The Left’s dishonesty manifests in so many ways. One way is the Left’s endless harping about “diversity” when what the Left always demands is uniformity.
Superficial differences are obsessed over.
Every TV commercial must have a representative of each race – else it’s “racist.” And sex, too – which is fungible according to the Left – although the same fungibility is intolerable to the Left when its assertion annoys the Left. As for instance when someone who doesn’t wish to be “vaccinated” but identifies as having been “vaccinated” is fired from his job by a Leftist Human Resources manager.
Meaningful differences are impermissible to the Left, even when the not-Left is more than willing to leave Leftists free to hew to their uniformity.
The past going-on-three years have provided a number of stark examples of this insistence on . . . uniformity.
For the Left, it is not enough that they are free to stay home, to close the doors of their businesses and to practice various strange ritual behaviors, which they believe ward off airborne diseases.
It is required behavior – for all.
That is the “diversity” of the Left.
There is also abortion – a more honest term for the choice to end a developing human life than the evasive non-sequitur, “reproductive rights” – which few, if any question. Who is arguing that women shouldn’t be free to reproduce? The matter at hand is whether they have the moral right to end a developing life that most of them chose to conceive by choosing to have sex. That ought to be the discussion – for the same reason that paying the bill after a meal you just ate is not a question of “restaurant choice.”
The Left, being illiberal, does not want conversation – about anything. It is not interested in getting at the truth and then abiding by it.
It is why Leftists get so angry when someone points out the incongruity of Leftist positions, such as the one about “my body, my choice,” except when it comes to “vaccines.”
Because the Left is only interested in power.
Its power.
Superficial arguments are used to further that end – and abandoned when they no longer further it. Observe, for example, that Leftist politicians such as Bernie Sanders – who once decried the power of Big Pharma – now defend it, Big Pharma having become a tool of Leftists such as Bernie Sanders. 
There is also the Left’s abandonment of its pretended reverence for free speech – once it acquired the power to suppress it.
When the Left did not control the universities it protested vehemently for the “free speech” which it now denies anyone who questions the Left, at universities now controlled by the Left. It’s the same – and worse – as regards the “media,” most especially what is styled “social media,” all of it under the dominion of the Left.
Once one understands the Left – which more people than ever are beginning to – one begins to understand there can be no middle ground, because the Left is never satisfied unless the not-Left is ceding ground.
That the Left will not stop until there is no ground left for the not-Left to stand upon.
It is the same attitude as that which resulted, ultimately, in what is referred to by Leftists (and those who don’t realize they have been programmed by Leftists) as the “Civil War” – which of course was no such thing as the states which comprised the Southern Confederacy did not seek to control the federal government but rather, to get away from it. A civil war has always been defined as a war between factions for control of the whole. The English civil war, for example, was a civil war. But Leftists redefined the attempt by the Southern states to secede – and the federal government’s refusal to let them peacefully leave the “union” as a “civil war.” Very much of a piece with the Left’s redefinition of “vaccines,” which were once defined as conferring immunity upon the vaccinated person.
The period we’re living in would likely be familiar to the people who lived during the years just prior to the attempt by the Southern states to secede from a union they no longer wished to be part of, because the union was controlled, politically, by the federal government and the federal government was under the control, electorally, of the Northern states.
It was not slavery, per se, that the Southern states sought to perpetuate by seceding. It was the realization that the Northern states would never rest until the Southern states bent knee to the power of the Northern states, regardless of the wishes of the people of the Southern states to live their own way rather than the Northern way. This included being taxed by the Northern states to finance the ongoing marginalization of the Southern states by the Northern states, a compound-interest version of what Jefferson meant when he described the tyranny of being forced to provide funds for the propagation of ideas the person being made to finance their propagation considers abhorrent.
Well, here we are – again. Perhaps because of where we have been.
Had the North allowed what the Left never allows and let the Southern states secede – let them go in, peace – it is unlikely we’d be where we are, today. There would be a place for people who think their way is the only way – and those who’d rather go their own way. It is why – originally – there were 13 states, plural, not one state, united (at gunpoint).
The people of the original thirteen states – North and South – considered their states to be their countries and if this one or that one wasn’t for you, there were other countries that might be and which you were free to go to and live in, if you didn’t like it where you were.
That safety valve was closed by what is styled the “civil war.” Its closing assured that pressure would build, because it had no way to dissipate. That pressure now threatens an explosion, once again – if a way is not soon found to relieve it.
As then, this could be done – peacefully – if the other side would allow it. Now – as then – one side (the not-Left side) is more than willing to left Leftists live as they wish to live, in an authoritarian beehive of uniformity. It is merely that the not-Left prefers not to live in it.
The two sides could get along, if they weren’t living in the same country. Just as a divorced couple can be civil toward one another once they’re no longer living in the same house.
But it requires a divorce, first.
This would be stressful, as most divorces are. But it need not be rancorous, let alone violent – provided both parties agree that the separation is necessary; that it is the only way to resolve differences that have become irreconcilable. How this would flesh out in our day isn’t so much the issue as the necessity of the fleshing out. For if not, it is certain the pressure will continue building until, one day, it results in an explosion worse than the one that occurred in 1861.
Far better to relieve the pressure by accepting our irreconcilable differences – and letting each other go our separate ways, in peace.

Very well stated. It is in fact a choice. That is one of the rare silver linings to the dark cloud of tyranny of the last two plus years. Many families learned that they could survive on one income. Many more found it better to home school, than send their children off to the public indoctrination centers. That is why courses like Ron Paul’s home school system are so important.

I agree with you. I practice this, myself. Just say no – to Face Diapers, for instance. It doesn’t take a hero to tell a 17-year-old kid at Kroger holding out a Face Diaper, No. Apply the principle, generally. I ignore/evade “the law” whenever I consider “the law” to be stupid or tyrannical (or both). The feeling is empowering!
Not only did I refuse to wear a mask, I purposely walked the opposite way down the directional arrowed aisles and did not practice social distancing. I got looks from people (I didn’t and still don’t care). I had to tell a few maskhole shoppers to “f#ck off” to which they dutifully complied. I took time to congratulate other shoppers who thought as I did and refused to mask up or follow other “mandates”.
In such situations, it helps to have a scowl on your face, warning others to “leave me the f#ck alone”. It almost always works.

That is why I keep coming back to the principles that Lind teaches.

A bit of good news though – I admire the 22-year-old guy, Dicken, that shot the little prick (Sapirman) in the Greenwood Park Mall in Indiana on Sunday. He reacted in 15 seconds and shot him 8 out of 10 times. Not all men are cowards. That is pretty impressive for such a young man to keep his cool and return fire so adequately. He saved dozens of lives, and he did it by breaking the rules (illegally carrying). There are a few kids that give me hope that society may still have a chance to redeem itself.

reach the conclusion that we are pacifists? Simply because we abide by the NAP (Non Aggression Principle) doesn’t mean that we don’t believe that counter force isn’t to be used.
We simply refuse to initiate violence. We have no problem in responding to initiated violence, with what ever level of counter force is required. Protecting yourself and your family is a personal responsibility. Which is why the vast majority of the libertarians I know,
tend to be well armed and well trained. Its a rather odd “utopia” that expects everyone to be armed, and responsible for themselves and their families.

It is interesting to note that, in these cases where homosexuals wanted to “prove a point”, they bypassed many bakeries who would accede to their wishes and give them what they desire. As an aside, muslim bakers who refused to bake homosexual-themed cakes were NOT targeted for “civil-rights” violations—double standard, indeed.
This kind of behavior garners no favors with most decent people and furthers resolve against militant homosexuals who want not only toleration, but total “in your face” acceptance of their “lifestyle”–something that some people find that does not “square” with their beliefs.
It appears that the success of “equal rights” for homosexuals has renewed a push to “normalize” other behaviors, such as “transsexuality”, “cross-dressing”, and other “gender fluidity” behaviors. There is even a push by pedophiles and their advocates to redefine (decriminalize and normalize) their behavior, renaming it “minor-attracted adults” rather than the perversion that it is presently defined as. The “slippery slope” started with the normalization of homosexuality, and has degenerated into the demands for acceptance of every form of human dysfunction.
Homosexual adoption of children should be outlawed. Placing children in homosexual “households” is child abuse in itself.
Interviews with children who were raised in homosexual households invariably have one common note. These children KNEW “something was wrong”, something was “missing in their lives”, not having two parents, one of the opposite sex.
“Live and let live” used to be a staple of American society, but was eviscerated with every “protected group” using the so-called “civil-rights” laws to force others to not only tolerate them, but making demands to accept them. Not good…

Today, po-lice known as School Resource officers run around with guns strapped to their hips identifying themselves as the ‘authority’. Like most ‘officers’ they are rude and offensive to the children and parents that actually fund all this. Like most ‘officers’ today they are cowards when/if the time comes to defend children,,,, Uvalde anyone….

I think the problem with many (not all) of those who are labeled Millennials and Gen Zers is a lack of confidence. Something that many (not all) Boomers and Gen Xers (their parents) failed at. These “kids” have no idea how to think. They are so desperate to conform because our generations wanted to make it easy for them. I grew up a latch key kid as did most of my generation. Mom and Dad both worked long hours and the cleaning, cooking, and general responsibilities fell on my sisters and me.
Today, we have kids involved in so many activities and constantly on the run that they do not have time to enjoy the freedom that our generations had. We do them a disservice. Many can’t handle the most basic of decisions as young adults and end up failing because they were wrongly taught “everyone is a winner”. Wrong! Failure makes one tougher. It is how we learn not to repeat certain mistakes. We didn’t want our kids to struggle so we made sure they didn’t. We (generalization, not us, personally) created the little monsters of today.
Even as parents see the destruction that the school system and society are doing to their kids they won’t fight back. Parents are losing to Big Brother and wokeism. This is an easy battle to win, but parents must make decisions now and not cross their fingers and say, “my kid will be fine, I hope.”

I agree with your summary – as a Gen X latchkey kid myself. Your experience dovetails with my own. When I got home from school, I was on my own. Walked the long way from the bus-stop drop-off point at the bottom of the road to our subdivision to the house, let myself in – and then did what I wanted, which was usually hop on my bike and go find my friends or just knock around the neighborhood. We all did this. There wasn’t endless homework and scripted/organized activities. A few of us played organized sports. None of us played them every day or every other day, even. Many of us spent our free time – and we had a lot of it – exploring and adventuring; in other words, developing our sense of independence. By the time we were 15, we usually had part-time jobs and were champing at the bit to get our driver’s licenses – after which we were young adults and already well on our way to becoming adults.
Kids who have every moment of their free time scripted, who are driven everywhere by parents who hover over them remain children, often well into adult.

The government did not hold a gun to my mother’s head and state, “go to work.” Mothers (and fathers) choose to work or not. The government has more control over those that dont produce because the independent do not need Uncle Sam to survive.
I am a working mother. I also homeschool my children. I think it is extremely unfair to tell a woman “you are now a mother, stay home.” Over 30% of marriages now end in divorce. Should a woman just hope her man doesn’t hightail it out for a newer and younger model to replace her? No home, no money, no job and most important, no independence. Where does a woman with no money go? Oh yeah, to the State.
The beginning of the end of the nuclear family did not begin with women working outside the home, but parents not paying attention to the indoctrination by the state through public schooling. Even with Mom at home Johnny and Susie were still attending daily lessons created by Uncle Sam. I know a handful of women that stay home and their children are no more well adjusted or capable than mine. The difference? Mine stayed out of the system and were reared by my husband and myself. Whether I held a job or not was irrelevant to their upbringing other than they went on nicer vacations.

This may just be one guys experience but most (almost all) of the women that have “made moves” on me were in a relationship or married. These are not few and far between incidents and It’s fucking disturbing. They always seem to keep a backup cock strung along as a plan B if they’re not outright soliciting for an affair or fling. In regard to today’s divorce statistics, I do agree with you. During the present time women do initiate the majority of divorces, but I don’t blame it on women working. I blame it on the “me, me, me” and victim mentality complex that is mandated from cradle to grave through today’s education systems. Strong parents create strong kids. Weak parents create weak kids. When Mom and Dad don’t care what Burt and Agnes are doing, Burt and Agnes are going to learn the system through anyone who is willing to teach them (aka Uncle Sam and his weirdos).
Every woman in my family worked while I was growing up – my mom, my aunts, and my grandmothers. My sisters and I learned you cannot rely on anyone else for what you need. What woman wants to ask her husband $150 for groceries each week, $50 for a haircut, or $30 for a new shirt? They are our partners, not our keepers. At the same time, women also have a responsibility to contribute. All of the pressure should not be put on the man to keep a roof over one’s head.
When March 2020 and the Plandemic arrived, my husband was laid off for 5 months. What were we going to do…starve? He didn’t sit home all day – he did jobs on the side – heating/air repairs, painting, excavating, etc., but it was my paycheck that kept us going until the lockdowns were over. I remember the same thing growing up as the Steamfitters Union laid my father off during the 1980s (once right on Christmas Eve…that was a fun Christmas). My mother’s job at the telephone company kept a roof over our heads and food in our belly.
While the men went overseas to Europe and Japan during World War II it was the women in the US that kept the steel plants and farmland going. There wasn’t an influx of divorce during this time, because the purpose was to work together, and everyone did what they needed to do. There is a different mentality today. People don’t want to work as hard…not only for a job, but in a relationship, on their house, or rearing their children. Selfishness has replaced commitment.

It’s worth considering that we all have our experiences and outcomes, but anecdotal stories tend to not translate to widespread knowledge….that said, I am older, though certainly no wiser than most of the people here…..an early boomer….perhaps you are right. In my parents’ generation, divorce was uncommon, especially in Catholic couples. The education system was largely government propaganda even then, but it was also different. The depression years starting in 1929 occurred starting when my parents were teenagers. This had a huge effect on that generations psychological reality. They were used to real deprivation. As an aside, my mother, an second generation Italian from the tenements of South Boston, absolutely hated FDR and the Kennedy clan. In any case, for my parents, and especially my mother, learning the basics of reading, writing, math etc. was an obsession so all of my siblings and I could read before we started school. In public school, in the poorest state in the union, actual learning took place early and kids were actually graded on their performance…..but in terms of how history and government/civics were taught, there was a real element of propaganda and unlike math where answers were either graded as right or wrong, regurgitation of propaganda was rewarded. It’s worth acknowledging that public schools in the U.S. started in 1850 in Massachusetts using the Prussian model, which essentially preached all must bow to the omnipotent state. The current model of education is the inevitable extension of that model.
The other relevant note from my childhood was that my mother did actually return to work after we were old enough and I grew up in towns where the concept of a latch-key child was unknown as people did not lock their houses up. Also, if one egregiously fucked up, the neighbors had permission to correct the behaviours. But my story is possibly of little relevance as well.
Perhaps this Fourth Turning as Howe and Strauss style it will occur according to some pattern….IMO, most such predictions fail miserably but that does not mean the concept is useless. From the individual’s perspective, what matters is less the global aspects, over which he or she essentially has no control or input, but rather what can be done for survival at the individual and/or local level. I commend you, RG, on homeschooling your kids….you are giving them an incredible advantage. If you don’t mind my asking, are you using a particular curriculum?

When I first began I followed the Abeka curriculum. As the kids have gotten older I am more of an unschooler. We teach what they want to learn. I choose five to six classic novels a year for them to read and we focus on math, but we can veer off into any avenue that we feel like….various historical eras, animal husbandry, geopolitics, diet and nutrition, economics, etc.
My feeling is once a child has the basics of math, reading, and writing down I let them choose what they find interesting. It isn’t an approach that most would follow, but it works for us.

I see you also focused on education, rather than indoctrination. We followed a similar path with ours. Heavy focus on reading (starting with reading stories from a very early age). Then, after they learned to love books, the focus was on the proper reading method. Then basic math. Then learning to do basic math in their head. Then basic science, history (with a focus on who did what to whom, and how did they get away with it, or not. Also, “History is the comforting lies we tell each other”.) Then basic economics (Austrian of course). After having a good basic education, the focus was on what they found interesting. All along that path, the focus was on critical thinking. There is a vast difference between being taught how to think, as opposed to what to think. If more people had invested the time and effort we have, the world wouldn’t be in the dire situation that we find ourselves in. I wish you and yours all the best of luck. We are all going to need it.

I’m pretty sure your approach is fairly brilliant. Just as an aside, I attended the Mises Institute supporters summit which was frelling awesome. One of the panelists for the discussion of education was a 53 year old mother who had homeschooled her children with a ton of success and it sounded very similar to your approach. I’ll never forget her closing statement as she turned to the audience with the passionate plea, “If you truly love your children, take them out of the public education system” (as I remember it that was a paraphrase). The woman was a beautiful individual both physically and intellectually and her plea rang true for me.

I did not say government held a gun to any mother’s head and forced them to work. I said the tax bill forced many to do so. I did not suggest that mother’s should be forced to “stay home”. Regarding divorce impoverishing women, perhaps you have missed some current events. For some time now it’s the husband that gets taken to the cleaners in divorce court. I do not begrudge any woman who want’s to work. I do begrudge an economy controlled by the state that compels women to work who would rather be home raising their children, instead of public schools pretending they do. How many more would be homeschooled if more mothers that wished to could afford to stay home and do so? I do applaud you and what you are doing with your kids, but I suspect that in your business a great deal of your work is done at home. While the kids don’t have your undivided attention while you do so, you are there, should need arise. My point being, many, if not most mothers are not given a choice. Because their cumulative tax bill is precious close to 50%. How convenient.
What tax bill would that be, John? In 2020 61% of all tax filers paid $0 in federal income taxes. Zero. Zilch.

I am against taxes, but taxes are not such inconceivable amounts that it forces another parent to work, this would actually increase taxes, since both spouses would be pushed into a higher tax bracket. If two parents are working it is because they want certain things…a bigger house, two or three cars, private school, name brand clothing, electronics, etc.
I actually work in an office and not from home. For several years my children went into the office with me. The days that I had to be on a client site or had customer appointments I hired a babysitter. As my children got older they had a list of chores and studies to complete and they stayed home.
I know very few women that would prefer to stay home, rather than work. The majority that I know do not wish to be with their children. Of course, this isn’t every woman, but many find it stifling to be with their kids all day which is why Johnny and Susie are in the public school system.
It is still possible for a family to live off one income in this country.
