What has happened to American can be seen in the form of what’s happening to Americans – as when they get “pulled over” for some trivial reason such as not having the right or up-to-date inspection/registration sticker.
Here’s an example just put online by a lawyer who tries to get these things seen so that more Americans will see what’s become of this country:
A man in his mid-sixties and his wife get “pulled over” because an armed government worker has noticed an out-of-date sticker/registration. It’s not even a moving violation, so it’s not possible to make even the usual silly argument-apologia that guy who got pulled over might have been driving in a manner that could have resulted in harm to other people – as is generally done when armed government workers pull people over for such victimless crimes as “speeding” or making a right on red.
In this case, the armed government worker pulls the 65-year-old driver out of his car – apparently, because the man questioned why he was being ordered to get out of his car given he’d committed no crime or even a moving violation of some kind – and proceeds to pummel him in the face while ululating Stop Resisting! – the battle cry of cowards-with-badges who enjoy pretending they re defending themselves when the person they’re beating up tries to ward off the blows.
The beaten-down man is then charged with serious crimes – felonies – because he “resisted.”
And it all began with an out-of-date sticker/registration. That is to say, it began over nothing.
When America was still that – some of us can remember – if a person got “pulled over” for something petty like an out-of-date sticker/registration – the cop (and we had them in those days) would generally issue a “fix it” ticket, which just meant get it taken care of and that was the end of it. One could haggle with – even question – the cop and not get keelhauled out of your car and beaten up over it. I know because that’s how it was, once. I got pulled over a lot by cops back in the ’80s when I was young and committed many moving violations. Not once was I ever ordered out the car I was driving much less beaten up for not doing so. Because cops didn’t, in those days, demand people get out of their cars just because they talked back when all they’d otherwise done was commit some petty traffic infraction.
It’s different now. In part because we really don’t have cops anymore. The latter understood the difference between a criminal and a fellow citizen understandably annoyed about being pulled over to get a piece of payin’ paper. Cop didn’t think of themselves as Judge – I am the Law – Dredd and the slightest questioning of their authority warranting a lesson about the price of questioning it. Cope were – mostly – just ordinary men rather than authoritarian sadist types, as in the beatdown of the motorist in the video embedded with this article. There was even a kind of good-natured cat-and-mouseness between drivers and cops. Sheriff Roscoe Coltrane from the Dukes of Hazzard was much more reflective of the reality than the depiction of near-deified “heroes” on TV today.
These “heroes” are, of course, cowards – who cringe in fear for their “safety,” notwithstanding their armored outfits, array of weaponry hanging off their utility belts and the full weight of The Law backing them up.
America was just that, once. America.

What frosts me is when I hear about “officer safety” being the priority.

Motorists are at their mercy and have no such abilities or rights when the encounter begins or control over when it ends. We can’t just leave because we feel endangered.

Jordan Peterson discusses a book which became a documentary on Netflix called “Ordinary Men”. Peterson discusses how regular Germans, who were older and did not go through the Nazi indoctrination process, were drafted and assigned to a police unit in occupied Poland. Their leader reluctantly informs them when they arrive that they have been assigned rather difficult duty of exterminating Jews. The Leader of the police unit allows those who wish to opt out the opportunity to do so. A few do choose not to participate however they are ostracized and condemned by the others. A large majority do participate. Some join out of a sense of not wanting to allow their comrades to be stuck with the dirty duty alone. Others find they like killing and enjoy it.
Peterson’s point is: psychologically how normal men who were blue-collar and white-collar types can be transformed into a killing brigade without much effort. A dangerous slippery slope that has already been crossed is that of police officers being trained to regard the average citizen as the “enemy”.
Every military in the world depersonalizes (dehumanizes) the “enemy”. In a war footing this is a necessary part of combat–getting ordinarily non-violent people to attack the enemy without regard to his humanity.
Problems arise when these tactics are used by civilian police departments. Although military veterans can make excellent police officers, this “depersonalization” training that they received in the military is not reversed. In fact, in most police departments, this is seen as a “plus”. This results in unnecessary citizen “casualties” often with tragic results.
Add to that, the “israeli model” of policing is the norm for almost every American police department, trainers being sent to israel to “see how its done”, practicing on Palestinians. For what it is worth:
A military example of how urban policing might work better was demonstrated in Fallujah. We were losing the battle of Fallujah until there was a change in tactics. We would patrol the city during the day and return to base at night. If any of the locals were seen talking to US forces during the day they had their heads cut off and families raped and killed at night. A young Captain argued this point and came up with a solution before he was killed in combat. The change in tactics came when instead of leaving back to base, we established local bases within the city. We stayed. Then the locals were more than happy to point out the killing rapist who was threatening them and their families. We won the battle but ultimately lost a war we should never had started by the chimp.
How it could work here: have police departments rent houses in the worst urban neighborhoods and man these like fire-stations with crews on/off duty staying for 4-5 days at a time. The bad guy drug dealers and pimps running the neighborhood would move on and the locals get their neighborhood back. This might build trust and support. Unfortunately, I don’t see this happening ever due to the AWG’s view all of us as either the *enemy* or *prey* as revenue resources.
Look up the USMC Combined Action Program. This was a successful counterinsurgency operation that has not received much publicity as it ran counter to the large unit operations that were prevalent in Vietnam.
This program embedded Marines with Vietnamese Popular Forces, who were pretty much similar to military reservists. Not only that, Marines lived in the villages 24-7, helping out the inhabitants during the day, running patrols at night and at irregular times and moving from village to village, the enemy never being able to pinpoint where the Marines and Popular Forces resided. This was one of the success stories that never gained traction in the larger military picture because it didn’t take much in the manpower department to be effective. Officers were not a part of this operation, the top leadership of Marines in the village being either a Marine Corporal or Sergeant. Quite often, these counterinsurgency operations were undermanned, but were still successful. Villages so selected never reverted back to VC or North Vietnamese control. This was one of the unsung success stories during the Vietnam war.

There were both kinds “back then”. Most were as Eric describes. Reasonable guys who would just give you the “Go and sin no more.”, and ones who delighted in imposing their authority to make you suffer. As a teen in the late ’50s, I encountered both. I walked for 90 days when word of an organizational meeting of a hot rod club had state troopers waiting for the prey when the meeting ended. I got pulled over for “unlawful passing” for passing another vehicle in a traffic circle. (?????) The trooper who pulled me over talked to me for 10 minutes and had decided to let me off with a warning. The head of the “Stop the Hot Rod Club” task force showed up and asked if the other trooper had written me up. When he said “No”, the supervisor said “Well, I will then”. The local judge, known as “Black Mike” pulled the license of anyone under 18 who appeared in court. No questions asked, no comments allowed. Injustice is not new in the U. S. of A.
I have posted before about the guy who showed up where we all used to “hang out” in a brand new 1957 Ford. He wanted to know if anyone had a car that he might take on to see how his new car would do. After the race, when the traditional “look under the hoods” event took place, he pulled out his NJ State Trooper badge, said “You guys should be more careful who you race.”, got in his brand new, yet unmarked State Trooper car, and drove away.

Came across a checker at a grocery store the other day who still thought that. She asked for ID, & when told no, she asked, “You’re not a cop, are ya?” before she proceeded with the sale. …As if cops can’t lie.

I’m 55, and I also got pulled over a lot in the eighties. I was never physically pulled out of my car, but I was naive enough to consent to a search of my car a few times. I didn’t realize I could say no.
I drove a lot of $40-$100 hoopties back then. These hoopties, and my long hippy hair, were targets for the cops.
I thank these hoopties for honing my wrenching skills.
I am trying to remember when it all went south. I think about the time the phrase “officer safety” started getting used. I had never heard that term in the eighties. Maybe late nineties is when it first started getting thrown around.
Yes: “resisting arrest” is literally the natural reaction of lifting your arm to protect your head from being beaten with a baton or fist. That will get you charged with “resisting.”
