MAGA’s “COVID” Moment?

It’s said “COVID” was an IQ test and that’s true. It was also an ideological test, in that people picked sides. Many were on the wrong side. A similar sort of test is under way right now and this time, it is people on the other side who are being tested. That is to say, people who – loosely speaking – voted for Trump because they thought he was at least the lesser of two evils.

He is proving to be much worse – and not merely because he has betrayed numerous important promises people thought he’d made, most especially that he would keep America out of these stupid, evil wars in the Middle East. The most evil thing about Trump is that he is personally wrecking the standing of anything that is tainted by association with him. Specifically, the MAGA movement. It is becoming something worse than a laughingstock. It is becoming a rallying cry for the same people who brought us “COVID” – and who you’d better believe will bring it (and worse) back, with a vengeance, when they re-acquire power.

If this demolition operation is not – somehow – arrested, by the time we get to fall (and the midterms) anything associated with “MAGA” will be political strychnine. It will not matter – to the hystericized mob – that Trump is not MAGA. What will be consequential is that they regard MAGA as Trump and Trump as MAGA – and anything and anyone who expresses the least MAGA-ish position on anything will be regarded as being – effectively – Trump.

The historical antecedent is Herbert Hoover – who wasn’t a terrible person but a very unlucky one.ย When the stock market crashed in 1929, it wasn’t just Hoover that got blamed. It was the Republican Party. It became almost obscene for a person to admit to being a Republican. Getting elected as one was even more so, even if the “Republican” tried mightily to convince the voters he was actually a Democrat (viz, Wendell Wilkie).

The interesting parallel is that before the Stock Market crash, Hoover was very popular. He was elected, in 1928, in a resounding victory. William Randolph Hearst – the great publisher – said of him: “The present situation demands conservatism, and Hooverโ€™s conservatism is of the constructive and not the reactionary type.” People had tired of Prohibition – the 1920s analog of “COVID” – and pined for good (rather than bad) times. Hoover’s election, it was said, would “drive so forcefully at the tasks now before the nation that the end of his eight years as president will find us looking back on an era of prodigious achievement.”

Then the Stock Market crashed – and with it, the good times for most Americans. “Hoover” became a kind of cuss word. Just as “Trump” is becoming one, too. It will not be just him who gets the blame for $5 (maybe $7) gas by summer. It will be everyone who is perceived to be a supporter of Trump.

At a certain point – we are already there – this is fair. To continue supporting Trump is to continue to support Trump’s stupid, evil war – as well as his suppression of the Epstein Business via this stupid, evil war. Joe Kent has done a service to MAGA by divesting himself of association with Trump, leading (hopefully) the way for others to do the same. Marjorie Taylor Greene deserves credit for her parting of the ways as well.

They have both passed the IQ test.

We shall soon see how many flunk it.

The crucible moment has arrived, just as it did back in the summer of 2020. By that time, intelligent (rather than ideological) people understood that “COVID” was an evil, stupid operation and they bucked being part of it. They ignored the lockdowns and they showed their faces; later on, they refused to roll up their sleeves – even if it cost them a job. Their health – and their self-respect – was worth more to them than that. In the end, they had the additional satisfaction of not only having been proved right – they passed the IQ test – but also the great feeling that arose from not having been tainted by association with the evil and stupid Sickness Cult.

MAGA is right there, right now. If it wishes to preserve its credibility – and its viability – it must divest itself of Trump because Trump has divested himself of MAGA. He has no rightful claim to lead a movement he has betrayed. Put another way, why should the betrayed feel obliged to not “betray” (as he regards disloyalty) Trump?

Is it a movement – or is it cult?

If the latter, it’s time for people with sense to leave the cult – because no good ever comes of drinking the Kool Aid.

    There was nothing wrong with being MAGA 6 months ago. This is just like COVID – a trap to derail Trump’s agenda. Oddly enough he is up to date on his shots. I think there ought to be term limits for congress and an AGE limit for POTUS. All this talk of worrying about what the president has been exposed to – cabinet members running around insider trading.

    I’m neither here nor there but it’s almost like Eric is pushing the propaganda that 100% of MAGA supports Trump and the War Machine.

    We just have to counter that we are 1776 Patriots, Tea Party patriots as opposed to RINOs and NEOCONS. Whatever we call ourselves the establishment will try and make seem rediculous.

          The fact I voted for Trump does not bear on my questioning the (cough) assassination attempt now. Only an idiot does not change his views when new facts come to light. Yes, I believed the “assassination” was a real attempt on Trump’s life – at the time. I have changed my mind, based on reconsideration of the thing. Trump is a showman as well as a con man. He is close to the world of professional wrestling. So there’s that. There is also absurdity of the way it played out. The way he was allowed to stand and fist pump – and be photo op’d doing that – when there is no way the SS could have known the shooting was over. There is the miraculous turning of his head at just the right split-second to avoid being shot in the head. Just his ear nicked. I do not believe in miracles; I certainly do not believe God stepped in to save Trump. But lots of evangelical Christians do believe this. The event was red meat for them. The Lord has saved Trump!

          I do not say I know, by the way. I merely state that I am suspicious. Everything about Trump is fake and gay.

Funny how the U.S. can export it everywhere else, but God forbid if we drilled for the stuff and kept it for ourselves. As one professor in this neck of the woods, “we should drill for oil, and keep it for ourselves, and to hell with the west coast”. That, after citing how screwed we are up here when it comes to alternative fuel sources. Did Trump forget that the tree huggers keep the oil in the ground? Did he forget this nation is not energy independent? And now limits on fuel (diesel) coming in the one place that has the pipeline in our back yard? You could not make this crap up if you tried.

      • Consider if you will, how to actually bring peace to the Middle East.

        Also as a corollary to this, consider why the Middle East is important. That answer is straightforward, it is a global crossroads, and lately a source for a notable fraction of the planets hydrocarbons.

        Is the way to produce peace/stability to allow warring tribes, clans, and nations to scheme and hurt each other, then to stop them, allow them to lick their wounds, embrace their grievances, rearm with newer, better, weapons, for decade after decade.

        Or is it to allow someone to win, to consolidate the place, and forcibly keep peace? It is possible, the Romans did it, mostly by taking out troublemakers like the Pharisees.

        War is evil and stupid, but is also sometimes necessary. If youโ€™re living in a war zone, and the combat comes to your neighborhood and home, will you stand on principle and refuse to participate? Or will you pick the least bad side and support them? Will you be normal and simply flee in the dark and under cover, telling whatever lies are necessary to survive?

        It is quite clear that we are here. Complaining about statism, racism, antisemitism, is fine when youโ€™re in a strong stable society with a cohesive culture. But when the state gets strong, when the culture is weakened by attacks on your dearest beliefs, on your cars and your guns, on your children and your women, by flooding the country with tens of millions of foreigners hostile to the greatness we had, arguing about โ€œismsโ€ is like arguing about winds, tides, or fire. When the Gestapo is unleashed on you, your choices are fight or die.

        If you take the easy answer, that Trump is evil and stupid, or senile, that the war is insane and without reason, then youโ€™re no longer engaging and are easy to control. If you repeat baseless assertions about kiddy diddling, I have no words. If the assertions have basis, show me that. But letโ€™s be clear, nothing printed, written, or published on video is trustworthy. And since every player has an agenda, witnesses have to be scrutinized carefully.

        Otherwise, weโ€™re burning witches because they canโ€™t prove theyโ€™re not witches.

      • It really does make you wonder, Eric? Maybe I am just not as good at the 4-D and 5-D chess Trump regularly engages in. However, his statement regarding the Strait being closed, and nothing coming through either shows his true colours, is trying to implement some 5D chess move, or is trying to find a way to blame Iran for his own mistakes. Either way (and J, take note, not a bad thing to keep in mind!!), a friend of mine had related that when SHTF, we are dead last up here to receive anything, save for the military bases, of course. The rest of us are SOL, and even more so if this drags on for any lengthy amount of time.

I remember as a kid in Kenai that Mom bought Milkman powdered milk and we had it on our cereal, etc because the real stuff was so expensive. Still and all, with the population density being low and the game being plentiful, Alaska is probably better off than lots of places in the USA.

      I am also thunderstruck by this; I think the reason why Trump is so oblivious is that he is surrounded by sycophants and courtiers – which is what he wants to be surrounded by. Hitler was like that also, from what I have read. The man demanded complete, obsequious approval. Anyone who bothered him with the truth – viz, Guderian – was sacked. Or worse.

    Trump had one job which after 10 years is still unfinished. In fact, the vile slag he was elected to end is as nasty as ever. This should be resisted with every bullet in our arsenal if/when it comes to pass.

    It’s still stunning to me that Dopey orange fail went ahead and stepped into the flaming poo bag left on the porch for him by Israel. It shows a level of boomer hubris bordering on insanity. 7-8$ fuel might just bring on the kind of economic contraction needed for another fakeflu type power grab under the guise of ‘conserving resources.’ Oh well, deep in our hearts most honest people knew we’d have to shot our way out of this.       • No, but actually one of my best friends is Iranian. She was fairly young when she left but was able to go back to visit a couple of times since. It would be a little bit conservative for my taste (and hers as well, actually) to live there permanently but I would love to visit and would not have a problem with abiding by there rules while there.

        It definitely is a beautiful country.

    Sure, thereโ€™s a certain number of true believers in their savior Cheeto Jesus, and a certain number of national greatness flag wavers.

    But the two big reasons to vote for him were 1) Blow the lid off the Epstein thing and frogmarch some people into prison (or, better yet, woodchippers) and 2) Donโ€™t start any wars.

    We got the opposite of those two things. And they were both huge. We got played.

    Unfortunately everyone is still searching for some kind of โ€œleader.โ€ There is no leader. No one is coming to the rescue. Anyone who claims they are, is just another scumbag out of the same pile we got the other ones out of. There will be no solution until/unless enough people figure out that theyโ€™re going to have to fix it themselves, and to do that they are going to have to work together.

    The (more likely) alternative is a descent deeper into tyranny. Everyone cries for a leader in the midst of the chaos, one shows up, enough people rally behind him, the dictatorship becomes official, everything sucks worse.

Honestly pursue every lead in the Epstein Stuff and see to it that those involved in anything having to do with children or treason are held to account. Close the IRS and fund the government with tariffs. Audit the Fed and return the dollar to the gold standard. Force AIPAC to register as a foreign agent and disavow the state of Israel.

  9. I wonder about something. You often resist leaving your quickly becoming a liberal paradise home but laud MTG for leaving the Congress and MAGA. Do you see parallels in recognizing the time to fight vs flee?

    I left a blue state for a red over COVID but I look around and do not really see countrymen and compatriots anywhere. I’m not sure there’s a better place on Earth or not but I realized that Whitney Webb moved to Chile.

    I remember when Glenn Greenwald left for Brazil to escape journalistic persecution at the height of Iraq, Afghanistan, Wikileaks, etc. Although in Greenwald’s case I don’t think it’s been all rosy, having exposed corruption there has put him on political shit lists and he was at one point victim of an armed home invasion so he has body guards now. Must be interesting having that sort of profile and money.

      Were I a younger man, I’d seriously consider ex-pat’ing. Prolly to someplace like Patagonia. But it’s too much upheaval for me now and – more important – my life is here. My friends of many years’ standing are my neighbors. I’ll fight if I am pressed. I hope I do not have to.

    -I fear this is true, but what is the alternative? Remember, the Republicans of the 1920s were for a “return to normalcy” — i.e. no more Wilsonian crusading in Europe, a return to the Monroe Doctrine, America First, and “the business of America is business.”

    What the country got with FDR was the biggest assault on the Constitution since Lincoln and an American dictator who served the same years as The Most Evil Man in History — 1933-1945.

    FDR was a cripple who lied to the public about his health with the assistance of a compliant media, and who got us into the biggest war in human history and got 400,000 Americans killed. He commandeered the entire economy for the war, conscripted 12 million men, rationed consumer goods, fixed prices, outlawed the possession of gold, tried to stack the Supreme Court, allied us with Stalin, jacked up income taxes to stratospheric levels, and instituted the Social Security tax. He broke the two-term tradition and did it with supermajorities in a rubber-stamp Congress for four terms.

    If you think Trump is a narcissistic egomaniac drunk on power, the shit he’s pulled is child’s play compared to FDR. We’ve lost 13 soldiers in one month of the Iran War. We lost 19,000 in one month during the Battle of the Bulge. FDR to Trump: “Hold my beer, punk.”

    Jonah Goldberg was not wrong when he wrote in “Liberal Fascism” that the Roosevelt Administration had all the trappings of fascism and corporatism.

    We’re damned if we do and damned in if we don’t. Yes, we voted Republican and they are in the process of fucking shit up bigly. But what if they hadn’t won? It’s not inconceivable that the Democrats would have tried to outlaw Eric’s Trans-Am to “save the plant” and mandate EVs. Or force him to bring the T/A up to current CARB standards, LOL. Several Democrat states HAVE already mandated the sale of nothing but EVs by 2035. California is going outlaw gas-powered weed whackers.

    The fact is that we’re fucked no matter who “wins” — or steals — the next “election.” The truth is that we have no “choice” that benefits US.

    Yes, and when the stock crash came (which is a mood change) the nation then voted for the Socialist FDR. Likewise, Trump is handing the midterms to the Democrats and in just 80 days I predict that Thomas Massie will win over the Trump pick.

  13. I didn’t vote for Trump. I voted against child sterilization. I voted against unimpeded “immigration.” I voted against EV mandates, “renewables,” and no nukes.

    I voted against the Democratic Party.

    Trump is a fool. A clown. An idiot. He ain’t Andrew Jackson, that’s for sure. But at least he can tell the difference between a man and a woman, and he isn’t a lawyer either. My best hope for this administration was to unwind the Obama and O’Biden legislation and that’s all. But that doesn’t get you in the top ten presidents so of course he’s going to take unnecessary risks and pretend we asked for it.

      I voted for a tool to take apart our illegitimate institutions, and that tool has been a vote very well spent. And we’re still in the first year.

      Same with the “illegal invasion” yes there were a large number of people who should not have been let in brought in during the “Biden” years but the numbers were not as many as the squawking heads on the right claimed (a friend in CBP explained how many of the videos used to stoke outrage were manipulated) and they weren’t technically “illegals” as they were granted “asylum” until some remote date in the future. The language does matter as the way to deal with them would have been to cut off ALL of their benefits other than a free ticket home. The Orange Douchebag administration has NOT done that.

      Consent for this broken system needs to be withdrawn and it cannot be done while voting for the Repukes as some sort of “lesser (NOT) evil”

Despite zionists being predominantly secular and most observant Jews not supporting them, zionists latched onto the hoary biblical notion of colonizing Palestine, then a dusty corner of the Ottoman province of Syria.

    But WW I busted up the Ottoman empire. In 1917 perfidious Albion intervened with a terse, opaquely worded statement:

  16. In what is essentially a two party system and until a viable third party comes into being the politicians who are “supported” by “donations” do not benefit if the Constitution is upheld.

    As an added bonus the politicians generally avoid fulfilling any campaign promises that benefit the actual voters rather than the people that “support” them. Decades ago Eddy Murphy if I remember correctly was in a movie about this.

    Damned if you, damned if you don’t is where we are at this point. ๐Ÿ™
