Even if they did an expose it wouldn’t tell anyone something they didn’t already know. People who pay attention are angry, those who don’t pay attention don’t care. Most of them are benefiting as members of the foodchain getting their chum scraps.

I don’t know what you mean by “business friendly”. If its bog-standard corruption, your state, and likely your county have laws and ordinances against it. The most important elected office in the nation is your sheriff. He’s the real pointy end of the spear in every county. He’s the one authorized to run the carpetbaggers out of town. It’s absolutely essential you have the right man for sheriff.
Business friendly in that buildings suddenly got torn down and construction started without so much as the 30 day sign from the county planning department with a file number for public comment and question. They had canned projects ready to roll, obviously developed in the 2 months between election and swearing-in. When I say business I include our local university, which being a state-chartered entity is exempt from county planning and building rules. The city council gave them a chunk of public land, the corner of a big city park, for a sweetheart 99-year lease after two monthly council meetings where citizen after citizen said no, we don’t want them building a 2-story facility for their sportball teams that will tower over our homes. The only speaker in favor was the college president, who they exempted from the 3-minute comment time limit.

Actually, if we look at history since the formation of the Middle Class we will see a continuity that when the Middle Class starts generating wealth that is when a redistribution of it occurs. The industrial age and Roaring Twenties led to the Great Depression, the increase in assets from the 1950s/1960s led to the inflation of the 1970s and 1980s and the crumbling of small businesses under the Savings and Loan crisis, the economic boom of the Computer Age led to The Great Recession, the expansion of the Internet and businesses led to the Plandemic. Now, we are sitting on the edge again with the Stock Market at all new highs because of AI. What will happen? Another transfer of wealth to the elites. It is just a matter of time.

I agree with you that it is unfair to blame the Boomers. Actually, in a short amount of time we will probably feel sympathy for them. The Boomers (and maybe a few older Gen Xers) are holding the last of Middle Class wealth. Guess where it is at? The Stock Market. Guess what is going to go down? The Stock Market.
Will assets appreciate again? Yes. They always do, but it is an ugly cyclical tide that we watch ebb and flow generation after generation. The Middle Class will rebuild, because human beings are resilient, but unless the Middle Class start thinking like the rich by using the same structures and policies that they use the constant restructuring will continue.

We “boomers” (das bin ich, YOB = 1949) have been granted a mercy, known as a HECM, again “insured” by FHA (MMI = 0.5%), to compensate for evaporated old age pensions. There will be no intergenerational transfer of wealth. It. goes without saying that younger generations may find it next to impossible to acquire real property.
And how will FedGov “solve” the SS funding crisis? Simple. Lie about the annual inflation rate. This is happening as we speak. Compare the actual inflation in price of food and fuel to FedGov’s “official” rate of price inflation.
In many cases, the actual rate may be as high as ~50%, whereas FedGov decrees it to be 3.6%.

I have thought about the housing sector that Gen Z and Alpha are being alienated from and what I have come with (and have done) is go the multi-generational land route. I think that is where we are headed as a country. It will be 3-4 generations living on a spread together. If the land is large enough (and the county allows it) the land can be subdivided into family parcels which can then be built upon for parents, siblings, children, grandchildren, etc.
Of course, with the data centers and corporations buying up huge plots of land this is getting harder and harder to do. Some land is not buildable, others will take tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands to bring in utilities, excavating, wells, septic systems, etc. to make it habitable.
I think families (at least those that like each other) need to start thinking long term, because places like subdivisions will become a problem as companies continue to go in and buy up what is for sale. The current housing market is not feasible and I think to be successful with what is coming down the pike we need to think outside the box. A multi generational compound and coupled resources may be a way around it.
Interesting proposal, RG, but if you continually subdivide, you end up in th same place, ITLR. Geometric increase, you see. Better to keep the parcel intact, and create your own fiefdom, perhaps. But what size population can it support?

Creating our own fiefdom is the goal. On every 10 acres basically allow three homes. The subdividing must stay in the family. Our county allows for the parcel (a minimum of two acres) can be subdivided to a family member and then must be held for ten years before it is sold. The stipulation in the fiefdom contract is that the land/house can be sold at anytime for the FMW, but it goes back into the family pot.
I figured it would probably work for about three generations before it all goes to hell. š

No, not ZPG, but I don’t expect everyone’s family to want to live within the fiefdom and honestly, I don’t expect too many to have kids. They are expensive little critters. I wish we could go back to the days of yore in regards to the nuclear family, but I really don’t see society trending that way, including my own.
Personally, I will be shocked if either of my children marry and have families. My son is a no and my daughter is a maybe. This way they at least will have their own places to live their own lives. If they don’t wish to live on the family farm I can move in my parents or one of my sisters and BILs or nieces and nephews.
The goal is to continue to buy the surrounding land. It is all farmland and I expect many of the younger generations probably do not want to be so far out of town or deal with the maintenance of it.
But, you are absolutely right about the inter vivos trust. My parents is setup that way. We need to do the same.

Two acres of the property is ponds/gardens that is available for chickens, goats/sheep, fruit trees, greenhouses, etc. We have a long way to go before we reach that, but I have the berry bushes in the ground and a pond stocked with fish. š
We have a lot more than the 10, so it didn’t really matter that they make us subdivide, but it changes rules on building. Specifically, the wife and I can assist to the limit of gifting, but our kids actually have to take out the mortgage.
But its working out great! All we have to do to visit the granddaughter is hop on the 4-wheeler. DIL is still hesitant about shared meals, but we get together at least once a week to grill, or smoke a brisket, or something.

Surprisingly, I haven’t gotten too much pushback with what the husband and I are doing. I expected a lot more “You are spoiling them. They need to be on their own.” Blah, blah, blah. I did the math and I don’t see how a couple of 20 year olds or even 30 year olds are able to afford a home in this day and age.
It can. We ended up having to buy out my son (28 YO) and DIL’s place, (which we had unwittingly given them the downpayment for) to enable them to have the cash flow to qualify for the mortgage, but far and away, the biggest hurdle was the $180k my DIL took out in student loans. We had to pay off about 2/3 of it for their numbers to work.
Far and away, the GOV taking over student loans put kids where they are today. It inflated the price of college, sent scads of people to college who should never have been there, and put them in heap big debt. Which is insane, because, FI, my DIL (who had been dating my son since his early teens) always planned to be a stay-at-home, so WTF was the reason to get a bogus degree to work as a checkout at Walmart?

Quite the opposite. It makes sense for a family to pull together. So long as the kids aren’t lazy – so long as they are working to build a life – helping them is reasonable and right, in my view. If I had a son, I’d absolutely let him build a place on the land he’d end up inheriting anyhow. The time to help a kid is when they need help – in their teens and 20s – not when they’re 60.

So long as Congress keeps growing the debt by ~$2tn that money ends up somewhere. Some of it ends up in inflation, sure, but not very much. Almost all the rest ends up in equity appreciation, per Cantillon effect. The primary “inflation” manifests in the kinds of things the first recipients buy.
If Congress were to start living within their means, it would mean, at best, a flat stock market. But, realistically, they are not going to become responsible.
It is illegal to sell drugs and the sale of alcohol and tobacco are heavily regulated and the income tax continues after August 1971 (formal end of the gold standard) all for the same reason: Just anyone cannot be allowed to become rich. You don’t have to have family connections, just business sense, to do well selling intoxicants and tobacco (and guns), and that is why they are illegal or heavily regulated. And with no income tax, anyone with discipline can save enough to buy assets.
Can’t have that in the land of the free and land of opportunity. You are right about the continuous sustained attack on the middle class. Huey Long said what keeps billionaires up at night was not the security of their millions in the bank, but the $5 in their worker’s wallet. I’m not religious, but setting that aside, I have never understood the zero-sum mentality some people have. Put another way: How much is enough? For me, “enough” is enough to be financially secure, defined as not having to worry about being able to pay ordinary bills, to have a paid-for home, to be able to indulge a little. I’d like for others to enjoy the same and I think it’s in everyone’s interest that others enjoy the same. Mind, I am not talking about wealth redistribution. I am talking about decency. Henry Ford paid his workers a decent wage; everyone benefitted. The extractive mentality benefits only the few at the expense of the many. It is a mindset devoid of decency.

Prices are always asymptotically determined by the amount consumers are willing to spend. Quantity produced is always asymptotically determined by the producers. All tariffs did was reduce quantity, which revealed something closer to the true value consumers assigned to various goods.
Who actually paid the tariffs is an accounting question. But I’m virtually certain that almost nobody paid $245 for a Chinese-made appliance that used to be $100. Maybe $150, but that means he paid $50 and someone else paid the other $95.

I’ve been reading about WWII where people were saying better Hitler than Stalin–didn’t want commies taking their property. You say you don’t listen to what Trump says anymore because it’s always a lie, but saying over and over again going to obliterate somebody/something no-one is surprised when “finally” does it. Each time he says it the outrage/unacceptability of it gets less.

Invading a large country on the other side of the world would require a massive number of CONSCRIPTED young American men and the likelihood of actually achieving your goal is pretty much less zero as people will actually fight to defend their territory no matter how much they hate their current rulers, as Hitler found out with Operation Barbarossa. The amount of death and destruction, both Russian, Chinese AND AMERICANS would have been enormous, and to what end? The reinstallation of Chiang Kai-shek and the Romanovs? From my reading, Hitler was sentimental. He considered the Duce his friend; not merely an ally. It was foolish of Hitler to delay Barbarossa. I was even more so to think he could deal with England gently. Once the juggernaut in the West began – and once he had the DEF cornered at Dunkirk – he ought to have demanded its surrender and if the answer was no, he ought to have annihilated it. Either outcome would likely have forced Churchill to resign and his successor to seek peace. It is a catastrophe to lose the initiative when you have it. To show mercy to a foe who has not yet been beaten.
