July the 4th is a strange holiday. People who aren’t free to be left in peace are celebrating what, exactly? That the state only takes a fourth to a third of every dollar they earn? Well, that’s certainly something to be grateful for, perhaps. But celebrate? Do the convicts in prison celebrate when the warden says they can stay in the yard an extra half-hour before being returned to their cells? If they do, it is a degradation; a form of buck dancing.
The 4th is supposed to be the day Americans celebrate the day the Declaration of Independence was promulgated. More specifically, the day that the American colonists – well, some of them – officially declared that they were henceforth independent of the authority of the state of Great Britain. This is the important part and that is why it is the part that is almost never discussed and when it is discussed, it is discussed only cursorily, without getting into what it means. The reason why is obvious.
It was not merely that a Declaration of Independence from the state of Great Britain was promulgated. That is problematic enough, from the standpoint of modernity. Think about what it implies if it was legitimate – something to be celebrated – for the American colonists to say, in effect: We deny that the state of Great Britain legitimately rules us. We withdraw our consent and by doing so, the state no longer has moral authority to exert its authority over us. We are separating ourselves from the state of Great Britain.
These are extremely dangerous words.
At least, they became so after the failed attempt of the Southern states to withdraw their consent and separate from a union they no longer wished to be a part of. They also declared independence – withdrew their consent – on April 17, 1861 and this day would have been a day to celebrate had the Southern states successfully asserted their independence, as the thirteen colonies did.
Talk of slavery is a kind of important non sequitur. Of course slavery is a terrible thing. Who would say it is not? But it is beside the point. More finely, it is the point (the non sequitur) that statist want everyone to focus on in making the case that Southern states were in the wrong because there was slavery in the South. Certainly. But it is the principle of consent-withdrawal they do not want discussed, especially among kids. That is crucial. They are taught that Abe Lincoln subdued the Southern states to end slavery. That was incidental. He himself said so, repeatedly. The war was fought to make it clear that the consent of the governed was no longer required, as far as the state was concerned. Abe didn’t quite out it that way, of course. He waxed eloquent about the “union,” as if that made a forced arrangement sacred.
Of course, the state of Great Britain had the same view.
The difference is the American colonies won their independence while the Southern states lost theirs. That is why Americans celebrate on July the 4th while April the 17th is almost entirely forgotten; it is just another day.
And yet, they do not generally celebrate the thing that is the crux of the 4th of July holiday. They they celebrate “freedom” – a fine-sounding vagueness that is never clearly defined. Free? How, exactly? To do what, exactly? To listen to Lee Greenwood? Well, we are free to work, so long as we hand over a fourth to a third of what we earn to the state. If we do not hand it over, there is a good chance our “freedom” will be rescinded. We are certainly not free to be left alone, even to the extent of harmless (to anyone else) moralistic pedantry such as not being free to drive a car without wearing a seatbelt. We have become numb to such effronterous assaults upon freedom. Think about it! A supposedly “free” man must “buckle up” for “safety.”
People celebrate this.
We must carry around state-issued IDs and present them on demand to teenaged checkout clerks acting as the state’s enforcers of minimum age laws (as regards the purchase of beer and wine) and also of for-your-own-good laws that say you can only buy cough syrup after the clerk scans your ID, so the state knows you bought cough syrup. Is that something worth celebrating?
Yes, we are allowed more options than people housed in prisons. It does not mean we live in a “free” country.
This is what they – the state’s operators, the conscious ones, not the lower-tier agents of the state such as schoolteachers – do not want people thinking about, because then they might not celebrate. They might riot. Far better to egg them on to light cones that emit sparks but do not fly (bottle rockets and firecrackers are mostly outlawed now, another example of the “freedom” we no longer have) and drink beer (assuming they have ID) and hear patriotic speeches and songs assuring them of their “freedom,” admonishing them to be grateful to the state that they have it.
The sad hilarity of this escapes most of them.
The 4th is certainly the day that independence ought to be remembered. Not the independence from the state of Great Britain that was declared on July the 4th, 250 years ago but the idea of independence, from the state. That is the true meaning of the holiday. It is a thing well worth celebrating, if it can ever be achieved. For that to happen, it will be necessary for each of us, as individuals, to declare our independence from the state.
To declare that we do not consent to be ruled over by anyone unless we have explicitly consented – without coercion of any kind – and that our consent is not binding on any other human being. It is a revolution – in the mind. Of our attitude toward anyone who would dare to “govern” us.
That’s a proper declaration of independence and it is the only one that will ever lead to freedom from the state.

By way of grants of power ceded by the States to the Federal government via the Constitution, the Federal government began as an island of specifically-enumerated and narrowly-defined powers surrounded by a vast ocean of liberty and unceded powers retained by the People and the States. Criminally, over time and due to judicial activism and abrogation of responsibilities of the Legislative branch, that island of discrete government power has accreted into a vast ocean of government powers surrounding an island of ever-shrinking liberty and “fundamental” rights (the Bill of Rights).

Also: It is important to remember that the Constitutional arose as the intended result of what can fairly be described as a coup. The Articles of Confederation were only supposed to be tweaked – not replaced. The Constitution didn’t even originally have a Bill of Rights. The latter was tacked on as a salve of sorts to appease the people alarmed by the consolidation of power in this new federal government.
Speaking of judicial activism, a major flaw of the current constitution, is a total lack of any method of enforcing itself. The SCOTUS is NOT granted that power in the Constitution. Secession was a somewhat effective means of enforcement, until Lincoln. State legislatures selecting senators was a less effective means, and even that was destroyed by the 17th amendment in 1913. Leaving only the SCOTUS to illegally enforce it. The federal government has been illegal ever since.
Indeed. The Feds started eroding the Constitution almost immediately. SCOTUS (Justice Marshall) arrogated to itself the fabricated power of Judicial Review, in Marbury v. Madison.
If not a return to the Articles of Confederation, then I say scrap all SCOTUS case law and start over. If I had a magic wand, my first priorities: Abolish the Federal Reserve (for short-term, immediate improvement), scrap all government schooling and subsidies (for the Long Game, of ending generational brain-washing). And dump the 16th and 17th Amendments, for sure. Naturally, razing the Administrative State down to the ground makes sense too.

It took a long time to turn us into serfs and it will take a long time to turn us back into free men. Many blame the Jews, tranzis (transnational progressives), foreigners, feminists and what have you but in the end whether by hook or by crook we allowed it to happen to us.
Step one is learning to say NO and voting for what this country stood for long ago and with hard work may well stand for again.

Per my conversation with my friend – who opposes the income tax but defends the property tax. This is why we have income taxes (and all the other taxes). Because it becomes a subjective/utilitarian debate over what “needs” to be “funded” – according to the subjective notions of “need” held by some people. It is never a debate about not forcing anyone to pay any taxes.
Objecting in principle to taxes – which is to say, to theft – is the only way out of this mess. What’s yours is yours and what belongs to other belongs to them. If you “need” or just want something, then go ahead and buy what you need or want – or work to earn the money to pay for it yourself. My friend says he “needs” (or just wants) cops and “the schools” – and so it’s ok to use the local government as tax collector to pay for these things. But he objects to the same thing being done at the federal level.

You’re right, of course. But it misses the point. Which is that the same government that “freed” the slaves asserted ownership over everyone. Slavery was generalized, in other words. Many people don’t see it because it’s been modified. It is illegal to own a person in the sense that a slave in the old South was owned but we are all owned nonetheless. We are governed without our consent. We – like any slave – are obliged to work for the benefit of others, contrary to our consent. We are not allowed to own property (property taxes make this impossible). We are told what we are allowed to do and not allowed to do. It is fundamentally the same thing, just less obvious (to some) because we’re allowed more in the sense of material things (which we’re allowed to conditionally posses and conditionally use) and because the plantation is larger and we are allowed to move within it – though even that is gradually being turned into another privilege we’re allowed by massa.
A free man is someone is who is free. He is a man not chained to other men. He owns himself and that ownership is expressed by his having full control over his life, his work and his associations and speech (to cite the vitals). No American enjoys those freedoms.
Also: Lincoln did not fight the war over slavery but over federal supremacy (as expressed by tariffs). Lincoln openly stated on several occasions that his goal was to preserve the union at any cost – including acceptance of slavery where it existed in the South. The Emancipation Proclamation freed no slaves in the North (where slavery was still legal, at the time). And it came as a war measure, years after the war began. Lincoln hoped to incite a slave rebellion in the South. It never had anything to do with Massa Abe wanting black people to have equal standing with white people. That is a false piety of modernity; a lie taught to children.

If you have to ask permission to act in a manner that uses no force or fraud, you are not free…..all of the flowery rhetoric notwithstanding, the U.S.S.A. we have today stands today like all collectivist power structures as a violent, destructive, and dying culture. It is ridiculous to talk about “consent of the governed” when the majority of the people in the seceding states were SLAVES. It wouldn’t make sense if even only a minority were slaves. It is amazing how that whizzes right past all confederates’ heads. To argue everyone was not free after the civil war makes no sense at all. Blacks were more free and everyone else was just as free as they ever were. You are free to try to get a majority in your state to secede and you are free to fight another civil war if necessary. If you think it would be to your advantage, do it.
Can you cite evidence that the majority of the people in the south were chattel slaves? The largest percentage of slave ownership in the CSA was South Carolina at 11%. SC was also the richest of the original 13 colonies, FWIW. Most of the whites living in the southern states were poor, sometimes much poorer conditions than most slaves endured. That said, the Emancipation Proclamation did not appear until January 1863…..slavery was the day’s Gulf of Tonkin, WMDs, Lusitania etc, simply an excuse to shut down any hope of local autonomy in favor of a strong central government with standing armies, central bank and all of the impediments to individual freedom that go along with collectivist ideology.

I think you miss the point. The Confederacy sought to secede because it did not consent. It is the principle of consent – and the corollary right to secede – that is the thing here. Blacks slaves had the same right to secede because they also did not consent; the fact that they were enslaved does not in any way diminish the principle of secession/consent. Rather, I think it makes the point. If no one had the right to own a black man, then no one has the right to own any man – or any part of him. That includes his labor. If another man owns any part of you, then to that extent you are effectively enslaved by him.
It’s easy to beat the straw man of “confederates were slave owners!” – but even Lincoln did not say he pursued the Confederacy over slavery. He pursued it to force the Southern states back into a coercive “union.” He wanted everyone back on the plantation. It is a scaled-up version of being forced to stay married to someone you no longer wish to be married to.
I have always thought “consent of the governed” was a polite fiction/impossible ideal. I especially found it hypocritical in the DOI when they said ALL men created equal and immediately excepted men who were slaves (who needed it most!). As you say about our “consent” consisting of a vote that may go against us on issues/rep, but even if we “win” it is only until the next election and our rep is under no obligation to do what they campaigned on or what their constituents want (and its hardly possible to do everything every constituent wants).

Slavery is not consistent with consent of the governed! Obviously. I tried to explain my reasoning.
Lincoln was a tyrant, a shyster and a grifter. An ex lawyer for the railroads, who were the Tesla of the era. He got rich representing speculators who profited on land buying/selling based on insider information about where the tracks were going to go.
He threatened a sitting Supreme Court justice with arrest; he suspended habeas corpus and made criticizing him an offense. He freed no slaves; he issued a proclamation freeing slaves in territory he did not control. Slavery remained legal in the North throughout the war. He was widely hated – North and South. It was only after he was killed that a cult grew up venerating (deifying) him. He was the founder of the United State – singular.

This country was never meant to be majority rule; it is a despicable, dangerous thing. It means that no one has any rights that cannot be taken away if a majority so decides. The country was supposed to be a constitutional republic, with multiple checks on majority rule.
What would be so bad about “endless fragmentation”? That would decentralize power and by dint of giving people alternatives, it would foster much greater freedom than is enjoyed by people who have no alternative.

It took “four score and seven” for someone like Lincoln to come along and peddle the lie that federal authority was perpetual and permanent.
I am no fan of Lincoln and do believe he provoked Ft. Sumter and the civil war by calling up militias and expanding the army without congressional approval.
However, (1) he was anti-slavery. He did free slaves in DC: “He signed the Compensated Emancipation Act into law on April 16, 1862, which emancipated roughly 3,000 enslaved people in the District of Columbia. The D.C. Emancipation Act did three primary things: Provided immediate freedom for enslaved people in the District. Included funds to pay loyal Unionist enslavers up to $300 per freed person. Established a fund to encourage voluntary colonization of freed individuals outside the United States.”
He lost 1858 Senate race to Douglas over the slavery issue. (AI) “Stephen A. Douglas: The incumbent argued for “popular sovereignty,” the idea that the residents of a territory should have the right to vote on and decide whether to allow slavery themselves.

(2) Lincoln did not invent the idea of “preserving the union.” All the candidates in 1860 campaigned on preserving the union. In 1860 Lincoln ran on not expanding slavery in new territories, but he was not going to do anything about slavery in existing states TO PRESERVE THE UNION. There was a split in the democratic party in 1860. Douglas campaigned in the South saying that secession was illegal and after Ft. Sumter, he supported Lincoln saying, “There can be no neutrals in this war; only patriots and traitors” (and called for 200k troops vs Lincoln’s 75k).
Buchanan’s VP Breckinridge also ran as a democrat and while championing rights of slave owners wanted to preserve their rights IN THE UNION. A party calling itself “constitutional union” was on the ballot to get enough votes to throw the election into the electoral college. A TN slave owner was their presidential candidate and a northerner was VP candidate whose children went to school with blacks (negative campaign ad)–the party didn’t take a position on slavery or any issue except “preserving the union.” This party won KY, TN and VA. But if you look at the polling data, it won substantial votes throughout the south.

I agree with Calhoun on secession, but his idea was strongly opposed from the beginning. Also whether it was wise for South (or any state) to secede is another matter. You say endless fragmentation is the worst possible scenario, but how do you know democracy would survive at all? Would wars go from being unknown to being frequent on this continent? Is it easier to gain control over a large nation or a small one? Are people in a company town better off if their only recourse is to the people who live in the company town? You could have a Napoleon/Hitler amass an army and take over several states/regions and then the whole. Each division would have to have its own defense and currency. What about banks/monetary savings security? Interstate commerce? It could be easy for Mexico, Canada, China etc. to pick off pieces. Or states could want to affiliate with Canada/Mexico/China or Britain or among themselves. How would you have a national highway system? For the states that were left, if they were not contiguous, how do you handle transport/getting back and forth–do you need visas, pay tariffs etc.? What about when states want to come back in?
A major flaw in the constitution is its lack of any means of enforcing itself. It does NOT delegate that power to the SCOTUS. The threat of secession is a quite effective means of enforcement, along with the State’s legislatures selecting senators, which was ended in 1913 with the 17th ammendment
I recently learned from watching a Lucy Worsley Investigates the American Revolution program on PBS that one of the British colonial governors offered freedom to any slave or indentured servant who would fight for King George against the Revolutionists. It turned many slave and indentured servant owners who had remained loyal to the crown toward the revolt.
Lord Dunmore’s Proclamation, 1775: “On November 7, 1775, Dunmore proclaimed martial law and offered freedom to enslaved people and indentured servants who agreed to fight for the king. This offer, and his subsequent recruitment and outfitting of a regiment of Black soldiers, alienated the remaining influential planters and political leaders who until then had stayed loyal to the Crown. Thomas Jefferson included “prompting our negroes to rise in arms against us” among the grievances against the king in his draft of the constitution adopted by Virginia in June 1776. Dunmore’s proclamation prompted many enslaved persons to escape (as many as 2,000 reached the governor) and raised widespread fear of a slave rebellion.”

To say slavery had nothing to do with the civil war when the southern states seceded because Lincoln campaigned and won on a no expansion of slavery platform is dishonest.

Lincoln first freed the slaves in DC in September 1862 and then in the Confederacy 1 Jan 1863 (he didn’t feel had constitutional authority to free the slaves in the states that had not seceded). The move would not only hopefully turn slaves toward the Union side, it turned the war into a “moral crusade” which made recruitment easier on the Union side and also ensured that Britain and France which had both abolished slavery would not aid the confederacy.
The Union did not begin to win until Gettysburg July 1-3, 1863. It could be Lee’s mistake was to invade the Union. It could be the Confederacy was always doomed due to their lack of resources/manpower. But it could also be that they did not have right on their side in the issue of slavery–and both sides knew it.
I never understood the concept of “preserving the union,” but do understand now that it would have broken the U.S. up and made it vulnerable to more states seceding, never joining, wars between states and also for European powers/Mexico/Canada to move in etc. However, I don’t believe Lincoln could get a war going over that. The war was got going over slavery and also that the secessionists had fired on the union forces.

I was deliberately conservative in my estimate, which did not factor in all the myriad other taxes and fees we’re obliged to pay. The total extraction is prolly closer to half or more, especially when you take into account the opportunity cost.
Next time factor in inflation. Fed predators say their goal is a 2% inflation target. 2% x 10 years is 20% of your savings stolen. To save money you first have to work and pay taxes. To save $100 you must make more than that, a lot more.
Currently, the Fed is way below their target rate. IMO the Fed is criminal institutionalized inflationary engine, allowing the Federal Government of CRIMINALS to way overspend, never balance the budget. I believe the creation of the Fed was for this very reason.
I am old enough to remember the inflationary 1970s. When I went shopping for my first mortgage, the banks were charging 18%. Why were mortgage rates that high? Interest rates are 2% over inflation.
At that time, I remember the mortgage was going to be $100,000. I calculated at that time at that rate the interest over 30 fixed was going to be $200,000. That starter house in 1983 was going to cost me $300,000, not the advertized $100,000.
Libertarians say inflation is a type of tax. You probably agree, thus you have understated the real tax rate by at least 50%. The real tax rate must be more than 100% based on the observation most Amerikans can not make ends meet even though they are working multiple jobs.

This document was always problematical and contradictory from the get go–if we are inalienably endowed by a “creator,” why do we need a government to “secure these rights” for us? At the same time they declared everyone independent of Britain, they subjected them to another government. As EP says, the “declaration of independence” was actually a declaration of war. The U.S. “won” the war, but what about the people who were conscripted into the “continental army” or the “state militias” and were killed/maimed (some right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness when you are immediately conscripted to fight a war (same with the civil war/war for Southern Independence (whatever you want to call it) or jailed/killed for not fighting)? What about those who were taxed to pay for the war or who had to quarter the continental army? The individual states all already had laws that jailed people (deprived of liberty), deprived them of life and interfered with their “pursuit of happiness”–some indeed were religious colonies where you could be banished/fined for your religious views. You could also be denied entry if you were a pauper. No-one was governed by “consent” but same as today by “birth right” citizenship (i.e. where you happen to be born). The signers didn’t even agree on “the creator” they posited to endow them with the inalienable rights that they immediately deprived themselves and their fellow men of–and, of course, if you were a female, child or slave/indentured, the declaration didn’t apply to you. IMO behind the flowery words, it was just meet the new boss, same as the old boss (because we are strong/clever enough to get away with it). [In the 1980s a public 9th grader I tutored had to rewrite an essay containing similar views with what their text book said about the DOI–and still got a “D” for the assignment (I got fired).]
Today you see some rich people like Peter Thiel (and Epstein, Jim Jones) buying islands/land and attempting to create their own states/systems of government which people were able to do when the United States was “unclaimed” by anyone but those easily defeated/conquered by Europeans (Massachusetts Bay Colony, The Quakers in Pennsylvania). You also had the “frontier” and “Wild West” where you were subject to roving Indians/Europeans and not many amenities/comforts of civilization. EP says that he can defend himself and that the police force would not get there in time, but he ignores the fact that there IS a police force which cuts down probability of crime significantly. He has no wife/children so only concerned with defending himself. Still, I don’t see him going to wild, desert/tropical disease ridden places where he could probably still be “free” like those people were. I like liberty, but on the other hand I also see how “freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose.” Women are much freer now than they were even 100 years ago, but just like white men were freer at the expense of women, blacks/Indians etc. (same as Trump now), women are freer at the expense of men and children.

Ironically, after 600,000 Americans perished in an effort to keep the country together as a union and after freeing people from slavery, this country is more divided than ever especially among the descendants of that slavery. Now these descendants want to be the slavers and others the slaves to provide for their human wants at no human effort to themselves. All they have to do is be loyal to a political party that believes human effort belongs to the state, to which the state can take at will and redistribute this human effort to its loyal members.
The decedents of slavery have been convinced they are people entitled to the human effort of strangers because they are heroic victims of past wrongs. Hard work, owning your own business, moving up the food chain, for now, it’s all still possible. Always loved this time of year. We went to the Rim lakes this week, not too crowded Mon-wed. Will go to an old fashioned parade and big band music show in old town Clarkdale, which always takes us back, makes us remember when. Then we get to have our Saturday poker game, where we play seven card stud and talk about verboten shit.

One freedom we still have, for now, is the freedom to say NO to forced, er, mandatory vaccination, though there are still mandated vaccines for children in various states, and the establishment WANTED to expand vaccine mandates to adults. Heck, it was just 5 years ago that an incumbent president, albeit a demented one, tried to make it MANDATORY for millions of Americans who have a job to take an experimental COVID vaxx to keep their job, which many Americans astoundingly CHEERED. You may remember that the demented president Joe Biden actually threatened to send government goons door to door to get people vaxxed with that (then) brand new COVID vaxx. But I’ve read stories of communities where there actually were government goons going door to door, which begged the question “Were they doctors?” And who did you sue if you did get vaxxed but suffered an adverse side effect, given that you couldn’t sue vaccine manufacturers thanks to a law passed in the 1980s.
There was also a video of Tony Fauci and the DC mayor going door to door in a black neighborhood in DC to get black people vaxxed. One black person was ready for them with questions that Fauci and Muriel Bowser either couldn’t answer or deflected to “Social responsibility to get vaxxed”.
Does anyone here remember the 2006 film Idiocracy? It increasingly appears that we’re living a real life version of that film as too many Americans look to government and/ or a particular political party (Democrat or Republican) as THE answer to various problems. But as we’ve seen countless times over the past several years, government is all too often the CAUSE of numerous problems, such as declining health among Americans and everything becoming more expensive, and when government CAUSES a problem, politicians invariably propose some new law or Americans look to GOVERNMENT to fix it, which tends to create yet MORE PROBLEMS.
Various government agencies have also been created over the past 100+ years to “Solve” a particular problem, but how many of them have, over time, ended up being examples of regulatory capture, where they look out NOT for the interests of “The Public” but the interests of the industry they purportedly regulate. I don’t think so. Even if only 5% go and vote there will be a government who will control society and create laws. Only this time you will have no choice and that 5% will rule you. Dropping out is not the answer.

If only 5% vote the government has no mandate to rule and would realize it doesn’t enjoy the consent of the “governed.” There is a reason why the U.S. was forced to pause the war in Iran — it’s because it was extremely unpopular. It’s absurd to celebrate independence when the government now taxes at something like 20 times as much. They were pissed over a few cents tax on tea, like if Starbucks was forced to charge you a $1 for your latte for King Donald even though you got 100% of your salary. The truth is that we are never going to live in a state as independent as the one declared in 1776 and formalized in 1781 by the Articles of Confederation. Even then it was “too independent” and the Constitution was written only a few years later to centralize power — ostensibly only limited and enumerated powers, but as we have seen over the past 250 years the safeguards intended to limit and enumerate those powers have more or less been completely eviscerated.
The fact is that we live under a Leviathan government that is a global empire. George III and his Redcoats look positively childish compared to today’s militarized SWAT teams, the panopticon surveillance state, the practically unlimited regulatory state, and the global military/warfare complex.

How should one cope with this? You cannot challenge it directly or you will get stomped on like an ant on the sidewalk.
The only thing you can do is utilize the power of “No.” No, I will not submit. No, I will not agree. No, I will not go along to get along. I will not worship your flag or your police, I will not delude myself with your lies, and I will not partake of your synthetic, manufactured pop culture and your wars and your pornography and your sportsball and your and your “entertainment” and your political circus.
Of course this is very difficult, and it is for the very few. You will be ostracized, you will pay an economic penalty. You will pay a social penalty; people in general and women in particular do not like independent free thinkers, they like people who have status within The System.
Worse, you could be arrested for saying “No” to symbols of compliance such as COVID masks. Or flying a Confederate flag instead of a Gay Pride flag. Or a Star of David flag.
But that is the price you pay for being yourself. The best way to do this is to simply check out and live as rural and as alone as possible. It is of course difficult, and it is becoming more difficult as affordable rural spaces are vanishing. Let us not forget that the main component of freedom 250 years ago was the ability to be left alone, to go out into the vast open spaces and live your own life as you saw fit without some government asshole’s boot on your throat every day. Common people could do it, because land was practically free — it was “dirt cheap.” No more.
If you can’t do that, the very least you can do is call out the bullshit. It will not make you any friends, but you will be able to live with yourself.

Many students in most high schools have quit doing the school work or even trying to pay attention, and still the majority are promoted and graduate.
