In London, the gang that legally controls the city – i.e., “the government” – is “cracking down” on what it calls “anti-social driving.” This encompasses the “noise, unsafe driving habits of owners and pollution produced by high-end rides,” according to an approving Green Red scribbler, Erin Marquis. She, like others of her tribe, unconsciously amens the anti-car, anti-driving narrative – which begs an interesting question. Why do people such as she find jobs writing about cars and driving? They are like people who loathe fast-food finding employment writing about McDonald’s.
Anyhow, the government – this organization that imposes its will on everyone and styles this “the law” – has gone after these “anti-social” drivers (and their cars) with a vengeance. More finely, a government apparat – the Motor Insurers’ Bureau – “cracked down” on these “anti-social” drivers, some of whom did not have the required insurance.
This of course is a lot like not having the required mask – let’s never forget this latter business – in that in both instances the requiring is premised on the neurotic-tyrannical assertion that someone else might be harmed and so pre-cautionary punishment is warranted.
Well, men have penises and a penis has the potential to harm a woman (or a man, for that matter) who doesn’t want it inside them. But the fact that a man has a penis does not mean he has raped anyone. We don’t – yet – require men to wear special restraint underwear or to carry Rape Insurance. But that’s probably coming, because why wouldn’t it? If a man can be forced to wear a mask because someone else worries that man might be an “asymptomatic spreader” – and if the owner of a vehicle that isn’t “covered” can have his vehicle seized and impounded because someone worries he might damage someone else’s car and leave them holding the bag for the cost of repairs – then why not require men to wear special restraint underwear and also carry Rape Insurance to “cover” the potential costs of medical treatment and so on that might accrue if they rape someone?
Logic – like math – is hard.
This Motor Insurers’ Bureau is also just exactly that – in that it is literally a bureau. That is, an apparat of the government. It is like the DMV in the United States, except it has police powers. It is like the DMV – rather than the police – performing the roadside Hut! Hut! Hut! for some arbitrary “it’s the law” reason. According to an account in Road & Track, “the operation targeted dangerous driving and uninsured motorists; in just a couple of days, 72 cars worth almost £7 million (about $9.4 million at current exchange rates) were taken off the streets.”
As in the case of the Hackstress mentioned at the beginning of this commentary, the R&T Hack unconsciously amens the anti-car, anti-driving narrative. “(T)argeted dangerous driving and uninsured motorists” is repeated without comment and thereby conveying agreement with the MIB’s Hut! Hut! Hutting! The Hack continues – as the amen-corner of the MIB: “Several of the vehicles seized were brought in from other countries; problem is, some of the owners rely on car insurance from their home countries and don’t verify whether those policies provide valid coverage in the U.K.”
Italics added.
There was a time – it seems so long ago – that car journalists and car publications wrote in defense of cars and driving, which requires dissecting and objecting to such dirty business as “cracking down” on “anti-social” drivers and their cars. It is impossible to imagine a car journalist such as Brock Yates or Pat Bedard or Jeremy Clarkson uttering or typing the words “cracking down” except in derision of them. Of course, car journalists of that stripe are themselves” “anti-social” in the context of our times. They (and I) enjoy driving for its own sake – for the fun of it – which is inherently “anti-social” in the minds of people who regard cars and driving as at best a necessary evil, inherently dangerous and for that reason suffocated to the extent possible via endless petty and severe sanctions, restrictions and and controls. Many of the anti-car, anti-driving tribe say all of the foregoing openly but most of them amen it unconsciously, as in the case of the two hacks mentioned.
Neither (and there are many more of them) even raises questions about such things as whether it is, in fact, “anti-social” to enjoy the sound of a powerful engine revving – or tires spinning. Is it also “anti-social” to smile? After all, it might cause someone congenitally unhappy to frown.
There is also the unaddressed Creep Factor. R&T notes that the driver of one car “was only in the country for two hours and had been driving for just 15 minutes when (his) car was seized.” This can only happen one way. The MIB – which is to say, this gang called “the government” – knows immediately when a car is not “covered.” It’s the same here, too – in case you didn’t know it. If you doubt it, see what happens if you decide not to “renew” (God-damn this passive euphemizing of government forcing you to do things, such as hand over money to the insurance mafia to pay for harms you have not caused) the “coverage” the government requires you to buy.
Almost immediately, you will get a threat letter/email from the DMV informing you that they know you have not “renewed” and that your car’s ear tags (plates and registration) will be cancelled and you will be socked with heavy fines and possibly “arrested” (i.e., caged) if caught driving “uninsured.”
The only real difference between the MIB and the DMV being that the latter outsources the actual Hut! Hut! Hutting!
As if that made – or makes – any difference.

A new crackdown on ‘speeding’ looms:
‘Studies on rural roads from the 1930s and 1940s still play an outsized role in the way speed limits are set across the U.S. — even in urban areas.
‘Born from that research was a widely accepted concept known as the 85% rule, which suggests a road’s posted speed should be tied to the 15th-fastest vehicle out of every 100 traveling it in free-flowing traffic, rounded to the nearest 5 mph increment.
‘The National Association of City Transportation Officials developed an alternative rule known as “City Limits,” which sets the speed limit based on a formula that factors in a street’s activity level and the likelihood of conflicts, such as collisions.
‘The report points out the 85% rule is based on dated research and that “these historic roads are a far cry from the vibrant [sic; LOL] streets and arterials that typify city streets today.”
Rethinking the need for speed
‘Under its “20 is Plenty” campaign, the Wisclownsin capital of Madison has been changing signs across the city this summer, lowering the speed limit from 25 mph to 20 mph on local residential streets.’ — APe News

Not a word in this agitprop essay about local governments’ need for revenue. With 20 mph speed limits, issuing a blizzard of speeding tickets is like shooting fish in a barrel.
23 in a 20 zone: what are you, some kind of sociopath? 🙁
Anri-social driving. Yep. I get it.
Im a Southerner who moved to Alaska.
It irritates me to no end the folks who start their vehicles very early in the morning that have no suppression on their exhaust.
I was sleeping just fine until you auto-started your 4 banger Charger wirh loud exhaust that sounds like shit because its a 4 banger at 4 am. Fuck you. I hate you.
If you are annoyed now wait until -40 below arrives and people leave their vehicles running for 30-45 minutes to warm up. Maybe you should move back down south if it bothers you so much….just saying…
I think the point was more about the unmuffled exhaust – which is very inconsiderate unless you live out in the sticks, all to yourself. Basic human decency expressed in mutual consideration is a bedrock of a civilized society, wouldn’t you agree?
Why do we need insurance anyway? because the cost of cars and medical treatment is unaffordable.
I don’t have all the answers as to why, but in general why don’t I insure my possessions against loss? You insure yours.
If I cause you a loss, you work that out with your insurance, then they can come after me for their losses because I was negligent.
Maybe I could by liability insurance for that or, if things were affordable, I could pay them back for any damage I caused.
But we don’t have affordable things, so we can’t.
I told my British pal, of 30 year, that maybe someday we would make it to the UK for a visit. I was just being polite. In the back of my head I was thinking “Maybe, like never”. I was there in 1988 but I don’t remember so much, except being surprised there were boobs on TV.
told
It would be a shame is she died in a car accident. Not that I’m praying for that with all my heart or anything.
80% of Americans lined up and dutifully took the jewjab. Do you really think what is happening there, is’nt coming here?
I agree, Celtic –
Most Americans are compliant; they have been conditioned to be compliant. Being non-compliant is regarded by many as a kind of moral evil. It is very strange.
To be precise I would call it a wopjab – Fauci is Eyetalian. Or maybe a WOSPjab – after Deborah Brix.
I was in t he UK recently. It is an awful place. Don’t get me wrong. It’s a well spring of music and witty humor, and of course where they torture the English language :), but there’s far too much authoritarianism AND compliance. Those Brits will put up with whatever abuse is directed toward them. It absolutely pathetic. Anything that does not support the tyranny is labeled anti-social. There are threats of penalties everywhere you go. Everything is framed as being for your safety and well-being. If you push back at all, you’re guilty of bullying and abuse, which is made clear that it will not be tolerated. “See something, say something, sorted.”
There’s also a war on men. Check this out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ulbY4T2Sx8
UK men are cucks that need to grow a pair. I’d be interested in hearing thoughts from Nasir on this (I think he lives in the UK, right?).
Pink Floyd summed up the sentiment in a couple of songs:
“Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way. . .” -Time
“If you don’t eat your meat, you can’t have any pudding! How can you have any pudding if you don’t eat your meat?” -Another Brick in the Wall
I love that song, Mr. Liberty, and quite the classic line, too, I might add. I remember years ago, reading a story in the UK regarding a traffic camera giving a driver a speeding ticket only based on the “fact” that the camera “sensed” the driver arrived from one camera to the other “too fast” for the perceived posted speed limit. No camera took a picture of how fast driver was going. No LEO to pull said speeder over. Just an assumption, and a ticket.
Yes, they take a pic of the car’s plate with a time stamp and then later with another time stamp. If you exceed an average speed greater than posted, you get a ticket. It’s so Orwellian.
You are not social Eric. If you were you would join her in making a special place for importing child rapists, religious orders daughter killing and long knife knife weilding former goat herders taking her country over.
I hear you, Torino!
Of course, I have always been anti-social; I consider this to be to my credit.
Every time I drive to-and-from work, I realize why I stay home on my stretch of days off. And once Winter arrives, and the snow and ice cover the roads, the thought of being out there just for the hell of it is enough to make one just stay home and watch paint dry. For that would be a far more enjoyable past time. For reading the news on-line is bad enough.
Morning, Shadow!
Yup; I went for a ride on my ZRX the other day and it was less fun because of the myriad half-asleep/cell-phone-pecking/Vaccinated Clovers on the road. It’s difficult to maintain a smooth pace when you have to take/prepare to take evasive measures every couple of minutes.
This is why I stay out of all those shit hole countries North, West and South of Germany. I also contribute to the AfD and support Fridays for Hubraum.
How about anti-social governance?
“Anti-social driving”? What nonsense. What does that even mean? That’s about as nonsensical as people who refused to be guinea pigs for Big Pharma a few years ago being called ANTI-VAXXERS, the definition of that word having been expanded to include people who aren’t against vaccines per se but simply oppose VACCINE MANDATES.
I suppose in the UK and other countries around the world that have gone ALL IN on Net Zero & other demented climate change “goals”, people who refuse to give up their gas vehicles for an EV and refuse to give up MEAT & BUTTER for frankenfood will eventually be called ANTI-CLIMATE or CLIMATE CHANGE DENIERS!
Funny thing John: Those “anti-vaxxers” ended up being right when they refused to take the jab, and stood their ground for what they believed in. Now those who took said jab are lamenting what has happened to them. While the truly insane are blaming said anti-vaxxers for not “warning them”. Never mind these same people were trying to destroy them years ago for NOT taking said jab. You just cannot make this insanity up. I remember reading an article about putting bags on cows rear ends to collect their farts…..for “climate change”.
Here’s something else that’s funny, Shadow. Many of the same people who became COVID vaxx shills were once skeptical of Big Pharma & vaccines in general.
And will these same people also eventually become shills for frankenfood over REAL FOOD because of cliiiiiiiiimate change?
Probably, John, because history repeats itself, as sadly, humans in general never learn. For maybe “this time” it will work….like Communism. Vaccines. Gun Control. Etc…..
to your point on never learning…’Murica!
https://tinyurl.com/2eba3m6z
phew – the government here kept us save by seizing 7m in cars of people who really did nothing wrong (and instead will prob spend millions in the city over the summer)….
At the same time – they did nothing about the millions of actual theft and real crime shops and London residents face every day!!
Imagine if they cracked down on illegal aliens like they did on illegal cars, would a counter protest spring up with people holding signs that said “No car is illegal!”?
Perhaps the thirty-something Qatari, Bahraini or the like tried to vacation in the UK as the population looks the same as the middle east but with a slightly less corrupt police.
Either way, just mark this down as reason number 3,998,685 not to visit the UK or EU.
I saw the words “Metropolitan Police Service”, and the opening of “Hot Fuzz” immediately sprang to mind.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Lqd-UwZmJ4
The British used to understand satire, but “Hot Fuzz” is now 20 years old.
“Advanced Cycling”.
Good Lord, what has happened to Britain since then?
In answer to your question Roscoe; Lots and none of it good.
‘The pair of purple Lamborghinis were flown into the U.K. so the owner could enjoy them while on vacation, according to the MIB; however, they were both uninsured.’ — R&T
Who would fly a couple of Lambos into Blighty for a playboy’s holiday? Almost certainly, the owner was a thirty-something Qatari, Bahraini or the like. Naturally this fuels envy among threadbare Brits, barely clinging to a middle class existence as the UK rots economically.
But envy of rich foreigners cannot be expressed under the UK’s draconian limits on speech, which provide for arresting those whose social media posts are deemed “offensive” or cause “annoyance” or “anxiety.” Middle easterners are dark-complected compared to pasty-faced, sun-starved Brits. But this is an absolutely verboten subject, both for individuals and the Lügenpresse.
Thus the real underlying issues — class resentment, racial discrimination, xenophobia — get sublimated into a mewly passive-aggressive form: let’s seize their supercars. It’s quite a toxic brew, when the rule of law is undermined by arbitrary seizures of vehicles worth hundreds of thousands of pounds in response to a paperwork status offense.
Well, I decided that I’d get my cowboy hat
And go down to Marble Arch station
‘Cause when a Texan fancies he’ll take his chances
Chances will be taken – that’s for sure
And them Limey eyes, they were eyein’ the prize
That some people call manly footwear
They said you’re from down South and when you open your mouth
You always seem to put your foot there
— Gary Nunn and Jerry Jeff Walker, London Homesick Blues
Imagine a cowboy boot stamping on
a humanStarmer’s face — forever. 🙂That was my first thought as well. It’s OK, they’ll be back on the street before afternoon prayers… er I mean tea.
