The Orange Man is annoyed with Mary Barra – the postmodernist in charge of GM. He wants to know why GM is idling plants – including the Lordstown, Ohio plant where the Chevy Cruze is made – and firing workers when the economy (including the car business) is booming.
“I asked her to sell it or do something quickly.”
The Orange Man should have asked Barra why GM is using the money it mulcted from the American taxpayer to build up its business in China.
GM released a statement which read – in part:
“We remain open to talking with all affected stakeholders, but our main focus remains on our employees and offering them jobs in our plants where we have growth opportunities.”
Will GM “offer opportunities” for the American workers it lays off in China? Or will it, instead, hire Chinese workers to work the Chinese factories that build GM vehicles not here?
GM has every right to relocate operations to China . . . on its own dime. But it took many dimes from the American taxpayer, explicitly on the theory that America would benefit if GM didn’t go bankrupt.
And all those jobs disappeared.
Now they are disappearing anyway – and being handed over to the Chinese, the offshoring costs financed by the American workers mulcted for the benefit of GM.
And for the benefit of Barra – who takes in about $20 million annually.
