprovoked attack by the German Reich was said to be a war crime, it being unprovoked and contrived and entailing mass death and destruction visited upon not just another nation but the civilian population of that nation. “Democracy” was in danger, went the howl.
After the German Reich was defeated, its remaining political and military leadership was brought to trial and most ended up being hanged. Of course, it was a show trial. The Soviets sent a judge – the same judge who had presided over the show trials in Moscow before the war. It was a foregone conclusion that the men would hang – even men who were merely unpleasant, such as the publisher Julius Streicher – who no one even alleged had actually (personally) killed anyone.
The victorious powers strutted proudly. They were the Good Guys. Never mind that they had gotten into bed with a very Bad Guy – Joseph Stalin. And never mind that the originally affronted nation (Poland) was now the chattel property of the Soviet Union.
War Crimes – according to the plain standard laid down at Nuremburg – are apparently not when the victorious powers commit them. The United States commits them so regularly that the moral sense has been dulled; most Americans accept the latest bombing of people who didn’t bomb them as a kind of red, white and blue prerogative and – besides – it doesn’t affect us so who cares?
What if this time, it does?
Trump – the man who ran explicitly on his many promises made that he was not like all the war criminals that preceded him, that he understood it was not just wrong but not good for America to be constantly bombing other nations that had not bombed us – has become the most aggressive bomb-lobber and prima facie war criminal since Lyndon Johnson. He now appears to be on the verge of ordering a massive bombing of Iran, a nation that – again, because it bears repeating – has not done anything that could be characterized as threatening to the United States. The idea that if Iran manages to develop a couple of first-generation atomic bombs, it might use them against the United States is sheer idiocy that only an idiot could believe to be a real possibility.
It is a fomented mass hysteria.
One that – like “COVID” – is fomented to further an agenda. An agenda that has no more to do with keeping America “safe” than all of the “COVID” kabuki had to do with “stopping the spread.”
But Iran having a couple of first-generation bombs would stymie the state of Israel’s determination to end Iran’s status as a regional power to be reckoned with. This why the Gerald Ford and a huge array of airplanes and bombs and missiles have been “deployed” to within easy striking distance of Iran. To put it bluntly, Trump is about to attack Iran because the state of Israel needs Iran to be attacked. This is not an “ant-Semitic” statement because it says nothing negative about people who happen to be Jewish. It is a statement about the war-mongering of the State of Israel and a statement about the fact that this state has acquired operative control over the United States.
We – Americans – have no dog in this fight. So why are Americans about to get into this fight? It is not necessary to say why. It is as obvious as the true reason for forcing “masks” on Americans.
Of course, this sort of thing has been fun and games – so to speak – so far, because the United States has been the IDF soldier, armored-up, screeching Stop Resisting! at the woman he’s in the process of beating. What if the victim, this time, proves capable of putting up a real fight?
This happened last time. The Israelis bombed – and the Iranians bombed back, convincingly. The bombing stopped because the Iranians were bombing back convincingly. This is a fact worth considering.
It is also worth considering what the cost – and effect – might prove to be if the Iranians, when we bomb them, sink the Gerald Ford, close the Strait of Hormuz and inflict catastrophic damage upon Our Greatest Ally, such that Our Greatest Ally goes berserk and uses the nuclear capability it has (far greater than any capability the Iranians have and in defiance of “international law”) to even the score.
This is not just a war crime in the making. It is potentially a war that could quickly get entirely out of hand, and end up costing millions of people their lives.
Why?
It is a question almost no seems to be asking. It is certainly one Trump has given no answer to that makes any sense to anyone not out of their senses.

Lesser ships are poor designs, like the USS Cole, where a single suicide bomber in a RIB can sink it. But in an active war zone they have to get close through an array of sophisticated defenses.
The real strategic flaw is the nature of ultra expensive, scarce weapons systems- they rely on a robust, distributed, in depth industrial base run by committed citizens. The very thing that America was in 1980, which has been pissed away by greedy traitors for almost 50 years. A real war lasting over a few weeks will be lost by the US. The only thing left is the nuclear triad.
It is in nobody’s interest to go nuclear, regardless of hypersonic or anti missile defenses, some are going to get through. Israel has the Samson option, where pre positioned nukes can ignite the victim country into blind rage and unthinking response.
