Today is Election Day – in my state (Va). I will not be voting – for the first time since I was first legally allowed to vote back in the ’80s. It has taken that long for me to understand that voting is a very unsound thing because it gives sanction to a profoundly unsound thing.
That thing we refer to as “the government.”
By voting, we legitimize that thing. We sometimes think we can minimize the evil of that thing by voting for less of it (or so we allow ourselves to believe). That is an erroneous belief. Has the evil of government lessened over the past say 50 years? Or has it worsened?
How could it be otherwise?
A vote is a kind of concession – that is how it is taken – that whoever ends up being elected legitimately acquires authority to impose things on other people. Including on you. It is a fatuity to speak of “representation.” A true representative would be someone over whom you have express control, who may only represent you to the exact degree you have specifically authorized. A lawyer, for example, is your representative. You hire him to represent you in a very specific way and in accordance with your clearly stated wishes. If the lawyer deviates from your specific instructions, you are at liberty to fire him – after which point he no longer can claim to be your representative. If he continues to try to “represent” you, it is an actionable offense; i.e., he can be criminally as well as civilly pursued.
When you vote for a so-called “representative,” that person is free to “represent” you however they like, including in ways that are 100 percent in opposition to what you thought you were voting for. If that is “representation,” then a man who insists he is a “she” is also what “she” says “she” is.
In my state – Virginia – Winsome Sears is considered by many (including me) to be the lesser of two evils. So was Trump (also by me). I will never allow myself to slip into that error again.
Evil is evil – even when it seems less so. Even – in the possible case of Sears, who seems to not be an evil woman on a personal level – it is still evil to empower anyone to have unwarranted authority over others. I like some of the things Sears says – as for example what she says about the right of people to freely possess arms. But it ought not to be something that is up for a vote.
No right ought to ever be on the ballot. This is easy to understand when it is framed correctly. Should slavery ever be on the ballot? In other words, should it ever be put to a vote whether to legalize the purchase and possession of human beings?
Slavery is off the table – as it ought to be. So how come theft is still on the table? It is of course not called that – but terms do not alter facts. When a person is made to hand over his money – or his money is just taken from him – this is theft. How can theft ever be otherwise? And yet it is, by styling it taxes – and voting in favor of them negates the right to not have our things taken from us. What is considered a crime as well as immoral – when done by a common criminal – is legitimized via the ballot box. It is very difficult for most people to see this, because they were allowed to vote on it. Even though they may have voted against it, they accept it because they accept the process that legitimized it. They have fallen for the trick embodied by the slogan all schoolchildren have heard about “no taxation without representation.” They accept taxation – when it is done to them by “representatives.”
How about no taxation instead?
No theft is something almost everyone agrees to be a sound thing – in that very few of us appreciate having anything stolen from us. It would be a harder sell to teach schoolkids that no theft without representation is a sound thing. And that is why they are not taught it that way.
Instead, they are taught to vote for theft – and to accept thievery when it is visited on them, even if they didn’t vote in favor of it.
There is an axiom that says you’ll get more of what you go along with. The longer we go along with voting, the more we’re going to get – good and hard.
The not-voting alternative at least stands a chance of ending that by ending the legitimization of it. Imagine if enough of us to be impossible to not notice refused to vote to be “represented” in the manner we’ve all grown accustomed to. It would become extremely difficult to create the illusion of legitimacy in that event; it would become obvious that a minority was voting. That would put an end to the “democracy” con that depends on the fatuity of “representation.”
I will do my part today by staying away from the ballot box. For basically the same reason that I respect my neighbor’s fence line and wish to God he’d respect mine – so to speak – by also staying away from the ballot box.

I’m going to add a thought or two about Mamdani’s election as NYC mayor. It’s not just the female vote, though that helped. There are at least two other factors that enabled an avowed socialist to win. One was, and is, the lack of opportunity for young people. Two, at least half of NYC’s population isn’t American.
Thanks to gov’t policies, regulations, crony capitalism, inflation, etc., young people don’t have the same opportunities that we did; they can’t even get on the employment ladder, let alone the property ladder. When I look at homes even in my working class neighborhood, I shake my head and wonder how anyone can afford to rent or buy here. In the 15 years I’ve lived here, home prices have almost DOUBLED! Have wages and salaries doubled since then? No. Young people are disgusted; indeed, the American people are disgusted by the powers that (shouldn’t) be farting in our faces, as Eric says in a more recent piece. Mamdani’s victory is a CRY FOR HELP! That’s one reason why Mamdani won.
The second reason is the fact that much of NYC’s population is from somewhere else. The UN isn’t just a compound on Manhattan; it’s NYC’s entire population! If you go to NYC, you’ll hear countless languages besides English spoken there. While that may have always been the case; while Little Italy and Chinatown are long time fixtures of NYC; the main language was English. If you wanted to live and thrive in NYC, or anywhere in the US for that matter, you had to know, write, read, speak, and understand English; you had to assimilate and become an American. Now, that’s not the case, so these foreigners bring their cultures, customs, beliefs, ways of life, etc. with them. Many of these people come from socialist countries, so they’re more than happy to vote for a socialist mayor.

I feel for young people today. I understand why they are angry – and inclining toward socialism (if not outright Communism). I’d probably feel the same way were I 25 again. When I was not much older than that, I was able to buy a small single family house in Northern Virginia on a modest salary working as an editorial writer at The Washington Times. I don’t think I was making quite $40,000 back then. Back then being the mid-1990s. My old house in what was a lower middle class neighborhood in Loudoun County that I bought for $155k is now a $650k home according to Zillow. There is no way I could afford to re-buy the home I bought when I was in my twenties. It’s obscene. Even where I live now – which is far away from Northern VA – and where it used to be possible to buy a nice house on several acres of land for $250k or so (as I did) you cannot buy even a single wide for less than $200k. Forget a house.
You cannot expect people to support capitalism when they do not have capital – and are convinced they never will.

In a comment on another post, I said that we don’t have true capitalism, and we haven’t had it for a long time. We live under crony capitalism, at best. We live in a system that practices socialism for rich people and capitalism for everyone else.
I can see why they are angry, Mark. The tragic thing is, what they are voting for is infinitely worse than what they have now. They think they cannot afford anything now? Just wait until they get what they voted for. However, as they think they are right, they will blame those of us who tried to warn them about Socialism and its inevitable march toward Communism, when Socialism ultimately fails. If anything, many will say those of us who worked for everything (and see the failures in the system) should lose it all, because if they do not have something, neither should the rest of us. Such is the mind set for many. As for the “immigrants”, they have no excuses. They fled this crap, and then vote for it again. The being “stuck on stupid” is thick with these people.

I don’t disagree with you that inflation, government policies, etc. help contribute to the downfall of a society, but the biggest culprit…sucky parenting. Who are these idiots that push 18 and 20 year old kids to attend four year universities and then willingly fill out the form for student aid? Here you go, Johnny, every 22 year old needs $85k of student loan debt to begin their life. And we are supposed to be surprised that the average age of a first time home buyer is 40?!?!
Many may disagree with me, but the building blocks of life begin at home. Kids don’t favor socialism and communism if they truly understand what these types of governments entail. I look at the family structures of Asian, Hispanic, and Amish families. The focal point is the solidification of the clan. The family operates as a small community. They educate the young, teach responsibility and respect, care for their elders, and yes, are built around mom and dad.
Until whites and blacks get back to the core establishment of the nuclear family they will continue to try to swim in quicksand and then wonder why they are drowning.
You’re right about the parenting-what there is of it, anyway; you’re right about that. It’s no accident that Asians have the most intact families and are the highest achievers among us. Secondly, the gov’t needs to GTFO education NOW! Notice how tuition has climbed along with the availability and amount of subsidies? It’s happened so often that I think it’s fair to say that correlation equals causation. I remember how, back in the late 1970s, tuition at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, was $766. I can’t remember if that was per semester or for the whole year, but either way, that was a GREAT deal! Back then, a kid could work full time during the summers and part time during the school year, yet easily pay for college, a room to sleep in, and have something left over for fun.

Yeah, I got to that point after the Biden election fraud. Back then, I have to say, you did have good arguments about voting for the lesser of two evils, and I couldn’t really mount an intelligent argument against what you were saying. I mean, what you were saying then still has legitimate points, but I think they’re predicating on the system having at least a shred of remaining integrity. I’m not sure really TBH.
Back then, I went through the process of unregistering myself, and my wife (with her full agreement) from being able to vote at all. It wasn’t that I was gonna just not vote, but I wanted to be detached from even the possibility of being able to vote. It was an unusually awkward process; there are no online click-through forms for it. In Maryland anyway, you have to write to wherever the hell it was, and tell them to unregister you.
I had also mistakenly thought that, I didn’t want to remain register and just not vote because I recalled people often saying that being called to jury duty is (somehow) the price we pay for the *privilege* of voting. Something like that. And I was saying to myself, and my wife, “fuck that ‘duty’ as a ‘price’ for something that I think is a complete farce.” I wanted nothing to do with the farce, I didn’t want to lend it any credibility, or legitimize it in any way. I certainly did not, and do not want to be compelled to ‘serve’ on jury ‘duty’ because of being registered.
Well, a couple of days ago, my wife received a jury duty summons for the second time since we’ve lived in Maryland (going on 18 years now in February)! I thought that this must be a mistake and so did my wife! I looked it up, and what do you know?! For the (fucken!) “privilege” of having a “driver’s license” (or *any* state issued ID), you can be compelled to ‘serve’ on a jury! WTAF
And, as I’m sure you know, they don’t mean that they strongly suggest/encourage that you comply. We are talking about the threat of state violence for noncompliance. They will fine you and/or put you in a cage; they will murder you if you resist those punitive measures for ‘noncompliance’. This is insanity man. These people are out of their fucking minds.
I don’t blame you one little bit for holding onto hope. I kind of gave it up without the same degree of thoughtfulness as you have expressed before or now. I had just had it with the blatant fraud these fucking people call “our precious democracy”. I’ve still had it with it, and look how there’s no way real way out.
They’re gonna burn this shit to the ground, but they’ll have billions/trillions with them when they do it. I have been called to “duty” – jury duty – as well. Luckily, I have escaped that duty by dint of my being self-employed and “sole provider.” I need to work to pay the goddamned government. I know Some will say that serving on a jury is a way to help people accused of BS “crimes” that involve no victim. Maybe. I doubt it. The system is beyond redemption. I shun it and avoid it and game it to the extent feasible. You cannot polish a turd, said the wise old mechanic!
The lawyers on both sides will use their peremptory challenges to bounce you off the jury during voir dire. If you want to get bounced, dress up like a professional. The last time I was called, I dressed like the engineer I was; I dressed in shirt and tie with a calculator in my pocket. I spent the rest of the day waiting around in a holding room. That was over 20 years ago.

Don’t know how it works in Virginia but in California there is a check box on the summons that asks if you ever been convicted of a felony. If you answer yes you are excused.

You don’t have to go through all that BS to unregister yourself to vote; just refrain from voting two or three election cycles, and you’ll drop off the rolls automatically.
Well, maybe that’s good info for other people, but it’s a done deal for me about 5 years ago. As I mentioned, I thought that would get me (and my wife) off the jury duty roster right away, but nope. There’s no getting off that apparently. Everyone has to have a state issued ID, so everyone is stuck with it.

Because how could I? The facts speak for themselves. Of course, not all women are as you have described. But many – probably a majority – are. At least, they are now. They – a majority – have been thrust into the workforce and made to compete with men, rather than rely on men to protect and provide for them. Men, meanwhile, have largely been absolved of the social/cultural responsibility to protect and provide – and face severe consequences from the system if they risk doing it and their woman decides to divorce them. In brief, women have been alienated from men – and the same in reverse. Not all. Of course. But the general drift is so obvious it hardly requires further elaboration. Who benefits from making women love government? Not women. Not men.

Even worse Eric, is that those men who do rise up and protect women get reviled and persecuted. Think Daniel Penny and the subway incident. Good on you, Eric! I turn 51 this year and I have never voted. My hands are clean. I almost voted in a Cherokee election last year because one of our clients was running and asked us to vote for him. I didn’t. Side note, Cherokee elections are laughably pathetic. About 20 people show up to vote for their friends and business partners.

I am convinced either the march through the institutions has been wildly successful and the American people have been stupefied enough to vote for these maniacs, or the entire process is rigged and wrought with fraud. Either way, us normal people are screwed blued and tattooed.
No. If only 1% of voters turned out…or even 50%…the pols would have no power, because it would mean that people have seen through the curtain, and realize that government isn’t legit, and would simply stop obeying and participating- and THAT is what the pols fear the most (Hence the TV commercials to “Get out and vote, no matter who you vote for”). Their only means of power at that point would be at the literal barrel of a gun- and they simply wouldn’t have enough mercenaries to to do it- especially if a good percentage of people stopped paying their extortion[taxes].
THAT is why voting is so detrimental to liberty, and why I have never engaged in it, not once in my entire life. As long as the majority vote, the pols have nothing to fear; but if significant numbers were to wake up and go off the ranch…..the pols lose everything, and we win.

Maybe it’s time for western Virginia (ie not DC, Richmond, Newport) to secede and join West Virginia. Hell West Virginia was unconstitutionally created anyhow.
I think voting matters, but not to the extent we’d wish. It’s been said that American politics is played between the 40-yard lines. You don’t want either side to score a touchdown, just punt after a few downs.
In Virginia it sure as hell mattered for gun ownership that Youngkin was in office the last four years. Yes, your rights should not be on the ballot, but they are. Now that Spanberger has won, if she has a Democrat majority in the legislature you can expect magazine capacity limits, “assault weapons” bans, bans on private transfers, “red flag” confiscations, etc. etc.
Other things we can expect from this new Governor if she gets a Democrat majority legislature is carbon taxes, mask/ vaxx mandates in the event of another “pandemic”, doubling down on “Safe and Effective!” vaccines similar to what other Democrat Governors have already done, demented Net Zero policies, etc.
Republican governors Brad Little of ID and Mike DeWine of OH were hardly paragons of freedom.

Buried under the various state constitutional amendments to keep the Texas property tax “reform” scheme running, today’s state-wide ballot included an initiative to deny bail under certain circumstances by law rather than judicial discretion.
The circumstances were not listed on the ballot so the initiative was a hard ‘no’ for me, but I wonder how many people reflexively thought that such a law might be a good idea.

I disagree with most people here. The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. If you believe one candidate is better than another and your vote could make a difference due to the closeness of the election, you should vote. You still have time, go vote!

100% incorrect. Doing nothing (i.e. not voting) is often the antidote to political evil, as it tells the PTBs you’re not OK with the evil they’re inflicting. By contrast, voting for ANY candidate is literally a vote of confidence in the corrupt system. It’s like voting for Satan; would you say someone who refuses to vote for Satan is a case of “good men doing nothing”?
Moreover, voting is itself an act of “doing nothing”. Voting is simply the outsourcing of social/economic problems to a political “superman” who the voter thinks will do all the heavy lifting so he doesn’t have to lift a finger. Stopped voting after the 2008 election. Was involved in Ron Paul’s campaign that year and got to see the process up to my State’s GOP convention. They played games but I convinced myself it was just seeing how the sausages of politics was made. Did it all again in 2012 and the GOP leadership was simply not going to have Ron Paul pick up delegates or have a say with un-pledged ones, so they flat out broke party bylaws and probably actual criminal laws. That’s the point I said fuck this, there’s no point.
One thing to consider for those who vote on single issues. The algorithms and cheating hacks really don’t care who or what you vote for, all they really need is for you to submit a ballot. They can change the results.
What they have a much harder time concealing is the total vote counts. It’s too obvious when you get 105% voter turn out. At this point the real participation is probably way under 50% of the eligible voters so that they have turn-outs of 60%, 70% is already likely proof that a maybe a quarter of the ballots are fake, dead people, fraudulent or stolen.
Which, by the way, something you need to do periodically even if you don’t vote or have cancelled your registration. Still check with your Secretary of State (or whoever is responsible for this in your State) that someone isn’t submitting ballot with your name.
I live in a town of 1000. We have a council of 7 people. Through years of apathy, the worst of the worst have been ensconced in power and they are a corrupt bunch. Break the law, lose lawsuits, don’t listen to citizen complaints, and allow employees to do whatever they want.
I voted for people who might help clean this crap pile up.
In PA, I also got to vote against retaining all the sitting judges on the ballot. That always feels good.
I voted. I didn’t vote for any person, however I did place one useless vote against additional local taxes and against CA’s Proposition 50, to allow gerrymandering to offset Texas’ gerrymandering. Two wrongs don’t make a right.
I’ve decided that voting defensively is ok, I will not vote for someone to lord over me, though. I left those boxes blank.
Welcome to the club Eric. Haven’t voted since 2018. The steal that year, along with every preceding election convinced me it’s all worthless horseshit. As if, TPTB would give us a real choice in any matter of substance. Declining to state, like refusal to comply are the only real things we can truly vote for. We can also vote, and we should,,with our $$$ and our feet. Not an election goes by where I regret my decision. How’s it working out for all the Trump voters here?
And yet, this is not and never has been a democracy. If you believe your vote changes things, you are deluded. What your vote is, is a veto against misbehaving management. If you don’t exercise your veto power, it indicates that you are content with the way public enterprises are being run.
There will always be power. Unless you are exercising it, at least some of it won’t be to your liking. And you can get swept up and waste far too much precious time and money on it. I’ve been a small town official, a party member, and a state delegate (for Alan Keyes, and for Ron Paul).
Ultimately your only real power is to say no, and the personal exercise will sooner or later involve defending yourself against an enforcer or 10 (you will lose, so make it worthwhile!)
Until that time weighing in for the best or least awful alternative is pretty low cost.

You raise a good point about representation. The COTUS stipulates that we’re to have 1 rep for every 25,000-30,000 people. Years ago, they capped the number of representatives at 435-unconstitutionally so, I might add, as that part of the COTUS was never amended. It seems to me that the COTUS would need to be amended first before capping the number of representatives. Anyway, with only 435 representatives in Washington, DC, that works out for one representative for every 750,000 people! How can one person meaningfully represent 750,000 people? To ask the question is to answer it; they can’t.
I voted this morning here in NJ. We have a race for Governor that is supposedly somewhat close which is surprising for this dump of a state. Held my nose and voted for the R guy. Not that I expect him to do anything if he wins but at least it would hopefully provide some kind of pushback as the rest of the state has been run by crooked Dems for a long time now.
The D candidate is a loathsome woman, Mikie Sherril, from Congress. When asked how her net worth went from basically nothing to $7 million in four years, she basically had no answer. Said she would have to look into it. She claims to possess a magic wand that is going to lower my utility bills while still going all in on the sun and the breeze agenda. If she wins, she’ll fit right in with the career crooks who control this state.
