Have you ever wondered why there’s no such thing as “anti-Switzerism”? It’s an interesting question to ask because if begs some questions about Israel.
Switzerland and Israel are both small countries, but the Swiss aren’t looking to make Switzerland “greater.” Swiss “settlers” do not seize land in neighboring France or Germany or Italy. It is why Switzerland’s neighbors regard the Swiss as good neighbors. The Swiss government (and the Swiss military) has never been accused of torturing anyone – or of committing genocide. The Swiss president has not been indicted for war crimes. The Swiss, like the Israelis, are prosperous but the prosperity of the Swiss comes from commerce while the prosperity of Israel derives from the “aid” it receives from the United States; that is to say, the wealth expropriated from American taxpayers and transferred to Israel. Also via various “defense” programs that entail American taxpayers paying for the “defense” of Israel (which is often offense, as in Gaza and Lebanon).
There is no Swiss Lobby to speak of in the United States. No American congressman or senator feels pressured to wear a Swiss flag pin or have the Swiss flag displayed outside his office. One almost never hears American political leaders mention Switzerland at all. That’s probably why there’s no anti-Switzerism.
One hears a lot about “anti-Semitism,” though. It is held to be an irrational (and by dint of that, unjustified) animosity toward people who happen to be Jewish. Which would be true – if that were true. Of course, it is nothing of the sort. It is a rational expression of outrage and disgust toward the state of Israel, the people who run it and the people who want us to shut up about it. The idea is to impugn motives – you just hate the Jews! – so as to dismiss the questions.
It isn’t working as well as it once did – just the same as it no longer works very well to accuse someone of being “phobic” for refusing to accept being pressured to pretend that a man who insists he’s a woman is in fact a woman. The shrieks of outrage have lost their puissance. Most people probably don’t care – let alone have any animosity – toward a man who wants to pretend he’s a woman. It can be entertaining (viz, Dr. Frank N. Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show). It can also be ignored, when it is not shoved in your face. When you are not required to pretend that biological sex is a matter of how one feels about it and so fungible according to feelings. Just the same, most people probably don’t dislike Jewish people just because they happened to have been born in that religious tradition or because they adhere to the tenets of their religion. They do dislike being taxed to support religious land-grab and regional supremacy claims and the wars that end up being fought over it. 
They are understandably affronted by the sight of Israeli flags outside the offices of American congressmen and senators – and by the sight of Israeli lapel pins on the collars of these congressmen and senators, who ostensibly represent us. It is natural to resent them representing something else. They are not Jew-haters because they oppose not being free to openly question – or criticize – the actions of the state of Israel. Or because they wish to not do business with the state of Israel, as a way to express their disapproval of the actions of the state of Israel. In brief, they tire of being accused of “anti-Semitism” merely because they decline to put Israeli’s interests ahead of their own interests.
If Israel were like Switzerland, it is probable there would be very little “anti-Semitism.” Maybe the Israelis ought to give that some thought.

Switzerland is one of *the* most militarized countries in the world in that all their citizens serve and are trained. (Same as Israel) Also, they have the good fortune of living in a country which is mountainous and accessible only via certain well-guarded passes. Even Hitler was not going to spend any time fighting a ground war with the Swiss, better to bargain with them to which he did. Switzerland is a land locked country and safe. Therefore, the one asset they have was and is to be the bank vault for Europe. They have been smart to not inflate their currency and keep out of World War 1 & 2. This came with a price of collaboration with the Nazis to which they never faced any repercussions at Nurenberg nor from victims of the Holocaust to which their assets were stolen and stored in Switzerland.
However, food for thought…if say Rumanians told the world *they* were the original inhabitants the land of the Swiss. Let just say they invaded a portion of Switzerland and killed and raped 1200 Swiss citizens. What would Switzerland’s response be? Nothing?
The world has been ruled and controlled since antiquity by the aggressive use of force and violence. The concept of man living free, unmolested by others and having inalienable rights and personal property by virtue bestowed by his creator, is a recent concept of the last 300-400 years and only applied in limited areas where it is allowed to flourish. The United States was a long haul from England making enforcing the King George’s tyranny an expensive endeavor. Same with Switzerland via location.
As for Israel and America, have we always acted within our principles…no we haven’t on occasion. Does this mean we should go into the dust bin of history? That is why we have a military and use it on occasion to remind third world slavers the price they will pay.

I might even go a step further. I would not expect the Swiss to stand idly by for 3 weeks saying, “Pretty please, give us back our people.” In fact, I think it’s likely that it was that lack of response that let the anti-Israel agit-prop get all their ducks in a row. What should have been done in those three weeks? How about setting up temporary housing in the Negev (which pretty much every decent country would have contributed towards on the condition it was very limited timeframe, say 6 months) arrange transportation for any who don’t want to be blown up, level the place and make sure no tunnels or bunkers remain, then set up a rebuilding commission from displaced Palis and expats, and once things have stabilized, that temporary commission is replaced by a real government that has the interests of the people foremost, rather than the interests of Iran and global jihad.
No, we’ve never expected that of anyone, ever, in the history of the world. But, obviously, Israel is a special case, and must be held to a higher (probably impossible) standard.

Well, my first choice was to cut a deal with Egypt, since that would be a short bus ride, and simple to supply humanitarian goods such that no one could scream about Israel blocking shipments or interfering in any way, but after Jordan and Egypt let the Palis in, and they attempted a coup, no muslim countries want them inside their borders.

I had similar thoughts on what Isael’s response should have been on same lines of thinking. I agree, allow those who wish not to engage to assimilate into Israel the opportunity the stay as Israeli citizens, after quite of lot of vetting and public statements renouncing Hamas (which would be a death sentence if caught later). Then level the place. All captured combatants get a free prison ship ride to Turkey and Iran, stop about a half mile off the coast and swim for it. Turkey and Iran support the Palestinians; they can have them.
If I recall recent history, Kuwait had a community of Palestinians living in their country just prior to Saddam’s invasion. The Palestinians went on a looting and raping spree there along with the Iraqi soldiers. After the war, Kuwait thru the whole lot out of their country to which many ended up in Gaza.
Congress has passed a bill authorizing the merger of USA military forces with Israel’s military forces.

With the push for Congress to merge the USA military with Israel’s military, American citizens who are contemplating joining the USA military should refrain from doing so. I would urge all active duty USA military personnel who are presently serving to consider and pursue plans to leave the service, USA military officers by resigning their commissions or enlisted personnel planning ways to get out of their contracts.
I realize that this will be difficult for many USA military personnel, especially for those who are approaching their 20 year mark for military retirement but it just may become necessary in order to save the country.
In the meantime, there are other actions that loyal USA military members can take.
The “oath” that every USA military member takes upon enlistment or commissioning swears an obligation and obedience to USA military officers and the Constitution of the United States of America, NOT to a foreign military command structure or to its officers.
When Israel Defense Force officers issue orders and commands directly to USA military personnel, such orders and commands must be considered to be null and void and thus unenforceable.
Since IDF military personnel do not swear an oath to “protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America”, their orders, commands and edicts are not legal under USA laws.
If Israeli military leaders issue commands to USA military personnel through compromised USA military officers, “monkey wrenching” of military systems by lower-ranked USA military personnel will become necessary.

Whether honest mistake (Massie, I assume) or deliberate lie (pretty much everyone else), you are being deceived. This is “just” a technology sharing agreement, meant to streamline the process. Everything in this section could be done before, by going through the regular Pentagon procurement process. It just takes years, something that doesn’t really help in cutting edge tech like anti-drone (which we could really use right about now) and directed energy weapons like Israel’s Iron Beam (ditto). Oh, and tunnel detection, though I accept most here don’t care about tunnels under the southern border.

Israel should be getting absolutely NOTHING from the US government. No tax money. No technology. Not one bullet, bayonet or even a rusty pot to piss in. Nothing! So, why shouldn’t they be getting US aid? These are just two amply sufficient reasons why:

Full stop.
Those ‘parallels’ you point to are not equivalent for this latter reason alone.

I’d put sharing technology in more or less the same category as “free trade”, particularly in the case of IP, which libertarians in general do not even believe to be property. In general, we would be better off playing to our comparative advantage. If they have something that will take us another few years to develop, wouldn’t we be better off trading and getting it today?

In re intellectual property: This libertarian says the mind that creates a thing has rights to that thing. It is just another way of expressing property rights. Do I own the rights to the books I write? Certainly – both legally and morally. Unless I cede/sell them. It is true that in some instances it is difficult to protect intellectual property (as for example online; it is very easy to just copy and past the contents of a book, for instance). That does say anything about the principle at issue, though – at least so far as I can see.
That’s normal and understandable. Libertarians who produce content have a vested interest in calling it “property”. Libertarians who do not produce content have an interest in noting that the whole idea of “property” was to be able to settle rivalrous claims, and since stuff in your head or that you copied from a book has no rivalrous claims…
Oops. Forgot about Symington. Long established principle that if a law conflicts with an older law, the newer one supersedes. That is, the old law is implicitly repealed to the extent required to resolve the conflict.
I have not read Symington. I trust you are paraphrasing it properly. There may be parts of it that are still in force, though, obviously, any duly enacted laws that, for example, extended aid to Israel would have superseded it, though not (necessarily) any further than necessary. How much that requires would be up to the courts to determine.

Symington is not case law. According to a few people (I have not personally checked) it was an amendment. Neither was military or other aid to Israel case law. It was legislated.
No congress is bound by its own prior decrees. A good example is insider trading. A decade or so ago, they passed legislation that said they were not exempt from them, they took their PR victory laps, then shortly later passed new legislation that re-exempted themselves. All they have to do is pass a new “law” and the conflicting parts of older “laws” are null and void. Right or wrong.

IIRC, Sweden was one of the plucky countries that didn’t impose a national lockdown. Of course, the US never imposed a national lockdown either, though they did impose some national rules, like masks on planes, and eviction moratoria. But all the lockdowns were state, local, or in some cases, private organizations. My useless church (that I left in disgust) for one.
Israel is an unsinkable aircraft carrier, sure, but there are lots of them over there that may or may not still be operational or, if not, even reparable. And, of course, all such aircraft carriers are only usable at the whim of the host country, as we found out with, for example, Spain, Italy and Great Britain. Because of the similar strings attached, Israel wants to end the aid, and once this calms down, I expect them to declare their independence within a few years.

Switzerland is a confederation. Its cantons operate as largely independent entities. This is what (most) of the Founders had in mind and it’s a fine idea because it is always a fine idea to decentralize authority and to have alternatives to authority. That is why I wish the Southern Confederacy had succeeded in its bid for independence. Having two countries would have served to check the ambitions of both.
I recall the Swiss voted against returning to a gold standard a few years ago. Switzerland and the Swiss are in lockstep with the great reset, no question. They also handed over all banking records to the US when FATCA was enacted.

Problem with removing the limit and holding the 1/40,000 (i.e., >8,000 electoral votes) is that the two electoral votes from Senate (100 electoral votes) becomes less than round-off. Only the big states/cities matter for national politics, and we devolve into mob rule democracy.
You would need something that forces states to subdivide into more politically manageable units in order to maintain their power in federal politics. Which would be fine. Cali would find itself having to split into some red states and some blue states, rather than making conservatives just go along for the ride, as if they were the 3/5…

It’s perhaps interesting that the confederacy of Swiss states were formed in 1798 as a reaction to the American and French Revolutions. They had cantons long prior to this but they’d be more akin to several coexisting kingdoms. There wasn’t a government as much as strong treaties defining the country.
The basic federal republican form of Switzerland we know today came into existence in 1874, when their first constitution was adopted after the Sonderbund War. Some things, such as the codification of rights in the vein of our Bill of Rights, were only formalized in 1999, when the Second Swiss Federal Constitution was adopted.
The founding fathers had a vague idea of the cantons in mind when they formed our government but they actually formalized things further than the Swiss had at that point. The Swiss were inspired by our form of government to model theirs.
We were brothers from different-ish mothers up until the War of Northern Aggression in 1860. Political paths deviated in part because of Lincoln’s response to force at any cost the top-down perpetual Union, effectively gutting the 9th and 10th Amendments, if not formally certainly in spirit.
Another factor at work here is the vast population, shear size of America vs Switzerland and the cultural and religious homogeneity. It’s much easier to keep a republic of 10 million Catholic farmers who were well protected from diluting immigration and wars for millennia through geography.

In the modern world no country can become autarkic. This is one reason why it makes no sense to piss away real resources in an attempt to steal resources rather than freely trade with other countries. OTOH, you may be right that the perception is that fears of the U.S. becoming isolationist drives other countries to act foolishly. But the sad fact is that the U.S. economy is, as we used to say, smoke and mirrors at this point. With some $40 trillion in federal debt and ~$250 trillion in unfunded mandates the wheels are coming off…..the evidence is everywhere. The European states are even in worse shape and the impending implosion will probably hit there before here. I’m not sure how old you are, but I remember when people considered unpaid debts to be a bad thing…..this country was a much more pleasant place then, in spite of all its faults.

There is – as you know – a general misunderstanding (deliberately fostered) about libertarianism; i.e., that it is about license (to do anything) without responsibility. The libertarianism I espouse has as its basic ethical premise the idea that every individual ought to be free (and left in peace) to do as they will provided no harm is caused to anyone else as a result. When harm (actual harm, not hurt or offended feelings or “concern”) is caused, the person who caused it must be held fully accountable. But no one else ought to be held accountable to the least degree for the actions of others, for the obvious reason that no person has agency over the actions of other adults. Therefore, it is unjust – tyrannical – to hold others responsible for such actions.
Understood and agreed. So how do you correct the misperception people have about it? I mean, I know how you do it. You run this site. How about everyone else?

One way would be to thoroughly reject the so-called Libertarian Party. Back when it first started, the LP was philosophically internally consistent and ran serious candidates. But in the 21st century the LP became a bad joke with candidates like Gary Johnson, Jo Jorgenson, Weld and this retard Chase Oliver. If you have the patience, read the four volume Conceived in Liberty by Rothbard…it sheds a lot of light on the libertarian aspects of the founding of this country.
My kids and I read CiL and much more as a homeschooling activity. 4th or 5th grade or so. They enjoyed it, but their favorite was current events, or what I called, “Civics for Cynics”. Though I think the most enjoyable part of it was the way it made their maternal grandmother clutch her pearls.

A friend of mine was financially ruined by “COVID.” He ran a successful local business, a little cafe called the Bent Mountain Bistro. It was a great place to go for good, locally sourced food. Pretty typical replacement theology. I only listened to the first 40 minutes or so, then skimmed the rest, but notice anything? Baldwin referenced Pauline epistles only. Which is weird, because he could have gone to 1 Peter, at least. But I do get it, because since about the 3rd century, Paul has been the go-to for pretty much everything related to the matter. You can’t justify the claim using the Gospels. It’s like they are preaching Paulianity, not Christianity.
And like most theologians post Luther or so, Baldwin misunderstands the Greek word used for “chosen”, using instead today’s understanding of the word. A better modern word for it is “tasked” or “assigned”. Abram was told to leave the world he knew and travel to the land Yahweh would lead him to. Since he followed the call, he was “chosen” to bring the new understanding of monotheism to the world. It was not a blessing by our understanding. It was more like a duty or obligation. He was also “chosen” to tell the world that the real God did not want human sacrifices, through the story (apocryphal or not) of Isaac.
This is not to say the Bible supports the idea of modern Israel. I don’t believe it does. The closest I can get to it is Ezekiel 38, but even then, it’s not required to be a sovereign nation. It’s just that they all have to be in the same place around Jerusalem. That would be perfectly fine as a single state of Palestine, as long as that state treated them as any other citizen.
