Charlie Kirk’s murder has had an effect similar to the effect “the pandemic” had in that both have made it clear to more than ever what is actually going on.
Both events showed people the thuggery that has been masked for too long behind play-nice euphemistic language such as “wearing is caring,” we are “all in this together” and “pay your taxes.”
Also that “Israel is our (greatest) ally.”
These are just a few examples. There are so many it is difficult to name them all. They permeate our language, in part because they are just accepted and become the language. R. Emmet Tyrell of The American Spectator (which I contribute to often) styles it the Kultursmog.
A fine example that directly pertains to Kirk is the near-ubiquitous use of she in media coverage of men pretending they are women. The pretending is abetted by the affirming. Kirk did not affirm it. He challenged it. It is etymologically because factually incorrect to call a he a “she.” Hurt feelings do not change facts. Kirk hurt a lot of feelings. More of us ought to stop worrying about hurting feelings – especially the feelings of people who do not shy away from letting us know they will hurt us if we hurt their feelings by not playing along with their delusions.
“Phobic.” This suffix is deployed to mar the motives of those who think it more important to defend facts than to pretend to believe in falsehoods for the sake of not hurting someone’s feelings. “Phobic” people are afraid of . . . everything the Left does not want questioned.
The Left, of course, is afraid of the questioning.
The Right is uneasy about such questioning, too. It does not say questioners are “phobic” but it does steadfastly refuse to answer the fundamental question. That being whether it is ever legitimate to force things on people. The various reasons for this forcing are incidental to the question. There are always reasons. People on the Left and the Right will say we need (insert here) but will rarely, if ever, say that they are going to make you pay for it.
Force you to submit to it.
Why the evasive – the cowardly – language? If it is right to force people to hand over their money, to submit to your demands, then why not be open and honest about it? We’re going to make you do this. We’re going to take your money. They never say these truths because they raise difficult questions neither the Left nor the Right want to have to answer.
Kirk was one who began to answer by asking and that is what made him a threat – as is true of any questioner who refuses to just accept orthodoxies. It is why – a long time ago – questioning what the Catholic Church said the Bible said was to risk being killed for it (the Protestants emulated this example once they acquired the power to do so). Lincoln – the founder of the Republican Party – had people arrested and caged and deported for questioning him. So did Woodrow Wilson, a Democrat. Two sides of the same coin. Heads or tails, force it is.
Kirk was raising questions about that. It was a dangerous thing for him to do. It is always dangerous to question what we’re told we have to do by people who have it in their power (as well as the desire) to force us to do it; to hurt or even kill us for asking dangerous (to their sacrosanct authority) questions and by dint of that, raising awareness.
Kirk’s particular crime was that he connected with high school and college age people. Older people tend to be set int heir ways and confirmed in their beliefs. But the young are usually more open to new things – including the questioning of old things. Kirk excelled at bantering with the young and he caused many of them to reconsider what they’d been told about many things they’d been raised to not even think about questioning, in the manner of religious orthodoxies.
The more people begin thinking, the more dangerous it becomes for orthodoxies – both religious and secular. Kirk got taken down. They can’t take us all down. Just Say No has power – just not in the way Nancy Reagan intended.
The truth is true. Facts are stubborn things. Principles matter and must be stated and defended. Charlie Kirk wasn’t always right but he was always questioning. Including – just before he was murdered – the obnoxious insistence that “Israel is our greatest ally.”

I still like the idea of honest debate, but you show little signs of that. Being proud of your Jewish heritage is great. Everyone should be proud of something, I find it strange though how you never call out the excesses of your people, of which, frankly, there are many. I’d like to take this opportunity to clarify my own position so that it is clear to everyone: I do not equate questioning the so-called “special relationship” with Israel or criticism of the actions of the government of Israel or even questioning the legitimacy of the state of Israel to be “anti-Semitic,” i.e., that I dislike or even hate people who happen to be Jewish just because they are Jewish. This latter is used to impugn the motives and character of people so as to avoid having to deal with legitimate questions/criticisms. It is of a piece with the use of “phobic” to characterize people who object to men playing in women’s sports. That they are afraid of something that no sensible or fair-minded person could possibly object to. This sort of thing is inducing vehement backlash, as it ought to.
Israel is just another country and its government is just another government. We – the people – do not have “allies.” Governments sometimes have congruent interests and often these are at odds with the interests of ordinary people.
I also do not consider Jewish people “special” or “chosen.” So I do not believe they have a right to anything special.
I’m a Libertarian, which means I consider it absurd and evil to collectivize people. We are individuals and ought to be regarded and treated as such. The picture I’ve seen doesn’t look like a 700, it does look like a sporterized Mauser action with a synthetic stock. The bolt is a fairly straight bend, ugly to my eyes, while a 700 is more gracefully bent. A sporterized action may or may not have markings, usually a country crest on top of the receiver. Looks like the kind of thing you can buy fairly cheaply at a pawn shop. But usually quite good accuracy, especially with the newer barrel fitted.

I have come to the dreary conclusion that the Left is largely composed of mentally deranged control freaks who believe they are in the right with the fervor of religious zealots. I would extend the questioning to the story we are being sold about this kid being the shooter. It also bothers me how the dad is being hailed as some kind of “hero” for turning the kid in. Here’s my take on the assassin’s rifle based on the one picture I found on MSN. It’s on a large ring Mauser type action, sporterized with bent bolt handle, front scope ring looks half off of it’s base, aftermarket stock, probably about 36 to 40 inches long. Even if you remove the barrel/ receiver from the stock it’s going to stick out from most bags and I seriously doubt that you would take the time to disassemble one if trying to evade pursuit.
As for the shot; my guess is that his actual target was the head and not the neck. Why? Assassination especially when the event is public and expected to be recorded is physiological warfare against your opponents, a bleeding neck would not have as much effect as a headshot. Oh, and 200 yards is an easy shot especially from prone although the drop in elevation between the victim and shooter does complicate matters.
In the end this assassination is about silencing those who encourage the asking of questions that those in power don’t want asked.
The video I saw looks like he was hit from behind, likely entering through the brain stem, exiting his left upper mid throat. His cheeks puffed with the expansion/impact. I suspect you’re right, the murderer intended a head shot and miscalculated the drop on a down shot, which is one of the trickier things to do when shooting. The video was horrible, but at least Charlie died instantly. Rest in peace.

In other words, your identification was up to the private sector, not the government.

I’ve got nothing against people who happen to be Jewish. But Israel is a foreign country (and government) and this idea that Americans must love Israel – i.e., support the government thereof, no matter what it does – is nauseating.
